When i bought my HTC Flyer last Year i made it S-OFF immediately using Revolutionary.
After a couple of months, HTC asked me to update my device to a newer firmware.
So i backed up all my data and tried it.
When i stared the device, a warning droid appeared on the screen.
So i restored my data and still everything works fine.
But i a still on 2.3.3 and i really want to use the newest Version working with Revolutionary.
So here are my problems:
1. I don't know how to remove Revolutionary
2. To install (or update) Revolutionary, i need another hboot version
(mine is 6.10.1002 and i need 1.10.0000 or 1.11.0003)
So how to update my hboot ?
3. What possibilities i got, concerning the update of my device ?
4. I searched for my specific RRU to flash my device but i could't find or identify it?
Which one should i download ?
Information about my Flyer
I have the Wifi-Editon from a local store in germany, so i have no specific Branding from Vodafone or Tmobile.
Its current Firmware Version is 2.3.3
Hboot is 6.10.1002
I rooted it with Revolutionary
I would be really amused if you would pay some attention to my thread and try to help me
if you want HC follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
Thank you very much
This really helped me
BUT
After the installation, i tried to use a backup from Revolutionary and now my screen is stuck on the htc sign when it starts.
(Unfortunately i havent made a backup after the installation of HC )
please close this thread
I will make a new one, showing my problem in the Title

For future reference, don't EVER EVER EVER install an official OTA update to an S-Off/rooted Android device. At a minimum, the update won't work. At the worst, the update may remove root (may be difficult or impossible to re-root), or you might be stuck unable to boot. Pre-rooted versions of updates usually end up getting posted in the Development subforum (like the one posted in a previous response), and often very quickly after the official OTAs go out. THOSE are safe to flash.

Hi Valued mozart seniors i hope someone can give me an affirmatative response as i ve trawlled the net for the last 10 hrs hoping to find a solution to downgrade the bootloader (it was really stupid of me to jump straight to 7720 fr 7004-1.28) without 1st going tru the forum and understanding what problems i may face if i want custom roms (salivating ::
My question is am i stuck on 5xxx bcos i tried to flash RUU_mozart htc 1.28..728 but was unsuccessful and my current recovery is also on 5xxx. I read in a post that is virtually impossible to revert back that is why i m seeking an opinion.
If this is really the case then i ve to get rid of this one and look for one that is still in virgin state as i love to try the custom roms
I re-update the 7720 on the ph it says 4xxx but in bootloader screen it is 5xxx
Thanks in advance
Greetings,
Did you update your Mozart from Zune the official way or flash a ROM with RUU? If you updated through Zune then a backup should have been made which you can restore from. After restore allow Zune to check the device for updates and begin the process.
Using my case as an exmaple and referring to build numbers, my Zune backup was build 7390. 1st update was to 7392, second to 7404 I believe, 3rd to Mango at 7720, then the 4th update was the HTC specific released just recently. I chose to cancel the update process to avoid installing this update, and was surprised to see that at some point during the update (likely when Mango was installed) my bootloader had returned to 4.XX! I could then flash an official O2 ROM containing a 1.XX bootloader and successfully run the RSPL patch followed by the HSPL patch.
The above procedures seem to have been a success, whereas attempting to downgrade using RUU failed. Of course in order for this to work, you must have a proper backup of your previous ROM in Zune.
I hope this helps.

Yes i did the update with zune which also made a recovery for me unfortunately both time when i did recovery and reupdate the bootloader was 5xxx only consolation is at the last update i got internet sharing, actually a big bonus. I love to ve custom roms,my biggest mistake was not trying it whilst my bootloader was 1.28 and jumping onto mango update straightaway. As i m very new to wp7 i ve to figure how to do a backup recovery for my current rom before i start messing around again, incidentally, am i able to use zune to create the backup? i could'nt find the option. Thanks for yr response

I really hate to tell you this, as I was reluctant to do this as well, but you are going to have to downgrade the phone before you can use Revolutionary to get S-Off and attain root access(I'm doing it later tonight, after my phone is charged).
It's not as bad of a process as it seems, and you can back up almost everything on the phone. If set properly, the android market will start to restore your applications once you relink your accounts(data is not saved though, and there is no easy method of data extraction aside from ADB) however, anything on the SD card(outside of system files) will remain.
This guide will contain all you need to know to downgrade.
Then just follow any tutorial that explains how to use Revolutionary.io with the Thunderbolt, but you should be able to figure it out on your own, it's really simple.
EDIT:
I myself have just gone through the process and can confirm that rooting this device is very simple. I have downgraded, attained S-Off, flashed Clockwork Mod, and a custom rom. I am very pleased with how simple the overall process was. The part that took the longest was downloading the downgrade files, the rest was very quick.
It is a simple process to downgrade and root. Just follow the instructions at Revolutionary.io.
I am having some problems with my gps working right so maybe tomorrow I will restore to the downgrade and and see if that works.
Once you downgrade your phone it will try to upgrade so be prepared to postpone it.
yea i recently rooted my phone but unfortunately you will have to downgrade the firmware in order to rooted so you can use the S-off otherwise you cant root it with the current firmware yet.
I rooted my Thunderbolt this weekend without downgrading the firmware using Revolutionary. You first have to do some preliminary steps first.
I'd provide a link to the post on Android Forums but I don't have enough posts yet.
It's the first result I get when I search for "thunderbolt root" with Google.
Hey Guys,
After coming back from an long journey, today I realized that HTC has published official honeycomb for my HTC Flyer, I did try to update my device many times. I am just recieving a warning which is like at the attached image and it does not update my device. My device is rooted.. Can anyone help?
DO NOT EVER install an OTA or other official update if you are rooted. You will either find that the update will not work (seems to be your case), get stuck in a bootloop, or get unrooted. On other devices in the past, it can even cause you to lose root, and not be able to get it back until the devs devised a downgrade method.
If you are rooted with Revolutionary, globatron's method to update to HC is what you want:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
^^Yep. Since you are rooted most likely, if it is doing an MD5 check, something has changed which will prevent the OTA from ever going through. You need to either update with custom rom or RUU back to original and then try the official update. However, like redpoint73 has already mentioned, I would recommend upgrading via custom rom.
I have a Rezound that is not active. It just gets used around the house on wifi for checking email, facebook, and to control the wifi thermostat. I would like to get the latest OTA but cannot do it from the phone as it does not have an active sim. I don't really want to root the phone. I did the PH98IMG zip method to get 4.03.605.2 but it seams a little slow and it is my understanding that there is a new version of 4.05 or perhaps newer OTA... Does anyone have a link to a zip of the OTA that I can download?
Thanks for the help!

Well, your in a bad spot actually... 4.3.605.2 does not have an upgrade path at all, there is no OTA from it, or to it for that matter... it was an unofficial leaked firmware that is not supported in the standard software streams. Even if it was active on Verizon, it would never see an upgrade... ever.
You have 3 choices here:
1) S-OFF the device and get back to an official software build and manually OTA up (See the instructions for Full Downgrade/Upgrade here)
2) Assuming you are already Hboot unlocked, flash a custom ROM or a stock-ish ROM, there is a pre-rooted 4.5.605.14 ROM in the dev section
3) Stick with what you got, to be honest the ROM you have is pretty stable.

Thanks for taking the time to reply but I am not sure what you are referring to by "s-off" or hboot unlocked"
Can you point me in the right direction to learn a little more?
Thanks!
Hboot unlock is a process which is done via htcdev.com, it unlocks the phone to allow custom ROMs and recovery... Go to their site for more details or check out any of several YouTube videos.
S-Off is a means of turning off all security checks in the device, such as flashing an older RUU to downgrade. It is accomplished after Hboot unlock with a tool like RumRunner, check out rumrunner.us for more info.
If you are completely unfamiliar with unlocking, rooting, romming, or that kind of stuff, Google can be your friend here to learn the ins and outs, plus the sticky threads in the Rezound sections here.
I just bought an AT&T HTC One M8 that came with android 4.4.2 KitKat. It apparently doesn't have any available android lollipop updates since checking for updates using the "AT&T Software Update" option in settings returns a "no updates available" which was weird, but I didn't mind since I was planning to root this and flash a custom rom.
I read up on guides on rooting and unlocking the bootloader which was pretty standard for most android devices. However, S-on/S-off and hboot are 2 things that are confusing me a bit right now despite doing quite a lot of searching on XDA. To my understanding, S-on/S-off is some kind of HTC protection that needs to be disabled to flash certain roms, and hboot seems to be what people are calling the HTC Bootloader (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If I'm correct, I seem to have hboot version 3.16 according to CPU-Z (I checked the Bootloader version number).
After enough reading, it seems like having the latest hboot version is relatively important for flashing many roms (3.18-3.19 I believe), but I have found no guides on how to do this. My only lead so far is the following thread with 1 reply: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/update-hboot-3-18-3-19-t3236897
"Backup any personal data you want to keep (off phone, it will be wiped). Relock the bootloader, run the latest AT&T RUU."
So ok, I guess it's a good thing I'm doing this before rooting the device. However, What's the AT&T RUU? My closest guess was using the HTC Sync Manager on windows to find firmware updates manually, but upon trying this (installing htc sync manager and connecting my HTC One M8) and on the menu clickling "Check for updates", I just get an error message saying "Unable to connect to the live update service".
Then, after some more searching I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/help/how-update-bootloader-to-3-18-0-0000-t3006738 which said the following:
"Follow instruction on the following thread for updating firmware, and select the 3.28.1540 firmware file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-htc-one-m8/development/att-4-4-3-2-22-1540-3-debloated-sense-6-n"
So, here I am. Unsure whether to follow this instructions since I have no idea what that firmware is or if it will brick my device, or whether it will work since I still haven't rooted or unlocked my device's bootloader and I don't have S-Off (and that thread clearly states S-Off is mandatory for flashing to work). Any ideas?

edit: I just found out what RUU stands for, but I have been unable to find this "Rom Update Utility". It's spoken as Windows software, but I can't find where to download it. Any help would be very appreciated

Are you connected to the AT&T network?

S-off is not needed to flash any ROMs. S-off is one way to update the firmware needed to run a ROM (more on what "firmware" is in a bit), but s-off isn't strictly need to update firmware either (other ways to do it s-on).
s-off is needed to modify (hack) certain partitions that are protected even with the bootloader unlocked. Such as hboot, radio, and some others. But its only needed for those specific things; and not needed to flash custom recovery or ROMs. And note that you can still update hboot, radio, and other firmware by "official" means even with s-on.

Yes, hboot and bootloader are the same thing, as far as HTC devices are concerned.
Not only is the latest hboot needed to flash the current ROMs, but its important to update the entire firmware package. Firmware includes not only hboot, but also a number of other critical modules such as radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, and others; that all need to be updated in order for the current ROMs to function properly.
Good news, you are on the right track, and the proper RUU will update not only hboot, but all the firmware.

I've created an AT&T index thread to catalog such things (sticky to the top of the General AT&T M8 section). It explains what an RUU is, and has links to all AT&T RUUs. You will want the latest RUU (4.28.502.1 or 4.28.502.2 - they are mainly the same except the latter has the Stagefright fix):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432
The RUU is rather self-explanatory. As mentioned previously in this thread (and on the Index) your phone will be wiped by the RUU. So backup anything you want to keep by your method of choice. Then simply download the RUU to a PC, connect the phone. Then run the RUU program, and it will walk you through the process (you basically just need to confirm a couple dialogue boxes, and the RUU will do the rest and automatically update all the software/firmware).
After that, what you want to do in short is:
1) Unlock the bootloader using HTCDev.com
2) Install TWRP 2.8.7
3) Flash your custom ROM of choice
4) Beer
