The Gsm/WCDMA data is really buggy on my phone.I switched 2-3 roms but it didn't solve the problem.
So i assume it is a hardware problem & thinking of taking it to the SE service centre. But my phone is rooted and bootloader is unlocked using s1 tool.
So should i unroot it and relock the bootloader before giving it for servicing as i still have the warranty..
If yes.. Then how to unroot?
do a repair software with pc companion(that way you will remove root), and get clean stock rom.
after that check if you still have problems with signal, with clean rom.
if you still have problems, take it to servce center but before, relock it with s1tool, use restore button.
anw, what problems do you have?

Don't have any links with deep explanation.
Firmware and ROM are pretty much same things. Actually some people use firmware as name for stock ROM, meaning default OS which came from Sony Ericsson. While ROM is occasionally used as custom ROM, meaning someone changed few things.
Baseband, well to put it simple, the way people use it here(it's not same but not to far from original definition of baseband, as it's connected to signal), it's part of firmware which is responsible for your signal.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The data was not at all working... When i reboot the phone sometimes it works but most of the times it doesn't.... It was like a 1 in 100 chance of working...But after flashing .42 it seems to have solved the problem.
And does baseband have anything to do with the data as u have said it is responsible for the signal?
Well it could have something with signal. But I doubt that it would manifest like in your case. At least I hear it first time.
Actually, now when I read this thread again , you only said you had problems on custom ROM's? And since you are now ok on clean .42fw, which means your phone is ok. Problems are in those custom ROM's.
Now custom ROM's flash only system partition, at least the one I seen.
I'm not sure where is baseband is flashed, but I don't think custom ROM's touch it. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)
What custom ROM's have you tried?

Actually i have again flashed NeoV_emann's rom and everything is well..
I had tried Se Tweaked,Aniking,NeoV_emman and the data suddenly stopped working..But i think i was on the .42 firmware and the last time i checked it was .62 firmware... So i assume that only the firmware had changed but not the baseband which could have causing the data problems

First of all please forgive me that I had to create a new thread for things which are explained already plenty of times. the only thing happening is that all the things explained earlier, are not working in my case. Guys please help me. everything was running fine until I decided to switch to stock 2.3.3. I was unaware with this baseband thing. I switched to stock 2.3.3. I did not like it, so decided to roll back to cm7, I did, and here i am with no signal in my phone... I did flash the old baseband, but am still stuck with no signal... am in real trouble, and now if I again switch to stock 2.3.3, then also I dont get a network coverage at all. Please help me buddies
And yes one more thing, even if I flash back the old stock froyo, via kdz or lgmdp, I cant get the network coverage ... the guy at LG service center says there's some problem with the board ... but I dont think its the board problem, is there any way to diagnose this issue or am I *ucked?

What ROM are you running on, Their are a few ROMs that haven't fixed network issues, If you are using a iHO ROM then have you tried the Airplane Mode Fix?
right now I have flashed stock gingerbread. that 'v20g' one. but if u say, i will switch to another rom whichever u say... I tried stock froyo, mik's cm7, and void.# forever's cm7. none of those fixes the signal, I even tried the new baseband patch provided by mik, not working :'(
What phone do you have. Do you have an optimus v,you have to use a ROM for it.

Flash original rom and recovery and take phone to service center, if you have warranty phone will be repaired for free.

I've had no luck with wifi ever since I started trying out ICS builds.
So far I've restricted myself to leaked official builds. The phone just can't hold onto a damn wifi signal even when kept right next to the bloody access point.
Every few minutes it disconnects. Sucks when you're trying to download a huge update for a game.
I don't know if there's an official build out for India, I'm using DDLP8 which was marked as for Nepal. It's definitely stable, but wifi connectivity is totally useless .
I use Wifi Analyzer, and it shows up signal strength as pretty good, using automatic channels, and usually it latches onto channel 11 or 13. My other devices at home have never faced any such problem so it's definitely not a router problem.
Is there anything else to check for?
Edit: I'm using XXLPQ, not DDLP8 (which is the baseband version). My bad.
not familiar of ddlp8 as cant find it as sammobile / intratech
why dont you skip the leaked firmwares and just use the official ones.
also complete wipe your phone flash a GB stock and dont do anything else ...., no root no restores and see if it hold wifi.

It appears DDLP8 is a modem/baseband version. Not the build version. That's why you couldn't find it. But I'm just guessing. OP will have to confirm or deny that.

Yes, you're right. I am using XXLPQ for Nepal, after reading that the official Nepal build works fine on the Indian version of the S2. Sammobile still does not show any official build for India. Does this make a difference?
I saw the problem moments after I had flashed the ROM and rebooted, i.e. with a clean phone set to factory defaults (and rooted) - so I doubt it's due to any other program interfering.

Wifi drivers are in the kernel, I believe. What method did you use to root? Did you flash a kernel to achieve root? Try flashing a new kernel, or flashing a stock ICS kernel and see if your Wifi still drops after that.
Well, you can also give a try by flashing your baseband/modem itself and see it will be any better. You have few ones in this topic, all flashable via CMW :

Ok, thanks for your links mate, at least i ve learned something. So, he can also give a try by testing different kernels then.
still having issues, you have to do some work..... flashing kernels is not the solution! it should work as is!
1: using cwm format system, cache, data, dalvik
2: flash one of the newer GB Stock Roms get one from intratech, using odin.
3: dont root just see if it works without doing anything, keep it stock. no restores nothing
if it works, it will work on ICS too now.

Well, if you re-read some of the posts above, he said he rooted, but didn't say HOW he rooted. If he rooted by flashing a kernel, then that could be what is screwing with his wifi, depending on WHICH kernel he used. So flashing a different kernel MAY actually solve his problem.
To my experience this problem is most likely related to the kernel you are using. The latest siyah kernel supposingly rectifies this issue. Why dont you give it a try?
I did and saw a big difference...

Sorry for the late reply - this time I replaced the stock ROM with DragonROM and Siyah 3.1 Rc1, and now the problem is..less frequent.
Hi, I have the same problem. My wifi keeps connecting and disconnecting multiple times even in a minute. I am on stock India ICS4.0.3. ddlp4.
I would like to ask for some ideas what could possibly cause my problem with flashing one particular kernel.
Here`s my starting point:
1. I know what I`m doing, I`m comfortable with flashing custom kernels & roms, that means my bootloader is unlocked etc... /talking about U20i/
2. I` ve done extensive search on this forum and elsewhere
3. I went through SEUS update
4. I`ve got latest flashtool, but tried also older versions, tried on various PCs
5. There`s only this one .ftf in the firmware folder
5. I` ve got the right kernel file, triple-checked that, re-re-downloaded, md5
matches, nobody else reported this problem
When I try to flash it with flashtool, it gives me this error line:
ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="MEMORY_CLASS";ERR_STATIC="HASH_VER";ERR_DYNAMIC="Failed to init erase"
After that, I can flash ANY other kernel w/o problems.
Questions:
1. Is there anybody with the same problem?
Talking about this: http://www.mediafire.com/?ish1obpr8mtxdh6 , but you could possibly have the problem with other kernels too
2. Is there a possibility that my boot partition is somehow corrupted?
3. Is there a way to check for that and make some repair?
4. Am I loosing my mind? /I am, no need to answer to this,
thank you /
i also had this problem on my X8 when flash kernel Alfs CM8, but when i tried Kernel nAa, it is succes

Thank you all. I'm using nAa's ics kernel and miniCM9 since the day it was released for our devices, so the above problem doesn't really matter no more. But the question remains - how such thing as described could possibly happen at all, when everybody else had no such problem with the same kernel and I am dead sure I had the right one and did everything I should. Well, **** happens and it's not always possible to explain why, obviously.

I can see I'm being misunderstood. The problem I described doesn't get solved if I flash OTHER kernel. The question remains the same: how could that thing happen at all? OK, I don't need that kernel mentioned in OP anymore, but still I hoped I could hear from people whether they hadn't experienced such things with other kernels and what could be possible solution. This would be useful if somedy in the future will search forums for help, don't you think?

Ah, you managed to flash the ICS2 kernel instead of ICS1, is that right?
I guess sometimes things fail for some reason, it seems this was a random bug that not many people experienced.
Have fun anyway with your new Rom, glad it worked out in the end.

Hey,
some more information would be useful Which android version do you have? Phone rooted? Which Rom?
Either way, try this: Go to settings --> applications --> all --> camera --> clear data
Maybe that will help already..
Yes please let us know which rom and kernel you are on.
THere was an issue before with some kernels but was fixed in newer roms. I still get this error when using NEAK 2.1.x so I switched kernels and everything is fine now.

Well, only one of your screenshots works.
I'd flash back a stock firmware and see if it works. If not, reset the flash counter and send it for service, should be covered under warranty. In fact, that's probably the first thing you should have done instead of flashing custom kernels.

If you want, it won't hurt. And depending on the state of your eMMC chip, it may end up being safer for you.
You can also find all firmwares (including 4.0.4) at www.sammobile.com.
Since you're on 4.0.4 though, make sure you do not do a full wipe/factory reset from recovery before flashing.
thanks

If your phone is "sane", don't worry about what I said regarding wiping. That was only a concern if you had a phone that was classified as "insane".
Awesome

some things got better .
it was a problem the bluetooth did not work the youtube app did not work
now its fine
the cam doesnt work still
it does a pic -- doesnt save it ..
and most of the time shows the there is some problem with it and does not opporate
beside the wierd colors i get ,,, exterme red dots and such

well now i did try a CM 10.1 rom and CF kernel
mmm did not help to fix the cam

Hi all,
So i have been having some problems with my s2 recently which I hope you can help me with. Phone was working fine a few months ago, then the micro usb socket failed on me. No worries, new board goes in all is well. Then a couple of weeks ago same problems again, again no worries ill put a new board in i thought!
Please with another sucessful fix I also decided to finally test out ICS so jumped on the latest nightly cyanogenmod. Anyway, since these things I am now finding my phone will just stop getting any signal. IT usually eventually comes back after many resets and battery pull outs, and when it works it works well (3g access no problems). Today it has done the same thing and now won't seem to come back, even the IMEI number is missing this time when i type *#06#....
Does anyone know if this is likely hardware or software?
Thanks all,
Ian
Not even generic imei? You dont happen to have a EFS backup?
Have you tried flashing back te original firmware you had before the problem?
Have you tried changing the modem? since it is the one that adresses the signal problem.
And if you're thinking of flashing original ICS firmware do be carefull. Mind the Brickbug.
I face the same problem, but i at least get generic imei and signal.
Please excuse the bad english.
no imei when type *#06#
No backup.
I had this problem last weekend but the imei came back just from lots of resetting. Question is is this hardware or software?

Well, if you had a backup and restored and it would have worked it we could have ruled out the hardware.
Otherwise it surpasses me. I would have an experienced forum member answer your question. I am sorry i was of no help.
Please read these. It may be of some help.

thanks for your help anyway it is much appreciated. Hopefully someone wikll be along to help me out, ideally want to keep the phone another 3 months til my contract upgrade
Without a backup you're not fixing it. Service centre if you want it done properly, or ask local mobile repair shops (which can be very 'hit & miss').
It's unlikely to be a hardware issue if the IMEI has disappeared. It's a firmware/software problem that's caused it; exactly what however, would be conjecture on anyone's part (and irrelevant anyway; knowing what caused it isn't going to help you fix it, trust me).
Edit - Given you've only got a few mths till you get a new phone & given the probable cost of repairs, I'd be bringing forward my new phone purchase.

When I used to run GB Miui (>12 mths ago, shortly after I got my phone), the IMEI would occasionally disappear immediately after boot for anything up to 30 seconds.
Why did it happen ? I'm no developer (I'm not even sure the developers of that particular rom knew), but it always showed up or after another reboot.
Essentially, if the IMEI doesn't come back after rebooting a couple of times, you're cactus.
Maybe do a clean install of stock & a reset (stay away from 4.0.4 stock). I wouldn't get my hopes up tho. First thing you do when you run non-stock firmware/root your phone is backup EFS. Always.

hmm will potentially have to try this then:

i rooted a couple of years ago when i got the phone, don't ever remember mention of efs and never had problems until now...
well a couple of data wipes and a reinstall of the same rom againand i have signal again...
i think this confirms it must be software related...now to backup efs.
Tell the developers of the rom you're using. Could be useful to them.
will do! any suggestions of a ICS rom that is more stable than the CM nightlys?

Lol I would say so, however you have realised it and that's a good thing. If you can already flash a rom then you can flash modem. It's exactly the same. The only reason I've mentioned it is that I run CM nightlies myself and if I use any modem other than LS8 I have the same problem.
