He is having a i9100G

You have an I9100G. If you flash roms/kernels for the I9100 on your phone you run the risk of soft bricking it at best or hard bricking it (return to Samsung for a repair you pay for) at worst.
Make absolutely sure any rom or kernel you flash on your phone is specifically for the I9100G. I cannot stress this enough.

Not that I really cared (since I have an i9100, and not a G)... But I had to unsubscribe and clear cache on the app, and resubscribe. And now it shows.

Chainfire said:

Most SGS2's and Note's have "bad" chips (its actually the firmware that's bad). This is only dangerous if your kernel is dangerous as well. Gingerbread kernels are usually OK, Samsung ICS kernels are usually (bad on Note, good on SGS2), custom ICS kernels: look in the kernel's thread. This is a simplification. See Entropy512's excellent post with some further details about which kernels are what.

And the app doesn't fix the bug. (as stated, again, in post 1) It just detects if the chip is of the "bad" batch, and the possibility of it affecting you or not.

[Q] Did I screwd up my phome ?

Plz help me,
I was trying to root with siyah.
i followed manual
-Installed Kies on mine Windows 7
-download ODIN and latest siyah
-started odin and browse for siyah v3.4.tar in PDA slot
- started S2 in download mode and connected via Data cable
- after reboot i have yellow triangle (warning sign)
I know that this sometimes happens after rooting
BUT WHATEVER I DO I CAN'T PASS THAT SCREEN
I try to remove battery but after i put it back and switch on SAME THING.
Cant start it in download mode
Computer don't recognize it anymore so i cant root with some other kernel.
I CANT EVEN SWITCH IT OFF!!!!!
Thing that worries me is when i connected S2 in download mode damn Windows 7 has automatically installed some driver but ODIN has recognize it after finished driver update
1) Remove the f word from your post before mods see it & ban you.
2) If you really can't get into download mode, your last chance before you send it off to Samsung is a jig. Probably won't work, but worth a try. You never know.

You didn't heed this very sound advice, did you?
Ok. In order for anyone to help you, you must provide a lot more information than you do.
Model number of phone? (GT-i9100? GT-i9100G? GT-i9100M/P/T? SGH-i777? SPH-D710? SGH-T989?)
Current firmware of phone? (is it GB? ICS? Siyah 3.4 is meant for ICS. If you flashed it onto a phone that has 2.3.6 or lower, that could be your issue)

Ok, that is your issue. Siyah kernels are for i9100 phones. NOT for i9100G phones.
I find it hard to believe this would now prevent you from getting to download mode though.
Do this:
- take out battery
- hold vol down, home and power buttons, and keep holding
- put battery back in
This should get you to download mode.
Then flash a kernel actually meant for an i9100G. (look for one in the i9100G development subsection)
Then, here's something key for you: stick to firmwares, kernels, and ROMs ONLY MEANT for the i9100G.
i9100G has a different SoC/chipset than the i9100, so these things are not compatible between the two devices.

Cite where you read this information please. As stated, because of SoC/chipset differences, I don't know of ANY kernels that support both the i9100 and i9100G.

If you don't know what firmware version you were on, then I'd just start over at this point, and flash a stock i9100G firmware. This will get you back to Gingerbread.
Then you can do whatever you want, but again, make sure you stick to G-variant firmwares, kernels and ROMs.
I will try.

I wouldn't say the I9100 is necessarily BETTER than the I9100G, but I think that's a matter of opinion.
It benchmarks a little better due to the Exynos processor in the I9100 running a tad faster than the OMAP in the I9100G, but I've heard that for the most part, real world performance differences are hard to notice, and the I9100G runs cooler.
The I9100 has been available for longer, so as a result there has been more development for it, but since the I9100G has an OMAP (which is also the processor the Galaxy Nexus has), porting has somewhat recently (in the last few months) picked up for the G-variant. (CM9 is in nightlies for the I9100G)

Yes you will.
It means it is meant to be used to root a stock Rom, after that you can do what you like. Cf root is extremely safe if you follow the instructions, which are very simple. If you do that you won't brick your phone

No, you only need to unlock if you want to use a different network, won't affect it otherwise
My question is after rooting and not changing anything else will you still be able to get the updates. I remember with the bionic I cou ld but not with the tbolt.
are you carrier branded as in US Carrier branded or something else?
If you're talking about a US Carrier branded phone, then you're in the wrong place. This is specifically for the i9300, not any other version. There are appropriate forums for your specific phone.
If you do have the i9300, then do as slaphead says. you're all set.

Oopsie daisy.... I could've sworn I read the whole thread from start to end.. Not sure how I missed that..
I think the word "carrier branded" set of red flags in my head since I was only recently reading about someone who tried to flash an i9300 rom with their sprint s3.

Oopsie daisy.... I could've sworn I read the whole thread from start to end.. Not sure how I missed that..
I think the word "carrier branded" set of red flags in my head since I was only recently reading about someone who tried to flash an i9300 rom with their sprint s3.

[Q] Noob question about rooting my phone

i have a samsung galaxy s2 with the gingerbread 2.3.6 and model number SCH-R760 and build number is XARFI24. i have not been able to find a root tutorial for this version. can anyone help please. thank you
As I'm nice, I did a bit of research, and it appears it uses the exynos chip, so any standard rooting tutorial will work, do a search.
Although, it was on the US cellular website, so if you root and it turns out its a TI-OMAP chip, don't blame me.

First off, look where questions go! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763193
Secondly, dial *#1234# and post results.
You need to read the stickies first, that is what they are there for.
