Hi all.
I've just joined this Forum, because I think my Qtek 1010 is a great device, which I want to use as wide as possible though I am a non-tech. I saw this Forum and I am very impressed and amazed of all what's going on here. I can clearly see that there is a lot to learn about my device and I also realize that people posting here knows A LOT about PDA's. But I hope reading all the great topics will help me better understand what happens inside my PDA and maybe even make me able to do things myself.
I would like to upgrade my Qtek from PPC2002PE to PPC2003PE. Having read the warnings about upgrades I am a little confused and also afraid to screw up. My device has ROM version 3.14.06.ENG, Radio version T313 and Protocol version 32S54. So far it has never been updated before. I bought it in Denmark, where no updates are available.
I would really appreciate if someone has detailed step by step (as I saw another user call "dumbass") suggestions on what to do (right versions of ROM and Radio versions etc....).
Sincerely,
Luffe
Ok here you go!
Updating your Qtek ROM using the 'SD Card' or 'Bootloader' Method
http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1717
Just ignore the radio updates unless your carrier issues one for your device. For a ROM upgrade, find the link to Jeff's Kitchen and create yourself a PPC 2003 custom ROM in .exe form, download it, and run it with the device in the cradle. Simple as that.
You will, of course, lose all data on the device. DO NOT restore a full backup. You can selectively restore non-system files and data.
Ok gang i have been lurking around for a while and im finally deciding to upgrade my phone. for my short background, i have done this on my old magician (once) and a friends t-mobile magician (once) as well, but now i want all the new gadgets and speed for my hermes. for the record i am currently a Cingular/ATT customer living in Orlando, FL where there is great 3G coverage.
here is what i have:
herm100
ipl 1.01
spl 1.06
ROM version 1.34.502.1
ROM date 09/21/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Protocol version 32.53.70.18.01H (i am not sure what this one means though...)
here is what i am planning to do (in the exact order of which i will run them so if my order isnt right please tell me):
HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a
Hard-SPL-V7.rar package
HERM_Radinly_1.43.00.00_CustomRUU.rar (unless anyone thinks the 46 or 47 version would be better for ATT in my area)
Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v2.0_ATT.rar
CVSD_1.2_061226.rar
HomePlugIn_1.6.0.0.rar
vp3G_v2.0_CommManager.rar *edit* (yes i know the comm manager must be closed for this one too) *edit*
vp3G_v2.0_StreamingMedia_PATCH.rar
XM_Radio.rar (may install this later)
MobiTV .rar (may install this later)
TCPMP_v0.72RC1.exe
ac3.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
flac.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
ffmpeg.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
vorbislq.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
and that should be it i hope!!!! also, i think i remember needing a codec to play xvids through tcpmp but i cannot find anything that i have archived on my computer... so if anyone has that please let me know.
if there are any other precautionary measures that i can take PLEASE let me know. i 'somewhat' understand how the hardspl works, is that the only protection i have? should i clear up my phones memory? i doubt there is anything like a 'scandisk' or anything for the type of memory the phone uses but i just want to be 1000000% sure that this flash will be successful thats all. thanks guys up front for a great community and any help is GREATLY appreciated.
yeah, do HardSPLv7 first... Then do the Unlocker... then do whatever you want.

No do the unlocker first...it loads HardSPL (1.40.oli) onto the device....it will downgrade the SPL if you run it second.
Once that is done...load HardSPLv7 onto it.
Then follow the list you said.
great!! i just wanted to verify that my particular build (i know there are herm100, 200 and 300 now) would fit the bill.
few more quick q's...
if i ever wish to, can this phone be put back to factory settings and be completely untraceable, or am i making permanent changes to the spl?
also as far as i am aware, overclocking is not available (hopefully i can use the word 'yet' here ) for my device is this correct?
lastly- without outlook (on my computer), is there any way to back up my contacts. not just the sim card, i mean email addresses and everything? i am sure there are some encrypted files somewhere on the device that i can just manually copy and paste when i am done.
and after that, ill be flashing it all over and post the results.. and thanks both of you for the quick responses!!! i will do the unlocker first, thanks for deterring me from that hiccup

OK.....i will answer these qs but you do need to read the wiki so you DEFINATLY understand the different aspects of the hermes...
The device can be downgraded to normal (like factory settings)....see the guides in my sig for more info.
Overclocking....dont even bother...the restriction is in the ROM....later ROMs use the cpu much better.
If you want to backup contacts etc...either use PIMBackup (search this forum for it) or get an exchange account which will sync contacts/emails/tasks etc..
the IPL is still 1.01, can this be upgraded or does it not make a difference?
ok i am trying to run Hard-SPL-V7...
when i run the file 'RUUWrapper' on my mobile device i get this message:
"File or assembly nme 'System, Version 2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089,' or one of its dependancies, was not found."
I just installed microsoft.net framework 2.0
from what the previous screens told me, the SIM and CID unlock was successful and my current IPL is 1.4 from using the programs in 'HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a.rar'
please help!!!!!
**edit**
Sorry, that is when i try to run it from the phone itself. when i run it on the computer it says 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

You need to install ALL the latest .net framework packages from Microsoft on your PC, the file is meant to run on your pc NOT your hermes.
you guys are the best and so is this site!!!
last question...
i downloaded the 'vp3G's WM6 v2.0' ROM and added the patch for 'vp3G_v2.0_StreamingMedia_PATCH.cab ' but i still cannot watch videos on youtube or any site of the likes? the page gives me an error saying 'Hello, you either have Javascript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.'
i cannot find java or macromedia that works on windows mobile... what can i use??? i am finding some stuff on javaME but nothing i can comprehend or download...
lol, when I tried to do the Unlocker first it temp-bricked my phone.. I had to reflash old rom, then run hardspl then the unlocker in that order.
Use google and search for 'Flash Player for Pocket PC'
it will give you the link to Adobe Flash Player
I allreyd flashed a lot and did use a soft spl, but I do not find a proper
explanation what it is.
So, i Think it is the Bootloader ?
Can anyone tell me what a soft and a hard SPL is and does ?
For what do I need it ?
I just got my new Touch Pro bought in UK and now it is here in Germany and I want a german ROM on it as soon as it is available.
Please don´t write your standard answers like WIKI and Search - a forum is here for communication and I did not find the proper answers - only too long threats

Yep your right on that assumption sir The bootloader does alot of the low level handling of the startup process when you power on the device aswell as handling the process when you flash anything to the device...im sure its far more technical than that but thats a starter explanation Essentially you NEED a bootloader for the device to work at all, the case with many of the HTC devices...other devices are different most likely.
Soft SPL: (normally referred to as SSPL) IS loaded into RAM and allows you to perform some of the operations the standard bootloader would do, naturally with some extra functionality (explained later)
HardSPL: Same sort of thing except it is flashed to the device permenantly, so it replaces the HTC bootloader in your devices flash memory.
Both of these tend to safeguard against corrupting the device by having some fancy workarounds and updates to the processes built into the HTC SPL, and the best part is that they allow you to flash ANY ROM you wish therefor allowing us to use Cooked ROMs and various updates like radio updates and etc...frees the device up quite superbly.

Perhaps some mebers feel like adding a general HardSPL page to the wiki for FAQs like this to be answered better than "Search the forum.." since we know its not that good for finding anything.
The Wiki is there for everyone to use and edit so, learn and pass it on
Just a quick question, does any of this interfere with HTC released updated ROMs? Like, when they release a new version on their site, does having HardSPL prevent you from updating?
Hello !
Thank you for your advise.
One more question:
Should I install Hard or Soft SPL ?
I want to try out many ROMS - I think Hard is better, what do you mean ?
Thank you for your help
By the way:
I am a kind of technican - working in IT for nearly 18 years starting fron Novell, Banyan Vines and DOS up to Windows Vista. Also I am a kind of apple Guru, thats why I have certainly an iPhone 2G and 3G.
For business I use HTC devices sind the first MDA. But I lost track a little sind iPhone.
As I am a technic nerc I sstarted with th the Diamond touch again and I liked the device but i swapped this week to the touch pro because of the keyboard, SD Slot an flash light. I love this device.
By the way I also have the new Samsung Omnia 900 here and an unfun Nokia E71 ( I hate this old symbian - looks like last centuty )
So good night and thank you

no, raphael hardspl is unsigned, means any rom is allowed, including HTC official roms.

you can only install hardspl. the job of soft spl is to install hardspl.
do not ever try any of the following:
- with SSPL, do not flash anything other than the included SPL NBH files. as extra protection the diamond and raphael SSPL's require htchacker sign (except the version jocky edited) and will reject anything that's not an SPL.
- and do not ever try to flash SSPL as an NBH, especially if it is a diamond or raphael.
Im sorry to disagree with your "don't tell me to use the Wiki".
But this is a fairly comprehensive answer to your question: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions? straight out the wiki.

There are several things.
UC is short for User Customisation; it is in all the Kaiser ROM's nowadays. l3v5y's Raph ROMs also have it.
Links: l3v5y's ROMs & Main UC Thread.
I use UC to install programs, Provisioning XML (as part of UC) to change registry settings, my xcopyce application to copy folders and active sync to copy contacts, calender etc.

Ok, thanks. Seems very complicated. Having to write XML files and such.
when running RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe, it says all information will be lost on my device. Are you sure i dont lose everything when installing Hard-SPL?

I can't say. I haven't done it, what says you will lose all the info, the RUU or the thread? If it's the RUU, then you should be OK, it's probably the standard message that the proper RUU (used for carrier ROM upgrades) has.
UC is good, takes maybe an hour or two to get setup, but once done, you don't have to do it again and it makes flashing so much fun. I started with just installing CAB's and Copying files, then went onto ProvXML for my registry settings next. The latest version of Schap's Advanced Config (3.0) can export tweaks into a Prov XML file for you. It is worth it if you flash your ROM as often as I do.
Dave
I do love this kind of stuff. Any new gadget i get, i like to do this kinda stuff with it. But its a little overwhelming in this case .
So, using UC, i can set it up so that my settings, such as email accounts, wifi networks + passes, notify settings, etc, as well as all the programs are restored after a ROM flash?
To do this i have to manually go through my registry to find the entries for each of these settings though? No way to just extract my current unflashed devices settings to a file that the new ROMs then use? That would be nice

We are getting a little off topic of the OP now but...
Any tweaks done with schaps Advanced Config can be easiler exported using a "export" menu option.
If you export your registry after flashing, and again after you have all your settings setup right, you can Diff then using a Diff Program and copy the changes into your ProvXML file. Most PPC Regedit programs can export.
Any more on UC, I'd have a read of the UC thread and ask any questions in there. Myself and l3v5y keep and eye on it most of the time and should be able to help fairly quickly.

Is it possible to use those backup softwares? Like Spb Backup for example that say "ROM Upgrade Mode — now it's possible to restore data after the ROM upgrade"? Instead of UC and such?
there is a IPL initial program loader (sort of bios)
a SPL secondary program loader (kinda like the ntloader)
and there is a service mode (3 color screen) (the flashprog)
then we have a RUU remote unit upgrader
mft masterfile table
mbr master boot record
and some other shizzle
the device switches the output of the internal usb when device is in 3 colorscreen to a service mode which allows it to overwrite the internal flashdrive .. pretty neat as what it actually does is switching to an internal flashprogrammer which programs the internal flashdrive. this is the same process as is used for your pc at home to update the bios.
the CID celloperator identification code (used for blocking certain rom upgrades)
enjoy..
Soft SPL quesiton
I have a SPV M700 and it's unlocked. I want to install Schaps rom. I have the folowing SPL version 1.07.000. I have't managed to install hard spl. Can I use soft spl to flash it? Can I permanently brake it?
Hello guys,
just to inform you that an update is available....
It is not yet flashable to our HD2 (error code - wrong registry) but I am sure the cooks will be able to fix it in no time.
According to Microsoft Windows Phone blog, this update will enhance the updating experience for future update, without giving much details.
What’s in this update?
This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search.
In the future, I encourage you to check out our new update history page on the Windows Phone website for a brief, plain-English summary of what each update does or what features it adds to your phone.
hmmmm...any idea what that update is for??any news??and is it safe to flash on our hd2??

i tried to update my HD2, but at last i got error!! somthing with backup!
Well at least Xboxmod and the rest of the Devs will now be able to cook up this new update.
So folks you will just have to wait until its done, as you cannot update unless you have a real HD7 phone.

mmmmm i think the clue is in post # 1 ? or maybe you dont bother to read!!!!
You cannot update a LEO70. Only a real HD7 phone.... So flash to your hearts content.
You are all going to have to wait until the Dev's do an update to the LEO7 roms etc etc.
Are these better updates automatic? If so, would they break a custom rom on HD2?
This is just an update to update the updater... Seriously.
I tried and has been well documented. update fails but did no damage to my rom... so, no harm no foul...
I actually hesistated to even update the Zune software... let alone try to update my HD2. I thought MS may block us out some how.

I have done both, the phone restarted a couple of times and then said it could not be updated because of a registry error. Of course, it couldn't but I was foolish enough to try.
After the update failure everything was back to what it was (nothing changed) and, YES, I could still access the marketplace. I think if MS wanted to block us they could have done it already, probably through our IMEI.
I mean the update process was started 'cause it 'saw' the phone as HD7, it even created a back up, downloaded new files and then it stopped and returned everything to its original state.
I think there is no problem with 'detecting'.
Update on the update...
I'm not sure if this is the right place but does this mean an update is available to change my i-Phone to WP7???
Jokes,
Seriously, on the phone update, zune gives an error code
"80180089", and a message that it cannot update
"because your phone registry settings are incorrect"...
DFT, XBoxMod and all the rest of you brilliant chefs out there, does this mean we can update with a few minor (or major) registry changes or does it need a proper cooking??
Edit:
Just searched and found this on the WP7 Pre-update update to allow a better update experience
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/38712/samsung-omnia-7-broken-update
it seems it may have fncked your phone if you had been able to update, so we're all winners here!!
The update seems to be for hd7 only, I have a Mozart aswell as HD2 and no update is available for that.

I met with MS Mobile reps last week, they confirmed that copy/paste will be in the next big update but nothing about tethering. When I asked specifically they said the ability to do this is there, some phones I guess you have an option by entering a code at startup. ??? They sais this is more of a carrier thing. I think that means carriers don't want it as it cuts down on their data card sales.

Hello,
I used my NL920 with Portico update and I didn't encountered problems with it like is "black screen of dead";
all the apps were normal and the live tile updates for the apps and for the system worked like charm.
After the Amber was available for my phone wasn't available the OTA update; even after a month ))))
So I download the firmware by it's original product code via NCS and I flashed it.
I saw all the new features with camera, calls blacklist, fm radio etc but in the same time the problems came out:
live tiles doesn't work anymore, the browser can't open new tabs on some sites, forums; the browser can't remember the username and the pass like was in previous version; the update for the operating system (storage checker and all the others) doesn't work anymore.
Any idea how to solve this issue because is very annoying;
should I have to write another firmware in my phone like the developer version or other?
My original rom is unbranded german rom.
Thanks!

live tiles doesn't work anymore, the browser can't open new tabs on some sites, forums; the browser can't remember the username and the pass like was in previous version; the update for the operating system (storage checker and all the others) doesn't work anymore.
Any idea how to solve this issue because is very annoying;
should I have to write another firmware in my phone like the developer version or other?
My original rom is unbranded German rom.
Thanks!

Your Phone must be disconnected from PC during these steps.
Go to the Folder option and Uncheck these options.
(I use windows 8.1 so this options exist in all type of windows, maybe just slightly different)
1-Show hidden files and folders or drives
2-Hide protected operation system files
Then go to :
C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-821
( Attention: rm-821 or rm-820 depends on your phone) mine is 821.
Check if there is Rom and Firmware files over there, rm-821 folder must be around 1.23 GB.
If yes then you need Nokia Care Suit (2012.45.4.5)
Attention : older versions does not support Lumia 920
Download it from : HERE
after installation go for : C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Application Launcher\bin
and click on "ApplicationLauncher.exe" from opened application choose "Product support tool for store 5.0"
In the new opened page go to:
Files - Open product and choose your Lumia 920 (Attention: be careful on your RM, if you have rm-820 or rm-821)
A red Lumia 920 will appear.
Down there you may see "Programming" open it and choose "Recovery"
it should automatically find your ROM from mentioned folder above.
it should be something like: 059R*** RM-821 VAR *** 3047.0000.1326.2002
Press start and follow the instruction ... DONE
My NCS version is 2013.38.3.2. Lumia 920 RM-821. Haven`t used it yet though but it seems compatible.

But I already flashed my phone via NCS with Amber update;
The flashfiles folder is in c/ program files/ nokia/ phoenix/ products/ rm-821;
I made this path for the flashfiles because all other products are there installed.
Also I modified the path in the NCS.
You tell me that I need to flash it ONLY with the version 2012.45.4.5 ?
I'm using Xp sp3 on my pc and the version of NCS I don't remember right now but I think is higher than the version that you mentioned..
I'll check tomorrow when I'll be at the office and I'll reply.
Thanks!

Phoenix?
in XP i think the ROM is in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-821
Maybe you downloaded ROM from unofficial page, is not it?
If yes, please use NCS [go to download option enter product code , exactly as your device is] then NCS will download it for you.
Attention: Did you changed you product code recently?
if you unlock your phone you will be able to change product code. did you do that?
if yes please recover your product code to original state.
Before doing this please backup your rm-821 folder save it as zip then:
go to .....Nokia\Packages\Products . stay in product folder and delete everything inside the product folder.
then try to download your rom from NCS
and yes when you download NCS 2012, it says there is update for your NCS, about 140 MB i think !!!
let it update.
Sorry but why you have phoenix ? I do not thing that's a true installation path !!!
better to uninstall your unofficial Nokia software and Note that remove all folder about Nokia in appdata and program files
both of them:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia (C:\Program Files\Nokia )
C:\ProgramData\Nokia
or in xp
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia
Flashing a different Color ROM also may cuz bugs in your phone (eg: installing Lumia Red Color on Lumia White) plz be careful about product code.
Your ROM indexes must show as what wrote on Lumia Box (eg: you will see something as : this product made for Netherland and has 2 year warranty or guaranty in this country ) it means your phone has EU brand.
if BOX and installed ROM is different then your product code changed.
any more question? please ask...
Regards
