[Q] Upgraded to ICS but now market/play is missing - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i upgraded to ICS but now the andriod market/google play app is missing and i cannot dl any other apps bc of this. when i go the google play website, the device is listed but faded and cannot be selected. Please help thank you. this was the rom i used for ics i got from this site. thanks.

did you flash the latest gapps via cwm after installing the rom?

i dont know what that is or how to do it.

well im assuming since you got a custom rom on it, you managed to install clockwork recovery (cwm). can you link the thread that you followed to get the rom on your tab for me please?

i followed these directions but i didnt purposely install a cwm. after reading what it was, i thought it was just the DOS looking screen where you load things using the buttons on the top (like how you reformat it).
yaknow---theandroidsoul.com/ice-cream-sandwich-galaxy-tab-10-1-wifi----

i wasn't aware you can install a custom rom through stock recovery. anyway the file you need is this
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
i don't know if whatever recovery you're using will install it, since i've only ever flashed roms and gapps via cwm

so i install as like an update like i did the ics rom?

[Q] Rooting issue!

Hi guys, I have had my phone for a few weeks now and I'd like to ask about a little problem I have been experiencing. So, I just rooted my device this morning and flashed the new ICS ROM. Though, I realised that I prefer MIUI. So, when I loaded recovery to flash my new MIUI ROM, I was greeted by a blue 'CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7'
I don't understand this because when I rooted this morning the recovery I had was a different version and it was orange.
What I need to know is the steps I need to take to flash a new ROM from scratch. Do I need to go back to the original ROM, then re-root? Do I need to re-root at all even?
I guess I'm still kind of a noob, so any help would be appreciated and I will click that 'thanks' button for anyone who gives a good answer.
Thanks in advance, Joe.

CWM and root are not directly related.
CWM comes with the kernel.
Root is part of the rom.
Miui will be rooted when you flash it.
You do not need to be rooted to flash roms via CWM recovery.

Impossible to install a custom rom on Hero (2.1)

Hi
I have a stock HTC Hero (2.1-update1).
I would like to install Elelinux on it but I can't install CWM Rom Manager : the free version won't show up in the market and I have tried to download the app on their website, but when I try to install it I get an error about the package analysis...
I have also tried to install flashrec, but I also get an error when I want to back up...
Help would be appreciated
Thanks !
PS: my phone is rooted, and I still have the stock recovery

ahhh ok. i remember when i had this problem on a custom rom. i managed to find an apk that worked (sorry i don't have it anymore otherwise i would upload it for you to try it out). the one i had was quite an old version of rom manager because the newer versions didn't seem to work.
if you had recovery i would maybe be able to help you further (although i'm guessing if you had recovery you wouldn't have this problem )
i'm sorry but thats all i got, maybe someone with more knowledge than me will be able to help you a bit more
I do have the recovery rom, but I can't flash it.
Do you know how to do it without using Rom Manager ?

no, sorry. that sort of stuff is way beyond what i know
EDIT: you could take a look at this guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Hero_(GSM):_Full_Update_Guide if you do decide to do it that way then its at your OWN risk. there are also a few guides here on XDA you could take a look at
Okay I'll give a look thanks.
I'll be back here to explain how it went
i have the same problem..nd i found a working rom manager from 4shared..version is 3.xx something..i can flash clockwork but then again cannot boot into recovery mode...no luck for me i guess
I'm on the HTC Heroine rom and had the same problem.
But I could recover the rommanager apk from Titaniumbackup and it installed.
It is rommanager version 4.3 I think. Not the latest but at least it works
Here is the link.
http://www.2shared.com/file/DqmG6ABU/rommanager43.html
Install notes:
Just open the apk file with your favorite android file browser and install it.
Let me know if it works, I also have an more older version that I can upload on request.

[Q] Tried to root my Xperia Ray ST18i but now i'm stuck.

Dear reader,
I've been trying to root my phone for a couple of days now. (Sony Xperia Ray ST18i)
I've browsed to numerous forums/websites in search of a good tutorial/guide to help me do it.
Finally i've managed to find youtube clips which helped me step by step to getting it done.
First thing i did was this:
How to unlock BootLoader on Xperia Ray[Official 4.0.4 ICS]
[Can't post links on here yet because of the spam block. If you look for the title on youtube, you should be able to find it]
I already encountered my first problem there. I wasn't able to unlock bootloader on my android 4.0.4 so i downgraded my phone to gingerbread 2.3.4. After that i repeated the unlock bootloader tutorial and i succesfully managed to unlock it.
After this i tried to root my phone with the easy rooting kit v.1.0
This worked but after turning my phone on, i noticed that the phone wasn't actually rooted yet.
After contacting the person who made the bootloader video, he told me that i had to flash my kernel. So i went ahead and used another of his video tutorials. (don't mind his english accent btw)
How to flash costum kernel[Sony Xperia Ray]
[Can't post links on here yet because of the spam block. If you look for the title on youtube, you should be able to find it]
Now this, running with gingerbread 2.3.4. worked without a problem and i currently have a custom kernel installed onto my phone.
This is where i run into my problem.
According to his next video tutorial:
How to root Xperia Ray
[Can't post links on here yet because of the spam block. If you look for the title on youtube, you should be able to find it]
He shows that you need to be in your phone's regular menu, in order to root your phone with the easy root kit made by DooM.
My problem is that i currently am stuck in the phone kernel menu. When i try to let my phone load up normally, it just keeps rebooting.
The kernel menu btw looks exactly the same like the one shown in the link below:
Xperia play (HOW TO ROOT, FLASH KERNEL, FLASH ROM )
[Can't post links on here yet because of the spam block. If you look for the title on youtube, you should be able to find it]
Now i've tried my best to be as detailed as possible with what my current situation is.
My question would be: What am i doing wrong and how can i root my phone from where it is right now, because as it stands. I'm unable to use my phone.
Kind Regards,
Cashtecz
ps. ( i did a quick search on the forums but i haven't come across as post that shares the same problem as i have)
Don't worry... We all make mistakes.. The, problem seems to be with the kernel you've flashed.... I've found two guideshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424121&highlight=kernel

If your bootloader is unlocked, not via pc companion or over the air.
On which rom are you currently on?
Normally you do a backup with for example titanium backup and flash the custom kernel, install the custom rom and restore the titanium backup...
P.S.: For every android version there is a zip file which contains the "gapps" (google apps like playstore) which you can flash with clockworkmod

They say, you should download them from CM 7.2 thread. Just look here and select the lastest apps for gb (gingerbread) (or just look here).
Flash via cwm (install zip from sd card)

Yes i did exactly what the guide said:
8. Now select “Wipe Data / Factory Reset” and then “Wipe partition cache” option (this is why you need to backup your data from the Xperia Ray).

[Q] Problems with flashing my I9300

Hello guys,
my name is Raphnika and I am complete new to this.
I've tried to flash my Samsung S3 with a custom ROM like the Pacman one.(KK 4.4 or something like that).
I was not able to install it on my device so I tried the Android Revolution HD ROM and that worked for me fine.
It seems like I am not able to flash any KK ROMs to my S3. I keep getting a Status 7 Error...
I googled it and tried many solutions but none of them worked. It might be to the fact that I am a complete noob to this.
I hope you guys can help me!
lots of greetings,
Raph

having problem on shifting from one custom rom to another need help !

Hey everybody. I just wanted to point out one issue which I faced.. Actually still facing, while shifting from one custom ROM to another.
Getting straight to the point. Few days earlier I installed this custom ROM named "MERE" abv. For "most epic ROM ever" in my canvas a116 (HD)
But now when i tried to install another custom rom "miui v.4.6.27" the ROM got installed but every time I boot, the opening screen of "mere" pops up. I have wiped data and did all the requisites from the recovery menu. And yea another thing, when trying to enter the recovery too, the opening screen of "mere" is popping out before the options "volume up for recovery. Volume down for factory" comes to fore.
I would be highly grateful if some body can suggest a way to remove the opening screen of the previous ROM. Thank you
P.s. I use cwm.

It also might not have included logo.bin. But I have tried cmahendra's stock deodexed rom many times. That will surely work. Just flash that and miui after that. No data wipe needed.
