[CWM} Telus, Rogers & Bell Kernels - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Here is a Telus kernel to be flash through cwm. Simply put the zip file into root of your phone, boot into cwm, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, and flash telus kernel zip. Thanks to Braway for is guide and instructions. I have tested this telus kernel several times, I probily would only flash on a telus stock rom. This kernel has the Telus boot image. You flash the Bell kernel, Rogers, the sames as the telus one.

Thanks this is exactly what I was looking for

CWM Flashable Rogers and Bell Stock Kernels?
First: Thanks to pterry30 for providing a stock CWM flashable Telus kernel
Second: If anyone could do the same for the stock Rogers and Bell kernels, it would be greatly appreciated! (I know Da_G provided odin pda tars, but I find CWM flashable easier to work with)

That Rogers kernel is a backup that is restored through CWM, it's not a flashable zip file. I followed the steps in that post for matching the md5's but I still got an error when I tried to use that kernel. That's why I requested a CWM flashable version. I don't have the dev skills to make a flash able zip file so I was hoping one of the development magicians could post one .

I have a rogers kernel, i will have to unzip it and take a look at it to see if i can make it a cwm zip

what Kernel is required for installing CWM from market

Question on installing CWM, i already rooted my SGS2 by flashing insecure kernel from Odia for DXKL3 and rooting it then flashing back the original kernel. now i want to install CWM, I see a lot of guides and searched, all looks like that need to install a CWM enabled rom or use a kernel that is compatible with CWM, thats where the part i get confused since most of the guide points you to a diffrent kernel from the insecure kernel, cant you use the insecure kernel that odia posted specific for my DXKL3 and install CWM from market? and i dont want to install a custom ROM just for CWM it would defeat the purpose since i want to back up my stock firmware. And don't know if the CWM kernel is compatible with DXKL3.

Do a search for cf-root (cant post link as im on my phone) any of them kernels will give you cwm recovery

Go into the original development forum. Most of the kernels there have ClockWorkMod build in.

the cwm app just hooksinto the cwm features of a kernel.
No cwm kernel means no cwm i'm afraid, so you will never be able to use cwm to backup a stock install.
However, why not just use a cf-root kernel? all that differs between cf-root and stock is the root and the cwm so provided you get the kernel matched to your choice of firmware then you should have a perfectly stable and backupable system.
taking it sligtly further away from standard, if you flash the older bootloader you can then use a jig to get rid of the warning triangle. The only day to day difference you will notice over stock is the cwm app and the superuser app.
You could do a backup of the the original kernel first, then flash a cwm kernel and create a backup of the rom itself.
I could guide you through the process. You'd need adb and Odin/Heimdall working on your computer.

Stock firmware or the branded providers rom posts and get a copy of your original firmware is the easy method .

Telus stock recovery

This is a telus stock recovery zip to flash through CWM. I can conform it works.I did not create this work. All thanks goes to Jckpsa and Braway.
Thanks a lot. is this the unrooted kernel? does this include the rom?
No this is stock recovery only. here is a link to the stock telus kernel and a stock telus rom with a rooted. You can find them in the dev part of the forum. Sorry, I can not get the links to work.
Flashing the Stock ROM rooted does not trip your flash counter. The stock kernel is a Odin flash only. Will try tonight to get some help to make the kernel a zip that we can flash through CAN.

1. make a back up of your current firmware
2. In recovery, do a wipe of the cache then go to advanced and wipe daavik cache.
3. Using odin flash the ics firmware you like.
this tutorial should help .

You already made 2 threads about rooting.
So since you "need" to be on ics,you open up another thread about gb-ics.
Whats next,a thread about how to use odin,or a thread about cwm.Or how about a thread for flashing kernel,or a thread about a rom. Then a thread about "help phone bricked".
Do us all a favour and read you lazy git.

1. Root your phone by flashing a rooted kernel containing CWM recovery (e.g. SpeedMod for GB ROMs), if not already done.
2. Make a nandroid backup of your current GB system in CWM recovery. (So you can restore it if flashing does not work or you don't like the new ICS ROM and you want to go back to GB.)
3. Have a look here for the latest ICS stock ROMs => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
There is also a description in the first post how to flash the new stock ROM with Odin.
I recommend to flash a pre-rooted ICS stock ROM from here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608071.
Download the ROM, extract the zip file, put the tar/md5 file into PDA section of Odin and flash it to your phone. (Be sure that no Kies process is running on your PC while flashing.)
4. Once you are on ICS and rooted, you can install TriangleAway (=> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114&highlight=triangleaway) app to reset the flash counter if needed.
5. Be happy and enjoy the new ICS ROM.
Good luck !

help with basic rooting and flashing roms

hello all
i have a gs2 i9100
i rooted it folowing this guide short way (update from recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994544
it installs cwm recovery 4.0.1.5 and supersu.
i tried installing a cm10.1 nightly version for my model,it allways abort with staus 7.
i tried different nightly version,no success.
then i folowed the official cm guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9100
i flashed the zimage for cwm recovery via heimdall on linux,it went well then i booted into recovery to check and success.
i didnt want to flash cm at that point (middle of the day) so i rebooted the device and problem:
i could see the samssung boot logo with the yello triangle and then the screen goes black and..nothing.
for now i restored via recovery a backup i made on the older 4.0.1.5 recovery.
i also tried looking for a kernel that matches mine - jhls4 and couldnt find one nor a solution that solved the stsus 7 error.
what could be the problem?
That thread is so old now. More phone details. Firmware you have installed or had installed before you flashed cm? Model of i9100?
Phone model is gt-i9100
Im on stock tw jb 4.1.2
Never installed any other firmware just updated the official with kies.
I rooted it from the stock recovery-installed super user and recovery as update.
The rest is in my first post.
Appriciate your help.

Flash it with philz kernel for root and custom kernel cwm recovery that will let you do anything. Philz is the easy way to root and install cwm to your i9100.
When that's install do the wipes and reboot.
Thanx for your reply
Q: any phils kernel or one that matches mine- jhls2?
2nd Q: can i flash the kenel via recovery ? Or just heimdall?
And if i flash a kernel do i have to flash a rom immedietly or can i still use the stock rom?
Total noob at this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Flash lss or lsw philz as its just the cwm that's updated in dif versions and yes this will work on your stock 4.1.2 no point in telling you to flash something that won't work on the ROM you have now then if you want to flash custom ROM you can do this from there. Either way is possible with philz . tar for Odin/hem and singed zip for stock recovery:thumbup: reading is the key to flashing well.
Thanx again
I read a lot and got a little confused.
Will do what u suggested.
Hope ill get it right this time.
Cheers.
