Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, i've had a look round but couldn't see anything.
Is there a way to backup or extract my current O2 UK Rom? I totally srewed my motherboard last time i tried to use another rom on my xda orbit as it wasn't cid unlocked. doh! Anyway i've had my motherboard replaced by O2 and was planning to get my device CID unlocked and install another rom but i would like a backup of the original O2 UK Rom just in case it all goes pair shaped.
Oh yeah forgot to mention that i currently use spb backup to backup my device but i dont think you can restore the image from the bootloader menu.
Thanks in advance.
Paul
XDA Atom Backup
1. Run an upgrade (until the first screen where it says extracting... blahblah) without connecting your phone into your PC
2. Open the directory C:\Windows\Temp
3. you will see all files needed for upgrade including the fresh clean ROM. (they are hidden so you should set your folders setting to view hidden files.)
4. Save your personal settings on your phone using standard backup software like Spb Backup or Sprite Backup.
5. Now you're ready to flash your device!
Cheers!
Alright, so I have rooted my Captivate, and brought it up to 2.2 (no thanks to AT&T). My issues are the following. Before I started messing with the operating system at all, I did a full Nandroid backup. My special situation is that I had contacts not associated with my Gmail account, and not synched to my SIM card, because it was full. These contacts should be backed up with the nandroid backup, but is there a way to simply extract them and put them on my computer, or have them back on my phone, without overwriting all of the data on my phone again? I'm a little bit desperate, and haven't been able to figure this out. Thanks so much for any help.
Edit: Just to make things a little clearer, here's what specifically I'm looking to do. I would like to be able to take the data.img file, and extract the contacts from it to my computer. Also, is it possible in Nandroid to restore just the contacts to the phone?
Have you tried exporting your contacts to a vcard in the phone's settings? this would save a .vcf file to your phone's sd card, which you can then e-mail or send to your pc.
contacts > menu > Import/Export > Export to SD card
Vcard
Well, because I already made the software changes and went to 2.2, the contacts arent currently loaded, but instead stored in the Nandroid backup. Is it possible to do this with just my nandroid files?
I see. I'm not sure how you can do that. Do you have the nandroid backup on your pc? Can you try running it on an old android phone?
Unfortunately, I do not have an older android device to load this up with. Anyone have a suggestion for how I might be able to open up the data file and extract some of the information? I do have the nandroid folder with all of the parts of the backup on my windows machine.
i am actually trying to do the very same thing. its hard because i cant just restore the nandroid backup because the kernels do not match up and i have been having a hell of a time getting back to a 2.1 kernel and restoring. it keeps boot looping.
i am trying to track down where in nandroid the contacts are stored because you can do an advanced restore and choose from specific directories so it might work. but can not find it so far. good luck, ill be following this thread so if you figure it out, let us know.
Well I have a fascinate, so I cant give you specific files to use etc, but I have no problem flashing 2.1 .tar through odin while I am on 2.2
For example, if I run into a problem on an eb01(2.2) ROM, I can just odin my trusty dl09(2.1) .tar and I am back to stock, bloated dl09 kernel/baseband/rom. Perhaps you can look in your specific device forum for an equivalent odin image?
I do not know how the nandroid backup is built, but would it be possible to burn the image to an SD card and take the files off of there? Or maybe using WINRAR to extract the files? The problem is, again, I do not know how it is made. I will try this as soon as I can get to my computer.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
so what i ended up doing to get this to work was flashing JI6 in odin and then restoring nandroid.
Well, I dont know where these backups are going, after backing up, if i go in nand manager, I see the file, but when clicked to explore, says this type file cannot be opened.
online nand says backup was successful, but there is nothing in the file. And it shows it as file size: 4kb.

I want to reset my HTC Mozart (Mango 7.5) for some reason but want to take a backup of the entire phone so can restore after reset. I've Zune 4.8 on my PC.
Any idea how? I could find any option in Zune or in phone to take backup.
cheers...
Hi,
If I understand your issue correctly then you want to do a full backup before fiddling with your phone.
This is possible via the WP7 Backup via Zune (although not officially supported, there's a great application for that purpose: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14258464#post14258464).
You only need the correct DLL (see links in the topic) and the Windows Phone Support Tool.
The backup process using this tool is straightforward and contains ALL data (SMS, contacts, you name it ).
However, you can only restore 100% of the backup - e.g. there's no possibility to integrate the SMSs you received after creating the backup.
You will also end up with the applications and the WP7 version that was installed at the time you created the backup!
If you are looking for means to backup your data now and restore them to a different WP7 version or different installation, then I have to disappoint you for now - there is currently no possibility.
But there are people working on it
hmm, thanks for the link and information but seems like I'm not that much guru
I would wait for some easier solution and will do the backup manually.
cheers ...
Hi all,
I'm getting acostomized to my wph7 HTC mozart, but there's always a but...
Doing complete backups using cab sender is fine so far but i need to restore only part of those backups. Has anyone been able to achieve anyway to open those dat files saved on the windows phone update folder that the backup is placed on.....
Backup my Titan via Zune (forced backup, but seemed to work 100%).
Checked backup and restored to the phone OK.
Phone sent to HTC for repair.
Connected phone to PC / Zune expecting backup to be there and available for restore but when I go to Settings / Phone / Update it checks for update, message saying I have the current version but no backup listed to restore.
HTC returned the same phone, re-flashed or whatever....
Loads of info now missing....
Any advice really appreciated :0
ps, I backed up the backup into another directory (I think)

YOu can check if the back is still on the computer
C:\Users\*Username*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update
If theres a folder in there then thats the backup ... now as for Zune not restoring it maybe it's because Zune doesn't see it as the phone that backup was created from.
Only other way that you could've restored was using the Cabsender or a type of W7Backup but those don't work since Microsoft hasn't updated the update tool to that of the new Zune.

Hi Tachi,
Thanks for your reply ..... I had just done the following before I saw your post....
"OK, resolved .... I think.
The file that was in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Phone Update was removed when I connected the phone. Luckily I copied it.
Dropped it back into the folder above, restarted Zune and now its there.
Just restoring.
So, moral of the story is back up your backup. "
Just got to the end of the (very short) restore process and got an error, didn't restore.
Restarted phone and try again.
Failing that, will try and restore using the Cab Sender app from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346276
Same error code again, 801812E0
