Bought phone in canada, Cant get 3G connection in South Africa - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi,
I purchased my phone in Canada, proceded to unlock it as well as install Jusada's awesome ice cream Sunday final rom.
I had 3G connectivity in Canada but now that I'm in South Africa, i purchased a Vodacom SIM card but can only connect to the EDGE network, no 3G.
I know that the 3G frequencies here are 2100 & 900. I think it might have to do with my baseband but I have no idea which one I should switch to.
My current baseband is S5830DTLKI4. I also attached a screenshot of my about phone page if it helps.

I'm here on vacation! I like this place I always miss Biltong.
I flashed MODEM_S5830XWKP7_CL407346_REV03 to the phone via ODIN but it is still only connecting to the EDGE network...
Are there any other basebands that would work on the following frequencies:
GSM 900/1800
3G 2100/900

I think you maybe should setup a APN for Vodacom. Find it in Google.

I got the APN settings directly from a Vodacom rep. They told me if I can connect to the EDGE network, the apn settings are correct...

[Q] Apps dont get internet acess /cellular/

Hey guys, I cant find an answer for this question anywhere so I will have to ask you...
So, I recently bought an Xperia S and I have this strange problem that when I am on a cellular network (edge,3g) my apps CANT get internet conection BUT, I CAN browse the web via Browser. This doesnt happen when I am on wifi.
Can someone please help? Btw, I am not rooted nor unlocked.
I think here some troubles with settings, or you just not allowed apps to access cellular data. Try reset them.
Yes probably the apn settings.

Thanks!
Ok, thanx guys but may I ask HOW to reset the internet or apn settings?

Probably it's off by default for some regions or something.
Still doesnt work after I reset the apn settings to default and my backround apps thing is on. I dont know what to put in the new apn settings (when I create a new one) Should I ask my network provider? And If so, what should I ask him? That my internet works only in my browser not in my apps? Or what?
BTW, thanx for the replies.
Yes call your network provider they will send you the settings by sms or they will tell you what to do.

4g LTE Connected, how do you know?

So they are turning up LTE in Houston this weekend, how do you know you are connected to LTE. Is there any other way than, Settings/Mobile Network/4g Settings. I am assuming I will see an IP address once I am connected. Are there any apps or other ways to know?

Make sure you are on that band in settings and when your connected you will have a 4g icon where the 3g one normally is

Thanks Fernando. Yep set on the LTE/CMDA band. I had heard a rumor that Sprint was sending out a text to all LTE ready customers when they turn it up which would then require you to do a update to get the signal, I saw that in print somewhere. but obviously I can't confirm that at this point.......but soon

I am in DFW and I have been getting 4G for the last 20 mins or so and I did not need any update or anything it just started connecting to 4G.. switched back and forth a few times for a few mins. It has stayed 4G now for about 10 mins.
4G in Houston is live.

D803 KitKat Baseband is Broken in Stock ROMs, 4G DOES NOT EQUAL LTE

Hi all,
This is a thread for d803 owners to discuss how we're going to get LTE supported in KitKat.
Right now, if you flash the popular KK_Baseband floating around, you'll get "4G" after either deleting lteconfigs.apk, or tweaking your build.prop (depending on your ROM). So don't expect "4G" right off the bat, however, even after doing all necessary tweaks, you'll likely find what I found:
"4G" is not 4G, it's HSPA+ in desguise. You can tell by running speed tests (and also noting that the Network always reverts to GSM/WCDMA), they are all within HSPA+ speeds. Reverting back to JB, and running the same speed tests in the same areas results in MUCH faster speeds as it's true LTE. Meaning: 4G does not equal LTE.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "this guys a newb and didn't do the tweaks needed". No, that's not the case, I did all the tweaks, I tried this on CloudyFlex, CloudyStock and even the Rogers KK ROM floating around, all were stuck on GSM/WCDMA with "4G", which is really HSPA+.
So this being said, there appears to be no way to run a custom stock ROM, with LTE, I hope I'm wrong.
Cheers
Make sure you hve the right lte apn created and selected in apn settings , next forget about the icon , most roms are gonna say 4g , but check in networks settings if it says lte if it does your getting lte

Any ideas?

4g is LTE in configs that use US ROM base because they use that icon for the ROM instead of LTE.. Hspa has the H icon but if you check the network status screen it will show hspap... I have LTE working perfectly on my bell d803 with cloudypro2

You know 4g means lte for international Rom, only north America use 4g as hspa. Whenever you flash a custom Rom, they are mostly base on international Rom. So the 4g is actually mean lte. You can also check the mobile network type in setting as what deadgiveaway show.

Try to change target country in your build prop if you are running a custom room... Once I set mine to CA, LTE has been working fantastic

Yep, if you dont have any LTE signal phone just say "no services" etc. (i just tried)
Small problem with this. Unless having volte, you will lose telephony. And even with volte, the providers, at least in States are in process of allowing their networks to talk to each other. So basically if you enable this setting, expect to talk only to peeps on your own network, with people that own volte capable phone. All others excluded.

Sometimes when you have a weak LTE signal and the phone ping pong between LTE/WCDMA.
You may want to keep the phone on LTE despite of weak signal. That way you have better data speed but battery juice will become exhausted quicker.

Is there a way too have 4g/wcdma but not gsm?
it works perfectly but one thing is missing...if you get a call then it's lost you can't answer....or you can't make calls yourself....should be able to switch to normal signal once you make or get a call
A good thing would be having that as a widget.
