I've had no luck with wifi ever since I started trying out ICS builds.
So far I've restricted myself to leaked official builds. The phone just can't hold onto a damn wifi signal even when kept right next to the bloody access point.
Every few minutes it disconnects. Sucks when you're trying to download a huge update for a game.
I don't know if there's an official build out for India, I'm using DDLP8 which was marked as for Nepal. It's definitely stable, but wifi connectivity is totally useless .
I use Wifi Analyzer, and it shows up signal strength as pretty good, using automatic channels, and usually it latches onto channel 11 or 13. My other devices at home have never faced any such problem so it's definitely not a router problem.
Is there anything else to check for?
Edit: I'm using XXLPQ, not DDLP8 (which is the baseband version). My bad.
not familiar of ddlp8 as cant find it as sammobile / intratech
why dont you skip the leaked firmwares and just use the official ones.
also complete wipe your phone flash a GB stock and dont do anything else ...., no root no restores and see if it hold wifi.

It appears DDLP8 is a modem/baseband version. Not the build version. That's why you couldn't find it. But I'm just guessing. OP will have to confirm or deny that.

Yes, you're right. I am using XXLPQ for Nepal, after reading that the official Nepal build works fine on the Indian version of the S2. Sammobile still does not show any official build for India. Does this make a difference?
I saw the problem moments after I had flashed the ROM and rebooted, i.e. with a clean phone set to factory defaults (and rooted) - so I doubt it's due to any other program interfering.

Only for getting "official" updates through Kies. If you don't care about getting updates through Kies, then no, it won't matter.

Wifi drivers are in the kernel, I believe. What method did you use to root? Did you flash a kernel to achieve root? Try flashing a new kernel, or flashing a stock ICS kernel and see if your Wifi still drops after that.
Well, you can also give a try by flashing your baseband/modem itself and see it will be any better. You have few ones in this topic, all flashable via CMW :

I'm fairly certain modem/baseband has NOTHING to do with wifi, so I'll have to disagree with you on the possibility of it fixing his problem.

Ok, thanks for your links mate, at least i ve learned something. So, he can also give a try by testing different kernels then.
still having issues, you have to do some work..... flashing kernels is not the solution! it should work as is!
1: using cwm format system, cache, data, dalvik
2: flash one of the newer GB Stock Roms get one from intratech, using odin.
3: dont root just see if it works without doing anything, keep it stock. no restores nothing
if it works, it will work on ICS too now.

Well, if you re-read some of the posts above, he said he rooted, but didn't say HOW he rooted. If he rooted by flashing a kernel, then that could be what is screwing with his wifi, depending on WHICH kernel he used. So flashing a different kernel MAY actually solve his problem.
To my experience this problem is most likely related to the kernel you are using. The latest siyah kernel supposingly rectifies this issue. Why dont you give it a try?
I did and saw a big difference...

[Q] Galaxy SII with UGKG2 baseband - going "back" to a different stock firmware
Hi guys,
Now I've just got a Galaxy SII from Bell (and unlocked it), and the baseband is UGKG2. I've seen the discussion and well understand there is no stock firmware available at the time, so if I flash it, there's no way back for the original one (until posted by Samsung).
Here's my question - can I securely flash a different, but STOCK firmware to this model? What I actually need is to install a stock Russian firmware, so that Russian is available as the interface language. If so, which flavour should I use? There is a bunch of official Russian firmwares (e.g. I9100XEKE1, I9100XWKE2, I9100XWKF1, I9100XXKG1, I9100XWKF3), but which of these should I reasonably expect to be compatible with UGKG2?
Thanks a lot for help.
They should all be compatible, as far as i know the bell gs2 is identical to the ones sold in europe. The radio is even the same, since the ones sold in europe also work with 3g in north america, so you should be good to go. Id just figure out whatever is the newest russian firmware and flash it, also check if its carrier or not, since I'm sure you wouldn't want some russian carrier bloat on it or something.
If you want the newest rom possible, id recommend the XXKG3, its not russian, but its the 2.3.4. Im running it on my bell sgs2, works great. and its generic.
Also I'm pretty sure the generic european firmwares all feature russian as a language, so you wouldn't specifically need to flash a russian rom id think.
good luck.
Edit* just checked my XXKG3, and it has russian listed as a language.

Thanks a lot for the reply. So you say I can go for 2.3.4 too and shouldn't necessarily stick with 2.3.3? Sorry, I am new to this stuff.
Could you give a link to XXKG3, I'd love to try that one out.

I just had a look through that thread, lots of guys have problems with flash in browsing, but it's not apparent what their original firmware was... Did you too have UGKG2 before you flashed XXKG3? They also say something about "Frankenstein", is that the one I get via the link you gave earlier? Yeah, and they mention repartition - did you do that too?
Yeah, i have it flashed and i went from the bell rom to it, i did check repartition since it ensures that you will not have any problems as its a complete clean flash. And yes I'm aware of the flash issue, i hate flash for personal reasons ( on a mobile device, as it leads to general lagyness and drains battery) and i always turn it off on any android phone I've used, so i could care less about the flash bug but it might be a deal breaker for some i understand.
as far as the link, the first link given in the main post, thats the actual rom, the stock rom no frankenstien or anything. I didn't flash frankenstien just the original rom.

Mine was the bell phone, i9100m, the i9100 and i9100m are identical, i suppose bell just added an m to their variant to feel special or something. Makes no diff.

Hi all i have returned to the android scene from IOS trying to work out a means of downloadong the factory/carrier Firmwares i remember from when i had a i9000
It was possible to force kies to download the releasle from Samsung with the spoofer tool despite googling for two days straight and trwaling thru the forums i have not been.able to find a means or even of a download of the. firmware im wondering about
Galaxy S 2 running 2.3.3 gingerbread
PDA: I9100TDOKH1
PHONE: I9100TDOKG2
CSC: I9100TTNZKH1
Im presently dubious about attempting to attain root on this device if i cannot get kies to flash it back to stock rom or even.maintain a copy of this rom
any heads up or advice where to move forwards.
Im hoping the carrier soon releases the 2.3.4 update shortly... failing that i will just debrand with another 9100T rom
cheers any advice for the next move would be great!
I would suggest asking Intratech for it in his carrier-branded firmware thread in the development section. The Voda firmware is listed, so TCNZ's shouldn't be too hard for the man to track down.

I think it may come available soon
I think Telecom only released their branded handsets in the last 6 days.. so perhaps the Firmware will come available soon..
Failing that maybe the 2.3.4 update will be what comes available (if ever)
Perhaps a debrand is inorder...
It sounds like Telecom have fairly heavily modified the firmware which is going to make future updates very slow. By comparison Vodafone left it almost completely stock-standard.

Yes you should flash a stock ROM or AOSP ROM. Flashing doesn't void warranties these days. You can reset your download count using what's called a USB jig aka resistor, So when you break it you can just reflash a stock rom reset the download count an Samsung will never know any better.

Here's an email I received after asking Telecom if they supported it in July (originally posted on Geekzone):
Thank you for your email query and we apologise for the late response, as this needed to come from our network team. Please find their response below:
"No we currently do not have NCFD feature enabled. Because only the handset benefits from Fast Dormancy for battery life purposes. In fast dormancy the handset notifies the network to release the air interface so it’s put into IDLE state much quicker than going through to Cell-FACH and finally to Idle. This can cause much more signaling on the network between the RNC, NodeB and mobile device which (increase in signaling load) can lead to congestion.
We have a number of features on the network that can work with Fast Dormancy and not cause a large increase in signaling load, however there is no current ETA for deployment."
Should you require any further assistance please email or call 0800550120 or *120, we would be happy to assist.

I've used many different modems (probably all of them to be honest), but am quite happy with the KI3 one at the moment. It's giving me no issues as far as XT's network goes, but I don't travel a lot so am not really a good judge. It does give me more range with Wifi though, something I have had issues with on other modems.
No idea on stock firmware. Has Intratech posted a link? He finds most of them.
The Gsm/WCDMA data is really buggy on my phone.I switched 2-3 roms but it didn't solve the problem.
So i assume it is a hardware problem & thinking of taking it to the SE service centre. But my phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked using s1 tool.
So should i unroot it and relock the bootloader before giving it for servicing as i still have the warranty..
If yes.. Then how to unroot?
do a repair software with pc companion(that way you will remove root), and get clean stock rom.
after that check if you still have problems with signal, with clean rom.
if you still have problems, take it to servce center but before, relock it with s1tool, use restore button.
anw, what problems do you have?

Don't have any links with deep explanation.
Firmware and ROM are pretty much same things. Actually some people use firmware as name for stock ROM, meaning default OS which came from Sony Ericsson. While ROM is occasionally used as custom ROM, meaning someone changed few things.
Baseband, well to put it simple, the way people use it here(it's not same but not to far from original definition of baseband, as it's connected to signal), it's part of firmware which is responsible for your signal.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The data was not at all working... When i reboot the phone sometimes it works but most of the times it doesn't.... It was like a 1 in 100 chance of working...But after flashing .42 it seems to have solved the problem.
And does baseband have anything to do with the data as u have said it is responsible for the signal?
Well it could have something with signal. But I doubt that it would manifest like in your case. At least I hear it first time.
Actually, now when I read this thread again , you only said you had problems on custom ROM's? And since you are now ok on clean .42fw, which means your phone is ok. Problems are in those custom ROM's.
Now custom ROM's flash only system partition, at least the one I seen.
I'm not sure where is baseband is flashed, but I don't think custom ROM's touch it. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
What custom ROM's have you tried?

Actually i have again flashed NeoV_emann's rom and everything is well..
I had tried Se Tweaked,Aniking,NeoV_emman and the data suddenly stopped working..But i think i was on the .42 firmware and the last time i checked it was .62 firmware... So i assume that only the firmware had changed but not the baseband which could have causing the data problems
hello all,
i have followed entropy512's thread here to get my at&t samsung galaxy s2 rooted with stock settings...i then wanted clockworkmod recovery so i went to this and followed directions to get everything installed...everything was ok and working until a few weeks ago when the 'Check Update' option under Setting stopped working...
basically what happens is when i goto Settings-> Software Update->Check for updates->Hit OK (Check the AT&T server for new software update?) a dialog comes up that says 'Checking for software updates...' and nothing happens...i have left the phone over night with device management app checking for software updates... when this used to work, it took less than 1 minute to check...
finally, the only way for me to stop this is to go and force stop Device Manager under Applications->All, so before i restore the phone to factory, i was wondering if anyone knows what might be the issue here?
Thanks,
FI

umm this option was working until a few weeks ago and it randomly stopped so im not sure what rooting has to do with it...furthermore, i did search using various permutations of words around the issue at hand, and i did not find threads that addressed this issue...

Being rooted you shouldn't even worry about updates, if you had actually searched you would have seen that

OTA updates require factory recovery. I'm a bit hazy on the details but I believe CWM, in short, replaces that.
It might also be because you either turned off/uninstalled or inadvertently removed factory bloatware.

This. Amongst other things. If u insist on trying to eventually upgrade to whatever crap gets pushed out to us yer best bet is to do a full wipe to completely stock firmware.

once again, the issue is not weather i should worry about updates or not nor did i search for if i should worry about updates...this option was working and something happened that caused it to stop working...and my searches i did was around getting device management to connect to the dm server (which is where the 'Checking for update' got stuck)

both of you seem to be spot on...i didnt realize that removing bloatware which was marked as 'ok to remove' on the document of things to remove safely could have been the issue...initially i had frozen them using titanium...neway i restored the phone using the CWM backup i had and the option started working like expected...thanks for the input
I'm curious...why do you want that option to work?

so that i can get ICS when AT&T releases the official one... i know there are leaked versions out there, but i dont mind the wait, especially, from the research, i have found people having issues with various features

Do you recall all the issues with UCKK6 Gingerbread? That was an AT&T release. The devs had to tear it apart to debug and try to fix it. Any build will have bugs in it. But generally, custom firmwares will have fewer bugs than AT&T firmware.

unfortunately, i joined the android bandwagon only when i got my samsung galaxy s2, which was a little late in the game, so i have no clue on all the start up issues that people experienced with Gingerbread release...
for now ill need to stick with stock/At&T firmware however ill make the switch to custom firmwares when i stop being lazy and create a USB jig for myself...

I've been running AOKP by Task for a while and have never had a serious issue. The one's I have had were self inflicted and with some reading were quite easy to fix.

if my research that i conducted a while ago is right, then basically samsung has implemented a flash counter which increments each time you flash a custom, non-stock rom...it might also be applied to non-stock kernels/firmwares as well (im not too sure)...so to prevent the flash counter from ever incrementing, ill need to put the phone in download mode using the jig and continue from there...

This is wrong. It is only incremented when you use ODIN to flash nonstock items. CWM has no bearing on flash counters.

You have some bad information...but I have some good news for you.
The flash counter only counts the number of times you've flashed a custom kernel in download mode via Odin. Using CWM to flash anything can't touch the flash counter. Same goes for Mobile Odin. I've been rooted and flashing for months, I don't have a jig, and my counter is still at zero.
EDIT: Ninja'd by a pirate!

Any GB issues only surfaced if you updated to 2.3.6. 2.3.4 for a "stock" firmware was pretty awesome. I'm on the latest ICS leak from ATT (LD4) and aside from the emmc bug (I'm using a safe kernel so I don't have it) IMHO its more complete then CM9 was. I stopped using CM9 at the end of May and don't miss it at all now.

alright well i learnt something new today...and now that i have the freedom to flash like a mad man without worrying about flash counter (via CWM), i will surely checkout some of the leaked versions of ICS that you guys are using, and see which one works best for me...thanks for all the new info

I reccomend roms that use i9100 bases as they are usually better, roms like phonebricker, and shostock2 are good, my favorite touchwiz based rom though is serendipity 9. But thats my experiences so try them for yourself (i use aokp as my daily though.)

Remove Triangle and Reset Counter
http://shetalksandroid.blogspot.com/2012/03/how-to-reset-sgs2-flash-counter-and.html
Please read the above link.
I just did it last night and really works!
Time to hit the Thanks button
EDIT:
This not only makes the meter go back to zero, but also removes the yellow triangle, without the JIG.
Thanks to Chainfire, its free! Just read the above link. (And please "Search" more
I tried JB recently but since then I have had almost none existent Wifi. It tries to connect but then says Authentication failed.
I appreciate there is a known issue with JB roms not having an updated Bootloader or something of that nature, and I have also read that it is possible to fix the issue by using Odin to revert back to stock.
These are the steps I have taken:
1. Flash Stock Rom using Odin.
2. Reflash Stock Rom using Odin but also updating bootloader.
I have heard that the above steps do indeed fix the issue, but unfortunately I have found no evidence to suggest that.
As there are many people using JB now (well at least there are plenty of ASOP and Stock JB roms knocking about), has anyone else had this issue, and if so, has anyone got a nice step-by-step tutorial on fixing the Wifi issue?
I really need help now, as my phone is almost unusable without a Wifi connection.
Thanks in advance!

There was an issue about wifi in older leaks but it has been solved already. I suggest you should try latest jellybean leak XXDLI1. you will not have to full wipe... so dont worry. you will not lose any data or app or anything....
I've just installed CheckROM EVO HD 5.0 and my Wifi signal is still weak.
You mentioned in your reply that Wifi is fixed in newer JB builds, but why didn't it work going back to ICS stock either?
Really need an answer for this as I'm going round in circles.
I actually never tried going back to ICS.when I had the same problem I just flashed the newer JB and it worked like charm. Try installing different modem..

Does the modem really affect Wifi? I would assume that the modems only relate to the GSM capabilities of the phone.

In that case restore to ICS and wait for JB to be released by Samsung .

As you said before that you already installed back ics which also has different kernel than jb that you used and it didn't worked as well, so tests why I said TRY installing different modem.

why not just download a different rom? lots of custom roms such as hypergalaxy are nice light and basically stock but faster
Problem found!
Ok....I've found the problem.
It appears that my WIFI refuses to connect to any WIFI running on the 2.4Ghz spectrum. Whether I set security as Open/WEP/WPA/WPA2 etc I cannot connect unless I am literally within a metre of the Access Point.
Luckily at my workplace we have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz spectrums available for WIFI. If I only allow the 5Ghz spectrum on my phone I can connect to the APs without an issue! Leaving my phone on 'Auto', allowing both 2.4 and 5 I cannot connect.
The problem here is, my home router, as with most people, doesn't support 5Ghz, and being with Sky Broadband I cannot get access to my Broadband account details. This of course means I cannot replace my router! :-/ I can however connect a new router to the network, disable AP on the Sky router and enable AP on the new 5Ghz router.
....so I have a work-around!
But this isn't enough! WHY WHY WHY does my phone have problems with 2.4Ghz???
Steps I have taken (in no particular order):
Flashed back to Stock, gone from Stock to Rooted ICS, ICS to JB, back again, and in every combination
Disabled Wireless Power-saving on my phone
Flashed various kernels
Flashed various modems (yes I know modems have nothing to do with Wifi...but some people on this forum insist this can fix Wifi issues)
....and NONE of the above have worked.
Could this be a hardware issue?
Anyone else experience this?
