I had been fighting with the same exact problem for the past 2 days!
I just fixed it by downloading the .21 firmware from Asus and renaming the extracted file EP201_SDUPDATE.zip. Manual update method from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1570696&page=13 post 128.
I am now up and running and if I can get adb going again I will do the downgrade and root. I probably will not mess with the build.prop for a while. Good Luck

Give this a try. Worked for us
did this delete your camera pics and videos? i did that last time and i lost my pics. but it was probably because i had done a factory reset before i tried this thinking that would fix it. but this shouldnt touch those files because its like an update right?
I can`t say 100% because I also did a factory wipe first. But I`m pretty certain it is just a manual update and you should be ok.
thanks alot bro. it worked and my stuff is still there.
Glad it all worked out! Enjoy

I tried this method by renaming the zip from within the extracted file and put in on a microsd card then i rebooted into system recovery and got the android with the red ex, so i rebooted but it goes back to the black screen after the epad logo and never forces the update. Any suggestions?
My rezound is currently stuck in fastboot recovery screen. Whether i reset or power down it just returns to the fastboot menu. I got the phone stock gb and tried updating to team bamf ics. It installed but realized it was crashing and went back to try to fix it following the team bamf old firmware update. I got to step 9 on the installation process part 1 but since i flashed the team bamf rom the android leak i was supposed to update to before flashing team bamf rom won't work because my phone is no longer fully stock. How do i fix everything and get back to team bamf rom? Thanks in advance.
Forgot to mention my device is S-ON.
Try to reinstall your recovery and then try to install the ROM again.

i will try that as soon as i reformat my pc... it suddenly crashed... -_-' and i'm waiting on a windows 7 dvd. will update as soon as i can
so i had to unlock the bootloader again before putting the recovery but when i unlocked the bootloader the phone went off. now the charging light just keeps flashing and the phone wont show anything on the screen
never mind this phone felt like toying with me
ok it worked i'm back on Team BAMF rom. but every time i try dialing a number on the dialer it crashes
Does the phone app crash or does your phone reboot? Also, does it do the same when you try messing with settings?
i got it to work by installing the old firmware patch file i found. now to get data working.

It might be best to do a completely fresh install.
Extract the boot.img file from your P98IMG zip and drop it into your ADB directory. Go into recovery, wipe data/cache/dalvik, install ROM and firmware patch. Then reboot into bootloader, go into ADB and type in fastboot flash boot boot.img then reboot your phone. Let it sit for about 5 minutes after the first boot and everything should work just fine. :highfive:

No problem. Glad I could help. It's a learning process, but there are great things to learn. I usually use ADB for everything but installing a ROM (since you can't...I'd love to see this happen one day.) Never have a problem when I do. If you have any more issues just PM me.

no probs thanks again
Just got this - used in excellent condition from reputable dealer (I think sourced from BestBuy), from dealer I have successfully bought from before.
came with 4.5.141 (2.3.6)
rooted it, then discovered it wasn't unlocked, so unlocked it, and then had to root it again. Then ran into probs with a status bar mod to get rid of the carrier name "AirVoice wireless", so wound up data clear so of course had to root it again (this time with eyes closed, hands behind my back - LOL).
Seems to work superbly. I have my apps backed up with Ti Backup and System Tuner Pro, so setting up a new setup (3 times so far) is relatively mindless.
I am happy with 2.3.6 rooted and googleplay frozen, but the status bar mod said I had to have CWM on it.
So I used fastboot and flashed a v4 CWM, and when I checked, it was there. A day later it was gone and I was back to stock android recovery.
So then i tried ROM Mangler and now that my phone was unlocked, it put 5.0.2.0 up nicely, booted to it and did a backup. A day later it was gone and i was back to stock.
Where oh where are my CWMs going??? LOL I've installed tons of CWMs on other phones but never had this happen. god forbid I put a custom ROM on it and then CWM disappears!!!!!
Is the Moto bootloader doing this? and how do I get it to stop?
Thoughts?
Thanks!!!

Super THANKS!!!
Hello everyone, firstly I want to apologise for having my first post here be a forgettable and generic cry for help but I'm at my wits end and I hope that the community is nice enough; I would be very grateful. I rooted my phone as the idea really excited me as the phone had been really behaving erratically, since rooting it the phone performed brilliantly, I was thinking of installing CyanogenMod but it was lost on me, the entire process and caveats frightened me away... And I put my hands in the air admitting I probably didn't respect the process enough, thinking if the worse happened - c'est la vie! Well now it has and I'm feeling sick.
I rooted a few months ago, the Android version was 4.3. Basically I know what I've done and to quote Chromium himself in his thread for the app - I love the app, I'd done nothing at all exotic since rooting the phone - no custom ROM, no custom OS, just did it for the improved performance it affords, and I've been using Fontster all this time. Only recently, thinking I'm really clever I put a ttf font file on the phone via USB, a font that was unavailable in the app itself and thought nothing of it, promptly forgetting I ever did it to be honest.
Chromium said:
https://github.com/Chromium1/Fonts/raw/master/RestoreStockFonts.zip
This feature was available in one of the previous beta versions, but I decided to remove it from the app. One of the key points of this app is that it replaces all styles of fonts included in the rom and that I personally collected (or in some cases made) full sets of the fonts. In addition I edited the classifications of all the fonts so that they dont result in a bootloop when installed. If the user was able to pick their own files the classifications of the fonts will very likely be incorrect and they will soft brick their phone. Considering I already have a bunch of ignorant, uneducated reviews on the play store from people who failed to read the description, I cant imagine how much worse it would get if I left this option in the app.

I did not know this prior to I've done; last night I had grown tired of the font I had been using and started installing other fonts and had actually rebooted the phone a few times, and then I did it, didn't I? I must have chosen the font that I had put on the phone manually, the phone reboots and it hanged.
Since then, I've tried Odin and Kies. I needed to flash the stock recovery again and I have access to both Download and Recovery mode, Odin is detecting it all good and most of the internet is in agreement that as I have access to Download mode I am able to save the phone.
I have downloaded the stock ROM from multiple services, I currently have one downloading from http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300 however but there is no mtd tar file no matter how many times I unzip the folder, using Windows' own file manager and 7zip, and there is no discussion about this anywhere on the Internet, though I am on Windows 8.1!?
Please help, I'm thinking I just need that mtd/tar file to be put in the PDA box?!
Additionally when in recovery mode there is red text -
E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
can't mount '/system' (Invalid argument)
E: failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
Am I boned?
Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated; this has really opened my eyes to the pitfalls of dealing in something I have no idea about, I'm through and through a Windows techie.

Thank you DarkestShadow for your reply; it's still downloading (but going from memory; but I'll edit when it's finished) there was a boot image, a META-INF folder, a Modem file, a system file and others - I know this isn't thorough enough. From what I've seen on YouTube and from guides online once the zip is extracted it all becomes a single mtr5 / tar file. And that just isn't happening, it's perplexing as much as it is infuriating.

Thank you very much. So if I am reading you correctly, if I can get the stock rom as a zip folder on the phone and flash via the stock recovery it should be good to go?
How would I go about getting the zip on the device? I have an SD card, although it has a lot of personal files which I don't want to lose. Could I use a tablet and computer connection to backup and get the stock rom zip on the SD card, put the SD card in my phone and then....??

Does not matter what method you choose as long as you get your personnel files off and get the zip in.
I did not realize you had stock recovery, so there is a chance it may not work. If not we will have to get you the proper odin type file.
Where are you from? what region/carrier stock are you trying flash on it?

I am in the UK. I am downloading I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU.zip , but even so, it's the whole issue with the fact I can't see the tar / md5 file.
The phone is the Samsung GT-i9300 Galaxy SIII, it's carrier unlocked.
Although I am perfectly happy and confident in flashing a different recovery, I just want to make the phone usable again. I managed to flash the stock recovery no problem. I don't care about flash count and the warranty, I'm upgrading my contract soon anyway, I just need the phone obviously!

Thank you DarkestShadow you have really surprised me, thank you so much for your assistance. I mean it from the bottom of my heart. Okay so with this file, this will go in the PDA box of Odin yes? And then flash it to the phone, with that done I can then put the stock rom zip on the card, put the card in the phone, boot up to CWM and then presumably follow the on screen prompts?
In the mean time though, I will wait for the download of the zip to finish to see if there is a tar file, if not I will flash CWM and be straight back on here for further assistance which I hope you'll be happy to provide? Do I need to name the zip file of the stock rom anything?
Thanks again.

Yes in pda, then if it does not auto restart into recovery shut phone off and hold Home, Volume up and Power buttons together. When you see the samsung logo, let go and you'll see it go into custom recovery.
Then choose install zip, storage/sdcard1 and the file should be there, does not need to be named anything special or changed at all just aslong as you recognize it then confirm.

Thank you Darkest, probably another silly question; I can just chuck the zip anywhere on the SD card, regardless of all the crap Android has formatted on/for it? - like DCIM, Android etc. as long as it's in the root of the card and I know what it's named.

Okay then Darkest, finished downloading SGS3INT-XXUGMK6-BTU-20131216, extracted the zip and lo and behold I have the md5 file! As well as a dll file named SS_DL
Now what? I've completely forgotten, put that md5 file into the PDA box in Odin and commence the flashing, however if I wanted could I flash the custom recovery at a later date? If I intend on using custom OS's / rooting again / just for the ease of mind knowing it's a lot more thorough if I ever soft brick again.

Thank you for all your help DarkestShadow, it worked like a charm, my S3 is now functioning, basically from the factory condition.
I have since rooted my S3 using CF Auto Root, what would you suggest my course of action to be?
Definitely install a custom recovery and from custom recovery? Can I then install say, a custom ROM but as long as I backup the current state of the phone I could then go back to back; if I wanted to?
This belongs in the Sprint Note Edge N915P device specific forums, which there is none, so I'm putting it here so not to entice other device users to flash this file. If you don't have this specific device, DO NOT FLASH!!!
This mod is ONLY for the Lollipop builds as stated in the title. Do NOT flash if you are on a KitKat rom.
I don't own the Sprint Galaxy Note Edge, I own the regular Sprint Galaxy Note 4. I figured you all might want to have this option for your rare phones with little development. This is a permanent solution for unlocking the native hotspot as well as USB tether feature. it will not be overwritten by prl or profile updates wether pushed automatically by Sprint or done by the user.
Instructions: You MUST have root. No Exceptions.
[for deodexed Lollipop 5.01 N915PVPU2BOC8 / N915PSPT2BOC8 roms ONLY]
Flash the zip from the link below in recovery and reboot system. No need to wipe anything. When the phone reboots it may take up to 15 minutes for the phone to optimize the system again. In this case just let the phone sit and once it finishes the screen will go off. You will now have working hotspot as well as usb tether feature.
[for factory stock rooted odexed roms, VERY IMPORTANT]
Download the hotspot mod zip file and put it on your internal or external storage.
BEFORE flashing the hotspot mod you MUST first use a root file explorer to delete "services.odex" file located in system/framework/arm folder. (The system will likely freeze or auto reboot... in this case, pull the battery and reinsert it). Then IMMEDIATELY power off your phone. Next reboot into recovery and wipe cache and dalvic-cache. Last, flash the hotspot mod zip file and reboot system. Reboot will take several minute while the system optimizes (apx. 15 mins) so don't panic. When the screen finally turns off the optimization is finished.
Done!
If you find this mod useful, please press that THANKS button!!! Enjoy!!!

This sent me into a battery-pulling bootloop as well. I flashed SprNoteEdgeDeodexedStockNoKnoxNK1.zip as noted in the other thread. I'd give you a link to find it, except, well, given the massive flow of ROMs, tweaks, mods, themes, kernels, et cetera, for this phone, I think you'll do just fine on your own...
However, once I did, all was back to normal, except, there is no "services.odex" file located in system/framework/arm. There isn't even a /arm folder.
And the hotspot works just fine.
If one of you could zip up a stock services.jar and it's odex file i will redo the mod. I need the files from the very latest build. PM me the link whomever uploads it. Thanks in advance.

Another member has already uploaded the files. I'll get it done and uploaded today. Look for an updated link in the OP later today.
Edit: The OP has been updated with a new build of the hotspot mod. So download it again and give the new version a try. The instructions will be exactly the same. This mod is deodexed. Stock odexed rom users MUST manually delete the services.odex file located in system/framework/art folder immediately after flashing this mod!!! You can add the hotspot toggle using SQLite editor or by flashing a rom which the dev included the extra toggles. Google or search here on XDA for those instructions.

Thank you Sir!
I would appreciate confirmations from users if the mod is working for you. I'm confident it will work just fine but confirmations would be appreciated.

Make sure you wait at least 15 minutes and the phone may sit at tghe yellow sprint spark screen while the system re-optimizes. If it doesn't finish booting after waiting 15 minutes then pull battery and reboot into recovery and wipe cache & dalvic cache and reboot system again. Wait another 15 minutes and see if it will boot.
Is this ^^^^^^ working?

it should if you follow my instructions. I don't own this device so I can't test it. Nobody has posted to confirm they got it working. But I can say that if you follow the instructions in the Op you should have no problems. I've done this mod many times on different devices including the regular Note 4. Post your results so others can know.

Going to flash. I made a back up. I'm on the new stock lollipop that I rooted. Is stock odexed or deodexed? I want to make sure I follow your instructions to the letter.
Thank you VERY MUCH for helping us lonely edge users.
