Connecting to Virtual Machines Via Splashtop THD - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Recently got the new splashtop thd and it looks great, just a question though - How can I connect to guests instead of hosts?
I have 2 virtual machines I'm interested in connecting to for my forensics coursework. One is a win7 vm and another is a backtrack vm. Both are running on a Win7 host that I have no problem connecting to.
I've tried to setup various NAT/Bridge settings and I still can't see the exact network address of the VM's on my tablet (I've gone as far as mac spoofing and assigning static IPs).
I do get some vmnet options showing up - but none of them are the correct address.
How can I connect to either of my VM's and if I wanted to remotely connect to them is a VPN the best route to take?

I haven't tried your specific setup, but as a work-around until you figure it out, you can remote into the host, then access the guest (either locally, or remotely)..
For example, I can use splastop to remote into my laptop at home. I have another box running an OS X VM that I connect to from my laptop via VNC. So I just remote into the laptop (via splashstop), and from the laptop, fire up VNC to get to the OS X guest on the other box.
It's an extra step, so it's not pretty, but maybe it'll help in the mean time.
My next step was to install the splashtop client on the OS X guest, but like I said, I haven't done it yet. I'll let you know if I have any success.

Try setting up internet discovery on the VM and leaving it connected. Then let splash top figure out how best to connect to it lol. Good luck!

If you know how to set your router to "port forward #"3389" to the "VM IP:3389" it will work awesome.

I thought the outgoing ports were randomly assigned?

[Q] VPN Connection

does anyone know how to make a working vpn connection with the touchpad?
i couldnt get one.
i have win 7
tried vnc too,
did anyone get an working vpn connection?
works for me. my proxy server uses pptp so i download pptp plugin from market and all's good.
I think if you have an ASA you can try the built in anayconnect client provided you have a mobile license activated on the Cisco otherwise use IPSEC on your gateway device. I never played with pptp on the touchpad before.
I saw this but what can I do by joining a VPN?
is there someone who can write up an a quick tutorial for the ones that dont know how to do it.
that would be apriated.
i want to control windows 7 remotly with it

Bump... Same question. Out of all the people who have recently bought the touchpad, there has to be someone out there that can give a short explanation on how to use the native VPN capability to connect to a Windows system. I have searched all over the net for the answer and have come across many unanswered forum threads.
Below are instructions I used on Win 7 to create an incoming VPN connection to make it available to be connected to.
pcworld. com/article/210562/how_to_set_up_vpn_in_windows_7. html (take the two spaces out of the link, cant post links yet since Im a NOOB!!)
Step by Step: Building a VPN (Incoming)
Step 1 Click the Start button, and, in the search bar, type Network and Sharing.
Step 2 Click Change Adapter Settings in the left-hand menu.
Step 3 Click File, and then New Incoming Connection.
Step 4 Select the users you'd like to give access to and click Next.
Step 5 Click Through the Internet and select Next.
Step 6 Select the Internet Protocol you'd like to use. (The default TCP/IPv4--the line highlighted in the screenshot below--will work fine.)

On the touchpad when using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection type and enter the host name, I get this error "Connection attempt has failed due to configuration issue with server"
When using the VPNC connection type, and enter the host name and password, I am prompted to fill in several fields that I dont know what to enter.
I use my laptop to log into my Win7 desktop all the time easily via the Remote Desktop Connection app. Hopefully there is something similar coming to the touchpad.
I have an openvpn subscription with strongvpn - this works well for the technically deficient peeps like myself to have an added layer of security when using windows machines in a public wifi area (i.e. hotels)
I asked strongvpn about any support for webos, and they were not sure of any workarounds to date. Any new ideas on this? I am using an open vpn (as opposed to their ptpp). They said that on rooted android devices open vpn will work following one of their tutorials.
If you are technically sound only then you will be able to set up a VPN and solve these kind of issues yourself..Average PC users like me will avoid indulging in these configurations as they are too complicated for us
Why not try an already established, reliable VPN service provider for touchpad??
you can definitely Google them and can choose amongst the choices you get..That would be far easier believe me
[Q] VPN support
I was wondering if anyone has tried vpn support on the touchpad? I am looking at using it overseas as a way to watch amazon VOD while I travel.
Edit: Found out I needed to download a free app from app catalog for PTP support. Works now when I connect to my school network. Also I found out that playon services work too on touchpad so I might try that for netflix.

[RESOLVED?] Ad'hoc connectivity problem

Hi Everyone,
I'll keep this short.
Stop mucking around with wpa_supplicant files. Download this program called Virtual Router:
http://virtualrouter.codeplex.com/
It shares you existing wired internet connection the same way manually creating an ad'hoc network does, except when your android device tries to connect to the network it actually works.
Let me know if it works for you, because its worked for 4 different devices i know of so far without any tinkering;
SGS2 with modified wpa_supplicant file
SGS2 without modified wpa_supplicant file
SGS1 without modified wpa_supplicant file
ASUS Transformer tablet PC without modified wpa_supplicant file
Cheers
Do you know of anything available for OSX that does this?
I tried searching around for one but I cannot find one. Sorry
I'm not very familiar with Macs, but have you tried Virtual Router running through Boot Camp?
Does not work for me. I got an Error saying Virtual Router could not be started. All my drivers are up to date and my SGSII is connected to my PC
Virtual Router won't work on Windows 7 home basic edition.
So this program does just the same as connectify?

Could you give me some details about your OS and Hardware? I'm certainly not claiming to be a wizz when it comes to Hardware and Networking problems, but i may be able to help

Yeah sorry! I didn't read the documentation of the program before posting, but apparently this program only works on Win7 (minus Basic Edition)

Sure, although internet sharing is achieved through a slightly different process. If anyone has had problems connecting a Android device through Connectify, i strongly recommend they give Virtual Router a try. Chances are it will work on Virtual Router (providing you're running Win7)
Also, when i run a speed test on my S2, i find internet speed is slightly faster on VR than Connectify. I don't know why that is (must be to do with the way both programs connect devices) but i'll take it!
Cheers

You can only share a wifi connection through Virtual Router when your PC is connected to a wired connection, i don't believe Virtual Router will be able to share wifi coming from your HSPA modem.
Also, how are you connecting your S2 to your computer?
Hi! With my Win 7 Ultimate SP1 doesn't work. "Virtual Router Could Not Be Started!" error.
Same for me W7 Proffesional

[Q] PC Remote Control over WiFi

as it shows on the title,is it possible to connect my android based device to my PC via wifi hotspot and control it from my phone, its like teamviewer but without having to connect to the internet ,i.e the connection would be between the pc and cellphone directly.
i hope my point is clear.
Sometime like RDP will work over a LAN, but having never used a wifi hotspot I'm not exactly sure if the connection would be correct. Connected to the same router a phone would be able to use RDP to connect to the local IP (usually 192.168.x.x) without ever going through the internet.
If I tether my Droid 3 and the Windows 7 laptop with bluetooth this method works with any app that supports Microsoft RDP. You would also need to be using a Windows version with RDP host support to get this to work.
thanks for your reply
I'm looking for a remote desktop app for the Android that uses (or is able to use) a bluetooth connection to connect. Or if that's not possible, a local wifi connection, ie: direct from my droid to my computer's wireless card, using only my local area connection.
Does anyone know an app that will do this?
It needs to give me the full screen of my computer, so nothing like Gmote or any remotes used for media centers will work for this project. I'd also like it to keep my screen on the computer while I use it, instead of locking it up.
Basically PhonemyPC but without having to use the internet to do so.
My reasons? I'm trying to connect to and control my Carputer running Centrafuse in my Eclipse. So that I can leave the car running, go outside of it, and pull up the full screen to push buttons and control the car's media center (and more) or even from the back seat. You know.. for the ladies Without having to send every command over 3g to verizon's servers, back out to a tower, and back into my carputer, slowing things waaay down. Thanks!
Well you could use Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) if your carputer is running Windows XP Pro or 7 Pro/Ultimate. Bluetooth support is better on Windows 7 as it has a newer stack. RDP host functionality is not included in home edition versions of Windows. The biggest advantage of Microsoft RDP is it doesn't require any extra software on the Windows host and is relatively easy to connect to. For the Android device, just search the market for your any remote desktop program that supports RDP. A disadvantage to RDP is that it sends the host system back to the Windows login screen when a remote session starts. This is a security feature so others can't see what you are doing and I don't think it can be disabled.
You could also try VNC, its similar to RDP and will work on other OSes, home versions of Windows, Linux, etc.
Either bluetooth or wifi tether (which is basically ad-hoc) should work. If the computer can surf the internet from the phone then it must be getting a local IP assigned.
Thanks for your suggestion.
However, this doesn't seem to apply yo what I need as A. It's for a mac (I have a PC) B. it doesn't seem to be an actual live streaming remote PC type of program, more like a monitoring program that sends you screenshots and data every few minutes, and finally.. from what I can tell their app is for ipod only, no android.
Maybe I'm mistaken, but thanks anyways
have you tried 2x client rdp/remote desktop?
EDIT:
after reading more of what you are trying to do...if you just want a media center remote, use myremote donate. it gives you keyboard and mouse control, as well as a full media center remote. works off wifi. you would need to download the server app for your puter off their website, and their client app connects to the server app to allow control of the computer. I use it all the time as a media center remote control. works awesome!
Try gPad, it's awesome. I hope that's what you're looking for. =)

[Q] reverse tether? is it possible?

I'm basically on a per-MB data plan, and my Fascinate's wifi receiver is horrible, even compared to my iPod Touch 4.
Right now I am getting wifi through a high-gain directional usb adapter. I can share the connection to my iPod through an AdHoc network, and Firestarter's internet sharing feature [on Ubuntu].
But since the Fascinate doesn't recognize AdHoc, I cannot find a way to reverse tether my phone, that is, use my Laptop's connection on my phone.
Is it possible?
I tried making a Hotspot with my fascinate, connecting to it with my laptop, so my laptop was something [I forget the exact numbers] like 10.42.43.114, and my phone was 10.42.43.120. I tried Proxy Droid, telling it to use 10.42.43.120 SOCKS5 proxy (I used ssh localhost -D1111 on my laptop for socks5 proxy), and tried loading a page. I got nothing. Then I tried setting up a SQUID http proxy, and this time I got a "Squid access denied" message, so it was loading from my laptop.
but I tried this again later, and could not even get squid to load anything after that.
Is there a way to do this easily?
Maybe you can try couple possible solutions from here?

I can't get the connections bridged in linux. I tried following some steps someone posted somewhere, but it gave me an error, saying my wifi [wlan1] couldn't be added to the bridge [br0]
You can try this: http://www.maryfi.com/
Saw it on lifehacker

Looks fine.. except I can't be rebooting into Windows 7 all the time..
I have Ubuntu, as I stated in my original post
There is a new app called ReverseTether that allows you to do just that and it doesn't require any additional software or tech savviness, and it's very straight forward and simple to use.
Check this out:
Benn awhile since I used bridge utils but I seem to recall similar errors when I had an IP assigned to all the interfaces. I had to have the two interfaces without ips and assign the ip to br0 instead. If I remember correctly.

[Q] 2X Remote Desktop Client

Just wondering if anybody has had any luck getting the 2X remote desktop client to connect with their desktop/laptop? I'm on stock 2.3.4 and first I connect to my workplace VPN with the native android VPN, then try to remote desktop to my windows 7 work computer. I get the blue "Windows 7 Professional" screen, sometimes getting as far as the "Welcome" message, but then it just hangs there.
If anyone has got this working can you post what android rom you're using and what version of windows you're connecting to? Thanks... if it works with a non-stock rom this may be the thing that gets me to go away from stock...

Check out the teamviewer app on the market it works great for remote desktop. I use it all the time. You will have to install the teamviewer software on your computer. It works great and it's free.
sent from my CM7-dx2 using XDA premium
Thanks. I may try Teamviewer but it sounds like VNC. The thing stopping me from using VNC is my work laptop has a dynamic IP. With RDP I can point it to my computer name as long as I'm connected to the VPN. One post on another forum says when they switched to another tablet they could not remote desktop any more. I'm going to flash CM7 tonight and see if it works on there.
No luck on CM7, same issues trying various RDP apps. I can VPN then RDP to my work computer from my home computer every time, so I doubt it's a problem with my work computer or network.
Wann say also that I really enjoyed the time I spent with CM7. Just its camcorder focus was blurry and home videos are my number one priority besides work.
