[Q] Subtitles keep showing up?

Hello everyone,
I try to play either avi or mkv. It plays awesome! Really, no problems so far!
But, the thing is...i watch movies with subtitles(Greek to be exact) and I get the following:
When someone says something and after the dialog there is a dialog pause( meaning that nobody speaks, there are no dialogs etc) it keeps showing the latest sentence.
If anyone understands what I'm saying, that's pretty good
So, my point: Is there a way to fix this? so that it displays the subtitles only in dialogs and not all the time?
Sorry for noobish question
PS: I use the default player (since it's playing everything and has some neat features like brightness, sub delay etc)
I had some issues as well but MoboPlayer and Rockplayer solved it for me, maybe you want to look in to those apps instead of the default
I see...If you the issue where subtitles show up as symbols, it's not the players fault! just change the encoding in the subs from "ANSI" to "Unicode"
Other than that, playback is awesome! really! that's why I'm asking!!!!
Hi, Kostask11, apparently there are very few that have this problem. I have it myself even with english-only subtitles. Specifically, the subtitles are in .srt format (tried .sub as well, but no improvement), ANSI-encoded (tried, for the fun of it, Unicode as well, but nothing), and as far as I know there is nothing wrong with the files themselves (extracted directly from the DVD).
It seems as if the media player cannot read the end-times for each text-line. I am using rooted 2.3.3 firmware at the moment, but had the same problem from the very beginning with the stock firmware, and I wonder if this were resolved in 2.3.4. Can anyone using 2.3.3 test their media player to verify that everything is ok?? I find it hard to believe that there could be only 3-4 people with this problem.
PS: I never needed to change the encoding to Unicode, in order to play Greek subtitles, btw. The were displayed correctly no errors whatsoever beside the end-timing one...
PS2: BTW, I am aware of the irony that the only ones in this board with such a problem are both Greeks, however since the subtitles in my case are English-only, and the phone was purchased outside of Greece, I cannot see there being a connection with the common "localisation" (even changed the locale to UK-English. Nothing, of course...).
I updated to the latest firmware, yet no change visible :-( i got used to it,but i still want it fixed.
Thanks for answering Alchemius
I don't know.maybe i'll contact samsung and see what they'll have to say about this.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
I have the very same problem.
This is not related with the subtitle language, with 2.2.1 the subtitling was working properly, the sentences were displayed and removed.
Now the senteces are removed only by the next sentence, it means that if you have 2 sentences separeted by 3 minutes, you will see the first sentence for the whole 3 minutes until the next sentence is displayed.
I don't belive that no one (the developers) did not detect this!!
same here pal! we should point it to someone!!! any ideas?

You installed a Samsung Galaxy S PIT/CSC and it somehow solved your Samsung Galaxy S II problem?
No, I installed 2.3.3 - I9000XWJVB from 2011 April 8 with CSC = I9000XEEJV3
This one solves the subtitle problem.
I did contact Samsung, and the reason I didn't say anything was that I got the same old answer: Contact via telephone at 800 ... etc etc and when I emailed them again, I didn't get an answer.
Plus, my dear friend lixogranel if it was fixed at 2.3.3 shouldn't that be fixed at 2.3.5 as well? (latest firmware?)

Thanks for answering, φίλε μου!
the problem is on the default player, mine does not occur during playback with other players.
Also, haven't tried it on the mhl cable, but I'm pretty sure it would happen again, hence the mhl cable mirrors the display!

Since Siyah is the all-in-kernel there are simply too many different roms that it can run making it very hard for the dev to troubleshoot if every little issue is posted on his dev thread, many of which are super noob, noobish or posted without prior testing/problem solving/research.
- battery issues
- wake locks
- PERCEIVED Bugs. Remember that what you experience as a bug is likely just a rom issue or settings related. If many users experience the same thing then GM will take a look.
- extweaks issues
- CPU related
- suggestions/additions to future kernel versions.

***New Pegasus governor***
***Relevant contributions from guys who know stuff.
AndreiLux said:
Eh. Pegasusq has been out from the official Samsung ICS sources since March. The only thing preventing it from being implemented until now is that it needed to have the other hotplug mechanism turned off completely for it to make sense to use it.
Most old hotplug configurables (which are now useless in ExTweaks when using this governor) can now be found in the governor. Use the new SetCPU for example to be able to configure everything.

SetCPU is currently the only GUI interface usable to tweak Peg... for the curious
AndreiLux said:
The new SetCPU has the governor tab changed so that it is populated with ALL configurables for ALL governors. It's backwards and forwards compatible with any governor that has its configurables set in the standard device path.
The lower frequencies not being used is a quirk of pegasus and I pointed it out to Gokhan and he will make it configurable, see the dev thread for info. Nothing you can do about it right now as that nonsense is hardcoded into the governor for now.

And this from GM about the quirky frequency scaling. I'm a bit unsure about his reference to 100mhz not being a good idea as it seems to behave normally for me set as min.
gokhanmoral said:
it cannot work with 25 and 50 (and maybe 100 is not a good idea) because of it's ondemand nature.
load will be high on those frequencies and it will jump to a higher freq very quickly.
I have added a small workaround to prevent that but I think it is not enough.
Click to collapse
*** My Observations so far:
- Scaling misses 200,300 mhz steps completely. Others are barely touched.
- multi core aware. Probably not the same version that will release with the SGS3.
- don't bother with the hotplug settings in extweaks they WILL BE NON-FUNCTIONAL when using Peg.
- setting 200mhz min freq will actually set 500mhz. Setting 100mhz min will work and will jump straight to 500.
scaling issues much improved in 3.2.5 so above info mostly no longer relevant. The new Hot plug governor appears to be be very similar to Pegaasusq. Will add info as it's reported

Hello everebody,
I have a simply question I have AOKP rom resurrection remix, this rom have power tool, where can I setup OC, CPU governor etc. But I want to use exTweaks (more options, BLN etc)
So my questions is: I have to setup both programs (ROM CPU setting and exTweaks)? Because I would like to setup only one program exTweaks.
Now I have set both programs to identical settings (governor smartassV2), but I think this is it unnecessary...
Thanks Neo

extweaks has it's own set parameters which are configurable (the ones provided by gokhan). whatever other settings you want to change (for example voltages and freq's, governor's) you'll have to do with other mechanisms, such as built-in ROM control of your prefered rom, or voltage control app, nstools, setcpu, or any other app like those.
Try some of them and see what suits you best.
Extweaks is only for the kernel specific tweaks, but essential if you want to tweak those too....

Learn to read the BBS dump on you own, don't wait for someone to do it for you, you clearly did not look at your own dump report.
These things are fairly obvious e.g
Code:
multipdp (): [B][U]1 h 30 m 53 s[/U][/B] (5453 s) Cnt:(c/wc/ec)579/0/578 9.4%
secril_fd-interface (): [B][U]1 h 58 s[/U][/B] (3658 s) Cnt:(c/wc/ec)1178/0/0 6.3%
com.google.android.apps.maps (): [B][U]Wakeups: 966[/U][/B]
ccc71.bmw.pro (): [B][U]Wakeups: 961[/U][/B]
I looked at your dump for 5 seconds and saw those, do those figures seem normal to you?
Don't just remove widgets, reconfigure the app or uninstall them, some apps are so poorly written, they perform the same even if there isn't any active widgets

[Q] Performence Problems with Android Revolution HD 11

hey guys,
i ve installed Android Revolution HD 11 on my sgs3.
the rom itself is great.
But i´ll get some trouble with the performence. i activated the speed tweaks and benchmark stats are great (quadrant = ~5400).
But when i wake up the phone it laggs sometimes and this is crap .
i can´t find any reason. it feels like any app did something in the background. it is a hard legging.
so hard, that to open the call interface needs 2 - 3 second.
is there a knowing solution?

[FIX][i9300][08/11/2013]Wake up lag on Samsung JB 4.3 MJ9 Firmware

Hello,
I´ve done some testing to figure out what causes the "wake up lag" on the latest Samsung JB 4.3 Firmware. This Firmware is unfinished as many of you may have noticed.
There are a few missing features or semi broken.
Ok, let´s start with some notices, on some devices you can notice a wake up lag when trying to wake your phone up. It may take several seconds for the screen to appear and to react.
There are a few possibilities to at least greatly reduce the wakeup time:
You´ll need to have a rooted Firmware installed and Trickster Mod ( any similar app will also work ).
These are the methods I´ve tried and figured out:
1) Some people suggest to change the used CPU governor from PegasusQ to ondemand.
While this actually helps to reduce the lag, it is a very bad idea. Ondemand is a generic governor in the linux kernel and does not support CPU Hotplugging. This will result in either a way to big battery drain since the cores will tend to run at full speed most the time, even in idle situations or severe lags.
2) Samsung introduced in the JB 4.2.1 , 4.2.2 and now 4.3 Firmware the usage of zRAM to his kernel.
While zRAM can actually help to improve multitasking, it also needs some extra cpu power which can also cause a higher battery drain. ( which would be very low and not noticeable at all if implemented the right way )
You can disable zRAM with Trickster Mod or any other, similar app. I´ve noticed that by doing this, the wakeup lag was greatly reduced and nearly gone. It takes about 1-2 seconds for the screen to turn on again.
To make sure you´ve disabled zRAM, use a terminal emulator and type "free".
3) Use an alternative kernel: Samsung has released the required kernel sources for JB 4.3 very fast this time.
Yank555, a well known and skilled developer has already built the first custom kernel for JB 4.3. By installing this kernel and using a different cpu governor than PegasusQ ( eg. zzmoove ), you will also notice a greatly reduced wakeup lag and also a better battery consumption.
Get this kernel directly from Yank555 here, you´ll have to create a forum account first:
http://yank555-lu.net/viewtopic.php?p=3#p3
Notice: If this kernel breaks your root, you´ll have to install this package again:
http://download.chainfire.eu/345/
Hopefully you´ll manage to reduce the wakeup lag by trying my methods
Feel free to leave your comments and tell me what worked out best for you.
Creating a separate forum and not releasing sources as gpl for one kernel is such a lame ass move.
Yes, i feel great improvement with Yank's kernel about wake up lag.
Thx for the info
Hi Victorator,
Please don't judge about this topic when you don't know the history and why yank made this decision. If you followed other kernel threads you had seen that yank is a role model when it is about helping and sharing.
Best regards,
Matt

Yank? He shares more than anybody here. Everyone uses his zzmoove setup. Plus, he used to have a thread here before AndreiLux kept on harassing him. That was the last straw for him.
It's his decision to not post here. It kinda sucks but we should respect it at least.
I also noticed if you are using WiFi - change advanced settings - set from DHCP to Static.
There was still a small screen on lag (about 1 second) but significantly less then with DHCP.

Accidentally press thanks button on the post above. Annoying xda app.
Big plus 1 for your comments. Wonder if OP got permission from yank to post his kernel here. Whatever the reasons and whatever arguments involved, we should respect his decision which clearly stated in his forum. Furthermore, this thread doesn't belong here imho, no development thus should be in general.

JP doesn´t mind if I post a link to his forum, for the guys who want to use his kernel. However, he doesn´t accept hot links directly to his webspace or alternative links to other webspace..
I respect his work and have mentioned his kernel in a way which is acceptable to all of us. Just in case JP doesn´t want his work to be mentioned, I´m going to remove the link to his forum.
Are there anyway to fix app opening lag. Specially dialler, gallery.

Im running his 4.3 release on Omega v51 (4.3) currently in beta stage and its great. Was a big fan of his work while he was here on XDA and followed him to his site to continue using his work too on my S3 through-out 4.1.2.Shame he had to leave like that but at least he still Devs.
Could someone test something ???
I disable the LockScreen and know when i push the power button my screen opens immediately.
I use this LockScreen https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lockscreen.galaxy
The result is when i push the power button my screen opens immediately
So maybe the problem with lag is the LockScreen ???

Hmm. Your argument seems legit. But what could possible go wrong with the lock screen?

There doesn't seem to be lags with dialer or gallery. I use the S4 gallery as a replacement to the default 4.3 gallery app that came with the update..
both of them seem to work perfectly fine..

And that's what is perfectly managed with Sir yank's kernel.
Use of zram for multitasking, etc might be the solutions. But that kernel solves the problems..

It is a shame we have to go to a separate site and register to get this kernel. Hope the Dev decides to come back to XDA.

Use opera mini or another browser that gives you an ip number instead of your own, I had the same issue.
AFAIK, OnDemand does Hotplug, it does on the S4.
Hi. Which goverors are available if I use Trickster Mod (or similar) with the stock 4.3 kernel? As you write that ondemand is not good, is there any govenor available which solves the wakeup delay and is recommended?
I´m just searching for a slim solution to eliminate that wakeup delay, I don´t want to flash a custom kernel.
Thanks fpr help
