ADW lag solution - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

For anyone experiencing lag on their home screens with ADWex, I've found a fix that worked perfect for me.
ADWsettings -> general behavior -> system preferences -> scrolling cache -> DISABLE
Everything runs super smooth for me since disabling scrolling cache.

Thanks, tried it and disabled the scrolling cache. It seems to be a little smoother if not more consistent with scrolling speed. Now my phone is extremely fast!

Mine was pretty smooth using a ICS theme and a nexus preset using a live ICS wallpaper. I'll try what you posted though.

I fixed ADW EX by replacing it with Launcher Pro.

Worked for me
This made a noticeable difference in scrolling between pages. With Saurom RCVI live wallpaper scrolling now works on ADW EX and Multi Picture Live Wallpaper. The transitions are almost seamless now with this adjustment. Thank you.

I was using GO launcher for a little while until I installed a theme and it pretty much crippled my phone to a crawl. Multiple reboots and it was still messed up, therefore disabled GO launcher and went back to good old ADW (which is better to me).
Only thing I miss is the themed SMS and widgets.

Notice a difference thanks... I love adw i hated the lag and stuck with it but now this makes it much much better...

I finally got around to trying this again, nope, ADW EX is still jumpy and jaggy scrolling between desktops. Back to Launcher Pro.

here is a trick to make adw super fast and smooth...go to general behaviour>animation and effects>desktop scrolling speed....set it to around 134....it is super smooth when scrolling..i love it

I left my Scrolling speed at 715, and disabled the Scrolling Cache and ADW slowed to an absolute crawl. I then kept the scrolling speed and set the Cache to Low Quality and its completely smoothed out. So it seems like this isn't necessarily a consistent fix.

Weird setting my cache to disabled and speed to 150 my adw ruins great

Agreed, I couldn't have said it better.

My scrolling speed is set at 300 and bounce at 0. I suppose if you make the scrolling speed less it could help but after tinkering with various speeds I settled on 300.

I did the same. Its the smoothest launcher out of the main 3. It uses less kb too. You can see for yourself. Download home manager.

LauncherPro vs ADW, battery consumption & usability

Has anyone used both & can comment on battery consumption & usability?
I'm using LauncherPro and have a feeling it's not as smooth as it should be on a phone with these specs.
Rooted & have frozen the recommended apps.

I've tried both of the above launchers and personally feel that Go Launcher EX runs smoother on my Atrix. The only issue I have with it is that the homescreens are limited to 5 x 5. I've cleaned up a lot of the junk apps and am getting decent battery life out of it now. Unplugged since 6 this morning, low to moderate use and I'm at 70% at 2 pm.

The reason I think go launcher limits you to 5x5 is so when you put it in landscape every thing fits vertically. I would like to see the app drawer open faster but other than that I love go launcher.

what should be frozen to get optimal use?
I have paid versions of both and find them both to be smooth. I'm using LauncherPro Plus, as I like it's Facebook & Messaging widgets. Cheers.

I agree. None of the market launchers are as smooth as motoblur. I keep installing adw, go and or launcher pro and then uninstalling within a few hours because they aren't super smooth in transitions.

Go Launcher EX looks great....
Have to agree too that LauncherPro is not as smooth as it should be with these specs. But I'm still sticking to it since it is more customizable. Guess we just have to wait for the rewrite version of LauncherPro

[Q] Whats the Best Home ReplaceMent APP out?

Hi Guys,
Quick question out of Adw launcher and LauncherPro or Go Launcher Which is the best to use??
I want Photo Widgets But it seems theses Home replaceMents Dont have them
Launcher pro and ADW use to have Photo widgets but not anymore

I use adw now....been for about 7 mo.that now...I used to use LP....been a while tho....but I'm almost positive that LP had the people widgets but adw doesn't.....I guess it all comes down to personal preference....but there's a TON in the market....but I.always though.adw was a bit more stable

Actually, I've been using 'HE Launcher 2' lately (free from the market) and I love it. You can choose from all the popular docks (including a perfect Sense rosie, stock Gingerbread, Samsung, Froyo, espresso, blur, etc.), it has swipe-to-hide notification bar feature that works perfectly, and you can completely customize the size of your homescreens AND widgets.
Plus, Custom transitions, a blazing fast FULL app drawer, supports live wallpaper too..
I added a flip-clock with fancy widgets home, so now my phone LOOKS like it's running the Stock launcher, but it's waaay faster.
Check it out:

I have been using LP for a while now, sense was driving me nuts lol.
The stock android photo frame widget will work with any launcher..
Try out Go Launcher, it's free with alot of different themes and widgets (including a people, messaging, and Facebook widget)

Go launcher EX works wonders for me , couple it with the pure messenger and calendar and built in FB widget its stunning.
So I know this might seem funny to some people...
But I REALLY love the people widget that Sense has that lists favorites along the left but their last interaction next to them. Like latest facebook status, or call timing, or text message, etc.
Does any replacement launcher offer something similar?
Or is there a standalone app/widget that can do this?
If so, I definitely wouldn't mind parting with Sense...
I know that I'm not the only Launcherpro user out there!
Honestly I originally chose LPP because of the sense like widgets, but with the addition of themes (icon and widget) and transition animations, I really can't use anything else.
Plus I've found LPP to be more responsive than go or Adw, but i know many would argue on this point.
Really its just personal preference- they're all great launchers.

I'm anxious to see which launcher will be the first to be in 3D, similar to the EVO3D commercials, which shows the Sense home screen in 3D.
I have tried all launchers outhere and always go back to launcher pro. If you know how to set it up you'll have the smoother best looking launcher. LP is running at a cap 60fps scrolling with no lag. Transition effect "scale" and even iphone user are shock in how much more smoother my launcher is compare to an iphone 4. The widget are awesome too. Im using facebook, calendar and bookmark with honeycomb theme. Would not go back to any other launcher again. If anyone mention stutter or lag in LP is because they have not set it up right in the setting cause i was getting lag at first too.

QQLauncher

Just read about QQLauncher on www.reddit.com/r/android. It's a very nice launcher offering just what the default launcher misses. It's a shame so few widgets work. Try it out, especially the animations are slick.

Do you know where to find more working widgets? Only SiMi clock and simple calendar work in QQ.
I agree it does look good, but would like more widgets for it as well. Also pin codes don't work as you have to unlock the screen twice.
Yes it's blazing fast but many widget didn't work properly. Also if you use the custom lock you can't insert your pin as electric said. I will follow the development anyway, it looks very promising!
I'm using GO Launcher now but sometimes it slows down I think I will give ADW Launcher a try...
Yeah, it may improve and fix the bug with inserting a pin etc and more widgets etc, it has potential.

Tried ADWLauncher EX for two days. It does not offer so much more functions compared to the default launcher. Also, the default launcher has a easier and more intuitive UI and looks nice as well.
Worst part is that ADW EX lags as hell. Might be because the default launcher was still running with all wigets on it, but I was fed up with ADW anyway.
Launcher7 is till now the best replacement launcher for me, you should try it, even if you don't like WP7, change the tiles to transparent and choose a nice background and it wil look very different.
If I can share my experience I also tried GO Launcher EX and Launcher PRO in these days.
GO Launcher has a lot of way to customize your homescreen but feels a little choppy sometimes.
Now I'm running with Launcher PRO, it is very fast and has a good amount of customizations, but it's a little outdated (may 2011). I hope the developer will release a fresh version soon...

ADW was just a row of lags on my phone, and I only had 4 homescreens with approximately 5 widgets in total. The only replacement launcher that does not suck is Launcher7 imo, but it has a totally different lay-out than other launchers, which you got to love or hate. The default launcher is not bad at all.

Just tried SPB Shell 3D, it's very smooth with lots of 3D effects and all widgets for the stock launcher work perfect, except for Timescape obviously. There a texts widget that's like timescape, but smoother.
Only drawback is that it costs €10,45.

[Q] Why are live wallpapers so laggy?

As powerful as the Atrix is, it's never run live wallpapers well for me. The wallpapers themselves aren't laggy, but they cause other things to slow down.
With the stock launcher, moving between homescreens is very laggy.
With ADW EX, moving between homescreens is extremely laggy.
With LauncherPro, moving between homescreens is fluid but the app drawer is laggy.
I've tried overclocking, but it made zero difference. Any suggestions?

APEX/Nova launcher transition potential lag SOLVED

As I started messing with APEX and Nova launchers, I started to notice some homescreen transition lag when I created a 7x7 layout and added a lot of applications. It would take about 1/2 sec before the transition caught up with my finger.
The problem is with the icon labels. If you remove the icon labels from the homescreen, the lag disappears and transition is instant.
Great find. Thanks!

This only helps if you have 6x6 7x7 icon layouts. 5x5 didnt make a difference for me.
