Hi
I recently got the Samsung Galaxy S2 and upgraded to ICS via odin.
I HATE the Samsung Touch Wiz UI so I wanted to flash the Spike Pure ICS ROM - v7.2
I followed every step on this tutorial http://www.theandroidsoul.com/pure-ics-rom-android-4-0-3-for-galaxy-s2-i9100/ a zillion times but dint help!
I get my phone n ICS - root is successful; but every time i flash to the Spike Pure ICS ROM i brick my phone and get a message - KERNEL UPLOAD PANIC MODE
can someone please help me out?
My Android version is 4.0.3 and build number is ICS.XXLP2
If there is another ROM with pure ICS i can flash easily with odin.. or any other help I would be very glad..
thanks
after wiping all from CWM, flash a GB stock rom from ODIN,
then root it with CF-root, then install your favourite ROM

TAR will be the CF root
Not rom loader app....from CWM, after you flash CF-root, you will get an application called CWM open that and select reboot into Clockworkmod, then you will get Clockworkmod recovry from there you have to do wipes/installs...
see what is downloadmod and recoverymod in my signature....

if you just want root (without CF kernel)
just use the usual updt.zip via recovery
it work
if you need the file (root and unroot zip available)
http://www.mediafire.com/?44ehnfx3ecoqeb3
*for some reason only work with stock recovery and not CWM (might need to mount system??)

I already tried this one but no success. I encountered error message upon flashing. I think its not compatible with CWM 4.0.0.9. I got the file here => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
Anyway, if you have the root file compatible with this, kindly send the link. Thanks fella

I think if you format all the partitions correctly in rfs manually (either using CWM or other tools) it should be fine
kinda risky..because dont know how to..
maybe ill just flashed asian xxjlc which is on full package 2.2.1..
then one package dxkc1 asian also then the kpd one package..
is that safe?
hope so..
this is the link to downgrade..is this safe also for us using cm7.1?

You will need stock recovery for the upd_1 method. Flashing apboot of the firmware using Odin should revert the recovery I think?

What's wrong with using cwm? You'd probably need one once you root.

I've got an MDK S4 that I rooted using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798
I read the entire thread about the Verizon version of PhilZ Touch you Loki patched, ebsk8er06, but it's still unclear. It says I should be running a tar.md5 file in the PDA section of Odin, but this is a zip file. I can't seem to find anything Odin recognizes from this zip file (either zipped or unzipped).
I'm confused.
I don't know if any of this is pertinent, but here are some specs;
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I545VRUAMDK
Kernel version: 3.4.0-562219
Build number: JDQ39.1545VRUAMDK

Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand things, here. Maybe I'm just confusing myself, but I feel like I'm getting conflicting information here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
The #4 post by Phil3759 on that page says this;

If you are intending to flash a new custom rom staight away their is no need to root your phone because custom roms come already rooted. Also if you install PhilZ recovery it as a option to fix root in settings just select the option reboot then download supersu from play store done.
