[Q] corrupted nandroid - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i made a nandroid and when i went to use the backup i had a /system error. it was corrupted or something. i installed jokersax atrix cm9 rom after i backedup
exact error is "error while restoring /system!" (cwm)
*this is the nandroid specs*
system version = 4.5.141.mb860.att.en.us
model= mb860
android version=2.3.6
baseband = n_01.77.37p
webtop (not that i care) =wt-1.2.0-110_oly-6
kernel=2.6.32.9 [email protected] #2
build#=4.5.141

Far as i know you are SOL with your backup. I always verify after backup cos that's happened to me a couple of times. Had a restore fail even when I verified it. I keep more than one nandroid backup now.
Try restoring again, otherwise have to start from scratch me thinks.

Did you by chance rename any if your Nandroid backups? If the md5 doesn't match the file name it made, it won't work.

I no why this happens its because your backup for system is over 290mb I no because I've had the same thing happen to me and if my system backup is over 290mb it won't flash and comes with the same error while restoring /system!"

So how do you fix it
sent from my Atrix 4g using tapatalk 2

The way I fixed it was to extract the system.ext3.tar with 7zip and copy apps and framework to xUltimate and deodex it then a moved the deodex apps and framework back to the system.ext3 folder then tar them up with 7zip the the last thing you have to do is download a freeware MD5 program and genarate a MD5 check sum move the system.ext3.tar back to the folder were you toke it from and then edit nandroid.md5 and edit this line
Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx system.ext3.tar
With the MD5 you got from the freeware program that you downloaded and save

I tried your method, but I'm stuck at the xUltimate part it keeps telling me "UNEXPECTED TOP-LEVEL EXCEPTION", Man, I'm it's really getting on my nerves and am considering using RSD lite and risking a hard brick

MD5 mismatch?

When I try to restore certain backups in CWR it says MD5 mismatch. Wat causes thus? It seems to be the name.
Note: I'm not altering the number sequence. Just adding to the end.
Is it cuz I use numbers or wat?

I had a few instances of this happening before and when I opened the .md5 file located in the nandroid backup folder and actually ran the md5sum myself I got a mismatch. I don't recommend changing the .md5 file to the correct md5sum.
To check it yourself, use terminal:
Code:
cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/<path to nandroid>/
cat nandroid.md5
md5sum *.img
There you can see if there are discrepancies.
Awesome. This forum's become soooo essential to me. Tundra 4the help.

Im having the same issue. If i rename a backup in RM and then try to reflash it, I always get MD5 mismatch. So whats the solution?
yo, i found a solution that worked for me:
just rename the the folder to its original tittle fx. "2011-06-30.15.21.11"
and then try restore again !
MD5 checks the integrity of the entire file.....you change something (even the name of the folder) and the MD5 checksum will fail.....I never rename my nandroids, nor any .zips I flash....I've never downloaded anything from here that was named in such a way that I wouldn't know what it was....

I'm calling foul on this one. I have renamed my folders for over a year without issue. Only had one problem recently with updating to CM7 on DroidX (using new 2nd init recovery). As long as there are no spaces in the folder name it works fine.
Read somewhere before that not enough space on your sd card may cause MD5 errors. I always thought recovery might have to 'unpack' the files somewhere to restore and if there's not enough space then it would produce an error. I have not tested this out myself.
md5's are stored for each .img not for the entire folder. As someone else said, I've been renaming backups for about 18 months on devices. As long as you don't include spaces (if renamed with RM it should warn you of this) you're fine. Chars like "- . _" are fine just no spaces.

[Q] recovery not working and some files missing may be ?????

i am using cynogenmod 7 on my sgs2 i backed up my rom via cwm recovery
i need to recover because all of my contacts were wipped and my pc crashed and had to format it so i lost the backup of my all contacts

1- ".android_secure.vfat.tar " it is 605mb
2- "boot.img" it is 8mb
3- "data.ext4.tar" 887mb
4- "system.ext4.tar" 482mb
and wen i try to restore it shows md5 file missing and i have seen the posts which are there so i also tried it in terminal emulater i used the given commands but it did not work it said not found i tried adb shell it said not found
then at first su
it worked it gave me"#" this sign then again i did adb shell it showed again not found then i did the cd given codes in that also it said not found please help me
ps: i am new to all this so please help and please be as simple as u can
thank you in advance

just save as .txt then change the extension to md5 using file explorer or similar.
if you long press on a file in file explorer it should popup with some options. Select rename and change the extension from txt to md5

Renamed Nandroid backup, can't restore

So, I wanted to rename my Nandroid backup folder name so it could be easier to know which file is what. However, I didn't knew this was going to cause MD5 mismatch problem.
So, there is anyway to me to recover my backup folder name and restore my backup?
EDIT: Forget i. I just had to put no spaces between the letters.

If it happens again all you have to do is change de md5 values in the file nandroid.md5 (located in the backup folder) with the correct values for each file.
But only do that if you are sure that the backup files are not corrupted.

In case anyone finds this off a search, I had the same problem. If manually rehashing the .img files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114) doesn't work, make sure the folder name you used doesn't have spaces. I renamed the folder with underscores, problem was fixed.

First be sure there are no spaces when you renamed the file. Then you can check out this post on repairing md5 sum errors. I think they get corrupted when copied from PC to phone.

You have to rename the file back to its original name.

First off, don't rename a cmw backup... trust me, if you rename the zip it will cause an md5 mismatch when you try and restore and that always tends to happen when ya need it most.
Second the file you are looking for is either on your SD or your internal storage, the file si called clockworkmod or something like that, inside you will see a file labled backup. Delete as you will, but I always tend to transfer said files onto my pc and title an individual folder for each file, there for eliminated the irritation of md5 mismatch.

That's what I'm sayin . There is no clockwork mod folder. I do have it installed though. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that would mismatch the md5

You should be able to restore the folder , by booting into recovery , and running a new backup.
This will force place a new backup file to the SD card in the proper location.
If this does not work , or the backup fails to run, you must reflash the recovery using Odin ....g
you are using cwm and not twrp right? if using twrp the backups are in folder named twrp on internal or external which ever one you specified when backing up.
/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup
/sdcard/external_sd/clockworkmod/backup
Are you rooted?
Are you on a stock-based rom and not a CM-based rom?
