[Q] gtalk 4.0.4 apk for GB (root) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
This is my first post here so hopefully i'm not breaking any major rule.
I'm looking for a way to install the new gtalk on a stock rooted 2.3.5 i9100.
The latest version 4.0.4 has multiple account support which i've been waiting for ages !
I found britoso's and theos0o's threads for older versions and I2asta method of installing it with root explorer but couldn't find the new one anywhere...
PS
I got my gt-i9100 gb 2.3.5 phone from my work, so I'm not allowed to flash custom firmwares (no chance for CWM and insecure kernels).
Best (and most importantly) I can root & unroot it back with unlockRoot.

[Q] Safest and easiest way to root?

Apologies in advance I am new so some of these questions may be retarded:
First of all I am using:
Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
Android Version 2.3.3
GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
I would like to root my device to use Chainfire 3D (to play THD games) and other ROMS
What would be the easiest and most stable way to root in order to use a variety of roms and upgrades? I am afraid to 'brick' my device and I was reading through chainfire's updated kernel thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 but got confused with some of the terminologies and the number of files available for download.
The Lite'ning Rom v1.3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274 seems simple enough to use and uses XWKE8.
I would also like to know if it’s easy to revert back to stock after the device has been rooted. Is it necessary to keep wiping your device and backing it up when installing new ROMS or reverting back to stock?
I would also be very grateful if someone could explain some terminologies regarding Kernels, Odin, Superoneclick any other general info would be appreciated!

[Q] kernel question

hi to everyone, im new her (well been checking for a while since i goy my first epic but i just decided to register) i have a question that i havent been able to find out, i just got a galaxy S2, and i want to root it, first to remove al unwanted apps (belive me in mexico, Telcel charges phones with a lot of useless ****) i already read how to root it, i know about the insecure kernel and all that stuff (i have a little previous experience with Epic 4G) but here is the thing
the version on mi cel is 2.3.4 and kernel UMKG4, from what i'd understand i must install an unsecure kernel (the same as the OEM one but unsecure version) so i can root it and then get CMV, super user, etc
so i havent been able to find this kernel version, what happens if i install another kernel version? and then if i want to flash back to OEM to remove the yellow triangle at boot, will it work with another kernel version even if its not the oem one?
i thank you in advance for clearing this doubts
A different kernel version should not cause any trouble as long it's not an "ancient" one (like KE2 or KE7).
Also see that it's a kernel that comes from/for a ROM with the same Android version - 2.3.4, in your case, so XXKG3 should work fine for you.
For XXKG3 there's root kernels, stock kernel and everything else you need floating around.

my telus fascinate SGH-T959D was update to F/w 2.3.3 by mistake

Is there a root app for F/W 2.3.3?
The ones i used in the past don't work with 2.3.3
if there is a 2.3.3 root app, can someone please post a link?
if not, how can I get back to the pre 2.3.3 version?

2 Questions for the Player/WiFi 3.6

Hi guys,
My 1.st question: Is anyone about to make Custom ROMs for the Galaxy Player 3.6 OR are there ROMs from the bigger models which (could) work on the 3.6 ?
My 2.nd question: I managed to root my device on the original (out of the box) firmware via ZergRush (Easy root/the commandline method).
Now I updated the Firmware via Samsung Kies and the method doesnt work anymore (after the 3rd Rush it thinks it is rooted but it fails when he wants to access the fs and copy the Superuser.apk and so on (so no root at all). There are no methods to root the newest firmware (please correct me if I'm wrong), so i would like to flash back the old one.Does anyone know where I can get the old firmwares (like an firmware-archive), because I didn't find anything on the official Samsung page.
Hope you can help me!

[Q] Rooting a Korean Galaxy Player 4.0 (yp-gb1) 32Gig

Hi,
I could really do with some help regarding rooting my Korean yp-gb1. I've done a lot of forum searching here in xda, read several posts, and still I haven't found a solution - hence this thread.
What I have found is that the Korean version does not root with superoneclick like other versions seem to effortlessly do.
There was a suggestion in this thread to use a modified stock kernel, odin and tegrak kernel. I have the same stock firmware (2.3.6) that is mentioned but unfortunately my kernel (KRKPH) does not match that of the one the OP has (KRKPC). I posted a reply to the thread a few weeks ago but have not had any reply.
I've recently rooted a Nexus 7 and rooted and installed a custom ROM on a Motorla Milestone, but this Korean galaxy s wifi 4.0 is proving a little troublesome.
Help please.

Here is a link to YP-GB1 Firmware list
it's in korean so you might want to use google translator
However, They do not have KPH firmware
so get KPC first and use FOTA upgrade (on air upgrade)
to update to KPH
then use tegrak kernel to root.
