Phone won't wake up - ICS LPQ - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have the LPQ installed on my phone and sometimes I can not wake up my phone nor turn the phone off.
The only way out of this is to take out the battery.
If I ring the phone, it will ring endlessly even though if the other line has hung up.
Is this a known bug or shall I try to do a full wipe?

Full Wipe
Question = Q&A

That's the phone not coming out of deep sleep or similar. I had same on stock lpq. Try a full wipe, although I think your best bet Is to try one of the other ics firmwares or a different kernel. I use Cm9 last version works for me with no bugs, plus good reception and battery life

I would love tp use CM9 but as far as I know it doesn't support the strict rules of ActiveSync mail servers which I need.
I will try a full wipe... or maybe a newer ICS Firmware.

I think the above is an excellent idea. Lets keep all questions about a development separate from the thread which .. well .. discusses it.
So, here is the question:
With the LeoMAR ROM, I received an OTA update. Since installing this update, I noticed that the phone switches off randomly, and has been draining battery at an incredible rate. The base ROM that I installed (1.4) a week ago did not have this issue.
Could someone please comment on whether this is a new issue on the OTA update, or if this is an issue that the OTA installation created? To be clear, this was not existing on the manually-installed ROM, but only with the OTA update provided by the ROM management program.
Subnote: no, I don't need help installing the rom or using it; just trying to figure out when the issue crept in, and whether I am the only user experiencing it.
hi i guess you have updated from 2.4 -- 2.5
leomar includes a script which wipes your phone on install , however i think the latest update doesnt wipe the battery stats .
what mods have you included in your build from the kitchen?
do you use bln at all? this can drin battery quicker
i am running 2.5 and it does seem to drain battery a bit quicker then 2.4 but not the sort of drain you are talking about .
leomar2.5 will be in the revoloution folder on your mas memory if you done a ota update , if you think the ota update has caused issues use cwm to install it manualy and then set it up again etc
hope you get it sorted but as i say i am not getting huge battery drain on this rom , i have disabled all bln settings though and even installed a kernel that doesnt support it as i found it drains battery .
I'm gonna say your using the angelom v21/2 kernel...check under about phone...this was known to cause the phone to heat up and reboot...with the revolution app, change the kernel to either ninphetamine or speedmod and see how you go

This seems to be the problem (went to speedmod, it's one I had used prior to reflashing my phone a few weeks back). I am intrigued though by the promise that ninphetamine offers, but just worried about some of the things I've read. Are there any issues at all with the ninphetamine mode (I use the stock email with exchange, if that is affected in any way).
Having this problem yesterday, My phone has a huge decline in battery consumption grapth after installing some mods on revolution apps through OTA. For example before updating my battery has over 30% then after completely updating it shows about 13%. Then it increase gradually. I don't know why my phone faces with such a problem.

Yeah no dramas here. I'm running Revolution 2.5 with Ninphetamine 2.0.5 and have no dramas with exchange on the stock e-mail app.

Thanks all for the rapid responses. I decided to give Ninphetamine a go since I will be onsite all day, no biggy if I miss some mail as my workstation can get it.
Wow. Just... wow. I know you can't trust "just one day".. but so far am running 12.5hrs and only used 31%. That's about a 50-60% improvement over the previous kernel and I haven't even done any cycles yet.. Will give it a few days, but so far no sudden switchoffs, no weird crashes, and everythings running very smoothly.
If this is the 'real deal'.. omg!

[Q] most promising ROM and KERNEL combo?

Hey guys,
I have a question, I have my SGS II, and I tested out alot of roms and kerenels but I just cant get to a promising results regarding battery life.
My question is:
What is the most promision ROM and KERNEL combo for BEST battery life?
Really? Really? Seriously?
I think you should use stock Rom
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Yea... Stock if you want battery
Unfortantuly my stock rom sucks, laggy and ****ty.
And cmon guys stop tagging this post as span n other **** I am new to this all new android stuff and I see people with effin 3 days of battery life while in 100% mine only lasts for 8 hours.
Be more serious.
So, did you read up on how they were getting it? (3 effin days battery)
Have you then tried the same thing?
Checkrom revoHD.
Well for me checkrom revo HD with leoMar kitchen app is simply the best. This combined with Dark Knights Siyah kernal is the best combinition for me. I get a full day of battery charge with heavy usage.

They diden't mention to write.
Only pics.
This will depend on so many variables, network, location, Modem, ROM, Kernel, user installs of software, wake locks, bad signal.......
Hence the only way to find is via flashing bedding testing....
As you will notice users can have same setup but very different outcomes..
Using CWM backup you can always revert to stable setup.

[Q] Which Modem/RIL/ROM combination is most stable for travelling?

I will be traveling soon. I have the JellyBean leak by izap on my phone right now... The battery life is somewhat ok, but I have network issues with it sometimes. People can't get to me even when my phone shows full signal strength. Therefore, I would like to know if there is a Modem/Ril/Rom combination that features stability and is most suitable for making and receiving calls internationally. It would also be good if the combination isn't a battery sucker while searching for network while not in range.(Because this seems to be an issue with many people :-/ )
While traveling these are my top requirements from the GS2:
Stability- no SoD or incompatibility with networks abroad.
Battery life- no battery drain while it isn't being used
GPS- quick locks in remote areas (I already seem to have a solution for this; but haven't tested it yet)
Camera- no pink spot or noise (Could you also recommend a good camera firmware for Fujitsu M5MOLS that fixes FPS issues and pink spot? -I've tried solution in every Camera issue thread I could find on the forum, but I still get pink spot)
Thanks! I'm looking forward to your replies! :fingers-crossed:
Just in case this question isn't in compliance with the forum rules, then I'll be sorry and the Mods can move it/delete it.
If it were me Id just go back to Samsungs proper stock rom/modem.Then when I come back,Id change it back to what I liked.

Thanks for the answer... But I wanted to know of a combination of any rom(stock, custom, etc) and Modem/RIL that provides good compatibilty with overseas networks and isn't infamous for draining the battery... And stable

To be honest your expectations are too high.Your wanting what everyone on here wants, and it doesnt exist. This is why were all tinkering with roms.
In some of requirements, while one thing improves, another will diminish i.e battery life.
I currently use rooted GB stock, stripped down with all the crap removed.I used to use nelp3 modem(gave best signal),but according to callers, speech was choppy.
I'm on NeatRom Lite 4.0 (JB leak), and see in better battery stats that "No or unknown signal" is 99.3%, and I have been in areas with good reception all day, so something is not right with the LS6 modem here in Norway. And I'm not sure if there is any other modem/ril for JB leak?
As for stability and battery time, CM9 stable worked great for me, so maybe have a look at that? With litle use, batterydrain where less than 10% pr 24hour on stock battery...

You can use other modems for Leaked jb but not other rils.
Leave ther ril alone and change the modem. Read through the thread for information how to change modems.
Will it not make phone reception worse if ril is not matched to modem?

No, Modem will reception will be improved somewhat but not 100 % because the mismatch.
Before the ril modem relationship was discovered people use to change modems with out any problems whatsoever.

Maybe someone can suggest a good stripped down rom for battery life,in case you arent near a charger.

I see in here that I should be using a XW modem, and not the XX in the leaked jb rom, so I better try another modem and see how it works out.
@jj_95nano You should probably have a look at the modems for the region you are travelling (2 first letters), but as that thread has not been updated since summer, I don't know if theire recommended modems are still valid...
You could also maybe check the signal strength of your provider on where your going.
I went on holiday recently where the tmobile reception was crap, and vodafone was a lot better.
*gets into a dilemma*
Just flashed the latest stock ICS 4.0.4 for my region... There are many bugs and FCs... I wanna flash GB, but the GB for my region is infamous for its battery drain. I guess I'll keep CWM Backups of different ROMs and try them out when I'm on the go. :-/
Depends where your going ^^
If I was taking my S2 over seas, I'd get a sim card for that region (could prob get one prior to travel), leave a redirect to no. on my voicemail. Then I would get a cwm flashable modem for the region & install it on the plane to destination. Rom wise, MIUI gb/ics - would be your best bet... everything works out of the box. Stay away from JB, unless you have a laptop handy, then it wouldn't really matter

Okay.. So I'm downloading MIUI and I have some modems of the places I'm gonna go to. The only problem is everytime I flash a modem there will be a Modem+RIL mismatch... But actually to solve that I can flash only one modem for the country I'll be in the longest. Let's see how it goes!

If you're on a plan - roaming may be better option...
talk to your provider about pros & cons :cyclops:
on prepay I'd go my prior suggestion - use local network & save some $$

Yep I'm on a plan with international roaming... I finally got MIUI ICS and NeatROM Lite dual booted. The modems on the ROMs are matching with RIL and don't seem to be draining battery, so I think I'll stick to these.

Wierd Behavior

Hi guys, first sorry for my bad english.
All began few days ago, charging speed become very very wierd like 0 to 100 % takes 10/12 hours...I do admit its not first time had this but iv repaired that with changing kernels but not this time.Thats the first issue.
Other issue is the battery life decreased rapidly. From 61% to 0 battery widget said it need arround 1:50h to deplete while IDLE.I mean i wouldnt ask for any guidence here if i wasnt able to figure it out by myself.
For all saying dw battery stats i did,and nothink major that other than Clock widget made some huge wake locks and kept device quite hot so i disable it.
First time all this occured was while i was using Buzz Launcher and tougth the drainage may come from it so i switched to Nova launcher.Im using Ultima rom currently with Siyah kernel, and i did try all kerneles with all possible settings and nothink either repaired the battery to go further than 5/6 hour lifetime or charing speed.
So tommorow or today idk ima go to visit the shop that bougth phone from and demand to change my charger from wich i know my first issue is from but i really am afraid if the battery isnt screwed also so to ask for change also.
Also iv done wipes/caches wipes everythink,Ussually helped before but not now.
MY question is can that baattery performance now sucks cause the terrible charging speed that is on now????I want be sure or see if someone had this problem.
Thanks
Given the number of kernels you've flashed I'd suggest going back to completely stock rom and kernel to test.
The original chargers are prone to failure and your battery is only guaranteed for six months, as this is a consumable item for regular replacement.
Also, questions go in the q&a section to reduce clutter in here.

[Q] Battery problem on Omega v47 rom

Hello to all,
after having a stock i9300 for 11 months (I never kept stock for such a long period of time) I decide to install a custom rom.
After reading a lot I noticed that the most popular rom for the S3 i9300 is the omega so I followed that route.
I intalled the latest 4.1.2 version yesterday and today I was surprised to noticed that the battery lasted less than 14 hours.
I did a clean installation wiping cache/delvik etc.
This performance is horrible compared to stock.
I could easily make a whole day regardless of usage.
1. Are all roms as bad?
2. Will a possible change of the kernel provide a solution is so which one?
Other than that the rom looks great with some added features from the 4.2.2 which look great and fresh.
But I can not accept the phone not easily go through a day.
I also noticed some issues with Skype (not the latest version as this did not work well even on stock).
thank you
p.s. I could not post to the omega rom due to the fact I am new here......

You are being judgmental.
I spend several days reading the forum and educating myself.
I did read in the omega topic that some people experience battery problems.
Some of them reported that a different kernel provides better battery life.
I did not notice though that after flashing a rom you need several cycles for the battery to be calibrated.
Furthermore, in most roms I read about there are several people (not all) complaining about battery life.
This is why I asked if all custom roms increase performance while decreasing the battery life.

I Agree, its totally out of order to treat a noob in that way, but unfortunately some members think they actually own the site and therefore have a god given right to speak to new members like **** because they have more thanks on their profile, This complex they suffer from is extremely infectious and has a specific name, its called delusions of grandeur ! There is no known treatment or cure !
After several days I noticed that the battery life is a bit better but nowhere near to the previous performance.
How long does it take to re calibrate itself?

I also used Omega once but the battery life was just like yours.
Try doing the following:
1. Download greenify, understand how it works and greenify your apps.
2. Install startup manager, disable useless apps.
3. Disable wifi settings such as "notify me for new networks". Also, while in sleep mode, make sure the option is set to never.
4. Put auto brightness on.
5. Disable sync.
You can go ahead and install a different kernel. Googy or Devil or siyah would be a great choise.
All of these should improve your battery life.
Thank you for your reply.
Out of curiosity why does this rom consumes more power since it does not over clock the cpu?

They are many factors that affecting your battery life.Everyone have different angle viewing things. So depend on them what a good battery life mean to them. You can try other rom though. I'm using foxhound 2.5 with googy max kernel. It bring a good perfomance for me. And you can try to buy a 3200mah battery for your S3 with original size xD It can last more longer. And try the comment above it should improve the battery alot.
well I always try not to leave wifi on when not in use and do not run programs that use battery resources. I do never use mobile data and gps is always off. I did install greenify but there was really nothing running on the background.
Still I am under the impression that the stock rom provides signifficantly better battery life.
So my question is why? (Only out of curiosity).
