Being A Noob Sucks! - HTC Rezound

LOL. So I just got my new Resound rooted this morning by a guy that I know and I am looking to flash my first ROM. A nandroid has already been made. Coming from a rooted DX, this HTC format is a little different. Can you guys give me some recommendations on a good, stable ROM? Many thanks!

I was like you over a month ago. I've came from a heavily custom original Droid, to a Droid X2 to now the Rezound. The HTC method is really different, my recommendation would be to flash TwiZted SenZes. wildtang gives full instructions on what to do and they're very clear. Also his official website AndroidPassions.com features a "The Box" where you can chat live with developers and he'll help you most of the time if he's in. Please note that if you flash the new firmware to run ICS ROMs, you can't revert back to using Gingerbread ROM from what I hear. But ICS Roms are highly stable now since the last leak we had of an official Rezound leak. If you have any questions please ask...

use the "thanks" if I helped you at all

Wrong section, should only be posting threads here if you are a dev.
The current ICS leaks are nice, really can't recommend them until HTC fixes the kernel issues though. Of course everyone results vary.
I wouldn't flash the leaked ICS RUU either, there are work arounds for the most popular ROMs now.
Check out the list of ROMs at the top of this forum for ideas and post any questions in the Q&A section or the ROM thread if it's specific to that ROM.

I will try to save you some headaches. Make sure you use amon ra recovery. Do not use clockworkmod as many people have issues and if you let the battery die while cwm is installed you will have to find a new way to charge that battery or buy a new one. I have been a big fan of Scott's clean roms. It is mostly stock sense just cleaned up and smooth. Some of the others are a bit more themed to that developers liking. Scott has good instructions on his website. And make sure you read then reread the original post so you understand what to do, what works, and what may not work. Scotts clean Rom 4.3 is a great place to start and included is the patch for the old firmware. Then flash some of the others to see what you prefer. I am currently running BAMF sense 4.0 and it runs great but there are still some bugs to be worked out. You will pick it up quick as long as you read instructions first. Like someone else said ask if you have problems but just in the right forum. Happy flashing!

No problem, just giving you a heads up.

LOL i came from a rooted dx too, i used the cm7 release. I have a really useful tool to unlock your rezound, from there i would recommend a rom like cleanrom. It is really fast and stable. Enjoy!

Team Win Recovery is the recovery system that is being used. Does this mean I can go ahead and flash any rom?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA

So I looked into team win recovery and I'm sure it might work but have not heard anyone using it for the rezound. I suggest using amon ra ver 3.15. It can be found in the development section. Make a backup then flash away.

I love having the number in the battery icon. I saves me real estate on my screen by not having to install a 3rd party widget to tell me whats left. Anyway, look through the themes and app section but this may be the only person working on what your looking for. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551602 at the bottom of the OP you will see "To go back to the stock look for CleanROM 4.3. Flash this: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12286815/Cle...Flyhalf205.zip ". Not sure if it has the number in the icon. This is not my work all credit to flyhalf205 and who_mike_d so hit up some of their threads and give some thanks. This is only for CleanRom 4.3. If your on a different version you can find some older post if you look around.

CleanROM 4.3 has been rock solid for me, no issues at all. I didn't like the battery either so I flashed it with a battery mod found here:

Very happy with this combo so far.

Well now I'm having issues when I go back to recovery mode. I'm unable to select recovery, instead I am stuck with only choosing up or down volume for upgrade and then power to restart the phone... Also this rom has me set on 3G instead of 4G..

Delete the PH98IMG.zip from your SD card. That will get you back to recovery. Or you can send the adb command when you are connected to your computer
Code:

[Q] GB to ICS question

I've been following the posts of the new and older ICS roms and just have a few general ?'s regarding flashing a new rom.. I have been using Ineffabilis v1.3 for quite a while now and am completly satisfied with its performance but am itching to try another Rom. Seems like there's good and bad about both ICS and GB but seems its a PITA to have to relock the bootloader in order to get new radios or what not..this is where i get lost..i'm not new to flashing roms or kernels (had an Incredible and flashed roms like crazy) i just don't understand anything in regards to what the requirements are for ICS vs GB. I'd hate to brick my phone!! Any insight would be greatly appreciated.. THANK YOU in advance!!
I was in the same boat because I had never flashed an RUU before. Head over to Scott's ROMs and in his forums he has a step by step process laid out. I went through that after reading up on everything multiple times and it went fine. Back up everything you want from the phone, internal and external sd cards, to your PC BEFORE flashing the RUU. They will be wiped by the process.
Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for the info..ill definitely check it out!!

I did the whole re-lock bootloader and what not and it is totally worth it. Especially the dev version with AOSP. It isn't hard to upgrade to the 4.0 cleanroms, if you know what you are doing.
Everything is better in my opinion just miss small tweaks here and there.. is there a way to install custom fonts and is there an app that controls the individual volumes like ringer/notifications..seems like the ringer and notification volumes are combined which is annoying

New RUU ICS vs GB
I will chime in and say that it is definitely worth it. As said before in the CleanROM thread Scott has a very detailed step by step guide. Just a few pointers before you jump in.
1) make sure you have a card reader for your computer that you can connect your removable micro-SD card to. Trust me, if you screw up somewhere in the process, having a reliable way to access the SD card is a life saver.
2) before flashing always wipe/factory reset 3 times, some think it is overkill, but if you end up with some odd glitch or bug when you just wiped once, you will most likely have to wipe and flash again to get rid of the bug...so of course you are actually saving time and hassle by just doing it 3 times in the first place.
3) make sure your battery is full or almost full before you start the process, you will avoid many problems by not having your phone battery die in the middle of a flash or update.
4) read, read and read again all the information and the instructions on what you are going to be doing, then make sure you understand and are comfortable Before you actually start. Reading through the forums and knowing beforehand what others have experienced, and the fixes, will make your life 100% better while you play with your phone.
All that said, the new RUU is awesome, better radio reception, better battery life for most (once you drain and recharge a few times), and ICS is very cool on the Rezound. Happy flashing people and hope you like ICS as much as I do.

Root...then what??

Ok so I've had my HTC Amaze 4G for quite sometime. I'm new to the smart phone era. I've had a smart phone since April of 2011. The amaze makes my 3rd phone. I recently discovered rooting and have become very interested in doing this. I've read some how to's and what not. I'm wondering though if anyone has any suggestions as to which to Rom would best suit this device in a rooted state. Im no tech wizard. I'm a quick learner though and follow instructions well, so I Definately would appreciate the help. Please, and thank you.

there isn't any one "best" rom out there, it all depends on your taste man, do you want sense or not? if so which version? are you a benchmark freak? do you want Ice cream sandwich or Gingerbread?
honestly the first thing I do when i root my phone is get setCPU on there, although I've been using system tuner to great effect.
I'd use faux kernel as well, better battery life and overclockable if ya need the extra horsepower, but I noticed it breaks a few things like wifi tethering for me on a few roms (it seems to be only ones built around a non T-mobile base)?
after that its up to you, good luck!
Lol but seriously... Energy ROM is the best
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
I too use NRGZ Energy ROM. Everytime I flash a different ROM I always tend to revert back to Energy.
If the Sense 3.6 ICS ROM by Adjust was fully working i'd rock that. I tested it and that ROM flys! Too bad tho with all the drama that seems to revolve around him.
Ok ok. I've been hearing that the big issue with rooting the amaze is the s-off situation. I read a thread where someone mentioned successfully achieving this feat on an amaze with running an unlocked bootloader. As mentioned before...I'm super new to these terms and this process, so I've been having difficulty locating these instructions. I've been told to have someone do it for me, but I really want to learn these rooting skills for myself. I live that you guys have come up with ways to make our phones just that...OUR phones. Sorry for the noob questions...but I truly appreciate all of your help.
Read the Stickies on how to root. It's actually really easy to root this phone.
1. Unlock your bootloader.
2. Flash a recovery
3. Flash superuser for rooted stock or flash a custom Rom.
Of course there are preliminaries that must be done first. Like having ADB and the HTC USB Drivers.
Chuck Norris CAN touch MC Hammer!
s-off allows the user to flash a different boot.img (custom kernel) as well as different carriers' RUUs, you can still flash a boot.img without s-off but you'd need to use a program like the Easy Kernel Flasher. Regular ROM flashing isn't affected by s-off other than that
and am I the only one who doesn't like NRGZs Rom? I flip between One Good ROM and Stock

And i believe he had to remove all the recoverys so i recommend using this one http://androtransfer.com/xboarder56/HTC Amaze 4g/Recoverys/5.8.0.9/ph85img.zip after u unlock your bootloader, place that file on your external sd card. Turn off your phone, turn it back on holding down the volume down button to boot into bootloader. It will then ask if u want to install update, select yes. U will now have a custom recovery.

Future GB roms

I've been reading a lot of threads about the ups and downs of ics, I'm yet to flash it and might stay on gb for a little while especially since I've been reading threads were people have tried to go back to gb and weren't able to do to either user error or otherwise. I'm wondering if the gb development will lose support do to ics being out, I'm sure it will especially once ics becomes more stable across the board.

Dude, just flash ICS already. It's pretty freakin' sweet.
I find ICS alot more enjoyable than GB even if it's just a leak : it's stable enough to be a daily rom, and I work alot with my phone.

If you flash through Odin it formats your drive and no root. But it's not an issue to root it. However if you flash the.collectives basic build or dagr8 build through cwm you'll have.root, and it'll be debloated

What I am trying to say overall is that I have read about less issues with phones who did the following:
1) Install one click Odin Leak (reboot and let it all set up of course)
2) Install CWM Recovery via Odin
3) Flash Dag or Collective ICS ROM
These steps will give you all the components of ICS (including bootloaders etc), CWM, rooted and debloated.
There does seem to be one person who can't get back to GB after doing this. But there are multiple threads in the QA section which show otherwise. I have not tried going back to GB yet, as I am giddy every time I use my phone now. ICS has brought it to another level. No way I am ever looking back, especially with something from the Collective on the way.
I installed and rooted ICS very easily
now i wish i hadnt , My ICS is wayyyyyyyy to buggy for me, i get alot of FC's and reboots, wish i had waited and now want to go back to GB but im just going to wait out the bugginess till a more stable rom comes out. I can say when ICS is running good it is way smoother than GB but that isnt too often with me but good news is the collective has something cooking up and should only be a little bit before changing out this leaked rom !!!
just my $.02

forgive me for being a dumb a$$ but I'm slightly confused about the steps you posted. Wouldn't step 2 have to come first, and i thought the Odin one click was the ics rom (step 3)? Here's what I've done to my phone. Rooted, installed cwm and completed a cwm back up, i than downloaded ics from the picture in the dev section onto my phone. From this point would all i have to do is go into cwm and flash my downloaded ics and would that sort of be your 1,2,3 steps? Sorry for not fully understanding.

So I want to install a ROM...

I am currently running Cleanrom GBE 1.7.5, and I want to install an ICS rom; any suggestions on that front would be appreciated.
A larger problem is that I honestly have no idea how to go about installing a new rom. I installed Cleanrom back in late March, and didn't really give it another thought. Thanks to the excellent primer post, I know my terminology, but I don't know which terms apply to my phone.
For example, S-OFF/S-ON. I don't know which state my device is in nor how to check.
I know I never poked any paperclips in the back, but I did have to register on some HTC website to get a specific key for my device (and subsequently lost the text file)
Basically, could someone
1. Suggest a good ROM
2. Give me a summary of how to proceed with installing it.
Thanks!

Note 2 newb just unlocked

Hi guys, I am very new to the Note 2. I just unlocked and rooted the latest ota using Casual. Thanks to Adam Outler and everyone else involved. So my question is which ROMs are compatible with this ota? Basic question I'm sure. I came from the Razr and the kernel had to match so I assume its the same here? Anyone willing to shed some light on this for me would be greatly appreciated.

Any rom you want as long as it is in the VZW Note 2 threads can be flashed ours arent locked down by what update we are on because our bootloader is unlocked where it isnt on Moto phones. AOSP roms require AOSP kernels as TW roms require TW kernels. The roms come with kernels though so that isnt something tk worry about unless you I want to.
The only thing to remember is if you go to a 4.2 rom and want t I go back to 4.1 you have to flash a downgrade zip so your SD card doesnt become corrupted. You can find the downgrade zip in the Official CM 10.1 thread in the OP.
Check out Droidstyles guide in Android Development, its a sticky, it explains quite a bit and would ne helpful to you I think.

Thanks for the info. Exactly the answers and info I was looking for. I just flashed CleanROM and went through the flashing process. When it got to the end and said finish to reboot it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Couldn't get to recovery or download mode. I had to pull the battery and then turn it on. It went straight to the new ROM though without a hitch. Is that a normal part of the flashing procedure on the N2? The battery pull I mean, or did I miss something?

Thats not a normal thing to happen, but it does happen occasionally. As long as it boots up after the battery pull I wouldnt be too worried by it. I have had it happen to me before and after the battery pull I experienced no issues whatsoever.

CleanROM's good. It was the first ROM I flashed when I got my Note II too.
Eventually though, you may want to switch to something more feature-rich like Jelly Beans, which is what I'm rocking now. The features it adds are pretty awesome and you get full touchwiz functionality (S-Pen and the like) with the look of AOSP.
DL'ing Jelly Beans now. Gotta make a new TiBu before flashing though. Will give it a go shortly. My wife fusses at me sometimes cause on my old phone (Razr) and on this one I am always flashing different ROMs. She especially hates it when she calls and my phone goes directly to voicemail cause I am in recovery flashing a ROM or kernel.

Hi all, I'm feeling like a n00b on the Note too, and really appreciate the help all of you seem to be willing to share with each other. I'm not new to modding phones, recently I've been through an S3, DNA, RAZR HD and M, and even another Note 2. I made the mistake of swapping the Note 2 for an iPhone 5, and regretted it about thirty seconds later. Now that's my wife's phone, and due to the grace of another (local) xda member, I'm back rockin' the Note 2. This time around in looking forward to getting into some serious flashing and tweaking to get the most from the hardware. I've decided this is Verizon's best phone at the moment, with everything I need.
Don't worry, you're not alone in having a wife who gets annoyed at flashing and tweaking. Happens to me all the time, but I use the excuse it's one of the few hobbies that I have which doesn't involve the rest of the family and I need a bit of alone time. It kind of works as an excuse until the point where I need to use it again.
I'm looking forward to being part of this community and wanted to say hello.

I like jedi X rom...I got 3 days off my battery with just the right settings...my recommendation is to not mess with the per app dpi for the settings app because now I'm stuck without a settings app and about to switch roms...just about any rom will work as long as it's for your carrier... Best of luck!

Beans is the best! photosphere camera (page 1 of forum) works great with build 16! Check it out! Also, I agree about Jedi: definitely magic battery settings. Enjoy your new hobby! My wife is the same way.
