Ive got two SGS2 phones one running Omega v8 and the stock kernel and the other running Omega v9 and Siyah Kernel.
My main phone is the stock kernel/ICS v8 and my test phone is the other. While I await the release of the SGS3 ( and if vodaphone stick to their word my free upgrade ) Im messing around to see which is the best balance etc...I will when i get my new phone give the wife one and keep/sell/give the other to my eldest daughter.
What im asking for would be a little advice on peoples choosen method to overclock and underclock their phones. What seems to be the general consencous on the best software SetCPU, Tegra etc with the siyah kernel.....or is there something a little better....Or can i just tweak siyah and get a performance increase.
thanks in advance
U can try cpu control, voltage control and there is extweaks software(only works with siyah kernel) in play store which gives u many customization but be careful. I think lulzactive governer gives u better performance and battery life.
With siyah kernel u can boot in recovery and under kernel specific options select performance profile.
Thank me if I helped U.

Hello all!
I'm a newbie who wants to know some more about ROMs and Kernels.
Here's the thing:
I have the awesome galaxy s2 and I definately want to flash Lite'ning ROM 1.5.
I also read about an easy overclock kernel here (using SetCPU app):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075061
1. Now, what I do not yet understand is: if I flash the necessary OC kernel, will this interfere with the Lite'ning ROM (which has the KF2 kernel)?
2. If so, is there another way to do an easy overclock on the Lite'ning ROM?
I'm looking for CPU speeds of about 1.4 to 1.5 Ghz, just to get that little bit of extra performance.
I also looked at the Tegrak OC, but I don't think I know enough to mess with the voltages... Or how to even do that
3. So, how do ROMs and Kernels work (in short)? Can I flash any Kernel on any ROM?
4. And can you install multiple Kernels working next to eachother? Or will some Kernels interfere with eachother?
I searched the forums for good explanations, but thusfar haven't found any.
Sorry for being a noob! I'm really trying to read up, but it's more difficult than I had expected.
Some Noob-Proof explanation would be much appreciated!
Numbered the questions I have at the moment
Thank you!
I cant answer all your questions but i'll do my best
2) have a look at tekrak overclock and this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14973796&postcount=531 the first part is about undervolting which is great and the last section is about what voltage to overclock your galaxy s2 at
Basically, the voltage is how much energy your battery puts through the system, including gpu and cpu, so if you overclock you need more energy and dont worry about crashing, it just reboots and asks you if you want the previous settings and you say no (write down your previous settings though) and then lower the voltage and try again and so on
3) roms are basically modified versions of android and kernels can be flashed on most roms, im not sure about the official ones
Thats all i know about so i hope it helped you
PM me if you want some help with undervolting or overclocking, i dont tend to overclock as i dont see the point, my phones already so fast
Thank you!
That Naphtaline guide about voltages seems really helpful
I do need the Tegrak Ultimate app to set all the voltages right?
The free one doesn't seem to include that.
I'll have a look into it anyway.
And I recall that I do not need to flash another kernel if I use this Tegrak OC right?
Almost sure I read that somewhere in the Lite'ning ROM thread.
Appreciate the help!
I think the free one includes voltages just no settings for the gpu, but i could be wrong
Not sure about the Tegrak kernel, but no harm in it
No problem, just pm me if anything goes wrong or you have some questions
yeah that Naphtaline guide is just classy keep up the gud work guyz
Hi al iam a newb here white a question now iam one a rarirty rom white the siya 2. 1 kernel what is the different white the darknight kernel and the 2. 1
sent from my S2
that hurt my head reading that
+++++++1+++++++
time to go back to school.
What is the difference read the siyah kernel thread and darknight kernel thread .
jje
there is a note on DK siyah kernel :
So Me and Gokahamoral (Siyah Kernel Dev) Decided to build a entirely new platform for Battery Saving's
This is a Kernel with Crazy Feature! And with Out of the ordinary performance.
This is not the regular Siyah Kernel but different and trust me really different, its build for more stability and more battery life instead of a all round performer like siyah.
Choice of kernel is your personal preference.
Hey guys,
So I've installed Checkrom v6 and it is AMAZING! I've installed a few mods and widgets from the Kitchen which are also awesome.
Just wondering what the point of the different Modems and Kernels in the Kitchen is? What's the advantage of changing your kernel or modem?
Also, my Gallery takes 10-15 seconds to load sometimes. Is this normal? My images are on a class 10 High Speed MicroSD card (Sandisk)...
Cheers!!!
People change the modem, as with some having slightly better performance, while some have a little worse. Depending on the network, the location, etc.
Same way for kernel, because they want better performance.
You have a topic for this rom and everything that interests you, you can ask there.
Thanks mate, so which kernel is best for what then? And which kernel does Checkrom v6 come with as standard? In Settings>About phone, mine says under Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-I9100XWLA4-CL900411

It comes with CF root kernel. For best battery Install Redpill(If you install speedmod youll lose root) and for performance Install siyah
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
If you are in CheckROM V6... Ill recommend you to try this kernel N.E.A.K 1.4x or download it in the Kitchen Pro App.. But one thing! after you installed the ROM you need to remove the kitchen that comes with, download the kitchen in the market and install that one!
The Kernels are the brain of your smartphone hardware, it controls everything.. Processes, memory, etc.. so its very important to have a good kernel if you want to take the best of your galaxy... but every kernel does not always work the same in every cellphone. That's why you need to try and see how it works for you. I can suggest you two kernels that are the most popular, The Siyah and NEAK.. they are the best for me, i've tested every kernel out and they are the most i like, but the latest version of Siyah (2.6.13) doesnt work good and drain a lot of battery, the new version of NEAK (1.4x) owns in everything so far!
The modem depends on your carrier, rom and kernel. Some versions can be painful for your setup and some can be the best with strong signal, speed and stability. You need to try too, the best for me are the XXKI4 and the XXKL1, both of them are battery friendly and give me good signal quality, speed and stability. You can find it in the Kitchen repository or go to the link in my signature.
The Kitchen do a favor for you and is after you download anything, it installs automatically.
Give it a try and tell us your experience If you have trouble, we are here.
Hey,
Im using OMEGA AOKP Milestone v1 4.1.2 ROM, ive installed the new Siyah s3 1.7 today, and downloaded the BatteryProfile.zip.
Problem is - phone keeps on rebooting almost every time I unlock it / enter an app or w/e.
I'll need your help in setting up the phone for more battery with siyah, or better solutions.
Thanks, sorry for newbism.
You're overclocking with too much undervolting. Try 1.6ghz w/ - 100 undervolting. As for GPU, start with 266and move up. Try the overclocking thread somewhere around this forum. Also set touch boost level to 1200.
Thanks
Hi All
Welll my parnter ( and now me) have these phone and are loving them.
Hers is on stock rom and rooted plus tweaked and mines on chameleon 3.0.4(hers will be soon too)... We are wondering which kernel is best for OC, performance and battery?
so the question we are asking is simply what is your opinions on the kernels that are available for 4.1.2?

Really hard to determine whether a kernel is better than any other, since it ultimately comes down to how you use your device.
But since you asked no reason not to share my expertise.
first of all, changing any hardware specifics such as OCing is always a bad idea. Not recommended with any kernel, but thats just me.
Alright after checking battery and performance wise I came to the conclusion that i prefer Apolo kernel (for 4.1.2). Apolo kernel definitely has better battery time (for me) and performance wise is nothing bad either, i mean it's been working good for 4 months now.
Basically, my recommendation is Apolo kernel. Try it out, it might be good on your device aswell.

The kernels that are available are dorimanx, apolo and philz.
Philz is just stock with root and recovery. Dorimanx has very good battery efficiency but is no longer actively maintained. Apolo kernel is a good all-rounder kernel. I recommend Apolo 4.15b as it also includes the music bug fix that is not present in any other 4.1.2 kernels.
