GB Bootloaders without Odin/Heimdall ?? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any ways to flash bootloaders without odin/heimdall? Perhaps like update.zip?
I had a bad SBL flash and heimdall will not detect and odin just hangs when attempting to flash any BL solo.
Before you flame or try to be Cpt Obvious I did search the forum but may have missed it...we are human.

No unfortunately there isn't bc it goes much deeper in the system than an update.zip can reach. Have you tried to Odin to 2.1 and get it to boot? 2.1 has Froyo bl's, so theoretically once you boot up, you should be able to flash a GB bl. Maybe your download got corrupted too.

I have successfully flashed to JFD with a heimdall one-click. I could even root, use CWM and I have flashed a custom rom. BUT....it still wont detect in heimdall and odin still hangs. Im typing this post from the device using bionix v3 fishman. I wanted to throw ICS on here to check it out. But I know GB BLs are step 1. I have a jig so getting DL mode isnt an issue.

Please help, cant find fix for this. boots into clockwork recovery w/voodoo

Im not sure if im soft bricked or what. tried to flash back to stock tmo vibrant from nero v3 with voodoo with odin but i forgot to turn voodoo off. now it boots into cwr with voodoo. says voodoo is off but no voice to say its deactivating. I can still get into download mode. not sure what to do. please help the stupid noob lol
Were you trying to flash back to true stock 2.1? If so you'll have to flash a 2.1 kernel. If you didn't disable voodoo you'll have to use Odin. Look in the directory (bible), first post in the development section. There are noob friendly guides to help you out.

Flash back to stock is what you will need to do. Look in the bible. To be safe, you may need to flash back to Eugenes' froyo that doesn't brick 1st, then flash back to stock. This rom can be found on his site eb-productions.com
There is an "All in one" zip that has the: stock rom, .pit, the computer driver (from samsung) and odin all zipped up together. Find that and then the froyo that doesn't brick and you will have a complete repair package.
It's not hard and this is faster than f-ing around trying some "maybe this will work" scenario..........
awesome!! back on stock 2.1-update 1 thanks again guys. will be more careful next time!

If your hardware is locked then you can't get into download mode and consequently not being able to go to stock. To know if you're hardware locked, take the SD card and SIM off, now insert back the battery while pressing the volume buttons and plugging in the USB cable. This should get you to the yellow download screen.
And yes, you don't have to be rooted to go back to stock 2.2, you can use Odin to and flash JK2.
Oh and yes you can unroot with superoneclick. I think there's an option there next to root if Im not mistaken.
Thx for replying fast.=)um if I use superoneclick to unroot sill it go back to stock 2.1 or cm7 the Tom I'm using nw?sry real noob here..just got my vibrant last week n screwed it.=_=
Is there any other way to downgrade/replace cwm 3 to 2 other then flash to stock?Thx really much.=D

No, unrooting doesn't effect your rom/kernel. And no there isn't any other way right now, sadly.

For the thousand times, rooting/unrooting doesn't change whatever rom you're on. Regardless of what that maybe. If you do as per the guide you'll be ok, check the youtube video and do as he does, it aint rocket science.
Besides, JK2 aint called "Froyo that doesn't brick" for nothing
im stuck with the same probelm,
if i'll flash a 2.2 kernel on top will it restore/enable the option to flash other 2.2 roms using clockworkmod?

1. Have a 2.2 rom on your SD card
2. Download the file attached at the end.
3. Put it on your sd card
4. When you get to CWM, click apply update.zip from sd card, you should then find yourself in CWM 2.5.1.2 where you can flash 2.2 roms.

froyo with GB bootloader to CM7

hi,
can i flash CM7 on GB bootloader ?
I'm just having a hard time rooting my phone(usb problem, but i can get to download mode) after going back to stock.
I'm right now on 2.3.4 ROM(non CM7).
You can flash it, but you wont have access to your external sdcard.
And before you go to CM7, Odin the froyo bootloaders, then Odin back to jfd, then flash CM7.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
doesnt taking the external out and putting it into 1 of them usb stick things to plug in by itself work or it just doesnt work plugging the phone into usb ??
im not on CM7, just wondering

Nighty #73 changelog said:
kernel: support for emmc on gingerbread bootloaders (android_device_samsung_vibrantmtd)
So... im going to install #73 right now, and let you guys know how its works.
Update: Nightly 73# and up Will work with GB Bootloaders, External SD card works. Now you can bounce around between 2.2/2.2.1, JVR, CM-7 and Maybe Miui, without having to Odin. WOOT!

Are GB bootloaders really worth it?

Just wondering what else they do besides fix rainbow effect.
I've had a bad past with bootloaders... SoftBricked a few times, hard bricked twice.
So what are the benefits?
And if I do flash bootloaders, when I odin to eclair does it auto flash the default bootloaders?

They give a more convenient key mapping to enter the download mode and recovery.other than that no I guess.flashing to eclare does not restore original bootloaders.you have to flash it separately if you want it.but bootloadres are backward compatible.so no need to so.But if you are flashing a CM based rom you need to be on froyo bootloaders even its a GB rom.

+1 and it provides less conflicts with all the newer software we are now using.
I think some of the other custom bootloaders were snappier but that's the trade off less speed but less conflicts
ok thats all i needed, thanks guys
Some Odin packages do contain bootloaders. I haven't flashed actual jfd in a long time, so I don't remember if it does, I do know the jk2 odin package eugene373 put together does flash bootloaders.
You can view the tar archive with 7zip or wnrar, if it contains the boot.bin and sbl.bin, then it will flash bootloaders along with everything else.

[Q] Desperate for help. Bootloop after odin from Whiskey nero w/voodoo

I have tmobile's vibrant t959 and I had Nero w/voodoo on there and all I did was odin back to stock because I wanted to get ICS on the phone. well I knew I had a problem before I had dropped my phone and the service cut out it doesnt do anything since then but bootloop unless I have a ROM on there then it works PERFECTLY fine, So I assume it's an internal issue? Well I had used odin to go back to stock and the terrible bootloop started again. I tried to install a new rom after i installed the update.zip file but it WILL not go into clockwork recovery. The other day when I put Nero on there I didn't need rom manager or ANYTHING it was completely stock and all I did was do update.zip through install packages and then it brought me right to the Clockwork screen. Now after I hit install packages it just reboots to the loading screen and starts up the phone..then bootloops. I'm not too sure what to do I've installed every odin 1.7 1.3 everything every single JDF and pit file I can possibly find nothing works. I can't get into clockwork even though I have superuser and all that can anyone PLEASE give me some kind of advice? I just can't figure out how i got it to work the other day.. but I know it will work. Also I did put some kind of....clockwork thing through odin? brought me to a red clockwork but when I go to install the rom it doesn't so my SD Card just my internal phone one and I even tried putting the rom on there but it doesnt show up...Mind you I can't keep the phone on for very long before it restarts...maybe if i'm lucky i can put osmething on the SD card...I also have been using my other phone to put things onthe SD card then put the SD card back into my vibrant..please someone help I want to let my boyfriend use the phone.. I'm starting to feel like I should have just left Nero on there and never tried to put ICS on there...

okay so now when i try to put roms on it just says installation aborted.... so...i dont know what else to do.... Maybe it was how i did the odin thing? but i do odin any other way and i get bootloops?

You have to root it after you used Odin. You can't flash custom roms without that and custom recovery. Follow the sticky guides.
Sent from samsung Vibrant
I am completely and fully aware that I have to root after i use odin......LOL i've been rooting and using roms for the last two years I just am currently having this problem...yeah it was a md5 tar and the pit and then the jfd tar. i dont know where i found it but now i cant apply roms. I dont know if i odin back with just the pit and jfd tar then i get a bootloop....and i know what i'm suppose to be using. i do understand how to do it that's not the problem at all so no I don't need to follow the stickys.. it's the fact that when I do it RIGHT i get the bootloop.

Try this, and please do it even if you already have.
Delete any update.zip you have on your sdcard and put this one on your internal sdcard. http://db.tt/5FWb4wT8
Odin jfd w/ repartition clicked (must be jfd, not ji4/5/6 or anything else).
No, boot into recovery, select "real install packages". And then the phone will reboot back to recovery. Select it again.
Now you *should* be able to install the rom you want, assuming you have a vibrant 3g (t959) and not a galaxy s 4g (t959v) or a t959d.
Also, what's the error number you are given when the flash fails?
Sent from my Sensation using Tapatalk 2
Alright thank you i'm trying all this now and I'll let you know what happens. I'm just a little nervous because whenever i odin back to stock without doing it the other way I get the bootloop from hell. hopefully it doesn't happen.... The error that appears is error in sd/romname installation aborted. that's all it says.
Alright well I did odin, the same way I always do it. This time without the tar.md5 file just the regular JFD. This is such a pain in the butt with no service connection...even through wifi I cannot use the market so anything i need i have to download the APK until I get this rom working. -.- OH BAM! ur update.zip worked! butttt roms still are aborted and i'm back into a bootloop.
wait a minute...can I not go directly to ICS or any other rom if i'm coming from stock?...I barely remember not being able to do that....okay so i tried putting cm7 on there and same thing... installing:sdcard:update-cm-7ect.zip finding update package opening update package installing update checking state of BMLMTD assert failed:run_program("/tmp/updater.sh") == 0 e?:error in sdcard/update-cm-7.1.01-vibrant-sig-ned. (1).zip status 7 installation aborted.......wtf D: i am about to give up... i dont know how I had nero w/voodoo on here... i know i odin back to stock then through clockwork installed the zip.. i tried to get nero back but the website is gone and no other downloads for nero are anywhere...
