Hi there,
Are there any Dutch people who have flashed their Xperia S to .73?
I'm on KPN, Phone software version 1252-0023_6.0.A.3.67, Cust version 1257-1995. Version .67
It was originally delivered with .62 and updated to .67.
Now I've heard the .73 software is more better in battery usage. So are there any of you that flashed their original ROM to the .73 software?
And what are the advantages etc.?
Now that title is very misleading

Anyway, yes. I use the Singapore variant now with root. No problems with it. Also kpn, but the phone is not kpn branded ofcourse, bought it from marktplaats. Everything is running wel, before flashing, read the instructions carefully, than nothing can go wrong. Biggest pro is the battery for sure.

I'm on vodafone but I couldn't wait so I downloaded a rom and flashed it with flashtool. It's working perfect, battery is much better..
Battery is indeed much better.
Generic NL does have all the specific features you might need (national roaming, ...) and already has .73 available (I flashed it a few days ago using PC Companion).
You can download the Generic NL .67 FTF here, you don't have to delete userdata to flash it. Afterwards, you can just update it to .73 using PC Companion or SEUS!

Thank you guys. I already flashed .73 NL Generic on my XS, downloaded from the XDAserver. So no more KPN branded ROM.
And indeed, overall speed and battery seems much better!
I flashed the first minutes when it came out.

Those T-mobile goatfokkers! Before I went to the KPN-shop to get my xperia, I firstly went to T-mobile and informed if the ROMs on Xperia S were branded. They said no, they weren't.
Luckey for me too.
The main thing is, if you bought by KPN, the ROM is Branded, but it still have its Xperia logo and normal apps you have in the NL Generic.
AND
The updates from KPN will come a bit later than the NL Generic (e.g. bought from CoolBlue, PhoneHouse etc.)
Here are the differences in ROM on XDA server http://www.xdafileserver.nl/index.php?dir=Sony+(Ericsson)/SE+Xperia+S+(LT26i)

Hi neighbours
My XS is in today
If I want to use flashtool, rooting is nescessary?
New at this, when I'm sure that it has to be rooted, I will check the dev threads for the next steps.
Flashed and rooted to .73 Singapore a couple of weeks ago.
Works well!

I'm sure I read somewhere that 1.6 does not support Bluetooth HID such as keyboards.
Unless I am mistaken, you should wait a few days until 2.1 is released and try then.

With Telstra, although i debranded from x10a to x10i, the general forums say im on the correct firmware, will try unlocking the phone and using my other sim cards. I didnt really care about android over9000 firmware update until now, want my Hd recording, 16m colors and bluetooth 2.1 HID DAMMNIT.
There is an app for it. There is an app that allows you to connect a BT keyboard to the x10/android 1.6 phone.
I've tried it my self, and it worked. But I normally use it with my computer instead.
I can't quite remember the name. But it was a bit trublesome to use it imo.
But it does work!
All I remember is that I searched for BT HID or something in the Market.
If you want to be able to use enter/space etc.. youl'l need to pay for the app.

My expectations of getting 2.1 are by Q3 2011, we have already been delayed 6months and im still on 014 so by the time its ready for my carrier it wont be til atleast december. i read somewhere that 2.1 would be coming out sometime this week OTA for areas with the majority of SE users.

Depends how impatient you're feeling!!.. I had absolutely no intention of rooting etc.. but got fed up of the lack of info so I followed the simple upgrade method.. rooted using the one click root app on my phone.. changed the default prop values as per the thread instructions and plugged into SEUS.. bingo.. 2.1...
Rooting the 2.1 was a bit trickier though (want to go to UK Generic when it's out)..
all i get from sony when asked is *******There are still tests which need to be carried out on generic versions to ensure they meet UK laws & regulations.*******
Surely the global version is still subject to UK laws etc if its being used in the UK. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being rooted and does it affect my warranty? Thanks for all the advice really good for a nooby discovering the world of a real OS

Factory reset will only reset current firmware. You need to get the 1.6 flash tool from the development section and install the 1.6 firmware back onto device. REMEMBER use 1.6flash tool not 2.1 flash tool.

Whoops, looks like I missed this topic and replied to another one instead. I'll repost here because it's more appropriate to this thread.
This release is the second release of the 2.3.4 firmware, right? I ask because I installed the Generic UK 2.3.3 firmware to my Google I/O R800a months ago and received the second 2.3.3 OTA update bringing it up to 4.0.A.2.368 about a month before the version for the North American R800a dropped. By all indications at the time, the UK firmware was getting updates out way faster.
But now this has been released and I still haven't seen anything come up for OTA or through PC Companion or SEUS. It makes me wonder if I should just flash back to the Generic North American R800a ROM with this.
Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks!
Weird. When I plug my phone into my computer PC Companion tells me there is an update for my phone (the version that this thread is about). If I search for software update in the phone it says I am up to date. I'm on 2.3.4 now (4.0.1.A.0.283) which I believe is the UK generic version.
The .283 is the Nordic 2.3.4

So I've been loving this FW to death... except for one aspect.
BLOATWARE IS OFF THE ****ING CHARTS!
As if all the other expected stuff wasn't enough, now they're forcing Google Books, Video Unlimited, like 3 different "Get Games" things, LiveWare, a bunch of Facebook integrated stuff, OfficeSuite and PlayNow... and versions of Flash/Facebook/Youtube that can't be removed or moved to SD... holy ****.
Madden, Star Batallion, FIFA and Bruce Lee are also being forced... but I don't mind that much. I like all those games (still wouldn't mind having the option to move that stuff to SD).
The most annoying part is that if I uncheck Automatic Updates, it'll just re-check themselves and slam all those updates on my phone storage when I'm sleeping or something. That's pretty high up there on the "**** move"-o-meter.
Even still though... this ROM has been amazing... like 250MB free natively... 720p recording, xLoud... screen caps... but if someone could modify this ROM and kill off all that crap, I'd be in heaven.

lol I found out about the zergRush method roughly two minutes after I posted that bloatware rant.
Happily rooted, and about to tweak some things to perfection. I don't necessarily want to kill off all the bloatware... I just want it off my goddamn phone storage
IIRC, I can just go straight into the system/app folder and every apk I delete from there uninstalls the app, right? I've been on stock 2.3.3 so long I've forgotten.
Do you need an unlocked bootloader for this, or can you use it if the bootloader is still locked?
