ok, i saw this article on gizmodo so i tried to download it. apparantly O1 is in the "not supported so go away" list. So i tried the experimental ARM v6 build, cause it told me too, and when i run it, it goes into infinate load loop. Using Prime ROM.
Anyone would like to try?

For devices with ARMv6 processors, like the HTC Hero, Legend, Droid Eris, Wildfire, or Samsung Moment. (See below for a longer list of phones.)
Note: The ARMv6 build not supported, and is known to crash frequently. Many older Android phones do not have enough RAM or storage to run current Fennec builds.

there are a gazillion browsers for android and u r still stuck on Firefox..Get it over it man...FF for android is still under development ..Buggy and ppl need to restart it all the time....I wudnt care much abt it..Dolphin Mini suites most my needs ..Its got JS suport so i can download files from rapidshare, megaupload etc. unlike opera Mini..Try MAxthon too ..Its new and its good
Man don't be so negative, our phone is awesome !
it's just experimental ! you can't run it now but you will in a while !
be patient, use Opera,Dolphin etc etc there is a billion web browser out there !
The moment you bought otimus one, you should be well aware that there are compromises because of its affordable price. there are tons of good browsers available, firefox is on beta if im not mistaken. And still has bugs. Our phone is great just dont expect it to perform like a high-end device.
This just made me chuckle. Dude go use a myTouch for a few months, then come back to this phone. It would be like comparing a Ford Model T to a Vette.

what about using dolphin HD ? I am using it with lots of extensions, like firefox sync etc and it works great.
..Anyone here have a copy of the Fx mobile for ARMv6? seem it is being removed from the page and their FTP
Second thoughts : stock browser is good enough. I have this behavior thinking that stock =bad

Try Firefox 7, it might change your mind. Reviews by tech websites and some users have reported the newest FF being faster and lighter than Chrome. I can't vouch for the because I never used Chrome on a regular basis, but it's definitely light, the version that finally got me to upgrade after holding on to FF 3.6 for months.
As for mobile browsers, the AOSP browser uses the same engines as Chrome, so it's already like having chrome in our phone. That said, with Opera Mini & Dolphin around I see no reason why I should use a buggy Fennec that doesn't officially support my phone.

if you really want firefox, you can run debian in a chroot and use iceweasel (firefox 3.5)
or you can run old version of ubuntu that still supports armv6 in chroot and use straight-up firefox.
it's a little slow in the vnc viewer, and you can't deal with much media because of the speed, but it handles uploads and downloads way better than stock android browser, and opens pages that android's chrome-ish browser won't.
I use iceweasel when I can't get to something with the stock browser.
just my 2 cents, since this topic's been pulled from the graveyard for discussion.

I've seen a thread for debian on optimus one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996746
and am in one for debian on the optimus v
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129803
you can use the debian stable version (6.0) I uploaded and then upgrade once it's running on your phone, or you'll have to debootstrap your own image using wheezy (is wheezy 7.0?) or sid as you prefer, instead of squeeze, as laid out in the O-One thread above.
I'm not sure about ubuntu, which you'd need for an up-to-date firefox release, but you can search for ubuntu filesystem chroot images, they're around too.
Hi all,
this may be a silly question, and i apologise if its already been asked....
so on my Windows 7 laptop, i want to run some old programs...i use the Windows XP virtual machine feature....
is there an equivalent app for ANDROID that i can install on my HDX8.9 that would effectively allow me to run a stock rom 'inside' the virtual machine?
...and obviously get full play access ....or there would be little point.
obivously there would most likely be performance issues etc. and you are running and O/S within an O/S which some may find confusing or cumbersome.
just a thought....anyone know?
regards
Dale
Safestrap I believe. 13.3.1 or 14. You have your original OS and then allow you to create another Android OS(kinda).
I think I missed the whole idea you were getting at...

There is a way to mount linux in a rooted device- without actually installing it. Oracle might have worked around that- but the problem with a virtual machine is they are not actually installed. Something as easy to run as android could work- but seriously, that could work.

Your only option is an emulator, since windows runs on x86 and kindle has arm. Snapdragon 800 might be powerfull enough to emulate a windows xp, but be prepaired for serious perfomance issues. You should use the oldest version of windows that your software runs on. But for native android apps use 1mobile market.
Thanks all for the responses....just to clarify, what I was trying to ask is is there an app for android like the Virtual PC app on Windows that runs Android.....so I would be running a sandboxed android on android lol, kinda hoping for an alternative solution to the current root crisis....I.e. I have no root and its really frustrating that the awesome hardware in my HDX is crippled by not being able to access the play store....never mind the fact I can't load additional keyboards or wallpapers etc.

I'm sure you could run it in chroot, you'd have to create a bash script to boot it

Hello everybody,
I was wondering if there is a X86 release of Ubuntu Touch, to try on a touch-enabled notebook. Anyone knows?
There is the ubuntu-desktop-next distribution which currently shows the tablet/smartphone UI: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-desktop-next/daily-live/current/
BUT don't forget these are daily builds. Things might be broken on those.

Thanks I didn't know that. I am currently downloading it. Is the switch feature already pre-installed in the live?
Talking about that, what is this about?
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/current/
PC (Intel x86) preinstalled touch image
For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure.

Ubuntu Desktop Next is a Ubuntu distribution which is based on the PC images but uses Unity 8 (the new desktop environment) and Mir (the new display server). It was set up to check the current state of Unity 8 and Mir on the desktop and will be used for the development of the Unity 8 desktop version. Since the work on the desktop version hasn't started yet, it still shows the tablet version though.
Oh, one last note: Last time I tried, it did not work with Virtual Box or VM Ware. I don't think this has changed yet.
Thanks for helping me out.
My last link was about "Ubuntu Touch 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Daily Build".
Have you tried this, too, by any chance?
Sorry, I did not see it was a link to Ubuntu Touch builds. I haven't seen those x86 builds before. If you get them to work, please tell me.

Would it be possible to emulate android on an android phone? As in, you could supply an app with an android version (or have the app build it for you) an emulate or run it. Any time it asks for something device specific, it would simply run the request back to the stock OS. Said app would kill all but the essential android processes to improve performance. And to return, it could add a shortcut to the app drawer that would close everything and return to the stock. Using this, could we create universal, or at least wider, distributions of android?
Android in your android so you can android while you android....
I love it! its like watercooling a raspberry pi, because you can.
would be amusing to see

My main idea was to be able to emulate any android version on any other and have it work as if it was built for that device. So if you had a KitKat device, and there were no Nougat ports available for your device (ahem), you could still run Nougat by emulating it. AKA, universal distributions of android.
But that would be pretty ridiculous. Actually, that could be a new benchmarking method: how many stacked emulators can it handle?

Well, if no-one supports your phone, what other choice do you have? Also, were this a thing, it would be easier for ROM developers, too, as you could simply update a single package.. As for SU permissions...
SU would only be used for, let's see...
Not Bluetooth (can be accessed by other apps)
Not WiFi
Not calling
Switching off your phone? Holding power would just trigger the default power menu, as some system processes would still run and for the most part the emulator app would be treated as any other.
Killing processes for extra efficiency? Maybe. But it would be optional and likely wouldn't make much of a difference.

Hmm you've got a point there, this could be used to root a phone thats unrootable effectively, like the android emulated inside an Iphone that some people did in the Iphone 4 days
all depends on implimentation, you'd have to set up the emulator to trigger normal events, like power saving cpu states etc in response to the emulated android os's requirements
I've been thinking.
Let's say you decide to emulate AOSP Nougat. You then installed the official Pixel Launcher. While emulating, it would act as it should, as it would be entirely identical to if you were running Nougat.
Then you close the emulation. You then try to open Pixel Launcher; it's already installed. Would it crash?
Ok then...
Would I just look for adb? Or does adb simply ask something else to emulate?
Can we install Windows 10 on the S7/S7+?
LMFAO
Please tell me you're kidding?
Yes we can.
FAQ
It's not as stupid of a question as you guys make it seem. Windows 10 ARM version exists (but there is no way to get a legal license and/or installation media for it) for the Surface Pro X and a few other devices. Of course there would most likely be no drivers, but in theory Win 10 COULD be possibly.. but yea in reality it's not at the moment.
Is anybody able to use a windows emulator? I tried Linux on it but wondering if there's a better way to use Windows apps if I need to other than remoting into my PC

I've found a few solutions to this. Ibochs works but is basically unusable. TeamViewer allows you to wake up your home PC and control it. This works surprisingly well if you have a good connection. Microsoft also has an app called Azure that lets you use a virtual desktop for less than $.01/hr if you can't wake up your home PC over ip for some reason
I'm going to go out on a limb here and use a throwback analogy... Much like a free ride from a partner with an STD... Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should... LOL
