Is there any possibility to do this? it is pretty inconvenient to use the touchscreen to make pictures and it would be nice if the hardware buttons can be used for making pics.
i want this too, i miss real buttons! i wish handsets all had a row of generic configurable buttons like WM devices of yore.

In ics it lets you configure a volume button so once it drops that will change. Can also use camera fx for time being.
My search button is my shutter control.

Hi. Does anybody have an idea how to switch off the display manually through pressing some keys or menu icons? I found only the timed automatic possibility in the battery settings, but I need the manual function too. On each of my previous phones (TyTN II, i780) it was always possible. Thanks for your help.
Use mortscript to turn-off display and then assign the script to a hardware button.

Hmm, a little bit to complicated, but thanks for the tip
So your not talking about putting it to sleep by touching the power button? I think all my wm devices have this feature, killing the screen instantly.
I'm not sure about the request - anyway isn't it what Rose does when you press and hold End Call button?

If you touch the power button on the Rose, a menu apears, wher you can choose: if you want to switch the whole phone off, lock the keys, call the task manager or the comm manager. There is unfortunatelly no option to switch only the display off

Pressing and holding the End Call button locks the keys, it doesnt switch the display off
...simply very easy, I am looking for something like psshutxp but for smartphones (WM 6.1 standard). You can everywhere find only the pocket PC version for WM professional, which you can not unfortunatelly install on a smartphone.
Yeah, I was thinking of the pro devices. They seem to get all the love anyway. There seems to not be a built in solution then. Setting the screen timeout real short would be only option and thats not a good option at all. If I come across anything I'll repost. I've just been using the red end key. But I'm so hooked on my touch pro right now I've forgotten the rose for awhile.

I'm not sure if the home button on my GS2 is normal... Does anyone elses click loudly when you press it? It just feels strange and I want to make sure it's not faulty...
Cheers
Its a difficult to guess what 'loud' is in this case, mate. But most of the time, buttons need to be worn in for them to work smoothly.
I've only had the GS2 for about 5 days. Hmm, but I was just wondering if all the GS2 click when you press in the home button...
Thanks
Mine clicks. It's a pretty clicky button. But half as loud as a mouse-click.
That sounds about right then. Also if I apply pressure onto the button and don't full depress it, there is a little bit of movement in the button, this is what made me think at first maybe the button got dislodged somehow? But I wasn't sure... Hopefully it's OK.
Cheers
can we adjust the click sound volume level? or disable it (no silence all)?

If you remove the battery you see a small knob which you can rotate. By default it's on position 7 (from 1-10). Which is rather loud. You can turn it anti-clockwise to 1 (least amount of clickety-noise), but if you turn it a bit further (there will be some resistance) you can fully disable the sound the Home button makes.
Next to the knob is also a little switch with which you can disable the Home button lag. By default it's on "Lag" but I usually turn it to "Lagfree". It also made my homescreen-switching smoother, but I think that might be a placebo, not sure.
Hope this helps.
Hello,
My unit has not so such tuning features for home button (and i would love it), very smooth for my taste...
Maybe missed this in some other threads, search wasn't helping much though.
Is there a way to either:
A) Make the volume rocker the shutter button? I can zoom on the touch screen (running Alien4)
B) Make the shutter voice activated, say by saying "Cheese" "Click" or something when in the camera app (might be a tasker thing?)?
trying to hit the touch screen shutter button one handed can be a pain in the ass.

Say Cheese.
looks like that can do the voice activated deal, is there a way to make the volume hardware button the shutter button?
I love my evo 3D but one thing that has been driving me nuts is that whenever im holding it in landscape mode i keep hitting the heat sensitive buttons on the right while playing games or watching movies... this either causes the phone to vibrate or minimizes the app
is there a way to turn off the buttons in landscape mode?

i haven't seen any 3rd party apps which disable these buttons .. the only controls i've seen were for the LED backlight on the buttons, which i don't think is what you're looking for.
i would think, in theory, there should be some type of API an application could tap into which would disable those buttons. the first downside which comes to mind is there is no way to exit out of the application if for some reason the application has any type of issues and the back/home buttons are still disabled.
perhaps with back/home buttons disabled, enable volume rocker to go back to home? the logic starts to get a bit tricky.
the best and most narrowly focused solution which comes to mind would be for the game app developer to handle those buttons during game play. perhaps require the home or back buttons to be held instead of tapped in order to trigger their standard action.
perhaps a 3rd party app could disable tapping the buttons and require them to be held for 5 seconds in order to trigger their standard tapping action?
i know on ics, this is handled a bit better as there are no hardware buttons and they are handled in the software. in the stock ics gallery, the buttons are dimmed to dots instead of their full icons while viewing images, which gives the impression there is greater software control over those buttons than previously.
i'm sure if somebody else has seen any solutions, they'll post up.
hope that helps with a few technical thoughts from the background of an application developer!
I haven's seen this mod on sgs2, but it would be great to swap som buttons around, especially now on the sgs3...
Unfortunately Samsung have chosen a pretty bad setup now that we're running ics on our phones. The menu button is included in most updated apps these days, so to have a dedicated hardware button for this is very counter productive. And having to hold home, wait seconds to multitask is just plain stupid.
Alas, that's the way it is.
BUT could it not be possible to mod a Rom so that the menu button brings up multitask (currently: "hold home") and holding home brings up menu?
Basically it's just a swapping of the button functions. I guess it can cause some issues with the doubble tap to "siri" voice actions, but I'd happily loose that for better multitask.
Can anybody share some advice on this? Or even create the mod?

Theoretically, yes it's possible.
On my Desire only the power button could wake the phone, but I flashed a mod which enabled wake using the center button.
So for the S3, if there's a dev who wants to swap the keys, he can make one. You can try putting in a request in the Developers section a week or so from when the phone releases.

I remember when that mod came, it made using the desire a lot more efficient. It was a script edit, similar to the one for headphone button support if I remember correctly. I do think this button swapping on the sg3 will be a bit more challenging than that though, but we'll see.
I'll ask around a bit once I get the phone.
Hopefully more people than me will think this is something worth "fixing"
