Once the boot loader is unlocked it is permanent. There is a fuse in hardware, when you unlock it gets fused.
There are some people who asked the same question. The most you can do is make the unlocked text on moto boot screen disappear and go back to stock.
stock firmware?
Thats fine just as long as i can remove the unlock text on boot up, but could you direct me to the stock firmware for my phone please and how should i flash it?
Sorry about all the noob questions
Here's a thread where Foka002 tells how to do it and he also sent it in for warranty. Its risky as there is possibility of bricking. Also there is a big problem these days as all the links are all dead. So you might have a hard time finding the sbf file. If I find a link ill post back.

I want to to unlock my boot loader but i could not get understand from where should i start. i few confusion like as I'm not using ATT user so i will follow ATT pudding user guide ??? and please whats this pudding ? will it be remain network unlocked after up gradation. please help . I'm newbie and sorry for my poor English
It depends what carrier you obtained it from. I'm not familiar with the carriers in Pakistan, but if your phone is not from AT&T I would recommend following the International bootloader unlock (IHOP)

Well, if you have an IHOP phone, you'll have to apply a RAM fix after unlocking. If you have an AT&T phone, you should be set.
Just to be clear, there is no AT&T logo on the back cover of your Atrix?
If there is an AT&T logo, go ahead and flash using the AT&T pudding.
If your phone does not have the AT&T logo, you'll want to flash IHOP. If you have a non-AT&T device, the AT&T pudding will not work for you.
To be safe choose ihop I believe it works even on att so choose that to be safe

I'm sorry! I didn't realize you didn't know what Pudding was Pudding is just the term we use for the file that will unlock your device. That guide you just linked is perfect, and make sure you download the AT&T files.
Your device is an AT&T branded Atrix, so pretty much everything will work for your device.
Good luck with your bootloader, and enjoy!
Thx for help.
Well since it's an att atrix my video guide will work

I may have to return my ATRIX due to Let'sTalk horrible customer service, but I was wondering if there is anyway to re-lock the Bootloader, or to hide the fact that it says, Unlocked. Thank you in advanced
Also, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, as this is urgent to me and I have yet to see any otherpost relating this topic.
There is another topic like this.
No you can't re-lock and no you can't "hide" the unlock wording. Sorry.

Assume you installed 2.3 using CWM, if that is the case, you can flash the stock 1.8.3. Because the bootloader is not compatible with the unlocked phones, it won't show the "unlocked" text when you turn on the phone. I have tried it when I was trying to get rid if the unlocked text.
The down side is, you won't be able to flash custom ROM until you flash a compatible bootloader.

But downgrading will hard brick the phone.be very very carefully.
Reflash To Stock
Unfortunately, there is no way to relock a bootloader. Hence all of the warnings when you committed
but, if you use 4.5.91 the software at the address below should reinstall the newest stock software...
direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSelect.asp?country=USA&language=ENS
be careful because Im not sure how motorola update will react to an unlocked bootloader. Ask around...do so at your own risk.
If you want to try a harder, albeit, safer method, and you are sure that you do not have a phone running 4.1.5.91, you can restore your phone to a factory SBF with this process:
briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-system-boot-file-sbf-leaked
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY TO RESTORE A 4.5.91 system to stock with RSD LITE.
To go to any of the blue webaddresses above, copy-paste them into your browser. Sorry, but I am not allowed to post links yet.
I wonder why nobody has created a CWM downgrade for US Atrixes. NFHimself made one for Bell or international users to go to 2.2.2 Bell and it works really well. Pretty much every partition is replaced. Great for masking that your boot loader is unlocked. Someone should probably do that for ATT to make downgrading less risky than flashing an sbf again...

The downgrading and hard brick problem stems from using the OTA update, so you won't hard brick if for example you upgraded with KP's 4.5.91.
You also should be able to flash the 4.5.91 SBF. You just can't downgrade. There are other threads about this.

The reason the fruitcakes were created and deemed safe by the devs were because it didn't touch the BL, which people believe to be the culprit behind the hard bricks. NFhimself was brave enough to testing flashing the BL via cwm in his gobstopper on international phones, but I don't think any other devs are willing to risk hard bricking their phones by testing that theory on US phones.
There also isn't enough "reward" for doing so because if people want to downgrade they can use a fruitcake. The only gain is to get rid of the "unlock" text. But if you were really that concerned about it despite reading all the warnings of this will void you warranty, you shouldn't have unlocked in the first place.

Hi,
One of the reasons I did up a default CWM of 2.2.2 is to have a means of doing a reset after trying all ATT/ORANGE/TELSTRA/MOVIESTAR/etc firmwares out there which may have side effects or accumulated side effects. Hence the inclusion of the stock bootloader and radio and a write of the extra partitions to clean up whatever mix and match leftovers are in there from the various carriers. The other big one is just to be able to get a Bell OTA applied when it comes out, it will probably be similar to the leak, but best to be safe.
This is more of a Bell/Intl issue as ATT folks tend to run just ATT firmware or flash just boot and system via CWM/fastboot and don't have the same issues as flashing a sbf file.
Both the stock 2.2.2 and leaked ap20 OTA bootloaders from Bell are safe to flash after IHOP, this is not the case with ATT bootloaders and may be the case for any included in a sbf file. Finding out the hard way is not an option.
Cheers!

Think you should go to another site other than XDA with this. Something in the XXX domain should work for you. Too much information for me! LOL................
assuming it is still in warranty
hard brick the phone and return it
just tell them you was doing a software update and your kid unplugged the phone while doing so
Hi There
I have an xperia ray that is rooted and with unlocked bootloader.
I realsise that it has not been possible in the past to re-lock the bootloader, un-root and return to stock as installing an OTA update will brick the device?
Is there now a way to get this done?
The phone is now in the possesion of my wife and it is constantly nagging her to update, and she is in turn nagging me.
Any information is appreciated.
Please ask in the ask thread, so you don't nag us too.. ;-) jk. Please search first. There's a thread bout that too.. You just have to find it here.

Hi, i was wondering if someone can help me out, I'm a noob to atrix (HTC's are my thing).
I just got a motorola atrix from bell mobility, at the moment is carrier unlocked by code. I want to do the following:
1) unlock the bootloader
2) flash clockwork
3) root the device
Since my phone is already carrier unlocked do i need to skip any of the previous 3 steps?, I want to able to install custom roms on my phone (but i don't want to brick it), remember my atrix is a bell mobility atrix (not an At&T atrix). I went over the tutorials in the forum but found nothing regarding bell mobility atrix, if someone has some info regarding what to do I will really appreciate it.
Thank you!!!

Do i have to skip some steps since my atrix is carrier unlocked by code, or do i follow the guide step by step?
you have to do all steps. You have just unlock carrier, not bootloader.
root then unlock then flash cwm
then flash rom may have to reroot after unlock (i did )
Hi Pal
as you can read thread title, i flashed my MB855 Sprint with US Cellular SBF.
How can i get back to Sprint stock, any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Someone write to the moderator to make it sticky and everyone will know it immediately (maybe) . Should I give the thread another name? I don't know.
2.3.5 sv2 custom sbf/unbrick - in development section
And if there are some unclear points, tell me.
But I think, if someone wants to unbrick, he must give it some time and read and read. So there is link in another thread, where you can read more.
Hi mate,
Thanks for coming here, actually i read it more and more trying to follow all your procedure written over there.
But m stuck @ boot loader unlock process.
Code:
G:\Motorola\Original\Android\MB855\moto-fastboot-win32>fastboo
ata
... FAILED (remote: (00180001))
So without unlocking bootloader m not able to root the phone, right ? no root means none of your procedure gonna works for me, right bro?
Now please you help me step by step.
If you updated to the latest OTA, the bootloader is currently not unlockable. You can only root.

But rest procedures are still not done by me, trying trying.......
You should stop trying before you mess something up. The bootloader cannot be unlocked at the moment, if on the latest OTA.
