[Q] speedmod kernel problems - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all. I tried flashing speedmod kernel to my sgs2 that is running stock gingerbread rom. I wiped everything and flashed it through Odin. I went into settings/about phone and looked at the kernel version. It says that I have the speedmod kernel but when I try overclocking it the max cpu is 1200 MHz still.
Does speedmod kernel work with the stock rom?

Speedmod kernel doesn't allow overclocking and under volting, try another kernel like siyah's.

Did you really read the description first before you flash the kernel? I think not...
Please read the description before you flash

Speed mod kernel the best

Oh ya I thought I saw a post somewhere that said he was running at 1400 MHz with the speedmod kernel but I guess I must have been wrong. Thanks

That is correct.

Haha. Yea. Can't simply be rambling nothings to get my posts up.

Didn't want to create another speedmod thread for asking so I'm posting here.
On K3-12, using wanamlite v11.1 rom, when wifi is on, and i reboot, i would not be able to use the touchscreen at all. The pin number lockscreen will be there but i wouldn't be able to key anything. Only way to resolve this is by flashing another kernel.

Setcpu not letting me overclock?

I rooted my TB via the one click method offered by Captiankrtek and flashed Das Bamf 1.3.1. Then downloaded setcpu, autodetected speeds, tried disabling perflock (which it says was not needed) and then tried overclocking past 1024MHz, but alas, that is my highest setting. So I though maybe I need to flash the kernel. Went to Rom Manager and have tried every kernel under Mr. Bobrowitz's section. In the software information it clearly states the custom kernels but setCPU is still sticking to 1024. I tried uninstalling setCPU and reinstalling but nothing is working. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Unless you have a overclock kernal you won't be able to overclock. Sounds to me you have a stock kernal.

I am running the kernel that is included in the Das BAMF rom. setCPU shows the smartass setting and everything, but 1024 is as high as I can go
You do not have an overclocking kernel. You cannot overclock in this one. That is the problem. Look in development for an OC kernel.

I am a borderline retard I guess. I thought it came with his 1.2 kernel. Also, I tried to flash the 1.9 kernel via CWR last night but I see that link is gone today so maybe that was broken when I tried last night. Anywhootles, I just flashed the 1.2 Kernel by Adrynalyne and it works perfectly. Thanks for not bashing me for my stupidity.

Custom Kernel with SetCPU

Hi guys,
Tried searching around other threads but to no avail, This is my question:
I have running stock insecure kernel with setcpu to underclock it. I want to learn new stuff about undervolting. I am looking to new Franco Kernel as it will have undervolt function. However, in built within the franco kernel, i can overclock, underclock and undervolt, whichever i want. Hence, i know i do not need setcpu anymore.
What happens if i keep setcpu and only arrange the values from the kernel. Will the setcpu profiles interfere with the kernel behaviour? Is it a good idea that i keep the app, or just delete it.
Thank you all for your time.
Cheers,
Anjoid :fingers-crossed:
Personally I'd only use one app to control my cpu clocks. It might be ok to use two if they have the same settings but either way it just confuses things unnecessarily.
I use system tuner pro for all my clocking and volting. That way I'm not dependant on using any one kernel. I used to use set cpu but system tuner does everything it does and more.

thanks for your advise! mm. i guess if i dl a kernel that can do those i will just delete SetCPU. i am looking into franco kernel or maybe ninphetamin3. i'll have to do more research.
i'm sorry i am pretty new in the android scene, and i was thinking of flashing speedmod kernel for sgs3. i am using a mac, and seems like the only way to install the kernel is via odin. so, i guess that's a no for me right? haha.

Dude Google "mobile Odin" there is a thread right here on xda. You can use it to flash Odin files right from your phone, no computer necessary at all.

You can use mobile odin to flash (if you already have root). You can get it from the market (play store) or find it here on XDA for free.

Why don't you read some pinned threads before posting new threads?
In addition the mods don't like to see "the best blabla" threads

It's in every stock ROM. if you're rooted, using the stock kernel is all a bit pointless IMHO. "Cooked" ones can be better for battery life.
Stock kernel? Maybe the already installed sammy kernel on the official firmware

I lol'd a bit.
Stock Kernel is S3's original kernel. So if you didn't flash any kernel, you don't need to flash something.
Bad= not reading forum rules
Bad= not reading and learning
Bad= not using search
Good= the opposite of all the above
Fail= this thread
This!

Yes , I flashed Phenomenal2 Kernel,
That is why i am looking for the STOCK kernel to download......
So you have to flash a original firmware OR you download Omega App, go to Kernel, choose the right insecure Stock Kernel for your firmware and flash it via CWM
Although it's senseless, because you have no disadventages against the stock kernel with any custom kernel

Tweaks for Speedmod kernel?

Hi.
I have 4.0.4 stock rom and speedmod kernel K3-32. I can not use the Extweaks, they can be used just with siyah kernel. Is there any other tweak-app that can be used with speedmod kernel?
Thanks

what exactly ur looking in terms of tweak, have u checked the speedmod kernel thread to see if some one has posted anything like an app or a mod to do the same
if u want to tweak ur CPU u can use 'SetCpu' app from stores and see
also u can look into 'System Tuner pro' app from stores
Ps- also in future try not to create multiple threads for each of ur issue ma8, this is not good for u and its against XDA rules, instead update the same thread with ur issues each time

That is correct. After you have booted back into your ROM, I'd suggest you installed STweaks from Play Store.
Otherwise, read both the development thread and the Q&A thread.
Happy flashing!

Thanks! I just want to stick with PA 3.15 a while and see how this kernel does with it. Regarding your results, you do it with maximum usage on data/wireless and i wonder how much time you spend on the 'on screen'?

I currently run Siyah 1.8.9 with CM 10.1 nightly (20130218), and I've tried to flash Siyah 1.9.1 with both Odin (PC) and through CM recovery. Both ways end up with a black screen after the Siyah logo. I've wiped cache and dalvik as well and fixed permissions. I'm not sure what the problem is. Am I missing something in stweaks setup?
thanks in advance.
