UPDATED: added version 1.14 to this post (and pushed it to Play Store as well)
please let me know if it works good (doesn't reboot) when applying settings on stock rooted kernel.
Hi!
I'm trying to make my app TouchScreenTune to work on default kernel on ATT version of Galaxy Note. But since I don't have it myself (I have European Note), I obviously need some feedback from people with I717
This is for GingerBread kernel (however in the case on N7000 it works on ICS as well)
Could you please check if ToouchScreenTune test version attached to this post works with your rooted kernel? Especially I'm interested if it works with stock kernel. Just try to adjust SPen position to some extreme offset - you will immediately see it when pressing screen with SPen.
Thanks.
P.S. Description of the app from the Market after the break
----------
Market link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vital.tst.n7000&hl=en
*Requires Root*
*Currently supports Samsung Galaxy Note (tested on N7000), Galaxy S2*
*THIS IS TRIAL VERSION!!! FULL VERSION REQUIRES REGISTRATION AND IS PAID*
NorthAmerican/AT&T Note users - see comment regarding kernel below!!!!
TouchScreenTune application allows you to fine-tune settings of phone's touchscreen and calibrate Pen cursor position for every screen orientation (portrait/landscape...). (S-pen calibration obviously works only for Note)
It allows to dramatically improve responsiveness and sensitivity of touchscreen.
If you are using screen protector on your phone, the application will allow to raise screen sensitivity, so there will be no responsiveness impact from using screen protector.
This application allows you to calibrate amount of touch movement, when actual reporting of scrolling starts. That allows more smooth feeling of the interaction with the touch screen.
Without this application you cannot precisely draw or click small items with Pen because it reports position incorrectly - few millimeters away from the actual touch point. But this application allows you to precisely calibrate position of Pen touch on the screen. (Galaxy Note only)
Some common problems:
When first starting there should be popup from SuperUser application with request to get Root access. Some people say that sometimes it doesn't appear. In that case try starting the SU program first, and then this application.
This application supports standard Samsung firmwares - with custom kernels it may not work (however I have successfully tested it with some custom kernels)
Custom kernels: app requires kernel with KALLSYMS, so ask developer of your kernel to include this in his config when building kernel: CONFIG_KALLSYMS=y, CONFIG_KALLSYMS_ALL=y
Known issues: if when first starting application it seems to be not responding, and dialog asking to force close app comes - choose wait. This should happen only on first run.
Hi- I read sonewhere TST does not work with the stock att kernel. You need to root and flash a kernel that supports it from the development section.

I have the paid version and run rooted with custom kernel and can't get it to work
Sent from my note running a jelly bean key lime pie hybrid OS
It does not appear to change anything. I set the x and y offsets to 300 each and the target did not change position relative to the pen placement.

That's why I'm posting this test version here - I want to make it work
I have compiled it to work with kernel sources that were published by Samsung.

My apologies...I should have been more specific about my set up.
I'm using a custom ROM based off the leaked ICS 4.0.3 firmware. I'm rooted with SuperSU, but the kernel is stock since we don't have source for the ICS kernel yet.
I do get an error message

This is compiled for GB, however in the case of N7000 it works on leaked version of ICS as well. However judging from your error - either ICS leak lacks Kallsyms support or driver is much changed compared to GB version.
I have also uploaded one more test version - which possibly may work better.

Parsing error when trying to install the new version.
Stock GB kernel does not have KALLSYMS. It was added for some custom kernels, though.
My guess is that ICS does not have this either.

Uploaded new version again - now it seems to be OK.
Regarding Kallsyms - stock actually should have it - at least according to kernel sources published by Samsung, and also some people reports. So it would be really nice if somebody with stock kernel could test it.

I bought the app from you off the market.
It did work on the holo kernel.
However, on Seraphim ICS build it doesn't.
I actually uninstalled the program.
The spen is off by 1 square in s-memo. Not too bad.
ICS is much better about the sensitivity and tracking
I had them set to 0 and 25 as recommended but like I said that was too much so I just uninstalled.
does not work on un-rooted, stock att ...
Good to see you hear, i loved using this on GB.
Running ICS from the collective, it loads up but won't apply any requested changes.
May have to wait till the kernel is released and KALLSYMS is added in.
Hi vitalij,
I am running a rooted but otherwise totally stock at&t galaxy note. I tested the application but couldn't notice a difference with the spen settings, even moving them to the extremes.
I tested the application in the marketplace as well. It would open and let me adjust the settings (again, didn't notice a difference) but when I applied the changes my device would reset. I upgraded to the full version and the same thing happened. When I redownloaded the test version the reboot fixed itself, but the settings still don't make a difference on the pen.
Hope this helps!

I have been having numerous issues trying to get ICScrewd to run on my phone and I am almost certain its a kernel issue.
It was suggested that I swap out the kernel before flashing and that sounds like a great idea to me.
Except...... I don't know how.
Is it as simple as taking the zImage from the kernel zip I want and placing it in the rom zip I want?
Can I ignore the META-INF folder or do I need to somehow merge that over too?
I am sure there is a wiki or a how-to on this but I have looked and cant find it. Its probably because I don't know phrase my search.
But anyway, if someone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Yup it is that simple, just replace the file with the one you want.
You can also clean up with kernel cleaning script then flash entropy kernel in recovery

My poor phone locks up even in recovery running Siyah. Its crazy.
I am going to try this like you suggested in your thread.

Thanks guys!

Just curious since I have never tried a mod with any major changes, what are the benifits of changing out the Kernel, and what are the differences between them?

For myself the benefit was actually being able to run the ICScrewd rom at all.
In my experience of several years of flashing, some kernels just wont work with some phones.
It sound odd and all that, but my real world experience has led me to give each kernel I am interested in several tried and if they continually crash my phone I move on. I have no idea why this would be. Coming from the Captivate I tried all sorts of kernel and rom combinations. If they didn't work well I just moved on.
As far as different kernels go, some have better battery life than others due to built in tuning I believe. They can be cleaned up to help your phone run faster. And obviously from my experience here in this thread, help your phone be stable.
Excuse my noobness, please. I figured this would be a pretty relevant thread to post this question.
I flashed Siyah 2.6.9 via Odin and then in recovery installed ICScreweD. Did doing so revert my kernel to the older version of Siyah used in the rom?
If so, can I just flash in the newer version using Odin or should I research another method?
This is my first root/mod so I'm still a little nervous about messing up.

yes this reverted to the older kernel included in the rom, to flash the newest kernel. Load the zip of the kernl onto your sd card, enter CWM and flash the zip. Much easier to do than with odin.
Thanks! I was pretty sure that was the case but figured I should ask anyway. I've been lurking these forums for a while and it's awesome how helpful this community is to everyone.
While on the subject of ICScreweD, is there anything I will lose by going to the green edition? The website is kinda unclear as to if there are any features not yet available in the green edition.

This is a continuation of my previous ShishirROM series of ROMS that started out on Gingerbread 2.3.4, and have evolved and expanded to today, where the latest version of ShishirROM is based off of XWLPG 4.0.3. Aberration is built completely independent of those and the only resemblance to my old ROMs is the dialer, which was an original creation anyways, but at it's heart, it's the next step. The ROM focuses on speed and smoothness and battery life. It incorporates common-sense fixes and ground-breaking features as well as third-party applications that bring something new to the table every time you use them. The ROM was inspired by the old Samsung gingerbread ROMS -- they were stable, fast, and just worked. This ROM manages to bring the same sort of feel back to the table while maintaining an updated look similar to the Galaxy S3 series of phones, and Android's resident Holo design. The Aberration Settings application is an extension of this ROM that lets you change some deeper settings, such as using Lidroid's beautiful 14 Notification Widget Mod instead of the default themed widgets, as well as provide an easier way for users to update to the latest version of Aberration, no matter which model of the Galaxy S2 they're running. This ROM aims to be the ONE ROM that supports every Galaxy S2 phone, and brings them on par with the super-phones coming out later this year. It's an update away from giving your phone four cores, two gigs of RAM, and a 4.8" SAMOLED HD display.
Features:
ODEXED (for smoothness)
Based on XWLPM
Siyah
Aberration Settings app
Lidroid 14 Quick Toggles
AROMA Installer
Google Now
Lux Auto-brightness
Opensource Sensors library (more accurate and faster)
Holo/Jellybean inspired styling
Apex/GS3/GS2 Launcher
GS2/GS3 Music application
Easy-Update
Samsung Dive
Complete development cycle

I built this ROM directly from XXLPM stock, not ported it from another unrelated device, sorry if that was unclear. The Galaxy S2 i777 and Galaxy S2 i9100 are EXTREMELY alike, so alike in fact that about five files hold the changes between them. No actual porting was done.
And I can't provide a link to the original since I made this, and this is the original lol. It's just a Stock Samsung ROM based off of 4.0.4 LPM with a few tweaks and fixes thrown in.
EDIT: Let me try and be more clear: this ROM was built off of XXLPM. It was initially tested on the i777 because that happens to be the device I have, but the development of the ROM was exactly the same for both versions. The i777 and i9100 versions are very different. Different modems, kernels, libs, etc. This ROM truly was built for both devices in mind, therefore it isn't a port.

What he means is that what special features or original features does the rom have in order for it to stay in the original development for example paranoidandroid, it has the capability of changing per app dpi, from phone ui to a tablet ui etc. Jkay framework which can customize almost everything from the lockscreen to the notification bar. Because if it is just a cooked rom with some features that has been gotten from other devs, it should belong to android development. But i may be wrong, maybe you have something special in the settings you mention on the OP. Good luck on your rom bdw.
Cheers!

Hello,
I wanted to try your rom, so i downloaded the i9100 zip and followed the installation steps and i got installation completed without any problems.
Then i choosed to reboot. The screen showed the Siyah logo, then the phone gave me a sound... and then nothing. Black screen. I have tried again and again but the same result. Maybe i am doing something wrong.
Thanks

What kind of a rude person are you ? This is no way to post something on a thread
Anybody else facing this issue. Any suggestions for this issue.
For everyone facing the black screen issue, first make sure you're running the i9100 version, and confirm that you wiped data before installing, then try flashing another i9100 kernel before you boot up for the first time. It sounds like the kernel didn't get flashed for some reason. I'll have to do some more digging. If anyone can grab a logcat then i'd appreciate it, although I don't know if the Log service got started after the Siyah screen.
If it still doesn't work, it may not have gotten installed properly. Try going into mounts/storage in CWM and wipe /system, manually do a factory reset/wipe data, and wipe cache as well. That should get everything.
EDIT: If you're getting the sound after boot, that just means the boot animation isn't showing for some reason. Give it five minutes and see if the phone boots up. If so then I'll upload a fix for this when someone confirms that's the issue.

PLUS YOU WILL NEED TO FLASH GAPPS AFTER
Jelly Bean 4.2 Gapps here (CM10.1)
(use top row CM10.1 link for 11/30)
WHAT WORKS
(Basically, most items I tested work)
Hardware Acceleration (Thanks to Hascode for all things related to HD codecs customization)
HD Codecs (YouTube)
NOT WORKING
Bootanimation needs a display bugfix (Landscape mode default)
Recents list also needs a display bugfix
Sound does not always work (seemingly random), especially with Apps like Google Play music.
USB Transfer speed seems very low (800kb/s)
INSTALLATION
FULL WIPE is required when coming from a 4.1 ROM. Use Titanium Backup to restore apps.
Download the ZIP
Grab the GAPPS (11/30 from goo.im/gapps)
Reboot into CWM
Make your backup
Wipe -> Factory Reset (data/cache)
Flash both .zip files
Reboot and Enjoy

i find the auto-rotate needs a fix in general, it's not only the bootanimation that is off standard. 7 inch tablets were changed to be portrait by default. i also find that sound doesn't work 100% either, but that's a minor problem.
This is a really good release and i can't wait to see what you do to it :3

Couple things I'm seeing...
Clock Force Closes every boot
Microphone is not working with Google Now (this has had issues on other 4.1 roms, so not surprised that it doesnt work here, although there is a patch, somewhere for it)
Daydream setting for Clock causes a settings force close (others work fine, could be related to the Clock Force Close on bootup).
Google Now says Location services are turned off, they are turned on in settings, so something isn't right there.
I will post back if i can find that patch and try it out to see if it will fix the mic issue.
EDIT: I tried the patch (used to be a flashable .zip file, now is an APK) and was not able to use the mic afterwards still

appears that true tablet mode is completely gone (even setting Density to 133, i could not get it), this is fine, as with a lower density, i REALLY like the UI the way it is.
I will post back if i can find that patch and try it out to see if it will fix the mic issue.

If I recall, Google removed Tablet Mode entirely from 4.2.x
Well, not removed just locked it out (confirmed by PA team). You're not likely to find it until someone hacks something together to get it back.

yeah, i figured as much, thats cool, i got used to a lower than stock lcd_density, so i'll just set it at 140 and see if it causes any problems... i will have to say that i like the phablet ui at that scale though, it still pretty clean, and nice.

Changelog : Multiuser support (Thanks Hascode for help), WiFi location now works.
Here is a custom kernel based on the latest GT-N7100 sources for the Note 2. I've taken a lot of stuff out, so if you like playing around with changing 500 things on the kernel before you start using your phone, look somewhere else. It pulls in Beoffla Sound and Simple IO Scheduler and removes as much debugging stuff as possible, non-default CPU and IO schedulers, and Ext2 Support (Ext4 handles Ext2/3). I've also gotten rid of recovery over-write on boot and enabled adb root by default.
There is no overclocking support, overclocking is useless unless you're pumping up your e-peen. There is no undervolting support as it hasn't been shown to do anything useful on multi-core systems from everything I've seen. There is no init.d support as 90% of the init.d scripts are useless. It will continue using stock boot animations as well, though I'm sure it wouldn't be to difficult to make stock android boot animations work. That may even be possible without any kernel changes anyway.
The only issue I've run into is that exFAT SDcards may not work with it. I've been trying to figure out why, but it is slow going when I don't have an exFAT card to test with. If anyone would like to help fix it, flash and get me full dmesg and logcats. If you don't know how to get those, but still want to help, see my SDK Guide for a general overview of what to do.
This kernel is built for TouchWiz ROMs, and should work on any available VZW ROM currently available. It works for VRALJB, VRALL4, and VRAMC3 from my own testing, let me know if you have issues on a TW ROM and I may be able to fix it. For a download, see below. I also am not posting in original development because IMO, that entire forum is useless and confusing.

I get a "Status 7" error when trying to install, WTF?
Update your recovery. TWRP that is flashed via the unlock method does not process asserts properly (it was compiled for a different Note 2 model). This is meant to keep people from flashing this to the wrong device.
My exFAT SDcard isn't working
See the OP, I need info to get exFAT to work properly. Until then, format your SDCard to FAT32
Where are all the options?
You can't read, I already said there are none. This is flash and forget it.
This is the best thing since sliced bread, can I make it rain?
Click the DONATE TO ME button to the left, or click here, it's appreciated, but not expected. Clicking thanks on the posts also works.
This thing is worse than Tub Girl, how do I go back to what I had before?
Just reflash your old kernel. If you were on stock before, I've posted the stock kernels at the end of this post.
I'm having a problem, FIX IT NAO!!!1!
Send me both the output from dmesg and logcat as well as details of what you do when you see the problem. Otherwise, the source is linked to below, fix it yourself.

Dude no lie...I was thinking to myself last night that I wish this kernel was available for our phone. Your kernel for the GNex was the best thing to have been on my GNEX. Downloading then flashing immediately. Thanks imnuts

Flashed fine. Charging to 100% then ill report back once I drain it. Feels nice and smooth though. Better then straight stock from what I see thus far

I would think that it should work on any 4.1.x TW ROM, but I haven't tested it out. Do you know what kernel is used on that ROM?

Support for 4.4.3 has been discontinued due to 4.4.4 being released. See 4.4.4 port below

Hey top snake nice job I installed and here are the issues I have found.. First when making a call you lose data and second changing to cdma doesn't stick at least not for me other then those two issues you did one hell of a job. Also no issue like your 4.4.2 port when going back to 4.4 which had the data partition issues.

Thanks for trying it out! Im thinking the data loss may be an issue with the source being T-Mobile. Odd that CDMA didn't stick, it does for me.

i think so, but still using AT&T radio. As for me, it works better in GSM networks.
Thanks so much for this! The only problem with it is Touchless Control is broken for commands like "Find my phone" because it freezes the device for a bit and then restarts System UI. Also, after calling upon Touchless Control more than three times, it never worked again until after a reboot. Other than that, it's really great!
sorry but i have some more questions:
1. what does the displayfix "really" (disable onscreen buttons ?) ?
2. is it possible with this port to install OTA's from the moto x retail version (if they are released like a android 4.4.4 ota) ?
if not, have i to reflash a entire port like this again ?
3. what changes are made in the build.prop (in comparison to the original moto x one) ? i want to stay as "moto x", because the device compatiblity in the play store is higher with the moto x, as it is more widespread as the droid maxx.

1) on screen buttons and drivers for hw buttons
2)no. It will fail
3) build numbers, exploits, device reporting
So, i've installed this port, installed buttons fix, flashed Faux Kernel for 4.4.2 (colours works fine on it)))
Still trouble with Active Display
Does anybody have an idea how to fix it?

I couldn't, because update for Active Display is not available from GPlay...
service just shows current time.. not notification shortcut, nor notification details((
in all other firmware works fine, especially with faux kernel + faux control
But i reverted back to stock ROM, due to Active Display bug....
I've put together a small patch to allow use of the T-Mobile 4.4.3 stock ROM on the Droid Mini. This is basically an updated build.prop, the same lights blob and keyboard tweak included in the first post, with additional binary blobs collected by @mainbord for the Droid Mini.
No guarantees. Use at your own risk, etc, etc.
