Power supplies - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

You guys have much luck finding power supplies or cables for a generic USB power adapter for the springboard? I will probably use this device as a GPS quite a bit, and would like to have the car charger.

Ebay has plenty.

Just search for usb charging cable mediapad and iPad usb car charger. The purpose for iPad charger is to make sure that the charger has big enough amp/watt.

Yep, you need at least a 2 Ampere charger.
I used a bog standard 0.5A charger first in the car and the tablet ran out of juice after a few hours. Then I found a 3 Ampere car charger at a fuel station shop and now it runs fine.
I bought a USB-to-Mediapad power connector cable from some german online store to connect the car charger to the tablet. As we all now charging via the micro-usb port does not work.

Could you please provide a link to the site with usb-to-springboard adapter? I can't seem to find one anywhere

The microUSB port does charge but it is a slow trickle. I can get it from empty to 100% if I plug it into a microUSB charger overnight, but if I need to boost it as fast as possible it has to use the charge port.

Here you go.. this is the one I got.. pretty pleased with it.. One tip, only use a 1amp charger, with 1,5 or 2 amps the mediapad starts to overheat or something, it overall fails to function properly

Big thanks to you man!!!

12V car charger!

Hi all
Long time Android addict and just got myself a transformer at the weekend. I have been puzzling the best way to charge it in car (read the threads on the subject) when I happened to wander in to Asda and spotted a mini 75W 12-230v power inverter on sale reduced from £20 to £5!. They are exactly the same as ones that sell on Ebay for 2-4 times that price out of Hongkong e.g.
12V to Mains 75w Car Van Mini Power Inverter Adaptor | eBay
I bought one and tried it on the way home from the store with the Asus AC charger and the transformer and it worked perfectly.
As a bonus it has a usb port built in not only rated at 1000ma but wired to be recognised as an AC charger (many arn't) which means it will do full speed charging on an android phone. So it should supply enough current to charge my HTC Desire even when using it as a satnav (many don’t). The only downside is that the flange on the Asus mains charger covers the edge of the USB port on the inverter so you cannot use both the AC and the USB at the same time without trimming the flange on the Asus a little.
Anyway I thought this was too good a deal not to share it with you guys.

The ASUS AC charger is normally working very close to it's limits when running off fairly stable AC mains. Running off this modified sine wave poorly regulated device may be enough to push it past its limits. If you want a good mobile solution that you can use for the TF and other small DC devices, search for the thread by Devcake where he lists options and actual reviews.

Does your TF indicate charging, e.g. with Dual Battery Widget, using this bullet charger?
E.g. If it outputs 11V-12V it should indicate charging on the TF, but if less than 11V, say 5V-10V, it would trickle charge only (no indicator).
I got one from same guy, and it does not work. I measured 2.8V output.

Mine arrived today. I hooked it up to 12v and tested the pins, got 2.8v. Then plugged i transformer and waited about 20 seconds. The transformer said it was charging on AC. I havent checked to see how quickly it was charging, but it gave the charging indication with the screen on.
EDIT: Tried it on another vehicle and now won't charge. Weird!
Any update to this working?

I use this one for my phone (HTC Desire HD). It should also be okay for the Transformer, right?

This one arrived today, there is one small issue with it, when you first plug it in the lighter the blue light gets bright and the asus orange light goes on and eventually green showing also the charging symbol, but if you unplug the cable from the charger and plug back in, it wont work, you have to unplug the charger from the lighter and plug back in. weird... But it works
This claims to be even more powerful. Just ordered but it will takes ages to get to me.

sorry, I don't think it will work.. the transformer needs 15V to charge, that one only is a 5V charger. i'd cancel my order.
OK, let's go over this again. The TF will charge with 5V at 1.5 amp but take forever to do so. The amps has nothing to do with it. It is the volts. If you feed the TF with 11V to 15V at 1.5 amp's or more it goes into the fast charge mode and charges in about 2 hrs. Anything that says 5V will charge the TF if you have several days to wait. If you have just hours you must charge using 11 to 15 volts at 1.5 amp or more to charge with. This is what the original power supply is doing. Please look at the specifications printed on the original charging brick. Note that it has dual outputs 5V and 15V if you plug your phone into the ASUS charger the charger is smart enough to know not to output 15V however when you plug in the TF the charger outputs 15V to charge the TF in the speedy mode.
Please read over "Dvecakes" thread for even more details and items you can use to charge the TF on the go and at home.
Hope this helps.

I read a post here somewhere (dev forum maybe for i9100, fun with resistors thread) that the phone limits itself to 750mA when it charges. So you can use this car charger and it should be ok. I have a verizon charger that has a spare USB port on it, and the phone charges just fine. Only issue I have is the alternator noise that's put out the headphone jack when I am using the car charger. But I have some ways around that I think.
I was using a 1A charger that was giving me digitizer issues so bad that I couldn't complete my unlock pattern. I bought a new charger from AT&T that doesn't have the problem, but it doesn't say anywhere what its output current is.
This is the one I bought: http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...0245&q_categoryid=cat1370027#fbid=UMdBTv5CnSG

You will be charged at much slower rate (limited to 500ma max), or not at all if your phone battery is almost dead. iPhone chargers are designed for iPhone only. You will need a Samsung auto charger (some other non-iPhone smartphone chargers may work too, just not iPhone chargers).
I just bought a cheap 5$ car charger USB adapter for the note will it work?

It will definitely work. The question with those cheap ones is, how long will it last. I usually try to find an OEM branded one like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250973439590#ht_2859wt_1000
Typically, chargers with USB port on it will only do slow charge. In order to support fast charge, you will need short out the data pins to allow phone to draw more than 500ma. Typically auto-chargers that comes with microUSB plug directly, such as the Samsung auto charger, will do so, asume your charger is rated to output more than 500ma.

It will be able to charge it. Keep in mind IF your iPhone USB charger max current output (5V 1000mA) is LESS than the Note's charger output, it will take longer to fully charge - but it will charge and will NOT damage the phone.
If you're looking to buy a new usb charger, look for one with the highest mA output rating since whatever device you plug into it will only draw what it needs. ie, my iPad charger is rated @ 2A/2000mA so it covers every device I own (all rated for different current inputs from 500mA up to 2000mA) and that's the only usb charger I take when I travel since I just have to switch out cables to charge other devices. On the other hand, if I only had a lower current rating usb charger, my iPad (requires 2000mA) would be out of luck.
Current output info can be found on the respective charger of your favorite device.
Hope that helps.
it does help, thanx Rand! i cancelled my Amazon order...wish i saw this post sooner.

Is it enough power from USB port to use for example in-car navigation, at least for 10 hours?
Using car charger shouldn't be a problem at all. The issue is charging via the USB port on your computer which puts out like maybe .5 watts. They make a car charger with the proper end to plug into the charging port.

I think he bought cable + charger. If it charges as fast as the included charger, then it must be a 2amps charger, and that is a bit more expensive than your average cellphone charger (usually between 0.5amps to 1amps).
If he indeed bought the cable only, then $10 is a bit too expensive. Even at $4 is still too expensive. Probably not enough competition to drive the price down.

usb charging
With CyanogenMod 10 my springboard charged quite happily via USB. from a regular 500ma USB port it would charge very slowly while in use and only slightly faster with the screen off. On a 2 amp USB charger from my Asus tablet or 2 amp cigarrete lighter -> USB adapter it would charge fairly quickly either way
Then I updated to cm10.1 20130515 and USB charging quit working at all
I performed clear & reset from both the settings menu and TWRP, rolled back to 20130501 but USB charging is still kaput!

delayed response. the good cable i mentioned would be any charging specific cable where the data pins are shorted to force most phones into ac charging, or any cable with a decent gauge wire in it. i ran into a problem with some really cheap cables that were overheating at the pins due to bad solder joints. The phone showed it was charging but the battery would drop unless the screen was off. It took nearly two days to charge with that cable. The cable didnt feel warm at all, but it had too much resistance to carry the current for the phone.
