When you open your gallery or music library it will search for any new content, it is the same as having a lower capacity card

Also, make sure you'll buy a non fake card and format to FAT32 before using. I'm using A-data 32 gb memory card, and I have 31.6 gb. Everything work great and reading, writing speed is good. Good luck.

okay okay thank you all, ive finished understand that it only search for new content

Memory Expansion - Micro SD

Hi, just got my new Hero and wanted to purchase the cheapest and best micro SD card for it..
I read somewhere that the 'Class 6' cards were the way to go..!!
Can someone advise me if this one will work in my Hero before I click buy.!!
http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=777_6&products_id=104986
If not any suggestions..???
Thanks
Wish I'd seen this sooner! I got ripped off on eBay for an inferior product.
Go for it!
Do you have one of the 'Transcend' then?? I've not seen them before..!! I had assumed it was the same but thought i'd check.!!!
Thanks for your help.. What do you think of the Hero BTW??
The 2GB card that my Hero came with is made by Transcend. And with the Album app its way faster than the SanDisk 8GB Class 4 card I was going to use until I realised it was so slow in comparison.
Some SD card tests in the Hero would be great if someone has a few to try out

No - the eBay seller sent me un unbranded un classified (Class 2?) card when their ad clearly stated class 6.
As for the Hero - it's awesome!
Edit: I used a utility to test the speed of the card I was sent and it performs at around 8MB per sec - above the class 6 spec. I tested the card that came with the Hero and it came out at just over 1MB per sec - below even class 2. Guess which card I'm using now?
Cheers
Just ordered one of these because of this thread

It's a PC App. You get it here.
Grrr, literally just bought a lexar class 4 from my memory for slightly more money, wish I had checked this.
Do all apps have to be reinstalled when insert a new card or can I just simply copy the contents of old memory card to new one?

With SD Cards in the Hero using A2SD, what is more important - the read speed or the write speed?

depends what you're doing, doesn't it? if you're gonna be writing lots of data to the card, then obviously the write speed (i'm thinking, for example, if you're taking lots of pictures with the camera, installing lots of applications maybe, etc etc). if you're just interested in reading from the card - e.g. listening to your music collection - then you'd want that to be pretty fast. my guess is that the bottleneck, in general, is going to be the write speed on any card - but i don't know much about these cards, still learning ;-)
Excellent find thanks

The speed in album app is more related to if your thumbnails are created correctly on your sdcard. There is an increasing number of persons that realizing that they have this problem.

The Atrix has 16gb of internal storage (around 10gb avalaible). You don't need to buy an external sd.

but what about videos?when you record?all are in storage???so all my music will be there?(well i guess yes since i doubt you cant recrod with the camera w/o scard)

I've been using the built-in storage for videos and pictures taken with the camera.
I used my external SD for music and other videos before it died on me.
But if you have your own SD card with music in it, the Atrix should be able to recognize them. It did for me, using the built-in music player.

Can the Sony Tablet S Accept 64gb SD Cards?

Just wondering as id like to cram as much as possible on my Tablet!

No, I don't think the Sony Tablet will accept SDXC cards.
I believe the SDHC cards only go up to 32GB.

hmm, im hoping a case is designed that will fit 3-4 32gb sd cards in so i can take my movie collection with me then.
There is a sony memory stick adapter not sdcard one which takes 2 microsds and makes them appear as one big one but i believe it is limited to 32gb. Does not help us but shows many things are possible. I noticed file expert app lists sdcard2 which is empty for me presumably because i don't have a physical one in yet, however it also lists usbdisk1 to usbdisk8 so maybe there will be some way of having sdcard3 etc or utilize usbdisks with sd adaptors. Hope it helps

Wait,so you can store stuff on the SD card without transferring them? I thought it was just for file transfer? :S I read it on the official Sony site.
Can anyone confirm?
You can store and play media off the SD-Card using the File Transfer app, it will only play one item at a time. The problem is that the native music/video apps will NOT scan the SD-Card slot for media, I believe this maybe just an error in coding, but I'm not knowledgeable enough in this area to more than speculate. I downloaded a 3rd party Music App and it showed that the tablet had 2 SD-Cards, the first was my actual storage (16gb), and the 2nd was the actual SD-Card (8gb). This is where maybe the coding is wrong and only looks at the first SD-Card, even though its technically not.

Yikes! It's possible to be fixed in an update down the line right? I'm considering this or the Transformer and I really like the Tablet S. Matches my Xperia Play.
No. It is not a coding error. It is google / Sony's intention to limit the use of SD card. Just like Apple, you understand.

It is possible to use SDXC cards as long as it is formatted by the tablet to FAT32(or on a computer). I am using a 128GB SDXC card without problem. I use Poweramp in order to view my music collection(45GB) and VitalPlayer Pro to play videos from the SD-card.

No its no joke, the problem is that the standard Gallery does not access the SD-card but I solved it by using QuickPic. QuickPic is a superb app that lets you specify which folders you want to view. I will try to make a Youtube to show what it looks like, probably on friday since I work long night shift now.
When it comes to Xperia Play I dont know but I guess it has microSD card slot? I know that some phones takes XC cards, among them is HTC Sensation.

You have to wait until it's rooted. Then change the USB host to use the ext drive

you can use an external HD as long as it is formatted FAT32 and it is up to 500gb, that's at least confirmed by Sony.

64G micro SD card for Galaxy Player?

Looks like there is a 64G micro SD by Sandisk. Will be good for my collections of lossless music.
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Mobile-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B005V7WIA2
Many claim that it works even on old Android devices. Just wonder if any Galaxy Player owners tried this yet?
Update:
Finally got one. Similar to the experience of other users, the player will think that the SD card is corrupted when mounted for the first time. Once you format it as instructed, it will work fine.
I have attached a couple of screenshots below for those who are interested. Two of the screenshots are benchmark of 64G Sandisk (Class 6) vs 32G Lexar (Class 10).

I think I read somewhere that the SDXC I cards are somewhat compatible with older devices but not fully. That "I" degignation is new and not supported by older SDHC devices. In older devices, the "I" cards would work at a slower speeds, I believe. In this case, Class 6... I think I have seen SDXC I cards being advertised as 50Mb/sec read speeds... at class 6, that would drop do avg. 6Mb/sec... so you loose the speed the "I" standard brings but the larger capacity always sounds good. In saying so, I have not tried these. I am however, very tempted...

I'd imagine it will work just fine. You just won't be able to take advantage of the "advanced speed" aspect.
If your interested in it, just purchase it with Paypal and return it if it doesn't work. I'd give it a try, but I'm fine with my 32GB + 16GB cards at this time.
If you do end up ordering it, please let us know what your results are...

Write times
Overall stability
And most important... if it works and can read the card!

That's a good news. I will probably take the plunge and report back. As for speed, class 6 should be sufficient for music storage. I used to use class 4 for that purpose, it was a bit pain to load the music onto it for the first time but playing music from it is not an issue.
Like Galaxy Player only supports 32Gb, sorry for my English
Works fine on my 5.0, formatted to FAT32, speeds around class 6 using r14 kernel on international
I am using one on the 5.0 U.S version.

Hi Ryzir.
I'd be interested if you could explain exactly what you did to make a 64GB microSD card work on a stock 4.0...?
I've tried formatting a 64GB Sandisk microSD card to FAT32 and my 4.0 doesn't recognise the card at all...
When I first inserted the card into the 4.0 it came up with some error (corruption?) and I selected format. Been working perfectly ever since.
I should note that I'm in the US. I believe there are slight differences between US and INT version.
Frustrating

I'm using what I think is the US version or at least with US language...still no joy. The card isn't recognised at all.
Unless you can offer more information looks like I'll have to continue without...or perhaps see if I can buy a UK based one....
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is to try and format with SD Formatter (Google it I can't post link yet)
FWIW I'm using SanDisk - Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC Class 6 Memory Card (Model: SDSDQY-064G-A11A)

Did you get the sandisk one mentioned above? And have you considered the possibility of a "bad out of box" situation? they can happen especially with electronics this small, I had a Kingston DDR laptop memory (best in the business IMHO) that was "bad out of box" so it is possible.

I did use a Sandisk card and I've managed to use it in another device (an Android tablet) without a problem.
I'm really very confused..I can only assume that I'd need to root my device perhaps...or...well I don't know. It's really very annoying and frustrating.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I doubt rooting would make a difference, but at the same time there's no reason not to. (i had mine rooted within 6 hours of getting it out of the mailbox, and I had NEVER touched android before that moment) Maybe try rooting and flashing a popular custom ROM, Like Klins R5 and the Terrasilent kernel, at the very least doing the terrasillent (or any kernel available) along with rooting will give you the ability to use voodoo sound, and that alone is worth doing it for.
thats just weird, it reading in the other android means it should be good to go in the player.

Depends really on what you're gonna do.
I flash roms quite often and like having several roms to choose from incl. Gapps.
Then again. Even for that I never surpass my 16GB + 32GB micro SD set-up.
64GB+64GB is rather costly for a bonus you probably won't end up using.

sorry my mistake :i thought the player can read from only one partition or folder a time ,and not aggregate folder or partition from internal and external S.D. to create unique main folder ;as a sum of separate folder :for example like foobar.
foobar read folder/partition by folder/partition and if you want can see only one folder and all the music you have ,also if in separate folder/partition for example.

To some audio crazies like me, 128 gigs is easy to fill. I've got about 150 filled on my laptop. Lossless audio takes space. I can only imagine the 128 would seem even smaller to a video geek.
