Hi everyone, I this problem has been driving me nuts. I looked for similar issues, but non exactly like the one i have.
Since about a week ago, My photon keeps dropping the signal meter to 1 bar or occasionally 2. If I toggle to 3G from 4G i get more bars for a little while.
The problem seems more prominent when connected to 4G. If I make a call with 1 bar, as soon as I hit the CALL button I get more bars on the meter. When I hit the END button, it goes down to 1 bar instantly. This is always repeatable and sometimes backwards. on the rare occasion that the phone is showing 3+ bars, If i make a call, it will drop a bit, then when i end it, it will instantly rise back up.
The signal in dbm ranges from -95 to -85 inside my house according to an app and the stock android "About" menu. Surprisingly If i watch the dBm in real time, I notice that a stronger dBm, most always results in my signal meter(bars) dropping to 1.
The phone is fully stock, running 198_6. I have tried to SBF and no dice, still the same.
Sprint says there is no problem in my area and that my area should have close to full bars or a great signal. I get 3/3 for 4g inside my house too.
Im a noob at this, If anyone knows a solution please give a shout.

I'll be sitting there doing nothing and I can watch my bars go full..one..none (but not out of service), and it just keeps going..its extremely irritating especially if I'm trying to watch netflix at work lol.
Also my signal strength shows -45 when the bars disappear, and then shoots right back to -76 and -84..but my speeds don't reflect the good signal strength shown when no bars are displayed. Any ideas?

I had been having the same issue on EC01 radio but it seems like it just stopped after a while.

Yeah ive noticed it stops after a while with me too but until it does its annoying as hell. Ive got three hours of work left, its my damn friday. I just want to watch some netflix. Stupid verizon.
What I've leardned about this phone is that you have two radio signal meters. If your 3G symbol is showing and you see the up and down arrows (whether or not they are colored) then you are looking at your data signal. When the 3G symbol has a "D" below it, or you are on wifi or data is disabled, you are looking at voice signal, which may not display correctly for a couple of seconds after 3G goes dormant.
From what I've been told data signal runs at a higher frequency than voice, so it's range is not as good. That's why you can have 3 bars of voice and 1-2 bars of data sitting in the same place.
When you go into About Phone>Status it only displays your voice signal strength.

Question for people who switched from Evo 4G to Evo 3D.
Is anyone else noticing markedly weaker phone/3G signal strength as compared to their old 4G?
Mine is showing next to no signal in placed that my 4G showed full bars, and it pops in and out of roaming in places where I previously had decent Sprint signal.

I am having horrible reception problems. I have to sit on a window sill to get reception at my apartment where my Evo 4g got atleast one bar. Driving on a major highway here in Rochester NY, l watched my phone have one or no bars all the way into downtown. Roaming has been turning on and off.
Went to Sprint Store and the Rf tested my phone and said everything was fine, but my phone still seems to bounce around signal strength wise and usually ends up with one bar or less in areas where I have never had reception problems before.
As for 3G, it was running really, really slow until I called sprint and did a factory reset which has seemed to fix the problem. I'll know later if it fixed the signal strenth problem as well.
Sprint store and RF test just dont sound like they go togehter.
Definately sounds like your device is having some issues with CDMA.
I've had this problem for awhile. Randomly drop signal, calls, data stop working. The signal drop lasts a few seconds then comes back. I never get the x as in no signal at all, but no bars. This has happened with several roms. Anyone else have this trouble? I can have my phone next to another phone and they will have perfect signal and mine has none.
This might seem like an obvious case of signal strength, but I have to ask because it bugs me. If i'm inside my house and my phone is sitting on the arm of the couch or something where I'm not touching it, I'll turn it on and it says I have 4G LTE with 3 bars. Less than a minute later, it jumps off of LTE and goes to 4G with the same signal strength. I thought it might be the radio, so I updated to the 4A.16.3250.24 radio suggested in the radio thread, and it still does the same thing.
Any ideas, or is this just a signal strength issue?

I just moved and I'm barely getting 1 signal bar, sometimes nothing in my new apartment on Verizon. Where I was at before it was a full set of bars on 4g, now I'm lucky if I get 1 bar on 3g. And I haven't moved but maybe 10 miles away. Thing is though, as SOON as I step out the door it returns just fine. Any idea what could be going on in the apartment to be making it give me no signal?

Maybe metal stud framing? Who knows. I only get one or two bars in my house, but when I test I still get up to 20 Mbps down.
(I almost NEVER get full bars. I live in the DFW area, and spend most of my time up and down 121 in the Plano/Frisco area.)
