APEX/Nova launcher transition potential lag SOLVED - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

As I started messing with APEX and Nova launchers, I started to notice some homescreen transition lag when I created a 7x7 layout and added a lot of applications. It would take about 1/2 sec before the transition caught up with my finger.
The problem is with the icon labels. If you remove the icon labels from the homescreen, the lag disappears and transition is instant.

Great find. Thanks!

Perfect. This was really bugging me. Problem solved!

I've only got widgets on my home screens and it's still laggy even before I added everything it was laggy. I'm using an HD2 with CM9 v1.4

This only helps if you have 6x6 7x7 icon layouts. 5x5 didnt make a difference for me.

Did you enable it in the launcher settings? Pretty sure ADW Ex has it disabled by default.
Yes it enabled. And on the tw launcher its the same

I'm having the same issue. Even on different launchers... Whatever app that is intercepting when you crop the background won't let you crop enough to have a successful scrollable background. Launcher Pro scrolls, but you can only crop enough that fits the screen size, then it stretches it and it looks all ****ty. lol
So nobody else noticed?

I noticed this as well. I was trying to use MultiPicture Live Wallpaper to have a different wallpaper for each screen and it doesn't work.
gingerbread version issue
Check your version info: version 2.3.6 from AT&T broke scrolling wallpaper.so, now, what I want to know is If go launcher still works with the new version

I have also the SGH-I717 from TELUS and it does not scroll live wallpaper with any of the laucher that enable it (Go, Pro or ADW), but it does work with standard wallpaper.
Do we have a confirmation of the root of the problem (harware, OS or software)?
I can only get scrolling wallpaper using go launcher ex. Only problem now is: any image I use is automatically zoomed in.it does scroll, though. butt it looks like crap zoomed in.I have to choose a landscape image, like a field. Dumb.still hoping ICS fixes these issues.
Its definitely software. I won't have much time to mess with it more until next week.

As said in several places, Launcher Pro works fine too, as for any others don't.. Dunno. Wall Switch + Launcher Pro = Just Works.
Sorry, but I am not sure if the reply from khaytsus is for me or raythedestroyah?
Because in my case for regular image set as standard wallpaper (not Live) everything work well, but for Live wallpaper that are designe to also scroll with the home pages from left or right, none of them work with any of the Launcer (Pro, Go or ADW).
Again, any help would be apreciated.

My bad, in my hurry to be a smartass I mis-parsed your statement. So static wallpapers are okay for you, but not live wallpaper.
Been a few months since I looked at LWP, but yeah you're right, I installed a few I had tried in the past and no scrolling.
Hey!!! Thanks!!!!, I'd installed both apps, works great!!!

[Q] App drawer lag

How come when using a high 3D grafic live walppaper, like KOI for example, the app drawer scrolling lags like Hell, but the Desktop scrolling is smooth, using same number of icons? I would expect that the Desktop scrolling to lag more cause of more complex transitions, lile scatter? Also, generally, app drawer sliding lags more than desktop, even without any wallp, but more visibe on live wallp background. And no matter if using transparent or dark background. Sliding lags even if setting background to black, if using a live wallp.
Transparency in app drawer...
Sent from my LG-P500
Remove transparency and you will have the same lag. As i said, even on black background the lag is there when using live wallp. Why not on desktop too?
It may happen because of the fact that with app drawer open, you have twice as much icons loaded (desktop + drawer) so it's not really the same number of icons. Just a tought.

No difference.
But the lag exists between app drawer and desktop no matter the transparency. All launchers have that lag, no matter they use or not transparency on app drawer. That was the question.
At least on launchers we talked about> ADW, Zeam, Go and Nemus. The last two are a bit faster indeed, but lag is still there. Why?
no lag on GO for me.. :?
and as said, even a little transparency will lead to lag on ADW, you need to put up a total solid color

Did that and still lags when having live wallp in background.
I'll stay on ADW. Using static wallp no lag or stock live wallp only some. Besides it's the most versatile launcher of all. Probably the reason for using it as deault by Cyanogen.
I say use Launcher Pro, it's best
Also, which rom u use?? Stock one just sucks! any launcher used to suck on stock for me

Use other values for overclocking, i get lag wen overclocking high,
also i get lower score on benchmarking 2D, 3D , cpu..etc
I use franco.Kernel-4 conservative just like i see you do,
if you read the kernel's thread some say that "710" is unstable (i never used it)

ADW lag solution

For anyone experiencing lag on their home screens with ADWex, I've found a fix that worked perfect for me.
ADWsettings -> general behavior -> system preferences -> scrolling cache -> DISABLE
Everything runs super smooth for me since disabling scrolling cache.
Thanks, tried it and disabled the scrolling cache. It seems to be a little smoother if not more consistent with scrolling speed. Now my phone is extremely fast!
Mine was pretty smooth using a ICS theme and a nexus preset using a live ICS wallpaper. I'll try what you posted though.
I fixed ADW EX by replacing it with Launcher Pro.
Worked for me
This made a noticeable difference in scrolling between pages. With Saurom RCVI live wallpaper scrolling now works on ADW EX and Multi Picture Live Wallpaper. The transitions are almost seamless now with this adjustment. Thank you.

I was using GO launcher for a little while until I installed a theme and it pretty much crippled my phone to a crawl. Multiple reboots and it was still messed up, therefore disabled GO launcher and went back to good old ADW (which is better to me).
Only thing I miss is the themed SMS and widgets.
Notice a difference thanks... I love adw i hated the lag and stuck with it but now this makes it much much better...

I finally got around to trying this again, nope, ADW EX is still jumpy and jaggy scrolling between desktops. Back to Launcher Pro.
here is a trick to make adw super fast and smooth...go to general behaviour>animation and effects>desktop scrolling speed....set it to around 134....it is super smooth when scrolling..i love it
I left my Scrolling speed at 715, and disabled the Scrolling Cache and ADW slowed to an absolute crawl. I then kept the scrolling speed and set the Cache to Low Quality and its completely smoothed out. So it seems like this isn't necessarily a consistent fix.
Weird setting my cache to disabled and speed to 150 my adw ruins great

Agreed, I couldn't have said it better.
My scrolling speed is set at 300 and bounce at 0. I suppose if you make the scrolling speed less it could help but after tinkering with various speeds I settled on 300.

Nova vs Apex vs holo launcher hd vs go launcher

Which is better?
Go. Hands down the smoothest. Although battery sucker.

I would say Nova, but the new Beta version.
It's crazy fast (Set the Scroll Speed and Animation speed to "faster then light"),transparent statusbar support (the only launcher that actually made my statusbar transparent ) and has a Kit Kat look. Tons of customization. What more do you need ?
I have 2 launchers for you. First of all is Apex Launcher it's smooth and faster and the second is KitKat Launcher it's great to live KitKat experience.

I can't believe you're discussing this...it's all matter of taste, and that's very individual. After all, all of them are free on GPlay, so try it, only you know what suits you best, and it cost nothing.

any way....I have been using go launcher. found on accident. It is really neat and I am just starting to understand it fully. Now Im seeing here that apex may take up less memory?

I had Apex.. Once. Then I downloaded Nova Launcher beta and I´m still using it No regrets about it, pretty smooth and easy launcher.
Just my opinion
You should try adw launcher. It is the only one I found that has a categorized app drawer. Makes things soo much more organized. And you can just put folder-like category shortcuts on your homescreen for easy access.
Beautyful transition-effects, great dock customisations... Gove it a try, if you are looking for a new favorite launcher.

Is there a launcher that allows alphabetical listing in the app drawer like in the samsung touchwiz?
I just installed holo laucher as the first since I bought my GN3 last year. it looks smooth and very customizable as I can finally change the grid's density from 4x4 to more icons in the home screen but I miss that one column list like app drawer from touchwiz
ADW .
ADW launcher EX pro is the best launcher i found for me
it is really awesome , just try it

I installed Nova and I must say I'm pretty impressed so far. I can configure the apps drawer in an alphabetical list style and much more.
One thing I find a little disappointing but that seems to be the same problem for all launchers is that the non resizable widgets are screwed up if I add them to the home screen when the grid size is changed to 5x5 or more

how to reposition the app drawer icon

hey all,
im a lefty, and unless im watching something i hold my tab in portrait which on my phone (z2) is fine since the app drawer icon is at the bottom, but on the tablet its top right in the most inconvenient place. does anyone know a way to reposition it without using another launcher? im rooted and have xposed installed, would be fantastic if there was a mod to fix this annoyance.
cheers in advance.
Yes i've posted about an alternate method to get in the drawer as well. I'd love to just set up a gesture or something but haven't found anyway to do that either.
Yea, it's pain in the A. On ios there are some cydia tweaks that let you set press/slide gestures to control apps and system settings, something like that would be nice. Or of cause Sony could think ahead for once and allow you to move the blood thing

I don't understand why you guys are so fixated on using the Sony launcher. Nova Launcher is so much more flexible and works more fluidly at that.

Just wanted to say thanks for the heads up. Nova is really nice. Very old school stock android style, I like it allot. And the best part....the app drawer launcher is in the middle for both portrait and landscape.
Thanks again.
