Can anyone please help with with remapping the long-press-end-key on my HD2?
I tried various searches on the forum, followed various instructions like Long_end.lnk etc. Nothing worked. I don't want to install a 3rd party app. I would prefer a registry edit, or a cab file install which can help me remap the key to a specific program.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS > Right now the long press of the end key is mapped to the quick menu with 4 options.
These kind of .cabs usually do the same as editing the registry yourself.
Look for Dutty's Task Manager.

Create a shortcut to the .exe you want to run. Rename it to 'EndKeyLNK' and copy it and the extracted 'EndKey.exe' attached below to the windows folder. Now long pressing end key will launch the exe. I did not create this i found it though i cant remember who did create it.
I use it to launch xdashutdown with no problems

Thanks buddy ... that was awesome ...
However, After doing that, when I press Long_end button, it tells me that the app cannot be run as it is unsigned or a component cannot be found. Weird.
How did you overcome that error with XDAShutdown app. I'm trying to use the Slide2Shutdown app.
Thanks

i had no problem at all with xda shutdown. Check that the shortcut you created is renamed properly and that it indeed works by manually clicking on it.
It needs to be EndKeyLNK.lnk

Thanks a bundle guys. I was able to get it working.
Made a cab, which can be installed, and pulls up Slide2Shutdown on long-press-end key.
Awesome .... me so happy ..
Anyone need the cab, just holla here, and I'll post it.
hello, iam trying to give a second option to the hardware key i dont know how to do it, i just install the cab endkey.exe but iam lost , can you orient me ?
I found this thread as I was going to try to get my old X1's Smaberg's actionscreen working with the off button (worked fine with the HD and the X1, not the HD2), then I found he'd got it working already.
It may be of interest to some of you, more options than xdashutdown.

Hey buddy,
If you're still interested - basically what you gotta do is copy the endkey.exe to the Windows folder, and then create a shortcut of the program, and rename it as endkeylnk.lnk and copy that to the Windows folder as well.
I just integrated all the steps and made a cab file (I also happen to have the exe file for Slide2Shutdown). So nothing needs to be done manually. Just install the cab, and voila ... long-press-end-key runs the Slide2Shutdown program.

Too many choices, buddy. I tried it and went away from it. I also have cabs for the BT toggle, Lock Device, Send Rec All, etc. So I just install the ones I need.

Great!! I was looking for something like this a while ago. Didn't found anything so I created my own work-around. I came up with this. Although the above solution is more simple, my solution has the advantage that you can add mortscript code in it.
Just copy the new exe over
Thanks to the contributions to this thread I was able to change the long press end key behavior...
Only I was so lazy that I didn't want to create a shortcut file and copy further files. So I only copied the original exe over the EndKey.exe using Total Commander.
And it worked immediately without soft-reset.
Given the old file is in ROM I suspect I just have to delete the copy to recover the previous one!
Thanks again because I tried the long_end.lnk and the registry 40C7 key modifications without any success.

Follow the instructions in post number 5. to create a shortcut (incase you didn't know) you long press on a file and then copy and at the destination long press in empty space and then paste shortcut. You need to find the .exe or link that launches smart lock. Create a shortcut to it and rename this shortcut to EndKeyLNK and copy it and the file contained in the zip attached to post #5 into the windows directory
Anybody know if there is a way to disable wakeup using home button?

SOLUTION
You will need Root and Root Explorer (app)
Start Root Explorer and tap on "Mount r/w" then go in /system/usr/keylayout
and edit the file "es209ra_keypad.kl"
Find string:
Code:
key 102 HOME WAKE_DROPPED
and delete WAKE_DROPPED from it, save->exit->reboot = DONE.
Didn't know it did that! Cheers ma dears.

So I'm wondering then.. Is it possible to disable the (power button) from hanging up everytime I'm on the phone?
Every time I'm on the phone and want to wake up the phone sometimes I forget that pressing the "power button" would hang up the call. is it possible to disable that?
Thank You!

crap, need some help, could someone post me their the section showing the x10 2.1 key layout...did this change to disable my home key and somehow disabled the power key as well...not sure if I might have deleted another key so just need a listing of the key number section.
Nevermind, just realized it makes an automatic backup...saw that the original file had the word HOME in caps but I had written it as Home...odd that it would be so case sensitive.
Anybody know if this method could be used to turn one of the hardware buttons into a PLAY/PAUSE button?
I take it this method still works on 2.1?
All I want to do is disable the wake for the Home button to stop my X10 waking in my pocket but I'm an ADB noob and I tried to read the thread linked (Desire) but it talks about recovery-windows.bat and windows root tools and I have no idea where this is?
I have Android SDK installed correctly I think?
Could somebody point me in the right direction please?
Thanks, Jason.
EDIT- Also confused that a post above says this can be done with root explorer but the linked thread says it cannot, I tried with Root Explorer but I cannot open the es209ra_keypad.kl file?
works the same way, but from version 2.1 only after reboot
What do you meant only after reboot?
And did you do this with Root Explorer? Did you copy the file and edit it else where?
Sorry and thanks!
A couple people have asked how my power control widget is transparent so I thought I would share the simple process.
Disclaimer: blah blah we have all seen it, this modifies settings.apk so it can put you in a boot loop. (Keep a current backup)
**This info is already online and I just tried to organize it in an easy to follow manner, there are also multiple ways to achieve the end result**
Necessities:
Ninjamorph (free in market) and a File manager/explorer (I use root explorer)
1: open ninjamorph, grant SU and let it perform its checks. It will probably error on SD card space. Reopen it and you should get no errors (unless you are in usb transfer mode)
2. Select new project and navigate to /system/app/settings.apk
3. Ninjamorph will extract the files to /Sdcard/AndroidThemes/Workspace/settings.apk
4.Back out of ninjamorph and find the files I have attached at the bottom.
note: if you do not want RED active (on) lights only use the appwidget_bg.9.png file (this will leave the "on" setting green
5. In Root Explorer (or your file manager) copy these files and navigate /SDcard/AndroidThemes/Workspace/settings.apk/res/drawable-hdpi.
6. Paste the files. They will overwrite the existing appwidget_bg.9.png along with appwidget_settings_ind_on (left center and right) 4 files total.
7. Back out of root explorer and reopen Ninjamorph.
8. Go back in Ninjamorph and hit back until you can select "Finish Project" near the botton of the app
9. Select settings.apk and let it do its thing. It will ask if you would like to zipalign. choose yes. It will ask to clean up the project. Choose no or yes, doesnt matter since you replaced the files with your file manager.
10. All done! The phone will reboot and you can now add your transparent power control to the home screen

Sure, After you click the link about halfway down on the page click "free download"
Wait a second and click it again when it says "download now"
The file is an RAR which will need either 7zip or WinRAR to grab the 4 .png files out of the archive.
If anyone is a non-techie, Widgetsoid is a free widget that is highly customizable power control widget that can be set to transparent and has a large number of control options.s.

Has anyone figured out how to disable the power button for screen wake, so that the menu button and menu button only wakes the phone??
I can't imagine this to be too difficult, maybe just some build.prop edit, key mapping thing??
Anyone??
-Ryan
Ok, I tried doing this myself in Root Explorer, but...
Launched RootExplorer
system > usr > keylayout
Found sec_key.kl
Made a backup of the sec_key.kl file.
Long-pressed sec_key.kl and opened Text Editor
Went down to KEY 116 POWER WAKE
edited it to become-
KEY 116 POWER
Saved the change
Rebooted the device
No dice....power button still wakes the phone.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Got it working. Also had to edit sec_powerkey.kl in same folder.
-Ryan
sticky this maybe??
For whoever is using a custom ROM and the bixby button is either disabled or cannot customize with the usual Bixby remap app, I have found a solution: (Root needed for #1, #2 works without root)
>Solution #1 (First try this, if it doesn't work - it didn't work for me for some reason - try solution #2):
With tips from the community, I have found these possible locations to edit the bixby key. Use root file explorer:
- /root/system/usr/keylayout/gpio_keys.kl
- /system/usr/keylayout/Generic.kl
- /vendor/usr/keylayout/gpio_keys.kl (?)
Search for key 703 in each of these files. If it does not exist, try to add it manually. Effects take place after a reboot.
Use this guide here for more details: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...on-with-simple-double-and-long-press.3839544/
>Solution #2 - Button Mapper: Remap your keys (Not my app)
First, try to see if you can remap the bixby key with this app. For me, it did not work again, but I found a nice workaround:
In the app, instead of changing "Bixby Button", go to "Add Buttons". Now, press the bixby key. The app should detect the key, and finally you can set it to whatever you want.
(But keep in mind, for this option, it is necessary to purchase the pro version).

Same problem as me, I didn't find 703 anywhere.. you can try manually adding it though, maybe it will work. Like:
key 703 CAMERA
save, reboot device, check if works.
Remember to save file with .kl extension, not .txt, or buttons wont work

if as you said you cant find anywhere "703" in the file, write at the end just like the others, (you can open and edit the file straight away from the root explorer)
key 703 [desired command]
for example
key 703 CAMERA
then save file and reboot phone. If it works, after pressing the bixby key the default camera app should open.
Some people say it works, for me it didn't work though.

It didn't work for me either. I worked like that, but I also typed something like this, but without success.
# input_fw Intelligent Key for Dream
key 703 CAMERA
When I change everything, I save it, after that I change the txt name to kl. It needs Check Permissions after that, and I don't see it in Root Explorer. Maybe you need to go to Settings, select the app and check the permissions? I do not know.

Weird - first check in Magisk that root explorer has root permissions. Second try to edit the file at once without first chaning to .txt - most editors support it, no need to change. If that still doesnt work, try a different root file explorer app. For me worked "root browser".
