[q] ics generic - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

i have a rooted .62 and i have CWM and i installed AROMA too, can i put ICS Generic , ???
AND MY PHONE IS NOT UNLOCKED

Not until it is released by Sony
Only final releases by Sony can be installed without unlocking bootloader
Sent from my Xperia Mini using XDA

You have to unlock your bootloader.
There are a lot of post on how to unlock your bootloader. If you later have a problem and need to send back your phone to repair, just relock it again.

Can i remove AROMA INSTALLER ???
i really dnt know , what its used for , installed it mistakely

AFAIK, Aroma installer is just launched in installing custom roms like the Generic ICS port for SE. Aroma installer is not installed on the phone.

right, its like a setup wizard. since the rom is used for several xperia phones, it'll make things easier and simple for the devs, they bundled everything on just one installer. just let the aroma run and it will install the rom on your phone.

[Q] Android 4.0

Hi, i have a Xperia Neo with a 2.3.4 rom. It looks like sony have released the android 4.0 for its devices.
Does the Xperia Neo have this option, it's official? What are the advantages of 4.0 over 2.3.4?
And are all 2.3.4 apps and games compatible with 4.0?
Thanks!
Were you in coma or something? :/

Hahahaa..... Coma!!!!!. :-D
Actually android 4.0.4 is released now. More functions than older android. But it consumes more RAM,
Everything is compatible with this version,

Yes, 4.0.4 being the latest

I flashed the official 4.0.4 with an old flashtool (x10, can't install the new one) and now i'm stuck because it isn't rooted, and i can't enter cwm recovery mode to install a custom rooted rom.
How can i enable recovery mode?

Hi,
If your phone works , you can use these Guides for Rooting, ... etc :
Rooting ICS 4.0.4 (both Locked & Unlocked Bootloaders) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
Installing CWM with Locked Bootloader :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364509
if your phone doesn't work properly (Reboot Loop , ...etc) , Download SUS & Repair your phone (you probably get ICS 4.0.4) and then use the guides for rooting ,...etc:
SUS (Sony Update Service ) : http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
Good Luck!
The phone works. The problem is that i can't open falshtool...
So i need root to flash CWM and i need CWM to flash a rooted rom.
The link you posted requires CWM, right? How can i get CWM without root and without flashtool?

I don't think you could have CWM without root. The Link that i post , needs working Flashtool to root and after that you can install CWM.
Guys ...if u r in unlocked boot loader just install a custom kernel like night elf which have root and cwm within it...then u can install any custom rom .....I used this trick many times ...they it.....use fast boot to install kernel ..

ICS ROM and Questions

Hey
Currently have a rooted Xperia Mini Pro on 2.3 Gingerbread but it seems the official ICS 4.0 update won't be coming to my SI number so I have a few questions. I have decided to install a custom ICS ROM on my phone so would like it to be as fast as possible and very stable. So got a few questions for you.
My phone is rooted, do I flash Clockwork Mod onto it and then clear the data etc and flash the new ROM?
How do I unlock the bootloader and can I relock it later? Any easy method? And if I need to do this, do I do it before flashing the recovery?
I have apps installed on my SD Card. I know the ones installed on my phone will be wiped and I can re-install those few but will the large games and apks installed on my SD card be wiped too? Or will they still show up in the menu?
Do I flash the kernel that I'll need the same way as the ROM too?
And finally the most important question: which the quickest ICS ROM for the SK17i?
Thanks a lot in advance
There is 2 ways to unlock the bootloader, one official and one non official. I used the official http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ the other one you have to find on the forum. Both is possible to relock bootloader by flashing a ftf file thru flashtool.
Kernel is flashed thru flashtool and the rom thru cwm thats usually included in the kernel.
Apps on your SD card will not show on the new custom rom as the phone doesnt know that you have them installed so you will have to reinstall (or use titanium backup).
First of all I tried the official ICS on my SK17i and I didn't like it, it's alot slower than the GB with no super feauters that deserve it
I am now using the MiniCMSandwich Lite ROM. IT'S SOOO great and working very will. You can find it in a thread here.
Follow the instruction in the thread.
If u unlocked bootloader u can relock it but if u decided to unlock it follow the testpoint method not the official one because it's better.
Anyway .. Installing the official ICS or th ROM I told u don't need unlocking bootloader so don't unlock it.
If u want to root ur ICS u have to read that before Updating to ICS

Right firstly I decided to attempt to unlock my bootloader. It turns out for some reason I cannot unlock it (says not allowed in the menu). So suddenly a lot of the good ROMS are out of the question.
I have decided on the below ROM as Tayyar states that I don't need an unlocked bootloader. I know how to flash the ROM etc but how would I flash the Kernel? Or would it automatically flash with the ROM? I remember reading somewhere an unlocked bootloader is a MUST to flash the ICS Kernels hence my question
The official update has also not been made available for my phone and I doubt it will be so I will stick to my current version and flash the ROM now
About the apps on the SD Card, how should I go about it then? Should I get Titanium Backup and then do what with it? I have quite a few apps, it would be very annoying to need to re-install all of these.
Thanks a lot
Since your phone is rooted, try editing the region codes/CDA strings in /system/build.prop to a CDA code/SI number that has the ICS update. I did this myself when I reflashed my phone to get root on GB. I connected using Sony Update Service and was able to get stock ICS customized for my country using "CUSTOMIZED PH WORLD I 1254-1952"
What I changed was the CDA strings inside:
ro.product.name
ro.build.fingerprint
ro.semc.version.cust
You do not have to replace the whole value, just the XXXX-XXXX CDA string you already have there.
More info on these XDA threads:
[SOLVED] force update by editing build.prop, Also: [WIP] list of CDA strings!
Here's a list of available WT19 CDA codes for different countries/regions.
Credits go to original posters.
Titanium Backup is always a great app to use. Only caveat is, you might want to manually restore apps instead of doing a batch restore; some of them might not work with the jump from GB to ICS. Also it would cause a lot of trouble if you try to restore Contacts Storage from a GB ROM to an ICS ROM. Just stating my personal experience

Kernels can only be flashed with an unlocked bootloader. Kernels get only flashed via fastboot mode. A cwm flash is not possible at the moment.
You can flash custom roms via cwm. Your bootloader is locked, so you have to look that your choosen rom is compatible with your bootloader.

My friend, ICS for Xperia mini/minipro sucks.. Its was slow compared to GB. I've tried all the tweaks, hack and other bullshits.. now i am back to GB. and i am very happy i did. But if you really want ICS, then Minicms/CM9 is the best choice.

wt19i lag

Hello,
I have problem with lag on my LWW wt19i. Every basic function that every normal phone should handle, opening dialpad, contacts, or messages, I need to wait for 2-3 seconds to open it.
I have generic ICS, last update..
Any idea what to do?
I think I don't have warranty, because I flashed it with other s/n ROM while I was trying to get root. And I can't flash any other custom ROM because my bootloader is locked. So I'm stuck with official SE ROMs.
Thank you.

You still have warranty because you haven't unlocked your btloader.. ( DRM keys are intact )..... for faster functioning you can install cyanogen mod 9.1 or mini cm lite...however you have to unlock btloader and your warranty will void... or you can uninstall the default contacts app etc and install pure google apks... download and install the attchment.. extract to get apks.. ( perform a backup first.. i haven't tested it...
Ignore the attachment .. Its not working.

Stock ICS is not worth performance...if you want ICS only den root your phone and install ROMS for lock boot loader ...there are some really good roms for you !
Thanks. I'll try with custom ROMs that doesn't require unlocked bootloader.
Do you have any suggestions which one to use? Recommendation. Thank you.

you can get your warrent back by flashing offical sony ics , then relock your bootloader if its unlocked , congrats you have your warrenty back , delete all the flashable zips from your zip card "sony staff my get suspecious" then take your phone to sony service center and they will fix it
It's not with wt19i only but all ICS ROMs. ICS is a failure(sigh..) like vista. Hope for a good JB ROM as it's the best android version yet. GB is evergreen like windows XP. GB will last longer than any of the android versions as it's already perfected.

Need Little Help

Hey guys,I own optimus one and I m used to rooting and stuff but my brother owns xperia mini pro so I need to install cyanogenmod (9 or10) whichever is stable.I had gone through various guides and stickies yet I want to be dead sure that I don't mess up my brothers handset. Its kinda new coz bootloader needs to be unlocked and also kernel image needed to be flashed separately unlike in optimus one.
Now I want help of you guys in the following manner like:-
1. My brothers mini pro is on ICS 4.1.B.0.587 and the rooting tutorial provided here for the said firmware
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/41119?start=0&tstart=0 is not clear to me coz it says that first I need to install some kernel [only mini mentioned here] then next I need to flash another kernel according to firmware. Can someone explain what is being done in this and why rooting is so complicated in this.
2. Certain ROM's say that you need to flash kernel first using flashtool
My query is that all ROM's that I flashed till now on optimus one included kernel and I only needed to flash ROM zip through cwm.. So do I need to flash kernel everytime I flash ROM!! and isn't there flashable zip for kernel too!!
3. FXP ROM's do not contain things like what's working and what's not, it only has issue tracker so it become difficult for new comer to know the bugs in ROM. Can anyone tell me the least bugs cm9 & cm10 ROM and what are the bugs present.
4. Lastly, should I proceed like this!!
i. Root device (though method isn't clear to me)
ii. unlock bootloader
iii. install cwm (I guess I can do this using flashtool)
iv. backup current ROM along with kernel (for future use,I know its optional)
v. flash kernel using flashtool
vi. flash ROM through cwm.
I m a quick learner and I just need some guidance on this new device (double checking coz its my bro's device) . Looking forward for support. Thanks

You needn't root first if you want to unlock bl, just unlock bl and flash a custom kernel (in most custom kernels cwm is included).
Backup your rom and install the rom...
hmmm....
1. Unlock Bootloader........
2. Flash Custom Kernel (all custom kernel is per-rooted and have CWM).......
3. Boot into CWM and Flash CM9 or CM10 (factory format/wipe dalvik/cache).....
4. Boot into Fastboot And Flash FXP kernel for CM9 or CM10.....
xperia phones aren't like sammy, lg or htc where recovery is a separate partition from kernel. in fact, by default xperia phones doesn't even have "stock recovery" like on other phone. by that we integrate cwm in kernel ramdisk.
and to answer the question:
1- flash custom kernel mean't for your phone only, never ever flash kernel intended for other phone. and its done via fastboot and should be flashed before flashing rom.
2- like i said u can't compare xperia phone with other phone like sammy etc, its different. kernel must be flash via fastboot.
3- for cm10, bugs that i notice is slow accelerator, but fixable with some text editing, and non working front camera for lww and minipro.
4- should be like this, according to order:
- unlock bootloader.
- flash kernel via fastboot.
- boot into cwm.
- backup rom if u want.
- wipe data, cache and dalvik cache. don't wipe system partition or u will get error when flashing rom later.
- flash rom, and gapps if its cm/aokp/pa rom.
- profit :good:
thank you guys.... this made me clear...
one last thing :- which kernel should I flash on stock 4.1.B.0.587 which is pre rooted and have cwm after unlocking bootloader.I mean the one compatible with above firmware and also do I need to do anything with baseband or will it be compatible. After this m ready to enter the custom xperia world
Remember to backup your stock rom before unlocking the bootloader as everything will be wiped clear.

wt19a kernal rom compatibility

hi.
i have a "lww". im root. my model is wt19a 4.0.4 build 4.1.B.0.431 kernel [email protected] # 1.
can i flash any kernal for my phone? if no, does it have to be compatible by build or model?
First of all to install custom kernel You need to unlock bootloader. Not every phone can be unlocked, cause it depends if Your phone's bootloader unlock status is yes or no. You can check this in service menu (in dialer tap *#*#7378423#*#* [ *#*#SERVICE#*#* ] ) and go to Service Info and Configuration. There should be rooting status.
It's also good to make .FTF files from Your ROM to use them in flashtool BEFORE any modifications. Just in case http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075736

Thanks for the reply.
my bootloader says yes. now i thought the whole thing witht the bootloader was for rooting. like i mentioned before i am rooted. i have already made a backup of my stock rom if thats what you mean by making my own .ftf file. dude where is the thank you button?
Nope, rooting Your device will give You access to system partition, but it doesn't allow to change kernels.
Backup in .zip is fine, but I suggest to make a .ftf. It will help You to "unbrick" Your phone if something bad happen (cause if it's problem with ROM U have to flash any working ROM anyway, but if U unlock Your bootloader SUS and PC Companion won't work, so the only solution is to flash it using flashtool). Also .ftf will allow You to revert software to stock one, with branding, customization etc. (if U would like to use warranty for any purpose stock ROM and branding are necessary).
So if bootloader unlock status is yes - then U are able to unlock Your bootloader and install any custom kernel. Check this thread, it will help You with everything. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2148684

i found that thread last night thats why i posted this question.
my boot loader says yes. i also flashed cwm using recoverx.
just to be sure. with my phone software the i mentioned above ^^. using lets say flashtool i can flash any kernal rom combination even if it .587, or for lets say or the wt19i?
thanks again for the help.
No, not every combination will work And flashtool is used to repair phone, not to flash custom ROMs. There are some ROMs working on stock kernel (which U have now) - mainly based on stock .431 or .587 software. U can flash them using recovery (which U have now). To be honest I don't know what are the differences between wt19i and wt19a. But as a experiment (lol) I flashed baseband from SK17a into my SK17i and everything was ok. That's why I told U to create a ftf package, which will allow U to flash stock ROM if something went wrong.
So, for now:
If U would like install any ICS ROM (based on original Sony .431 or .587 compilation - You can try it right away.
If U would like to flash CyanogenMod ROMs (CM7.2 [android 2.x GingerBread], CM9 [android 4.0.x IceCreamSandwich], CM10 [android 4.1 JellyBean], CM10.1 [android 4.2 JellyBean], CM10.2 [android 4.3 JellyBean] ) and other based on it, U will have to unlock bootloader at the first place and then flash kernel suitable for Your device (LWW is coded as coconut) and then flash ROM.

im sorry i asked so much. as your aware im a noob. till now i only rooted/flashed a galaxy 5 (not s5). it was so easy.
i assume im going to use cwm to flash the kernel, am i wrong?
if not a tutorial link will be fine and ive got all the points. and this is one hard phone to customize. but i wanted the 1.ghz processor.
thank you like in a big way man.
CWM is used to backup Your ROM and install custom ROMs. To flash kernel U will have to use fastboot mode, and it has nothing in common with CWM. Check this thread, 2nd post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730874
