ok, so my phone was "rooted" if i can even call it that, im saying that because yes, superuser was on there, but even titanium backup wasnt working properly, so i wanted to try again. so i searched up a way to unroot it with odin. it was basically overwriting my current root with a stock samsung kernel. that's all i did, now it will make all the power-up sounds the phone usually does but it's stuck on the samsung screen. i even tried going to voodoo and doing a factory reset with no luck. please help!

Hi all,
I apologise for my noobness, but I can't seem to find a method anywhere to simply root my phone.
I've tried using Doomlord's easy rooting toolkit, which failed as I believe the exploit used was patched in the latest update.
I then tried the recovery method, detailed here.
I placed the update.zip on in the root of the internal sd, but when I go into recovery mode the volume keys do nothing. Only when I click the home button a few times do I see some yellow text which says installing update, but it fails with: "can't access system/vre ...Rebooting" or something close (reboots too quick for me to see)
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

Gah, I misread the rule saying I couldn't post in a development related forum with less than 10 posts as being the entire device forum. I'll repost in the general section there. Thank you!
Right, might be wrong section, and completely sure this has been asked somewhere.
I am very keen, I just dont know where to start.
My 10.1v just decided to start screwing around. It is like it is frozen? With the screen off. Yet I can hear emails being received. And when I put it on charge, the screen goes on, yet it is in a frozen state (time stays the same) I have rebooted it a view times, no joy. So my idea is to wipe the thing, and reload the software. what does it entail? where do I start? I see all these terms, but not sure what they mean?
Please assist if I'm in the right section?
Cheers!
You're in the wrong section. This is for DEVELOPMENT only. Your post should go in the Q&A.
I'd say you can start by reading the sticky posts in the 10.1(v) dev forum.
Basic steps are:
1. Unlock the bootloader (read sticky carefully)
2. Root your device (read sticky carefully)
3. Install a ROM (verify partition and CWM)
mate check out this thread, make sure you have proper drivers in place and kies installed

good luck

Depends if you prefer a custom or a stock ROM, Custom ROM's usually have major custom changes, but the stock, yeah plain as ice.
I don't know if he want's to root it or if he has, since warranty get's void that way.
hi brothers. i live in turkey (i can't speak good english) and i have a samsung vibrant. someday, i want to flashing my phone of recovery mode and i did wipe data/cache/factory reset, after i did install zip from sdcard, update.zip (rom file) flashing but its be error and i putting internal card (another rom file in the internal card) of phone. but phone is not see the internal card. after i want to flashing of odin, but my computer is not see my phone... and i a go to the mechanic (he knows very) but he can't, and another mechanic but he's unable... what should I do?
First thing you should do is take English 101; then you should be a little more specific about what ROM you are running now and what ROM you are trying to flash. Here's a link to go back to stock if your phone doesn't load anything:

Hello Sir,
I can't install "I9100XWMS1_NeatROM_v5.4.2_Aroma.zip" on my Samsung galaxy sII I9100 in recovery mode.Cause i didn't find any option like instal rom SD.Here my mobile detail & recovery mode screen shot.
Please Help me to install This "9100XWMS1_NeatROM_v5.4.2_Aroma.zip" in my mobile.Thank you.
Um, you can't install it with Odin. Only with CWRecovery (you currently have stock recovery). You need to root your phone first. How ? Search. This has been asked/answered/covered/been done to death 108,961.358,023,196,082,475 times here over the past 2.5 yrs. However, as it's the start of a new week & I'm feeling generous, there's a thread stickied near the top of Q&A that has a very simple root method.
Also, I strongly recommend you go back & read the first page of the thread devoted to that rom slowly. I smell a broken phone coming on if you don't tread very carefully going forward.
Hi All,
My name is Ben, writing in from AUS this evening as I try to get past my boot menu!
I wanted to do a simple factory reset on my Samsung GS3, but wanting to be "smart" I thought I'd back up everything first using Titanium Backup, ie I had to root the phone. I read as much as I could and thought the safest method was using the Android Toolkit.
After getting over various obstacles (eg: bluestacks interrupting the toolkit), I followed the instructions and the Toolbox informed me I needed to restart the phone and use the program to change the stock recovery filenames as they were relucant to be shifted from the primary recovery. I went to restart the phone and it left me at the boot screen, and now I can't get past it.
The phone is a stock GS3 GT-I9305T running 4.3. I have backed up as much as I could without root, so hopefully that'll minimise what I'll lose?
Can I use the Toolkit to recover my software? Or should I use the factory reset option in the boot menu? Or just burn it and go live in a cave? Lol.
Thanks so much for your help.
Cheers,
Ben
Did you flash the correct file? You've posted in the i9300 q&a instead of the i9305 one.
Follow the sticky guide in general forum on how to flash with Odin, download the right firmware from sammobile.com. Afterward boot into recovery and factory reset.
To root use CF auto root, again read the sticky thread.

Thanks boomer for the reply,
I double checked the file in Odin, I was following the android toolkit instructions pretty carefully.
Is there any chance of recovering the original OS?
Nevermind, I strapped on my big boy boots and tried the factory reset, which instantly worked and now the phone is working again.
I'll get some help from a friend who's done it before with the rooting.
Cheers for the help!
Ben
