[Q] Help optimize - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey just hoping someone could help me out, I cant seem to find a rom or a kernel that will flash on my phone, its a fascinate from telus in canada. I bricked it once before so I know how to flash but I cant seem to find a custom rom or kernel that will flash to my phone, im acually running the international version of froyo for the vibrant with a stock kernel running voodoo in it,can someone point me in the right direction im looking for a kernel that will optimize my phone to its potencial

go to the general section and look up the telus guide...

im on build 31 glitched, i was trying to enable didle, it seems it needs to be atleast on min freq 800 to wake back up else just stays in sleep mode, does anyone else encounter this? is didle even necessary?

[Q] Fastest ROM for the HERO?

Hey there. I've been running VillainROM 1.5 Froyo for about 2 weeks, and is quite dissapointed of the speed. It's to laggy, even when I'm just writing a SMS. So, i was woundering, what ROM is the fastest? i dont seek any android version under 2.0 - Thanks!
Have you tried flashing flykernel over the top of froyd? I found that helped - but only the 528/352 kernel.
I currently use Elelinux 2.2 stock with the default 528/352 - well smooth, but I find that if I go any higher than 576 flykernel the phone becomes laggy.

Don't know what that means
Elelinux for me too. It comes with the kernal so no need to worry about that. Lag could be helped by full wipe. Elelinux has now released a lighter version which may be even faster. Keep caches clean and overclock to what works best for your hero : )

I'm also using the Elelinux Froyo 2.2 ROM, so far so good
Much quicker than the 2.1 i was running.
So far no breakdowns.
I'm using elelinux's Froyo 2.2 Special Edition release and my phone is faster than it's ever been.
Apparently I can't post links to other threads. That's dumb!
I am using RCmix (experimental), its very fast, and I had no problems with it. The only problem is that it drains the battery quite fast, but still a excellent rom.

how do i know what to overclock it to+
Try without overclock, the Rom is fast anyway so you may not need it. It can be trial and error, search the forum for set CPU, you can download set CPU for free there too: )

ok firstly he said fastest
i would put money on none of them roms match the speed and smoothness of sensehero b5.1
it just lacks some of the new cool stuff people go on about which after a week you wont use it anyway so id say sensehero
VillainROM12 with Flykernel overclocked to 729MHz (by SetCPU, scaling mode=performance). Very fast and stable.

Okay, first of all, i don't know **** abour all that overclocking and all that. I'm just a newbie who learned how to root my htc and install another rom. And when people say "Overclock" i think, "Well, can't it break it i overclock it, like a computer processor?" - So, i need one to tell me exactly which rom, and everything i need to do to get it to run fast and stable. I hope someone can help

Knowing how to install a ROM is enough. Installing custom kernel is pretty much the same: get a zip file (in this case it is FlyKernel-11c #66 (Generic) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471), put in on your SD card, boot into recovery and apply the zip.
Then you install SetCPU application which allows you to change the maximum frequency of your phone's CPU. No tech knowledge is required: it has a slider to set it. The higher the frequency the faster your phone will go but setting it too high might get it unstable (apps closing, device freeze). You just need to experiment to get to the highest frequency possible.
Oveclocking cannot damage your phone (it's not like PC overclocking when people usually also raise the CPU voltage).
Get VillainROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715728
Good luck

Thanks for that detailed answer. But even that isn't enough, need instructions one by one
Just flash the Elilinux 2.2 ROM.
You won't be disappointed
Don't think anything, don't hear to anyone.. just do this..
go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689
and then just download, the rom.. and wipe everything... and just flash!!
you will be amaiged to see this, battery is best, fast, everything is perfect (9.9/10 )
Goto the Android Touch development section. Find [ Guide ] Complete newbie guide to rooting and installing roms by btdag. HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
I was in your shoes 4 weeks ago, and now I've flashed 5 roms. 2 kernels. Countless themes and a font or 3. Seriously that guide is simple and easy to learn.
As for roms, I've only tried 5, so I'm certainly no expert but I've found them all to be very close speed wise. Stability wise, floyo, froyo and villian roms seem to edge out ( but only by a little, they are all good ).
Readers digest: read the above thread, then read it again. The put all three of the above mentioned roms on you SD card. Try them all. Once you know the steps in that thread, switching roms is a breeze. That thread includes step by step instructions.
Good luck. Msg me if you have question i'll be happy to help. I was there in your shoes just a month ago and know how frustrating it can be.

[Q] Glitch kernel with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5?

I put the TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom on my Fascinate, and then installed the Glitch v1.4 beta 5 kernel. Found that my 3G no longer would connect. I looked through the dev thread, and in post #5 saw, "Signal won't work, this kernel is GSM, your fascinate is CDMA" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459530&highlight=glitch+v14)
That sounds pretty definitive that you can't use this Glitch kernel with the Fascinate, yet I could have sworn I've read about others using it. Am I misunderstanding something here?

im running glitch v14 b5 on ths 6.5 with no issues.
Humph. That certainly makes sense, given that the Glitch thread is in the Fascinate forums...but why did someone say there's a CDMA vs GSM problem?
Lemme try reinstalling it, after first doing another Nandroid backup.
Is the kernel that comes with TeamHackSung ICS 6.5 rom available, so that I don't have to fuss with Nandroid if I need to revert from Glitch?
just reflash the rom but dont wipe data.
Nope...got the same result. No 3G access.
Anything else I can try?

Groan...I'll have to put off starting over for a bit; I don't have time right now to set up everything again. And I'm a bit worried about "reactivate your current device" since, per my other thread, I'm unable to get a dial pad when calling *228.
the problem is you flashed the glitch b4 for 6.0 instead of the b4 6.1 version. If you read my guide it clearly states which version to flash. Also that link you posted is for the TELUS Fascinate NOT the Verizon Fascinate...
Well, I flashed with the b5 for 6.1 version, and while the 3G worked, I ended up with the unable-to-Nandroid-backup bug. Since the only remedy I could find (clear the cache and Dalvik) didn't help, I've gone back to the kernel that came with TeamHackSung ICS. I'll keep an eye posted to see if future Glitch versions manage to fix the backup bug. Thanks for all the help.

S'pose that's a workaround, although it makes the noob in me a bit nervous to keep flashing part of the OS like that.
Plus, despite having read the feature list, I'm still not clear just what switching to Glitch does for me.

Glitch gives you the ability to overclock up to 1500mhz... also in call audio is clear and alot more crisp than the stock kernel...the bug where you have to always adjust the volume down on every call is fixed aswell. I also like the glitch recovery alot better...you can wipe cache and dalvik at the same time.

Do you think there's any chance that these changes to the recovery have something to do with the Nandroid backup problem?

Yes, thanks, someone told me that on another thread. To summarize:
To activate phone or update roaming without a keypad:
*22890 ---> This will program/activate your phone.
*22891 ---> This will update your roaming capabilities.
No need to hit other buttons after dialing. Let it finish, and reboot your phone.
You can also try dialing star 228 and then hit the menu button and add 8 or 10 2-second pause to it... It will look like this: *228,,,,,,,,,1
Hey guys, do you need the gingerbread boot loader before going to glitch? I can't find them in the vanilla ROM post.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Here ya go.
You don't really "need" the bootloaders before flashing glitch, but you should definitely have them to minimize any issues. Also, if you like BLN, I would flash B4 as opposed to B5, it's not working quite right on the latest beta.

With the B5 kernel, my backlights come on when I have unread emails...and since I don't check them very often, I worry the feature is using a lot of battery. Is there a way to turn it off?

[Q] Got a couple ?s about kernels

Ok guys ive been running AOKP milestone 4 for over a week now and am loving it. I follow the forums kinda closely and see most people are running custom kernels. Now ive tried a Glitch kernel while I was on TSH 6.5. Loved the speed and CPU tweeks, however as soon as I would flash it I would loose my 3G. Everytime this would happen. In addition to not being able to successfully do a backup. So I went back to stock.
So now that Im on AOKP 4 I see some of yous are still running a glitch kernel so I tried to put one one yesterday.....I saw the Glitch splash screen(BTW I am still trying to figure how to change splash screens ...so if anyone learned something new... ) and thats the last thing I saw. LOL It just froze on that screen. Had to go back to stock and rebuild.
So does anyone have an idea of compatible kernel for AOKP 4 with maybe an idea of what I did wrong.
Before you guys jump on me and tell to look on other threads, I have. I dont post unless Im truely stuck.

In order to get the Glitch splash screen you will need to Odin Gingerbread bootloaders.
As for you losing 3g, that tells me you're flashing the wrong version of Glitch. (or you're not on Verizon)
Ssewk2x fixed the nandroid failure for the most part in his latest test kernel as well, he has a Dropbox link up somewhere. Search through his posts if you need it. This kernel should also be compatible with AOKP M4 so it's your best bet.
I am def on Verizon. And as for the proper version of the kernel, I was simply flashing the same version everyone else said they were running. B5 V14 i think it was.
Whatcha mean GB bootloader?
i just tried to flash V14 B5 for ths build 6 which seems to be what others are running again, and yet again no 3G. cant find a fix for it. Oh well stock kernel for me for now i guess.

If you are using build 6 you should be flashing the kernel that specifically says it's for build 6.
Why are you flashing build 6 anyway? It's outdated by two releases, build 7 just came out this afternoon.
There's no fix for it because nothing is broken.
EDIT* I flashed 6.1 and i got 3G

[Q] overclocked and unofficial ICS

I have rooted SGN on att and flashed with odin pda-overclock and CWM recovery all working well and on 2.36 GINGERBREAD.UCLA1, baseband I717UCLA1, Kernel 2.6.35.11.
would it be ok to odin flash unofficial ICS?
I ask because previously I was rooted with ICS but been trying to overclock as it never with through CWM recovery or through odin.
I has tried Abyss but thats when everything went wrong and not sure if I had the wrong abyss files, anyway bricked it and now replaced but now am scared to try new things on it with out some advise.
Am a bit of a noob but have some minor experience with droids.
Am pretty sure I missed something and or just did something wrong

Unless I'm behind on the boards, over clocking isn't possible until the Kernel Source Code is released by the manufacturer...and that won't happen until the update is officially released.
They normally come out soon after the release: soon being relative.
Any fine-print readers out here?
Does GPL dictate time frames for a release of SC?

Flash the NC5 stock tar or one-click, each located in the development forum.
Since you're on an AOSP based rom, you're best bet is to go completely stock prior to assuming you've got a lemon.
The flash procedure for you may be slightly different. To get it to completely stick, factory reset your device, and flash the tar from a power off state.
Report back once complete.
Good luck!
