[Q] Eken T01 allwinner tablet CWM? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is CWM available for the Eken T01? I have posted this question several times on other boards and never got an answer either way. I just got this tablet and I have rooted it. However I would really like to make backups with CWM like I do with my phone because it has saved my butt more than once. LOL
Thanks so much for any input.

You can tell if its 'officially' supported by installing Rom Manager and letting it see if a recovery is available. If not you'll have to wait until official support (not likely) or a port.

I tried Rom Manager. It does recognize the model T01A but says it’s not officially supported. Then it asks if I have installed a clockwork based recovery manually.

Then the answer would be... no, unfortunately.

Ok thanks. At least now I know and won’t be searching the internet for info on it.

CWM recovery
Guys, I took the risk and I flashed this CWM recovery for Allwinner A10 Tablet to my EKEN T01A http://www.mediafire.com/?7664zjk4rhc7ba1
I have good and bad news.
The good news is: The CWM recovery was ported without any problem.
BUT
The bad news is: I can not navigate using the volume buttons and even touching the options did not work.
Hope some one can shed a light on this.
By the way, here the original recovery of our EKEN T01A just for comparison https://www.dropbox.com/s/q1ch82zugl88mix/recovery.img

I'm pretty sure that’s the same recovery I am using. I found that you can use a USB keyboard to navigate the menus. I have made a successful backup and actually used it. "I was experimenting with some scripts and got stuck in a boot loop"LOL Anyway the recovery process went smooth as silk. Admittedly it’s not the ideal process but hey...at least you can make a backup.
Also I found out today that there is a developer "Roger Calver" over at dragondevs.com that has just started working on a custom rom for the T01. The forum has just opened a section exclusively for the Eken T01. So looks like we’ll be getting some development going for this thing.

I just installed CWM for the scroll extreme on my T01 and it works great. Now the vol button works the menu. You use the power to choose and there is even a "back" option in the menu since the T01 doesn’t have a hard back button.

I found a link to a CWM for another tablet that was workable for my T01A. I found it on the website http://dragondevs.com/thread-80.html. I followed the instructions there and was able to load and use CWM.

I know this is an old thread but I had to pull my old Eken out because somebody wanted to by it. I cant find the scroll CWM anymore so I'll try this one.
Thanks

Uh oh. Link no linger works

Like I said I know this is an old thread but any chance you know where I can still get this?

Never mind. I found one. Sorry to trouble you.

[Q] Kuno tablet

I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!

Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?
this
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unrevoked+won't+find+my+kuno+tablet,+What+now?
I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

[Q] Ok... I pulled a bonehead play....

Well gang - I did it... I pulled a screwed up play on my BRAND new Galaxy S2 - I rooted it with a tool I found at http://galaxys2root.com - the phone is rooted with SuperUser access, but I'm unsuccessful at getting it into any kind of recovery mode.... THAT is when I learned I was using tools for the Galaxy S2 S9100 - NOT the SGH-I777 that I have.
The issue at hand is now that I realized my mistake, how do I proceed from here? I can't get the phone into any kind of recovery mode, and since I went the wrong way to start, I'm looking for the best advice... should I go backwards and make it stock to start from scratch, or can I proceed forward from here?
Thanks...
Your best bet is using odin go the main developer tread and look for unbrick odin from entrophy. Folow the directions there.

why would you use something from a website like that? not smart bro. just go to the dev forum and you'll find everything you need.
you'll have to use odin to flash a kernel with proper recovery.

You're right - it was a moron thing to do.... hence, the title of the email - I fully realize I pulled a bonehead play.
Can you provide specifics though? I've looked around, and frankly, I'm a little overwhelmed and unsure of what my next move should be. I downloaded odin, and don't quite know what to do with it yet... Just looking for a little specific help... I had great success with my HTC Inspire, so I'm not really newb, but I'm dealing with a new device and of course I'm ignorant and unashamed to ask for help.
Follow this guide:

That will return your phone to stock. Then you can start over. The sticky in this section has links to a lot guides.

I did the same thing less than a month ago (only I used his AT&T version.) I'm guessing your wifi doesn't work, correct?
To fix my problem I utilized the info posted by creepyncrawly here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18576627&postcount=1
I chose 2c to fix the phone, which had to be followed by booting into e3 and doing a factory data reset to get rid of the wifi issues.
To install clockworks mod and gain recovery options again I used the same thread by creepyncrawly and chose option 3c, which I used with Entropy's Daily Driver (currently running the latest version with no issues!) You can find that here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18129028&postcount=1
I'm now free to make my nandroid backups and flash custom roms to play with at will, hope their work helps you too!
Thanks a MILLION gang - going to work on this probably in the morning, I'm kinda fried from looking at the screen and banging my head against the desk most of the night.... my wifi is actually working fine - the phone works totally fine with SU access, I just want the ability to go to that next step.

Possible Unbrick Solution for Unrecoverable Bootloader & Wrong TWRP Flashes.

I found the following post while doing my daily read thru all the other forums and some people are saying that it has rescued them from wrong TWRP flash and Unrecoverable Bootloader errors.
I would try to do all the other methods available first but if you are completely bricked then you have nothing to lose.

Flumpster, I was going to start a separate thread to take my brick issues out of your dev thread and saw your thread here. So the option here is to reboot into fastboot, basically wipe everything and then flash the system blob from a stock ROM.
My main question is what if the person is on a TF300T bootloader, in my case 10.6.1.8. Would flashing the latest stock Asus JB ROM over 'system' for the TF200 replace the bootloader as well?

To answer myself, yes it does replace the bootloader. The latest ROM on Asus (from last Dec 2012) installs bootloader 1.00e ww_epad-10.4.2.18-20121122 a03
I installed stock TWRP 2.5.0 here for JB based on this thread and was able to get into TWRP and install the Hairybean Upgrade for 2.3, followed by the HB 2.3, and am now booting into the ROM. W00t! Great link in the OP flumpster.

When in recovery.
I just got a used prime and was trying to root/unlock/custom recovery/rom but I think I did something wrong.
This process seems a lot more delicate and volatile than my phone
I installed cwm through the CWM Rom Manager app after unlocking and rooting both of which went smoothly and device booted, and the device was properly rooted. After flashing recovery through CWM Rom Manager app I am ASUS boot screen
The one with "the device is unlocked" in the upper right corner and just sits in that state indefinitely. Can't do anything other than restart and get back to that screen. Any ideas?

Unfortunately you never read up on anything before attempting it. There are warnings everywhere on this forum saying not to use cwm on the prime and not to use rom manager and goo manager.
The last official version of cwm on the prime was for the ICS bootloader and if you flash that recovery onto jellybean bootloader then chances are you are going to brick yourself. Rom manager doesn't check what you are on and just installs the ICS version anyway. I reported this to Koush 2 years ago and he did nothing about it.
If you can't get to the bootloader or recovery by holding down volume down and power the same time and you also don't have nvflash backups then I am afraid that you are hard bricked.
There are only 2 options. Either pay Asus to fix it which will cost you more than you paid for it or you buy a motherboard off ebay or one with a smashed screen but still working and swap the motherboard out.
hypocritelecteur said:
Drat. Is there absolutely no chance, no method that might possibly work? No system dumps or backups or anything I can snag from another user to bootstrap my way back to functionality? I admit I jumped the gun here defs. I've been mucking with roms and hacks for android for years and never hard bricked anything and never run into a system this volatile. Didn't realize I was even being reckless! Just a different world I guess. This is however my first tab--are they in general more risky?

I know how you feel mate as before getting this tablet I have had numerous android devices and have had lots since and this is by far the easiest to hard brick. With other devices you can mess up but normally there is a method back in (odin etc) but Asus decided to tie it down completely.
The nvflash guys did a great job to make our devices brick proof but you have to make sure that you have your backups first. No one elses backups can be used. They are specific to your motherboard.
You can pick up motherboards quite cheap on ebay and someone here on one of the recent posts even put a tf300 motherboard in there instead as it was a lot cheaper ($50). They are basically the same machines anyway.
Was it unlocked when you got it ? If it was ask the original owner if he ever made nvflash backups.
tf201 maybe bricked

When in TWRP you should have adb access if you have the drivers installed.
Try.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to get you back to fastboot.
I managed to install original system blob. But what now? After start I have again four options, but my Prime is not booting into system or recovery. It always hang up on starting screen with ASUS logo or wit a dead robot.
Thank you.
---------- Post added at 09:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:06 PM ----------
ok, now I am totally bricked, I restarted my Prime and it is black, even backlight is dead. It only reacts to power button, when I hold it, it vibrates after a while.
Fastboot or ADB cannot contol it.
Dammit
Did you ever manage to get your system back?
I used ADB to make a backup of my TF201.
I couldn't get ROM manager to flash a new ROM - every time RM restarted the TF201 I simply got the screen The Device is UnLocked together with the graphical menu for Recovery, Android, USB and Wipe and it just sat there and did nothing.
Eventually, I pushed the CWM ZIP into /SDCARD/ renamed it to UPDATE.ZIP then tried rebooting to see if it would treat that like an OTA update - it didn't.
So then I chose the Wipe option. It sat there for ages with nothing happening.
So I then rebooted - now I get the The Device is Unlocked in the top left hand corner, the ASUS logo in the middle and the Powered by NVIDIA`TEGRA` in the bottom right but it does not boot - it is bricked!
My PC no longer sees it in ADB or FASTBOOT so I can't either flash something or restore my carefully taken backup.
It won't boot into anything other than the screen above - so the key combination for Fastboot doesn't work any more.
Prior to all this it was running stock 4.1.1 but was successfully rooted and had been like that for quite some time.
Any ideas?
Kind Regards
Steve

Hi Steve:
Well darn it, I'm another one with a completely bricked tf201. Without going into how I got there, I have the same situation as you... with "The Device is Unlocked" in the upper-left of the screen, "ASUS" in the center and "Powered by Tegra" in the lower right. If I boot with either just the power button, or the power botton and volume down, I get the affore-mentioned screen.
If I boot with power button and volume up, I get a completely black screen. I was very interested in whether you received a reply to your question?
I've noticed that the greater percentage of these questions, as I've described my system, remain unanswered. Not that I am complaining, but I am certainly interested in whether or not there is a remedy as of this date? I am not able to afford sending my tablet to ASUS, so would really appreciate any work arounds I could try.
Cheers man. Hope to hear from you.

Polaroid P10 Tablet

Not sure this is the right place to post this but here goes. I just bought a Polaroid P10 tablet today. I wanted to root it, but can't find any information available about this product except unboxing videos. Running Kitkat 4.4.2 Kernel 3.3
I found a root using towelroot, but when I click on the icon, it just opens up a page with code and doesn't do anything. I'm a total noob and don't know much about rooting, but people tell me it's the only way I can add my own content. Any help is appreciated. Please and Thanks
Not currently supporting the Polaroid P10 Device, unfortunately.

That's a shame. It's a nice tablet. Hopeful that someone will be able to get this thing rooted. Just so I'm clear about "rooting" all this really does is allow installation of apps and music and stuff that was not downloaded at the app store, right? I mean, I'm sure it does more than that if you're a hacker and know what you're doing, but for me, this is the only perk to rooting. I guess I can wait. I only paid 75 bucks for mine. It was 99 originally but 20 percent off and the cashier also gave me another discount cause she was cool. I will keep checking back here in case someone has some good news! I forgot to add that I cannot get my laptop to download the driver for the tablet when I try to connect it.
Er... I'm not sure if the tablet is different but on any other android device I've ever used you can do all of that without root. Feel free to look up "How to enable from unknown sources android" . All it takes is checking one little box in settings. for apps I personally prefer the app from aptoide.

OK, see I was mistaken about what rooting meant. The first tablet I ever had, I HAD to root to get access to the internal storage. I will try again with this one to even find the internal storage. BUT, I just got this tablet yesterday and already it's resetting itself when I turn it off. I will try to start it and it gets stuck on the loading screen for a while, then It will load and I have to re enter all the setup info. Pain in my a**. I'm taking it back to exchange for a new one in a couple days.

Well I have the Polaroid q10bt that I bought @ Menard's last week for $99 cpu z says it is a p10/q10/ptab1040/ptab1041 I think this is the same as big lots 4gig but mine is 8gig. It is a really nice tablet 4.4 kk quad core processor. But yes root would be really nice. I've tried using kingo root with pdanet driver, (no go) also tried iroot apk app & there PC program which are Chinese to root those failed. Also tried framaroot & even other Chinese root programs I found on YouTube those failed as well. So next I seen that CPU z said my q10 has a all winner a31 processor so I Google root all winner a31, found 2 different zip file apps that u run from update app using stock recovery but yet again those failed. CPU z says tablet is rooted but super su won't update the binary? Well that's all info I have. Hopefully we can work together & hack this bad beast lol! Thanks in advance ppl & have a blessed day! Ron.
I'm gonna try king root on this. It's another Chinese root method & they have apk app & PC version
Dont try Vroot or Kingo theyre malware
Here is working root for the Polaroid Q10/P10/etc. and possibly other 4.4 a31 tablets
Instructions
Make sure you have ADB installed and working for the tablet, it will work with standard ADB drivers, just look it up im too tired to tell you how to make ADB work
1. Make sure USB debug and Dev mode are on
2. Go to settings, backup & restore, then boot into recovery
3. In recovery select ADB sideload and then in cmd prompt type "adb sideload (path to .zip)" and let it update
4. Reboot and enjoy root
This was about 5-6hrs of experimenting, credit goes to those who made SU, Chainfire for SuperSu, etc.

yea NP
took me a bit to figure out what exactly the issue was
The other a31 root zips arent for 4.4 and dont install all the needed files and permissions for it to work properly in 4.4. I was working on it and remembered chainfire saying something about it a while ago so i found a script designed to install from stock recovery and modified it to work for our device. I might work on a recovery but cant make any promises.
also, once you have root be sure to lower your screen DPI to 120, it makes the UI a bit smaller and in general things tend to look a bit nicer at that DPI on a 1024x600 screen (that should be the screens native DPI)

So I shared your root method with a p10 thread over at www.freaktab.com but made sure to give u all credit for figuring it out. Since I tried all the other root methods but failed, SuperSU installed it self as a system app & wont uninstall & CPU z says tablet has root but SuperSU wouldn't update binary. So question can i still use your root method or would I need to do a factory reset either thru tablet settings or stock recovery. Thanks in advance & have a blessed day! Ron.

Hey so I actually just used the update app built Into system to boot into recovery & then I just flashed zip file from stock recovery, then cleared cache & rebooted. Then I updated su binary & was good to go. Do u think doing this way was OK being as I now have root or should I have done adb method & side loaded it or should I still attempt to do it that way. Also what do u think about over clocking stock CPU using no thrills CPU or do I need a custom kernel? Also do u think a custom recovery would work on this? Well thanks in advance for all your help & have a great day!!! Ron.

no if it worked that way is fine too :] w.e works for you to install i just listed the way i did it. as for overclocking dont set the CPU higher than 1.3ghz or itll lock up as we dont have the ability to adjust the voltage atm. Im working on tearing it down and seeing about updating the screen and getting an SD card to work on custom imgs.
I can tell you its using DDR3L 1333 cas latency 9 and is an Allwinner A31s so far, looking into the other chips to figure if its close enough the the A31 dev board to use the kernel source. Display idk yet, cant get the battery off safely as its glued down pretty tight but i think its the same as a tablet called the Q102. These might be just rebranded versions of those. If we can find a better display that works with the Q102 and a speaker that is the right size we could mod it for better sound and display. Im searching Aliexpress and alibaba for a display thats possible to use. I anyone can find another 10" tablet with a similar size and shape using an a31 with a better screen we might be able to do a transplant.
edit: added board pic, nand is toshiba tc58teg6ddkta00 and bt/wifi is Realtek RTL8723BS, the RT is used on some Rockchip boards so should be able to get drivers for it. Once i get an SDcard ill work on recovery and maybe a custom SDcard img as the hummingboard a31 kernel looks like it might have the power management stuff in it? not sure if the hummingbird a31 using hynix nand and ram will be an issue.
Well, managed to get stuck in recovery bootloop and cant get out of recovery. Im contacting southern telecom for the firmware img but we'll see if i can get it, device works just cant get past recovery xP

OK well that sucks, I knew this was a all winner a31 cuz CPU z said it was. Also if u live in the states us, I'm sure u could always get another donor testing tablet either 4 gig p10 from big lots $99 or 8 gig q10bt from Menard's. Well best of luck, thanks in advance for everything u are doing & have a great day. Ron.

Yea perhaps, but im not gonna ask for hardware donations because i got ballzy and didnt wanna wait for an SDCARD lol and i know we knew it was A31 just wanted to confirm because sometimes they lie and wanted to confirm if it was a31 or a31s
If they dont give me the img i will have to try either making a bootable SDCARD so i can write to nand or flash another tablets firmware and hope it works. I might be able to fix it if someone dumps their nand/partitions and then i could try and make a bootable SDCARD and write the stock recovery back in terminal. You can pull the partition imgs through ADB on a running system., probably shouldve done that before i tried to mod recovery lol wouldnt be so bad if i could get usb access in recovery but cant.
EDIT: Looks like im going to have to do the dishonest thing and exchange it at the store saying its broke as they told me there is no firmware available.

Hey no shame bud, lol menards takes anything back. Hey so I tried to change DPI resolution to 120 as u suggested. with 2 apps but they wouldn't work? Did I do something wrong? Also I purchased a really nice wired keyboard case for this tablet at menards it is hip street brand on clearance for $9.99

I used romtoolbox try that
Also i suppose it works out as its 50$ off so ill get an SDcard and work on a bootable SDcard fr nand restores in case something similar happens. Also word of warning, phoenixsuit doesnt seem to recognze the tablet for some reason, drivers work and all but in FEL mode you cant flash with phoenix it just fails. Number one priority is finding a bootable nand restore method from sdcard. Make sure not to try any other a31 imgs as you maybe soft brick it and not be able to recover.
So far this tablet seems to be pretty modable as long as we find parts that will fit/work. All the peripheral devices unplug easily the only difficult thing is the batter which is glued tight. I may have found 1280x800 IPS screen that'll work with it and looking at finding a better speaker.

Accidentally flashed wrong TWRP.

Hi all, I am new to this forum. Please don't mind if this was not the right place/section to start a thread. I was trying to gain more knowledge and trying to fix my tablet. I was looking to install TWRP (as I remember, or it was some bootloader I guess), but unfurtunately my device was not listed. So by looking up at the motherboard sticker and doing some research about the similar tablets on google. I felt that installing a specific version was a good idea. I followed steps listed on a site to flash it into tablet using adb, and by booting it in recovery mode.
It turned out to be a disaster for my tablet, which is now stuck at black screen and won't show anything. If anyone can please help me out to fix it, It would be highly appreciated.
My tablet's name is Waywalkers M9, 10.1 inch. Bought from aliexpress.

Hey,
Do not panic, all you need to do is install the stock firmware for that tablet, then flash it using odin app, and it should work again. You should find the stock firmware on google.
