Took me a while to understand you, but if you can get into recovery your device is NOT bricked.
Brick = your device is rendered useless, such as your device wont boot into bootloader or recovery.

Not sure about your specific device, but I have intentionally tried bricking my mytouch4g just to show my scary cat friend that HTC phones are almost immune (well the mytouch4g with the good eMMC atleast) to bricking.
The only way I would think you would brick your phone is if your eMMC dies- this c an happen for various reasons such as pulling the battery while writing something into the eMMC (like when rooting).
Then again anything can happen especially if you have a faulty device- so be careful and always read the instructions before flashing, and you should be good.

[Q] [HELP] Official LG Updater over ClockWorkMod Recovery

I have an LG Optimus One running 2.2.2 latest firmware V10e. Recently, I rooted my device and installed ClockWorkMod Recovery and the Lagfix+OC Kernel by der_caverman. I am using the Stock ROM with that Kernel.
My question is when the official Gingerbread Update comes out by LG, will I be able to update it with the official LG software updater or will it not work because I have ClockWorkMod Recovery installed.
If not, how can I remove ClockWorkMod Recovery get my original Recovery Back???
any help would be appreciated!

nope. you can upgrade at any time if u are staying with ur oem rom even if u are rooted. only thing is that u will lose ur root previllage after the update.
its alwayes advisable to have a custom recovery and custom rom. cause it can take nandroid backups(will save your day if anything goes wrong)

it is risky since you have changed the frame work.if i were you i will do the following.
1)unroot the phone( if u have used gingerbreak use the same to unroot)
2)down load the original recovery from http://www.megaupload.com/?f=XGKNWZQJ and flash. thus u can getrid of amonra and get back original p500 recovery
3)reboot and hard reset and upgrade.
4) since u are now on original recovery and in unrooted condition if any thing goes wrong u can claim warrenty.
let me ask u why u need an upgrade? to get lot of crapwares? or to get amere 600mhz kernal? or to get a laggy phone with mere 60 mb of internal storage space to install all ur apps? or to have adds on every apps?

Thanks for your answer!
And I understand you when you ask me why do I need official update, because I agree that official rom = creap And thats why the first thing that I have done when I rooted my phone was to uninstall all the bloatware from it
I will for sure flash miks rom when he base it on official gingerbread, and if I have a little time for weekend current mod that you recommended (I only hesitate because of the bugs - I know there are just a couple of them, but...). I tried yesterday francos kernel v151, but I'm experiencing color bending in lower half of a screen with it...

yes its a flashable unsigned zip.but if u r using amonra to flash( cause it is unsigned) u have to uncheck the option "toggle signature verify" first.Amonra wont allow u to flash unsigned zips unless u do the above.
ps:if original recovery is flashed u will lose all the options in amonra and the only option will be the hard reset option.
there is a good how to section if u wish...

man, don't forget to backup your NV, to do that, go into LGMDP, connect to your mobile, go into Tools, and press in NV Backup. I forgot this and my phone doesn't gave me band signal, so i had to return it to the LG assistance.

[Q] Can i flash if i have CWM

The question sound silly but it bothers me for a day.
I have Xperia neo V with ics 4.0.4 rooted with Cwm for locked bootloader.
I really want to downgrade to GB with root.
So i would like to know is it safe to use flashtool although i have CWM installed?
If yes is CWM staying after flash or will it be deleted?
And a last one:
Is locked bootloader going to protect me from hard brick.
*if you have any good and plain guide to give me on how to root GB i would be grateful although i already i have one but it is a bit complex
try this
see this link
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239
this still doesnt answer the main question but thank you for the link
it could be proven helpful
cwm has no relation with downgrade process...you will have your stock android recovery after flashing........no worries go ahead and downgrade sir
Thank you (my android phone has no stock recovery at all)
you should ask in the device thread, may get better help since other actually have the same phone and might have done the same thing you are trying to

stop joking sir it would have had stock android recovery when you had purchased
Who said that it had cwm pre-installed.
i installed it with CWM auto-installer XPERIA (for locked bootloader)
u said that your device dint have stock recovery so i made that comment.......
With CWM, you should be able to flash GB easily though it's kinda interesting to know that you actually want to downgrade. As for the locked bootloader, i don't think it will protect you against bricking.
Take a backup of your stock recovery !

What should i do?

I've bought a X10i phone, but now I have a few problems:
- When I've bought it I've checked for new updates and with that PC software (Sony PC Companion) I've made the firmware upgrade to the last one available from sony ericsson;
- After that the phone started to reboot and at the end stoped working;
- As i know the battery is not ok, I've bought a new one with more capacity (Gold 2680Mah from ECELL);
- As the phone don't start, I've made a "repair" from PC Companion and phone start working... the problem is that the reboots continue;
What should I do?
- Downgrade? How?
- Install custom rom? How?
Please give me some advise on this. I think my phone is not rooted yet (when is starting i press the BACK key and nothing happens).
Thanks in advance.

For now this phone looks to me very defective :/
The day I've bought it was working fine i think, after update and after i try to recharge it is all problems. That's why maybe it's not bad idea to downgrade or change to custom firmware.

I've managed to download and install flash tool and flashed 2.1 version. I can't find 2.3 version or higher versions - links are not active.
For the moment I thought i have my problem solved and installed some nice themes on the phone (go theme) , but unfortunately i keep getting random reboots.
Any ideas? Should I make some firmware update? Should I try some other custom roms?
Please point me to the links.

You still have stock kernel, for now its ok.
With that kernel you need to stay with stock based custom roms, like x10s, wolfbreaks.
Cm 7 & 9 and ics roms require a different kernel
I would start by flashing Rom in cwm then use flashtool and flash a Doomkernel. But dont forget to get WiFi.zip for that kernel.
Once you have done that and all is well start reading up on your favorite Rom and go for it. I say to start with stock and DooMKernel cuz there hard to mess up

Well you can do a couple things.
You can flash stock 2.3 and unlock bootloader.
You can flash a kernel, may get rid of reboot. Rom stays the same.

Root is built-in the custom roms, so dont worry about it. you will have it.

xperia mini pro almost bricked because of a custom rom

Hello guys, please forgive me if any of this has caused the slightest troubles to you
So,
i just rooted my phone a day ago and installed clockwork mod too...
i am a total newbie and don't know anything about this.... So i went searching for some custom mods for my sk17i or Xperia mini pro...
And i found one on this site http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102979
So then i installed it from the instructions given on most of the websites... i had a kernel of 4.1.b.0.587 on the phone and i don't even know much about flashtool...
Now the rom is installed or whatever it is but the UI has completely changed and it's not like the pics on the site... It's just completely black... And the worse part is that i can't even access my settings menu on the phone... So now i am blocked from doing anything... i cant even start usb debugging and take off the root....
please tell me some roms for the phone or any other way this can be undone...
Oh and btw i also tried installing some roms from http://get.cm/?device=mango because i thought cyanogen is pretty famous...
But none of them gets installed... and i even tried placing them as updates but no luck :crying::crying:
please help... thank you so much

Hmmm...if i understand your problem correctly, you ROOT and install CWM on you Mango, then you flash custom mods...problem appears after flashing custom mods right????
Hmmm....okey, for you info, those custom mods are for CM10 Roms ONLY and i believe you haven't flash CM10 Roms FIRST before you flash those mods...you can't use those mods on STOCK ROM (GB and ICS)...its designed for JB rom only....No wonder your phone got black screen...you trying to flash some mods that isn't COMPATIBLE with your roms...you need to flash STOCK Roms back if you want to fixed your problem...
for you second question...did your phone BOOTLOADER is Unlock??? if is not then sorry you can't CM Roms without unlocking the Bootloader first....CM Roms mush use CUSTOM KERNEL not STOCK KERNEL and after Unlocking you Bootloader then you can flash CUSTOM KERNEL and CM Roms...
Thank you so much!

As far as I know, the kernel should be in the rom.zip (it's the boot.img). Extract it and flash it using flashtool or the fastboot tools
Otherwise search for a kernel for android 4.2.2 in Dev section and flash that one. Should work too
Sent from my Nexus 4 running Android 4.2.2
One thing to remember is, before flashing a custom ROM or MOD, ALWAYS MAKE A BACKUP.
To be on the safer side, backup every week or so and keep the last two or three backups.
messed up again guys...
umm... hi again..
I didn't brick my phone this time (actually i did for a couple of times trying to install a custom rom)
Now my touch screen is unresponsive...

Your phone got almost bricked,No it didnt, First thing before installing a custom ROM clear your system, data, cache partition..did you do that?
ok so you have CWM installed..follow this exactly
Start CWM by pressing vol down when your phone starts up,Select Mount USB Storage under mounts and storage, connect phone to pc,transfer ROM zip file to sdcard then
format /system ,/data,/cache ,now select install zip from sdcard and select your ROM zip file from sdcard
Reboot System..
You should be clear now..
Hope i helped..
Regards..
PS :Certain CM ROMS can be highly unstable so i recommend checking out the bugs and everything before you flash a CM rom..otherwise ICS is always smooth and stable..and have got a lot a lot of mdpi roms on xda..thanks to devs..
EDIT: if u r on a stock kernel, then unlock your bootloader by following steps at unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com then flash a custom kernel that supports JB..look over at the index thread created by predator at the dev section..
then follow my steps above..
DO NOT FLASH CUSTOM JB ROM ON STOCK ICS KERNEL.IT WONT WORK.
