Hi,
This is one of those crazy days in which questions keeps popping up, and so I create my second thread. :/ Anyways ...
For starters I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus with ICS 4.0.4, and my computer is an Apple MacBook with Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I was about to go to bed, and wanted to transfer some new wallpapers to my phone via the USB cable. I got error messages when I tried to transfer the files, and noticed that an unrecognized corrupt file appeared when I replugged my phone (several times). After a few retries I decided to restart my Nexus and try again. However, after I had restarted, I observed that my Wallpaper folder (with all my wallpapers) was gone.
It's not a big issue, as they're only wallpapers. However, it might happen again with something more critical, and I'd like to figure this out. I'm an avid Linux user for years, using Gentoo Linux as my main operating system. So I don't mind getting down and dirty, if that's necessary.
My first thought is that it still might be on the partition / SD card / whatever the Nexus has, and I might retrieve it by going down on the file system via adb and fs-tools; if that's even possible.
Any input on how I'm to solve this is greatly appreciated.
Here's a follow up:
Doing anything with ADB was of course limited by the tools I had installed on the device, which gave me almost nothing. Except I could confirm that the folder was definitely not visible (or hidden). Additionally I checked the summed size of /sdcard up against what the system is reporting, and there's about 375 MB which is accounted for but invisible. :'(

Today I tried to flash the CyanogenMod 9 Nightly 06-30-12, coming from Build 35 of AOKP and after factory resetting and clearing Dalvik I went to install the zip and while flashing it I got a build-prop related error!
All of my NANDROIDS gave me a data error when flashing and now I am pretty f'd! I /really/ need to fix this ASAP but have no idea how.

-CWM 4-
On a second note, does anywhere know where I can get my screen replaced for cheap? I dropped my tab a few months back and the screen got MAJOR cracked, though it still does technically work (I still use the screen, it works but it's cracked is all...) and after calling Samsung and waiting for over 1 and a half hours they told me they wanted $150 to fix it, which if I recall is about half of what I payed for it anyway...
To be honest, I'd be lying if I said I was happy with Samsung over all.
I mean, bad customer support, the proprietary connection cable, and lack of official updates (along with the ugly TouchWiz that I'm not sure /who/ likes ) don't make me that happy...
Anyway, can anyone help me please?
Thanks in advance!
Update your recovery: http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/?p=2655
If you have a GT-P7510 (p4wifi), in this post are flashable zips (with your current recovery) of CWM and TWRP, in case you prefer this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28051448&postcount=29
After that, flash your ROM like always.
Yeah, thanks, were it so easy. I fired up ODIN multiple times, no matter what, unsuccessful. Like always, my computer would not recognize my tablet. Yes, I have the bloody Samsung drivers, yes I've tried reinstalling them (several times in the last few months), yes I've tried using different USB ports! And what? Nothing. Nothing at all. For the last few months I have not been able to transfer movies/music to my tablet via file transfer and I can't even get the stupid odin download thing to work. To be honest, I really am pissed off with this broken pile of trash. Would trade it in for a similar tablet any time.
Did you try any of the flashable zips for a new recovery?
About the USB, it sounds like a different problem, but for the file transfers, are you sure you have MTP selected? (answer #5 --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642009 )
If you haven't tried it yet, you could use a different computer, another OS (some Linux distro and check that adb works), change the USB cable.
I can't use a flashable zip since I can't copy files onto the tablet >.>
Also, yes, for file transfers I /do/ have MTP selected always and it doesn't work eitherway.
Essentially, I am stuck with a $300+ ugly and broken thing that I can only use as a paperweight for the huge mess I call my desk. Yay.
>Rage sidenote; Samsung, go take the money I payed for **** and shove it.
And I guess you don't have your old ROM (AOKP build 35) in your tab.
Try with adb (in recovery), but if you can't get a working USB connection (using other computers or OS), maybe there's something physically wrong with your tablet.
No, I don't. I'm stupid enough to delete the ROM zip after flashing it to save space on the tablet...
How do I do this ADB thing? I've heard of it before alot but never used it or looked into it...
Read this: for windows -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1387527 , for Ubuntu -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=921169
After everything is installed, boot your tablet into recovery and try running in your command line application (CMD for windows):
adb devices
If it shows that a device (and ID number and the actual state, e.g. recovery) is connected, your golden!
If you have another android device, try it too, to be sure that is working.
To transfer a file the command is
adb push /path/to/file /path/in/tablet
In windows I guess is something like this:
adb push C:\path\to\file /path/in/tablet
so I'd do something like
adb push C:\ADB\CWM-5.5.0.4-p4wifi.zip mnt/sdcard/ ?
Im dling the ADB files right now
adb push C:\ADB\CWM-5.5.0.4-p4wifi.zip /mnt/sdcard/
You need the slash at the star and end of the path of the tablet.
While installing PdaNet it failed, said it couldnt connect through to the device or w/e
Also,I don't recall having ADB on when I had the tablet. I might've but I don't think I kept debugging on for the general time...
This is so frustrating >.>
I'm not sure about that error in PdaNet, I can help you with adb but I don't use Windows, so there's things I can't test.
If you didn't select ADB debugging in your ROM it doesn't matter, you're doing this from recovery.
BTW, do you have other android device?
adb seems to be working and copying, but I can't find the file in Recovery while doing choose a zip to apply!
Yes, I have an LG Optimus V on Virgin Mobile running tdm's AMAZING Quattrimus Alpha 10 on Ice Cream Sandwich/ Android 4.0.4
this is what I get
C:\Users\Mikoyan Gurevich\Desktop\LG Drivers>adb devices
List of devices attached
43C800340009517 recovery
C:\Users\Mikoyan Gurevich\Desktop\LG Drivers>adb push C:\CWM-5.5.0.4-p4wifi.zip
43C800340009517\sdcard\download
1328 KB/s (4147569 bytes in 3.048s)
C:\Users\Mikoyan Gurevich\Desktop\LG Drivers>
If you connect your phone and execute
adb devices
What's the output?
If you do the same with your tablet, what's the output?
with the tablet it's
C:\Users\Mikoyan Gurevich\Desktop\LG Drivers>adb devices
List of devices attached
43C800340009517 recovery
with my phone it doesn't wanna show up in Recovery or not.... Hmm.
Well, it shows fine, then you should be able to transfer the files
First, in your recovery, go through the steps to install some zip file, but just go as far as selecting the directory, then go back
Now in your PC try running something like this, change your path in windows:
adb push C:\CWM-5.5.0.4-p4wifi.zip /sdcard/
The in your recovery, select install and should show there. The thing is that most likely the sdcard wasn't mounted in your tab
Edit, to mount your sdcard in recovery do: mounts and storage > mount /sdcard > Go back
The do the transfer in your PC.
Hmm
While I was holding it to my gut, pushing the end of the cable into my stomach (It was the only way to get it to be recognized) I fooled around and went into download mode, hoping that on the contrary I could do that, turn it off, and when I went back into Recovery it would be there when it finally said the cable WAS connected and then I rushed to open Odin and wrote it through, and it frickin' wrote CWM v5 right on and it worked, I'll be damned!
Maple, I can not thank you enough for helping me with this, I am in great debt.
You're welcome, I'm glad it worked. Knowing how to use adb is really useful. And now you know that something is wrong with your cable.
Or in the connector pins or w/e of the tablet... The cable works fine for charging though....
You are my savior, bro.
This is one of the strangest problems I have ever encountered, so be prepared to be stumped.
I have many android devices, as you can see in my sig. Lately, I have been having problems with pulling files off of all of my devices., Here's what happens.
Say I use mybackup pro. I create a backup of my apps and their data on 9-6-2013. Then I create one on 9-7-2013. If I plug in my device on 9-8-2013, and attempt to copy the 2 backups I made, not all of the files will transfer to my computer.
Guessing that the files are corrupt or something, I deleted them. I create a new backup on 9-8-2013. HOWEVER, when I plug the device back into my computer (doesn't matter which machine), Explorer still shows me the OLD files that I deleted off of the device! It appears that something is caching my device's filesystem but I cannot clear that cache or refresh the device's content list.
This happens with all of my computers and all. of my Android devices. The only similarity is that I am running Windows 7. That's it.
Can someone help me please diffuse this problem?

----------------
Ah did some more digging around. It appears it's this known bug.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=38282
Solution for now is to reboot before using MTP to copy files off the tablet. Simple enough workaround for now.
Thank you for the reply, even if the thread was necro'd, Lol! At least I finally got an answer
Hello,
I have bought an Acer E380 about two months ago, and I rooted it two days later.
It was (afair*) always on 4.4.2, and I never had problems with it.
But about a week ago, I installed the popcorntime app from the official said website (Horrible app, torrent downloader is slow and often breaks, if you restart your phone the 'checking files...' goes on forever,...) and said app, that was downloading a file, crashed and would not let me restart a download because of "insufficient space".
I tried deleting said file, unusable but full size, thanks to that useless torrent client, and it kept coming back.
I could not edit the SD card files from another computer with linux, and windows would straight out not recognize it.
After wiping it with gParted, it worked fine on both windows and linux, but android started screwing with my root.
Some apps like linux deploy would not be able to write, impossible to copy a file from the phone's memory to the card, and much more...
But it strangely worked fine with "normal" apps without root access!
After opening a terminal, I made a quick dummy file and tried to copy it to sdcard0, worked fine.
I then tried to proceed the exact same way with superuser rights, and it threw some Endpoint errors as well as just "Read-Only Filesystem"
Does anyone knows what's going on, and how can I fix this mess?
Hello,
I'm having an odd issue with Remix OS for PC, and wanted to see if anyone else experienced this and hopefully found a resolution. Please see the bottom of the thread for info on my PC setup. My laptop is definitely more than powerful enough to handle remix, and it used to run fine, but now I seem to have the following issues after not booting into Remix for a while:
***Wifi does not automatically connect, it only connects if I click the wifi icon in the tray (then it connects to my network automatically)
***Nearly all apps will not open, including the Settings app. I'll click on an icon on the desktop, and the icon lights up, registering my click, but the app never opens and the icon stays lit as if something froze. However, I can still "swipe" from the left desktop to the right one, and vice versa.
***When attempting to install an app (Eventually, without any rhyme or reason that I've noticed, I can open the Play Store and maybe the settings app), the app hangs on Installing after it downloads. I've tried waiting a good 20 minutes, but I know the apps install much quicker on this laptop, and I've tried this with small apps.
***Similarly to the above, clicking the Remix OS menu button does nothing as well.
With those symptoms in mind, it seems like there's something holding the system back, but the actual GUI performance is fine. For example, there's no lag or hesitation when an app finally eventually opens or when I click around through the Settings app (when it finally opens). It doesn't seem to only be with graphic intensive apps either, as I tried a simple text/memo app and when that one eventually opens, the desktop background is black and the app window is black with only a menu near the top.
My attempts to fix it
So far, I've tried running an e2fsck -f data.img command to repair the data.img file. It didn't appear to report any issues and the problem did not go away. I've rebooted the thing about a billion times, no luck! Getting into the Settings app is hit or miss and I haven't really had any idea of what setting might help, and installing third party apps appears to not be an option either.
The only other option I could think of would be to backup my data.img and reinstall the OS, and then restore the data.img file, but this seems like it will restore the problem with it. Also, I haven't experienced any problems in Windows, so I don't think there is any issue with the drive. Sorry for such a long thread, just wanted to be detailed!
Any ideas are much appreciated!
My PC: Lenovo Ideapad y510p
Windows OS: Windows 10 64-Bit
Remix OS for PC: 3.0.207 dual booted with the above Windows 10 installation
Hard Drive: 500GB SSD drive
RAM: 16GB
I don't have any of those issues. My issues are a bit different...
I can't seem to find a copy of RemixOS 3.xx that actually has "true" root access. I know there is a method you can use to remount the volume as r/w, but since I am running it from a flash drive, I apparently cannot access any of the system files in Windows with hidden files and folders visible. And, after first boot the USB drive running the OS will somehow end up with a corrupted "REMIXOSDATA" partition.
Good luck on your quest.

Thank you for the response! In reading the issue you're having, I'm wondering Remix OS for PC, in its current state, is more susceptible to corruption issues in under some circumstances rather than others. When I first installed it, I installed the 64-bit version and I kept having issues where I'd boot it up and it suddenly would not start. I found somewhere on a forum where someone recommended to just use the 32-bit version and the issue went away for a long time, until I had the issue described in my original post. I'm wondering if it just isn't stable enough yet to be run from a flash drive, as it seems to me like it has issues with being easily corrupted.
This brings me to my next comment, I was able to fix my issue! I tried a couple things that didn't work, reinstalling Remix and then choosing YES to erase the entire virtual drive, then copying a backup of my original data.img back into the directory so I don't have to reinstall everything. This didn't fix the issue, so instead I downloaded the 64-bit version and installed it, but this time I chose NO on the prompt to erase my data.
Upon booting into Remix, it gave the standard Android message about optimizing apps and is now running good. I wish I did this workflow with the 32-bit version, as I'm wondering if it would have worked. I suspect I'll experience the same issues I originally experienced with the 64-bit version.
Anyway, I hope this may shed any light on how you can try to resolve your issue. Good luck!
Hello,
So I need help with completely wiping a linux partition on my android SM-a137f (and computer) that has been there for privacy invasion reason/spying etc by someone at my work.
------------Skip to the bottom part for phone only part, the rest is about the computer issue , both related however as they infect each other and i see the same linux filesystem and patterns on both---------
I never used Linux before and I tried fighting this "trojan" in windows on my computerand fatigued myself after the 50th low level formatting, not understanding how it can just come back, plus self learning, if i use an antivirus that works decent, like install it within 2 minutes after formatting before it activates, it gave me a lifespan of +20 minutes perhaps, next time i did that, it had injected it and just spawned like 10 processors of it to lag me down. Plus installing these fake drivers, meaning it infected my kernel.
So as i dived in to the world of Linux i got my hands on rescuezilla, which is based on ubuntu, things started to clear up, very sophisiticated work, and insane. Looping stuff, a squash filesystems that is impossible to remove, and i mean impossible in my book, thats why i come here, because if you are going to suggest any permission changing command or unmount command, don't - i tried every single one in the book and it won't budge.
It's not even an I (i forgot what I stood for) in the permission, it's only like cr- r ---- r-- or something, two or three 3's
The overlay starts with a /cow and holds everything.
Since this will perhaps be a police matter unless he agrees to replace the devices this has killed (phone, im on my third now, computer and a very secure router) and I have more than enough evidence including a perfect clone of the whole harddrive of my work computer and laptop.
Anyway - i dont care about any data, wipe all, and more if possible. Its my 85th time formatting anyway so, i just can't get rid of it. It's "base" is the X: partition which would be the recovery one I believe, in windows. And it mounts itself as a ddrom and/or ram, virtual, but not virtual. Every program i've said has stated it's a virtual, and when i try anti-virtual removal stuff, it says its not a virtual disk. Read only that nothing can remove in windows at least, forget diskpart etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------Phone---------------------------------
I am willing to pay for proper help on this.
I just rooted it and I want to wipe that whole kernel on this phone. Not a factory reset - a clean wipe. Not a single file left. Is that possible? Or how else do I get rid of all of that stuff, I mean, there is a problem whe 280 system apps has on average 60 permissions each, up to 400.
Thanks a lot for any input in advance. I can't stress how much of a mental toll this has taken on me as i've been on this for 1 month straight not doing anything else. Since it's about my privacy, and It seems I've had one for the past 2 years with my every footstep, thing ive written or said, even a sleepshedule has been monitored.

According to the OP, their computer is attacked within seconds of them logging in. Any antivirus only lasts a few minutes. Can't low level format the disk, because the attacker puts BIOS and virtual wifi spots into the UEFI partition, hacked their router and cell phones numerous times as well.
And they claim to know who this is, have a mountain of evidence but somehow won't go to the police with it. Search for the op's name and the keyword linux. They're carpet-bombing forums with paranoia.
