[Q] proud owner or "should I...?" - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

hi guys,
I've been reading a lot these days, before my x10 mini arrives and I noticed threads are kind of outdated for new (newb) owners like.
Anyway I have my share of experience modding phones so I believe I've collected all necessary tools to achieve a clean cm7 install-
Thing is, supposedly the new phone will be an unlocked 1.6, so I'm wondering if this implies an unlocked bootleader or should I do it anyway-
Should I still try a S1TOOL run? (only after SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE I know)
Should I upgrade from 16. to 2.1 trough SEUS?
Should I flashtool the 11 naa kernel then?
I guess my question would be if it's actually a direct way to reflash cm7-
Anyway thanks a lot in advance, it's a great forum and I have a lot to learn
regards,
moncho

s1 tool - to make sure you can unlock your boot loader safely
upgrade to 2.1 - required
flastool - no yet.
things to do.
1. update to 2.1
2. make sure the base band is compatible
3. root phone - via super one click (highly suggested)
4. make sure phone can be safely unlocked via s1 tool
5. unlock boot loader
6. flash custom kernel
7. flash custom rom
your phone is actually sim unlocked and does not neccessarily means that the boot loader is unlocked.
btw welcome to xda

just wanted to say I've installed cm 2.2 and it's working flawlessly, thank you developers for your hard work---

1. go to settings and then check about phone. should give you the model
3. i believe yes for the most roms
1) how the heck do you know if you have an x10i or x10a??? (we know its the mini pro as has the keyboard )
A)U can check it at setting-->about phone
2) what tools etc do we required?
A)If it was from 1.6, u can upgrade to original SE stock 2.1 update 1 using pc companion. Any latest 2.2 or 2.3 ROM u will need to root your phone using some application. (try to use super one click)
3) do you have to upgrade to 2.1 before 2.2/3?
A)No, u dont have to.
4) what is the basic procedure to flashing?and whats needs to be done?recovery etc?
A)To flash ROM (any custom rom except SE stock rom)
i)Your device must be rooted
ii)Most of the custom ROM can be install using Clockworkmod recovery or Xrecovery, thats mean your rooted device must have any revocery apps on it. but sometime u can flash ROM using Flash tools (if the rom is in ftf format)
iii)To flash kernel, you must unlock the bootloader. After that, u can flash kernel using Flash tools.
5) finally whats one of the best roms(2.2 x)?
A)I have no idea about which is The best roms. But if u like to have ginger bread custom rom. I suggest to use MiniCM7 2.2.0 (android version 2.3.7) and the other one is MiniCM7Pro V21. This two ROM knowing as the most stable ROM than the others. Any problem u can find the thread about all those things and tools that im mention above.
is this help u?

[Q] Unlocking Bootloader - Pros and Cons

I'm currently using an X10i CM7-ZMOD android 2.3.5 with locked bootloader and baseband 2.1.71.
I'm thinking about unlocking my bootloader when a stable ICS ROM is released but I just want to exercise some caution.
My questions is: What are the pros and cons of unlocking my bootloader?
I'm a total noob so please bear with me
There are no cons from unlocking bootloader,pros- you can install most of the custom roms available.and install any kernel directly through flashtool
Sent from my X10S using xda premium

Pros:
- direct kernel load (so on custom ROMs loading of ROM and whole system is little faster)
- more kernels (but on X10i are also great locked bl kernels)
Cons:
- if you dont unlock bl with extreme caution, you may completely brick your phone (cant be software restored, you need highly specialized service or buy JIG or JTAG box , but highly expensive)
- if you dont flash every ROM with extreme caution, you may completely brick your phone also (upper notice also )
I am very advanced user, but still on locked bootloader, because its 100% save even you mod a kernel (as I am doing often) On locked bootloader you cant brick you device.
I was also thinking many times about unlocking for ICS 4.0 (CM9 beta), but still its not usable rom for daily use, so I will wait until it will be as RC candidate
Thank you!
Thanks to both of you for replying. At least now I'm full aware of the benefits of unlocking the bootloader and the consequences of not doing it correctly
Thanks again
Unlocking BL is not a big herculean task nw .. there isn't much to bother nw as it can be done on flashtool with a click... bt the frst few methods of unlocking were kinda bit tough for noobs. Bt if u use Flashtool , its so easy.....
N second.. unless u be so dumb n too lazy to read instructions u wont brick an x10. Or else as the above user said u shud tinker with kernals to brick it ..even our masterbrain Doom has bricked it. But as normal users u rarely play with kernal tweaking

I agree with HeliumX10's cons, plus: WARRANTY.

[Q] Couple things about Atrix 4G

Hi!
Im proudly owner of motorola milestone. It was great phone with blocked bootloader, but I'm old and I had in my live some "normal phone" so I didnt cry about locked BL. I simply dont need unlocked BL because in time when I play with Stone We had a lot of rom by recovery.
But from time when I made some weird things took a lot time and a lot of things change in new smartphones so I have some questions for You.
1) On milestrone I could without problems update 2.1>2.2 and downgrade it to 2.1 with official sbf, and I know Atrix has official update from 2.2 to 2.3. I still can make this without problems? (from 2.2>2.3>2.2 and other ways...)
1a) I saw news about update to ICS, and it Was on motorola page (forgot which one). It will be in this year? (official q3 2012)
2)Do I need to unlock BL to use "roms" from recovery? Or I need recovery only?
(like neutrino / cm7)
3) I will not use any of atrix accessories, it will be for me mp3 player, phone and maybe sometimes game console. I still need to unlock BL? And if yes, for what?
3a) when we are speaking about games, every rom fully support tegra?
4) Is something what I need to know about atrix 4g before I will purchase it?
5) Can any user of this phone who live in germany tell me what about using germany mobile network?
sorry for lame questions and thanks for answers

1. No. Due to bootloader changes between 2.2 and 2.3 you can't just use an sbf. You can however flash a fruitcake which is just a copy of the boot and system partitions. Doesn't do anything to the bootloader. Your bootloader needs to be unlocked to do this and you will need to flash a customer recovery program such as CWM. However, you can use an sbf if you are going between the same version without unlocking the bootloader. Example 2.3.4 to 2.3.4.
1a. Yes. We will should be seeing an ICS upgrade anytime from now to September.
2. Your bootloader will need to be unlocked and a custom recovery will need to be flashed.
3. If that's all your planning to use it for then there really isn't a reason you will need to unlock the bootloader.
3a. Every rom should as far as I know.
4. Some people report that the battery gets quite hot and causes problems. I'm lucky to say that I've had the phone for over a year and haven't had an issues.
5. Sorry, can't help you with question 5, but I hope I was able to answer the rest of your questions.
so without unlock bootloader I cant use custom recovery? In my MM I have recovery and from this recovery I can start "custom" and from this custom I can recover roms...
And what about update from 2.2 > 2.3, when moto release 2.3 for atrix it should be possible to update it without unlock bootloader? Only with OTA?
For god sake, why everyone are making us soooo much problems about custom OS... This is my phone and I should make with it what I want...

If you are planning on flashing custom roms you will need the bootloader unlocked. Going from 2.2 to 2.3 you don't need an unlocked bootloader. You should be able to either use the OTA option, the sd card option, or the update program from moto via the pc.

Xperia x10 mini how to root and install a custom rom?

Is there a tutorial for it? What you neet to do step by step. And can you use this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682966 for the x10 mini to?
read several tutorials – if you’ve never done it before don’t rush into it
Misreading one line of instructions can mess the whole process up and leave you with a dysfunctional phone. Its not as daunting as it seems.. but you do need to know exactly what to do before you do it.... and while your doing it. Also check compatability with model numbers and software versions
for example my phone is an x10 mini pro but if I take the battery out its actually a u20i
Super one click rooted my phone without problems but i found i had to disable usb debugging and re enable it while it was doing its thing
youtube is also a good source for tutorials
I recommend this kernel and rom from NaA
if you have baseband update, the rest y very easy
the requirements are
bootloader unlocking
updated baseband
1.-search the web, update baseband to the exact model, e10i does not equal the E10A
if you install a firmware for another device, you may lose the 3G signal
2.- this post for unlocking Bootloader

4.-install the rom

HI,
I rooted my sony experia mini e10i successfully using z4root app. now i have to unlock bootloader. what tool should be downloaded , i searched in google., many tools and many views for doing this. i am really confused. Please suggest any good and reliable tool to unlock the bootloader and please also suggest the steps for doing so. should i flash kernel and then rom or both at same time? in some tutorials they said,
1.use CWM ROM manager and flash recovery
2. poweroff and then power on , press back key
3. in recovery mode, wipe all cache,
4. install rom from sd card
Are these steps work fine for me? This is the first time i am trying these flashing custom rom. so am little bit nervous.
Please help....
Hello there.
As many of us, it's also my very first time that i'm attempting to upgrade my x10 mini's android version from 2.1 to 2.3.7 and i'm pretty worry of making it useless (bricking it? )
After spending hours and hours of reading several guides.. i was able to root my xperia, installed and log into CWM (v3.2.0.0-3) successfully. But now i have 15 different guides with 50 different steps to follow.. And now i am pretty stuck upon few basic (yes noobish) questions:
"Unlocking bootloader" means that, after installing CWM or xRecovery, we have to use the flashtool method or are we done with the unlocking part?
After getting done with unlocking bootloader, do we firstly install the new kernel and secondly the new Rom or the opposite?
Is there a way to recognize which Rom requires xRecovery or CWM before its installation?
Thank you in advance!

If you want a ROM that runs on a custom kernel you do need to unlock the bootloader, that's the only tricky part about the whole process
Which order you install kernel and rom doesn't make a difference, as long as the two are meant for each other. That said, it is common practice to install the kernel first and then the ROM.
xRecovery is (usually) only used in old ROMS that run on stock kernel, the 2.3.7 ROM you're aiming for will probably use CWM (Which is included in all custom kernels anyway). Which of the two is required is stated in the opening post of the ROM you choose.
Good luck
SmG67 you're a life saver! God bless you mate. Thank you so much for your fast, clear and accurate reply. The things i was worrying about make sense now. :good:
thnx

Hi people,
This is Burak, from İstanbul/Turkey and sorry about my first post here But I need very urgent response about my issue...
I have a question about mu xperia... I got a Xperia X10i with Locked Bootloader (Cannot be unlocked).... So, the 1st question is;
İs there any way to unlock the bootloader?
and the second is;
is there any rom based on Android 4.0 or higher?
There is a lots of issues that I had with FeraVolt ICS, most of the Google Play applications does not work (Foursquare and Vine Camera Option) and I use those programs very very very frequently... Is there any Custom Android 4.0 or higher version for my phone?
Thanks for now..

I have a question about mu xperia... I got a Xperia X10i with Locked Bootloader (Cannot be unlocked).... So, the 1st question is;
İs there any way to unlock the bootloader?
ive been having issues with the thing too.... tried like 4 different flashtools. the issue i keep getting is that it says bootloader cannot be permanently unlocked. on 2.3. so i tried going back to 2.1 and using the xrecovery instead of CWM recovery. with 2.1 and xrecovery installed and working i tried again and suprise... it told me my bootloader was unlocked but couldnt be permanently unlocked. so then i got confused and gave up.
that being said im also using feralab v30 final. 2.3.9 and havent had any issues yet. its MUCH MUCH faster then stock 2.3. did not need a bootloader unlock. has a lot of extra tweeks. comes with superuser and whatnot so its prerooted. a cleaning tool. overclock tool. the only trick i learned is that on the website it has a ftf or zip from the kernel. it will tell u for a locked bootloader to use the zip from recovery... but from xrecovery you cant install a kernal and cwm recovery. so use the ftf and flashtool anyways. put the rom on the sd card. flash the ftf of the kernel with flashtools. on reboot keep pressing back button and cwm will open. wipe cache and install the rom. it does it all for you pretty much. there is a 4.0 rom yes and ive tried it. i get a loading loop because of the bootloader being locked. 2.3.9 is the highest ive been able to get so far with any decent stability and speed. but its better then 2.1 or the laggy 2.3 stock rom. also works with most newer apps anyway. 2.1 doesnt even have netflix or text plus. so unless anyone can chime in and help with the bootloader i suggest the newest feralabs rom. i used the general every day one instead of the gaming one. just fyi.
