s3 64gb +6gb - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Samsung S3 has as option of 64gb internal: if i add a 64 gb sd ,my i have a total storage of 128gb for :video app, music etc...etc..this is for my ripped C.D. collection , i should want in my phone :is it possible ?
tks gio

that's just over kill I found even with 16GB it was more than enough even tho I have a 32GBP card now
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

as far as i know the 64GB never made it to the stores due to low demand so you will be good with 32Gb+64GB Sd card

Depends really on what you're gonna do.
I flash roms quite often and like having several roms to choose from incl. Gapps.
Then again. Even for that I never surpass my 16GB + 32GB micro SD set-up.
64GB+64GB is rather costly for a bonus you probably won't end up using.

and please no more questions in this section

so i can't have my C.D. collection managed by one player ??? or :a player let me have 2 or 3 directors to import data ,and so we have a little help ,but not the best solutions...
neither with a cooked rom ???

I come from P.C. world and for me ,is incomprehensible this way to operate memory...

I also come from PC and I have 3 hard drives and no problems with media. Same thing here. No, there will be no issues, you will use one player and one common library for both storages.

In the music player all music will appear in one list, even if a part of the music is on the internal SD and the other part on the external SD, since the media scanner looks all music in the phone to generate the list in the player.

sorry my mistake :i thought the player can read from only one partition or folder a time ,and not aggregate folder or partition from internal and external S.D. to create unique main folder ;as a sum of separate folder :for example like foobar.
foobar read folder/partition by folder/partition and if you want can see only one folder and all the music you have ,also if in separate folder/partition for example.
but any way no possible one partition neither with rom ,ok?
tks a lot gio.

Why want one partition? Its all about switching folders ..

tks gio.

To some audio crazies like me, 128 gigs is easy to fill. I've got about 150 filled on my laptop. Lossless audio takes space. I can only imagine the 128 would seem even smaller to a video geek.

The Atrix has 16gb of internal storage (around 10gb avalaible). You don't need to buy an external sd.

oh
but what about videos?when you record?all are in storage???so all my music will be there?(well i guess yes since i doubt you cant recrod with the camera w/o scard)
thanks
I've been using the built-in storage for videos and pictures taken with the camera.
I used my external SD for music and other videos before it died on me.
But if you have your own SD card with music in it, the Atrix should be able to recognize them. It did for me, using the built-in music player.

Can the Sony Tablet S Accept 64gb SD Cards?

Just wondering as id like to cram as much as possible on my Tablet!
Thanks
No, I don't think the Sony Tablet will accept SDXC cards.
I believe the SDHC cards only go up to 32GB.

hmm, im hoping a case is designed that will fit 3-4 32gb sd cards in so i can take my movie collection with me then.
There is a sony memory stick adapter not sdcard one which takes 2 microsds and makes them appear as one big one but i believe it is limited to 32gb. Does not help us but shows many things are possible. I noticed file expert app lists sdcard2 which is empty for me presumably because i don't have a physical one in yet, however it also lists usbdisk1 to usbdisk8 so maybe there will be some way of having sdcard3 etc or utilize usbdisks with sd adaptors. Hope it helps

Wait,so you can store stuff on the SD card without transferring them? I thought it was just for file transfer? :S I read it on the official Sony site.
Can anyone confirm?
You can store and play media off the SD-Card using the File Transfer app, it will only play one item at a time. The problem is that the native music/video apps will NOT scan the SD-Card slot for media, I believe this maybe just an error in coding, but I'm not knowledgeable enough in this area to more than speculate. I downloaded a 3rd party Music App and it showed that the tablet had 2 SD-Cards, the first was my actual storage (16gb), and the 2nd was the actual SD-Card (8gb). This is where maybe the coding is wrong and only looks at the first SD-Card, even though its technically not.

Yikes! It's possible to be fixed in an update down the line right? I'm considering this or the Transformer and I really like the Tablet S. Matches my Xperia Play.
No. It is not a coding error. It is google / Sony's intention to limit the use of SD card. Just like Apple, you understand.

It is possible to use SDXC cards as long as it is formatted by the tablet to FAT32(or on a computer). I am using a 128GB SDXC card without problem. I use Poweramp in order to view my music collection(45GB) and VitalPlayer Pro to play videos from the SD-card.

No its no joke, the problem is that the standard Gallery does not access the SD-card but I solved it by using QuickPic. QuickPic is a superb app that lets you specify which folders you want to view. I will try to make a Youtube to show what it looks like, probably on friday since I work long night shift now.
When it comes to Xperia Play I dont know but I guess it has microSD card slot? I know that some phones takes XC cards, among them is HTC Sensation.

You have to wait until it's rooted. Then change the USB host to use the ext drive

you can use an external HD as long as it is formatted FAT32 and it is up to 500gb, that's at least confirmed by Sony.

[Q] 16GB vs 32GB

What are the practical performance differences between the two configurations. I know more RAM is always better, but is it worth $100?

It isnt ram, its storage. All you 'gain' is more room to store apps, music, movies etc. The tablet as almost all honeycomb tablets come with 1 gig of ram. If you see yourself packing the tablets with movies/photos etc then yes the 32 gig one is worth it.
At $100 for a 16gb increase it is far less expensive to just add a $20 16gb microSD card to expand to 32gb from a 16gb model.

Probably is til Sony patches it (and i hope they do) the sd slot is basically just a file transfer/media storage rather then true storage.
And keep in mind that the 16GB version only offer 8.9GB of storage !

Well you can use File manager HD to look for and open files, or say if you have movies use MX Video Player. On both apps the sd card shows as sdcard2
Pretty much every single 3rd party none sony/asus/google/htc apps can play/view file directly from the SD card.
Only thing you need to know is that your SD card is located at:
/mnt/SDCard2/

hi - could someone please explain the storage setup?
I swapped my 16GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a 16GB Sony and as mentioned previously, it only shows 8.92GB internal storage (USB) plus 3.94GB internal storage so that's approx 3GB for the OS and sample files!
I assume this is just the way Sony split up the 16GB?
On the Samsung it showed approx 15GB from new
Just trying to clarify....
thanks

[Q] Can I use swapper memory trick with YP-G70?

The small memory size is getting rather annoying, and since SSD's are fast enough to perform like (very) slow memory, I'd like to set up a swap partition on my YP-G70 to function as some virtual memory.
I've found this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659231 and I wondered if it will work with the YP-G70 since I know our system uses some weird drive partitioning scheme.
Also, how badly will this shorten the devices lifespan. (Well, technically lifespan of the internal drive, but since that's non-replacable ...)

Yeah, wasn't really paying attention to that part. I'm used to GB style thinkign where everything for the system has to be on the internal card.
But yeah, I'd definitely put it on an external card, if it will work.

Apparently, it's possible, but I haven't seen anything swapping "tricks" for the Galaxy Player (or many other devices, for that matter). You can, however, use Directory Bind, this script, or Root External 2 Internal SD.
