Ics kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So much info out there, whats the best kernel out there at the moment? Neak's sounds intresting im mainly looking to over/underclock my devices.
Thanks andy

Siyah ore speedmod i say
But just try!

Just try them and decide yourself. In my opinion, the best car in the world is the Lancia Integrale I currently drive, the best kernel is Siyah which I'm currently using, but many people disagree with me on both counts.

Fine but we will have yet another post asking exactly the same tomorrow and the day after and the day after to join the list of five thousand posts already asking the same question .
We would be far better off with a kindergarten section for repetitive posts .
jje

The reason we have threads dedicated to kernels is so that you can click on those threads and read what people are saying about them. From there, you flash the kernel and you watch how your phone behaves for a day or two. At this point, you come back to the kernel thread and make a post about your experience.
Creating threads asking for people to do this for you is lazy but it also doesn't really work. Why? Because your device couple with your usage patterns will be different than the 6 people who actually reply to your thread with random kernel recommendations. Making this post and the hundreds we get exactly like it COMPLETELY POINTLESS AND A WASTE OF SPACE. If you're too lazy to read/search and make up your own mind, XDA might not be for you.

Rule number 1: If you don't know what you are doing, then don't do it. Read, search, learn. Then you are ready to start messing with custom roms.
Well u dont have to rude to anyone who is ASKING QUESTIONS in a Q&A thread....if u cant answer him....dont reply....IS IT A THAT DIFFICULT THING TO DO ????

Go through the roms and flic through the pages of each roms threads. I wouldnt read them all as some have a fair amount of post. Just read the rom features and look for any problems that people have had or have been fixed.
I liked the litening rom alot and never really had any problems. Now im running skyrom v9 and altough i have a few minor niggles i love it but you mite not like either.
There isnt a "best rom", just "personally best rom" if you get me and personally for me its skyrom v9

thanks in advance for any replies

In my opionion CyanogenMods rom is better in every way then the costum samsung fireware. Because loads of bloatware is not hogging your battery.
But keep in mind that i am a root noob myself.
On topic:Try looking for Intratechs thread. I think links to the official samsung firmware are provided
If i was helpfull please hit the thank you button. Cost you nothing but a click.

Buddy i just joined and from what i have been reading through out the many threads here it is all down to choice. if i was you i do a little research and read peoples opinions from the threads..for example you are looking for a modem. Go the modem thread and see what people are saying...I know it is a bit to much to read but that is how you will gain knowledge and that will help you to tweak your phone to your choosing..Hope this helps
Not really bcause i agree with you. I am just saying dont flame a person for asking a question. Because in your opinion the awnser can be clear, but for the person reading it it probaply isn't hence the question.

The BEST MIUI ROM?

All the ones I try seem to have some sort of issue and are too temperamental for everyday use.
Has anyone got a stable MIUI ROM with few problems that can be used permanently?
Thanks.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
dude ,test every miui rom that you find on the whole internet and decide what you like ,because there is no best rom or anything like that .That's why it's named custom rom , to choose yourself ,your decision in making your mind with what miui rom to use.
This is a good place to start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529173
or try this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535793
ICS versions are not stable yet...
By the way you dont know the Questian "Which is best" is banned on the XDA.....
Flashing roms, backup & restore with CWM is simple. Not trying a bunch of Miui roms yourself is sheer laziness. Anything else you'd like us to spoonfeed you while we're at it before this thread gets closed ?
To those who are throwing cheap shots, instead of giving advice, get a grip.
If someone knows of a decent ROM, then why am I not entitled to ask, instead of 'wasting my time' trying multiple ROMs.
Some people on here are so arrogant it's unbelievable.

the best rom queston is one that members will generaly not give you an answer to, as each rom will meet the needs of members in diffrent ways. the two links above are the best answers you will get. Also just ignore any comments that are just having a go, you have every right to ask the question and if a Mod thinks other wise then they will remove the thread.
Just try the ROMs until you find one you like, if you're too lazy to do that, you definitely shouldn't be posting on this website

[Q]Best ROM based on JB from samsung

Hello,
I will get soon my S3 and I would like to know if there is a best ROM (very smooth and very stable) based on JB from samsung? I don't want hybrids with ICS or UI.. I only want a good ROM based only with the ROM from samsung. A very light ROM without those useless apps and stuf to make my phone very smooooth . Is there any? cause as so far I didn't see any in this forum, most of those ROM here based on JB yes but everything with ICS or MIUI :x. Please give me some advice. Thx.
I'd recommend to read as you clearly haven't - hint: read the sticky threads.

I would agree with the others, you need to start reading before posting. There are ROMs that are cut down, you must have missed those along with the forum rules.

"Best" is relative. That means, this thread is relative, you are asking for a relative answer - Best can mean something different to everyone, therefor this post is spam or unwanted. Reporting.
In my opinion, there is no "best" JB ROM, for the GS III, before that ca happen, Samsung needs to give the devs the Exynos Processor Notes.
Each JB ROM has it's ups and it's downs...

[Q] i9300 KernELs...?

There are a plethora of kernals available for the i9300 but being a bit of a noob I'm wondering what the differences and benifits are in each...coding, features or otherwise?
I have personally being using WanamLite 4.1.2 roms for the past 8months or so, recently updating from LLA Tto MB5. And about two weeks before updating I switched from Siyah 1.8.9 to Boeffla 2.7-2.8 and personally found that battery life was improved. I'm still running Boeffla on MB5 however Wanam has now released his Adam kernal. I know other kernal are available but what are differences as I mentioned above.
Any info would be great guys.
Cheers
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The differences are:
-battery life (as you've said) for kernels like phenomenal, hydrx-d (for example)
-sound improvements for kernels like boeffla
-speed
various kernels work differently on various sgs3's so just test em and choose which one you like more

Ahh ok I was wondering why I couldn't find much on this topic.
I'm not looking to be told which is the best or any form of heads up between kernals.
It's just often I see 'tweaked'. So I was hoping to find out in what way each kernal is tweaked and how will this affect things.
Just plain facts so people can make up their own mind.
Thought it would be good to have a centralised location for a discussion that covers this.

Re: [Q] i9300 Kernals...?
It's worth having a really in depth look at the kernel threads, and following links to ie. Governors explained, and stuff like that, it takes a while to get to grips with it, but then half the fun is going through the learning process, finding the facts, building the picture, gaining understanding, the main point to note I'd that most custom kernels come with fully functioning and optimized default set up, so you don't need to do anything initially giving you tinge to figure out how all the functions effect performance.
As always reading lots is the key

We have had that and it just gets into a my kernel is bigger then your kernel post .
Good idea then PM a mod and put it to them .
I will give my opinion none is better they are all much the same performance wise on SGS3 .

I've been reading the kernal posts for a bit now but the definition of tweaks etc seemed a bit vague.
Regarding the governors I agree, I had read up on these when i had my i9100. And currently trying pegasusq speedmod on the s3 to see how that pans out. Cheers though I'll read up on these a little more.
I thought the moderators would of kept the post in check to stop the whole competition scenario.
Was only hoping for an explanation and as I said some facts, thinking it would of been good for the forum and useful for other i9300 owners.

To be honest if you want stuff explaining then most people would, if willing, go of and link you to threads or copy paste stuff, the best thing is read the last 20 pages of each thread, gives a good idea of performance/stability etc
The moderators simply don't have time to wipe everyone's bums and owing to the over proliferation of adolescent hormones and board room egos here, these threads always go badly wrong!

If the users of this forum followed the rules then their would be room for such a kernel thread providing someone is willing to update it daily .
However as users do not follow the rules the forum is a clogged up mess .
Guess how many multiple what kernel posts would still be posted after such as topic was stickied many many as many users prefer to post instead of read sadly .
But as i said PM a dev with your idea .
jje
Re: [Q] i9300 Kernals...?
Not being a dev myself. My idea was to have a centralised location, here, where the kernal dev's could state exactly what they had tweaked and possibly what the benefits are.
So many kernals seem to offer the same features, but nothing really gets down to the nity grity.
 Slaphead, in hindsight I can totally see where your coming from and why this wouldn't work => end up in a cat fight over why things are good and why they're bad / who's right and who's wrong.
