[Q] HELP! Flashed CM 9 and GAPPS but STORE NOT WORKING - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Hi,
I am new to the forum and new to rooting/flashing mods as well. I have the AT&T version of the Galaxy S2. I just recently rooted and flashed the most recent CM9 nightly on my phone and everything worked great except a, what i hope to be, minor issue. When I first rebooted my phone after the flash, everything looked great but It was apparent my GAPPS zip had not installed correctly as I couldn't see my e-mail or the Play Store (obviously I'm needing to recover things). I re-flashed GAPPS, rebooted, and I saw the Play Store and my e-mail. My problem is when I opened the Play Store, it got stuck on the sign-in. It eventually signed in, I guess (my account has a check by it if I select "manage accounts"). SO, i'm signed in but nothing is loading. I cannot do any searches or retrieve apps. Baiscally, I can't use the Play Store. My phone works fine, otherwise, and it seems the rom flashed cleanly. I followed every instruction very carefully. Please help! I need to retrieve my backup from Titanium and use the market. Don't even have my wi-fi at this point! Thank you in advance if someone can respond quickly.

Post in Q/A subforum next time.
Try Settings -> Applications -> Google Play Store -> click both clear cache and clear data. If that doesn't work you could always try reflashing.

Now it's having trouble upgrading from "market" to "Play Store". When I go to settings > apps > running, it appears and disappears and I cannot edit anything in it =\. I just re-flashed and I did so without wiping data, is this correct? Should I move this to the sub-forum, or can you just help me out?

I would think a reflash without wipe should be okay, but who knows. I would say close the app manually, try clearing data and cache again, launch once, sign in when prompted and let it load the home page. Then exit the app and don't touch the app for a few mins. I've found that letting it settle by not touching it for a few mins as it tries to update will allow it to update correctly, you'll see the icon change to the play store. Again, if that doesn't work, then do a full wipe and flash again.
P.S. I'm no expert on this subject, just suggesting things to try.

[Q] Can you reinstall apps from google play?

Recently my Samsung Galaxy Mini went into a boot loop. To solve this, I had to factory reset the phone, deleting all my apps. When I log onto google play, and navigate to my previous apps, it says they are still installed, and won't let me reinstall them. Is there any way round this?
Thanks
how about the backup?did you always backup app?
if not,i think you can redownload using another website like appbrain...after that you can automatic update from google play..this is just my thought
Also you can enter to Play Store from your PC, and install all the apps that you need (clicking on the Install button, the app will be installed in your phone).
my android apps
go to Google play and my android apps on right hand side or hit this link https://play.google.com/apps
it will show you all the apps that u have installed on your phone, now click on app one by one and click on install button through web, in this way you can install the apps that u have loose
please press thank you button if u like this.
The thing is, when I go to "my apps", it says I already have them installed, when I don't. The install button is greyed out.

I had the same problem. The solution is simple however. I'm using Cyanogenmod for my rom. It turns out you have to download and install the google play apk.
As soon as I rebooted, I was asked for my Google account and once I entered the information, everything, including my apps, automatically downloaded and installed. Of course, it's important to note that I backed up my account to my Google account. I highly recommend this.
So, I think if you just find the gapp.apk for your rom, you'll be ok.
Hope that helps,

[SOLVED] Play reverted to Market, can't download apps

Hi there
I hope someone can help me or give me a pointer. The short story is that Google Play has reverted to the Android Market (v2.3.4) and I can't download anything from the Market.
The longer story is this...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, bought sim-free over a year ago, running Android 2.3.3. Yesterday I had a problem with Google Play not being able to download some apps. This was clearly wrong: I had 1.5GB free of 16GB. In the course of trying to fix this (ha!), and trying to find recovery mode, I borked the device further. Google Play reverted to Android Market v2.3.4, and some apps got messed up in random ways and consistently crashed. I uninstalled some of the crashing apps, but I still cannot download anything from the Market in order to reinstall them.
I've cleared cache and cleared data for various apps and services: Market, Download Manager, Google Play Services (odd that that's still there), Google Services Framework, and maybe some others.
The problem with the Market is that when I touch to download an app it readies itself for the download (moving diagonal lines on the progress bar) and then the progress bar disappears as if it's finished. There is no download, and certainly no install, but no error message either. On the other hand my web-based Google Play account says I've just downloaded it. And meanwhile my web-based Google Play account says there are no devices associated with my account.
Given the situation with Market, I can't even download something like MarketFixer which may help. I can sideload apks, but I can't find a (legitimate-looking) apk like MarketFixer to download.
I've never rooted my device, so I don't expect to have to do that to fix this. Before do a factory reset, does anyone have any ideas?
Many thanks
Nik
Update: Solved in thread below
ah darn!! i thought i could help you, up until the point where you said you didn't root . If you rooted then you could just install the latest version of google play

Thanks for even thinking of that, dragid10.
Hmm... theoretically, if I routed, where would I get the latest version of Google Play from? I can't access the Market, after all.
There are a few threads in the apps forum here on XDA one is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932489
I also don't think you need to be rooted to install it. Just make sure you turn on unknown sources from settings(either under applications or security)
Also have you tried uninstalling updates for the market or removing your Google account from your phone and re-adding it.
Edit:Updated thread URL original one was a closed thread.

nsmith4, thank you. That's moved me a bit forward. I couldn't find a Google Play apk, and now I've got Google Play back on my device, and the web version of Google Play knows about my device again.
(I did try to delete my Google account and it refused me. It said it was needed by some applications and should do a factory reset instead!)
So now it seems I'm back to my original problem: I (still) can't download any apps from Google Play because it says (wrongly) there's insufficient space on device. I shall keep looking for an apk of MarketFixer or similar. This problem is now the same as the one reported here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436188
although of course I cannot download MarketFix to help me fix the market.
Update: That install of Google Play didn't stick. When I rebooted the phone it took me through the Android initiation process (asked for Google username and password) and Market was back in place of Play.
Looks like a problem with factory resetting every time you restart. That is a bigger problem. Google Play will automatically update itself (all update to com.android.vending will).
Try taking the ICS update (if you haven't already), you need a fresh install of the OS. Or you can root and install a ROM. Same thing

You say you "borked the device further". The question is, what happened? What did you do, and what got borked, in what way? If you don't even know, then it will be difficult or impossible to repair. The easiest and fastest solution will be to install a fresh ROM, like Gagdude said.

gagdude, post-mortem: No, I didn't keep a careful record of what I did. The "borking" is a combination of the problems listed above. I'm going to do a factory reset and upgrade to ICS, as suggested, thanks. Will keep you posted.
Mid-point update: Successfully factory reset my phone (Volume up + Power on, factory reset, then reboot). Now my SIM card isn't recognised (sigh).
The same problem, but with a different device, is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344576
It appears as if my modem software is messed up. The saga continues.
Solved! SIM working again.
...And miraculously it's solved!
I flashed a new ROM onto the device -- ICS, which is very shiny and new to me -- using Odin, and it came back to life perfectly. Useful links were:

Help with Play Store error!

Hello I am new to this forum,
I have a Rooted Galaxy S4 Mini, and I had a custom patch of the Play Store installed, but I just hated the icon and didnt notice any difference between the custom patch and the original version of the Play Store so I decided to go back to the original one and uninstalled the Custom one and installed the regular play store and when I did, I opened it and it started loading and showed me the Terms of Service once more but suddenly the little window with the Terms disappeared and the Play Store froze. Soon after it just crashed and a message saying it had stopped appeared. And this just repeats itself everytime I try to open it, It wont even let me tap accept or decline. I tried installing previous versions of the Play store and the same thing happens, tried clearing cache & data and reboot, didnt work, tried clear cache, data, then force stop and reboot and got nothing. tried doing this to Google Play Services, services framework and play store, nothing. I even tried uninstalling updates of Google Play services and all of this steps again. But nothing. And yes, my download manager is enabled. I was so desperate I decided to back everything up with Titanium backup and then I did a factory reset. When it turned on and I configured it, there was no Play Store in my apps. So I manually installed ES File Explorer and Titanium backup to restore my phone and my backup wasnt there unfortunately so I installed Play Store manually too and I got the same error! And now I got to personalize everything again and download all the stuff I had back in so it would be nice to at least get the Play Store working again, please help me!
Sorry for long post please give me some of your time and help me
Thanks
Hi Toby,
Welcome! Unfortunately, you're in the wrong forum. This forum is specifically for the Galaxy S4, Verizon version. If you go back to forums, you can look through the list and find a forum closer to your model.
That being said, I am not sure where this post should go. Maybe a moderator can point that out...
If no one comes to your aid, PM me and I'll send you a link to a Google Play Store zip file to install.
Thanks for your help and sorry about that I am new to this forum

[Q] "googple play store stopped working" because...

Hello guys, been looking around but the same "solutions" keep coming back but are useless for me.
First the problem : what I encounter is that "stopped working" crash message everytime I launch the play store, or 3 times in a row when I launch an app that has to check something in the store when launched.
Though I tried the "clear cache and uninstall updates" from the settings app section, it allows me to launch the play store but crashes again after less than a minute.
1 important thing I noted : I had 4 apps to update, 2 small ones, which updated wthout trouble (when I was able to get into the store after clearing cache) and 2 heavy ones which made the store crash without updating right after the message "heavy app blabla prefer wifi over data to update" popped up.
So voilà friends, in advance sorry because there are loads of similar threads, but I was wondering if this may be z2 related or not at first (+the fact that i can't find anything even though I browsed through lots of threads). It has been a week since i'm in this situation.
All advices are welcome. Thanks in advance.
Are you on stock rom, if so rooted / unrooted?
rooted, stock rom, bootloader still locked so nothing has been flashed, only a couple of Xposed modules are installed and working perfectly

First step I'd take would be to disable all xposed modules, reboot clear play store cache and data then reboot again and see if that makes any difference.
And? @true2you

Aaaaand you're thanked! Finally had the time and tryed with and without the modules, one by one and Indeed it was one of them:
--> "OBB to SD" is the module in question. Completely replaced it with "folder mount" (which is not a module but an app - had both at first) for the installation of apps to the SD card. Works like a charm, The play store works flawelessly and all the awaiting updates executed just fine.

[Guide] How to fix any broken Play store

Hello everyone reading this!
I found out that no one really has a solution how to fix a broken play store. Many people are saying "reinstall it" or "factory reset your phone" but this wasn't really a solution for me.
Reinstalling only did it worse because then i kept getting a "Play store stopped working" popup so after a week of trying things i finally found the solution.
So if you don't have Play store anymore or it just stopped working then you should try this out!
First try these things and after that try the solution that is in green:
1. First uninstall substratum if you have it (it sometimes breaks the play store)
2. Try reinstalling the play store but get the apk from apkmirror because it's safe there and don't get the newest version. Get an little older version. I always take 13.x.xx. It has more success rate than 14.x.xx.
3. Try deleting dalvik cache
4. Try installing it as system by moving the apk to /system/app with the correct permissions (rw-r-r, root:root)
DON'T FORGET A NANDROID BACKUP IN THE GREEN SOLUTION!
I accidentally deleted my Play store and couldn't reinstall it. This was the only solution that worked for me. You CAN use it on a stock rom where play store and play services was preinstalled. It will still work.
FINAL SOLUTIONIf these 2 things didn't work then go to the opengapps site, download the gapps app and open it. It should automatically select the correct things for your phone. In the variant select "Pico" and press download. After that hit install and it should send you to your custom recovery and it should automatically install it. You are basically done.
I hope i could help anybody. I literally searched a week for an solution and there weren't any. So i am the first to introduce the new way to fix the play store.
