Ever since i got my xperia S i don't have enough data any more. I used to have Arc. And i have 1.3 GB ever month to use. And that used to be plenty. I only used half of that with the arc.
So i was wondering if anyone know what is using so much data on this phone. I turned of automatic update from google market. But i can see on my bill that the phone is still taking huge bits of data while i sleep during the night.
I flashed .73 but it was the same issue with .67
No problems to me (flat) but same amount of gb made this month like with arc.

I don't have any data issues either. Maybe you have an app that's a data hog? I came in waayyyy under my data quota (500MB limit from provider) but I don't use a whole lot besides email syncing, maps, news readers and a few games.
No such thing for me. Also I don't know about you, but in Russia .67 and NL .73 there's a data tracker app built in. Maybe you should try it? Also, ALOT. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D_Z-D2tzi14/S8TRIo4br3I/AAAAAAAACv4/Zh7_GcMlRKo/s1600/ALOT.png

I've only gone through one billing cycle but I burned about 3GB. That was with a fair bit of browsing, youtube uploads, instant upload of photos to Photobucket and G+. I have All You Can Eat data, but after 15GB they can throttle you, so I keep an eye.

Well, its in the terms, but from somebody else on three I hear that you can go to 50GB without getting throttled. They only have 400k users here in Ireland, of a population of over 4mil so contention is pretty low compared to other networks like o2 who have a majority share in the market with loads of business iphones chugging through bandwidth.
Im on three UK and regularly hit 40 gig a month.

According to My Data Manager FAQ:
What is Streaming Media:
Media Apps like Youtube and Slacker Radio use the OS to stream video or music on their behalf. If My Data Manager can't identify which app requested the media, the usage is tracked as Streaming Media.

Before anyone flames you let me clear this up. It's *Unlimited, and not Unlimited. After 5GB they throttle you down below 2G speeds until the end of the current billing cycle. There isn't much you can do about it. Next month try to take it easy with the streaming.

Imagine if it wasn't and you had no texting plan.
Throttled and being charged an extra .25 for the text. That would be just terrible and lulzy on T-Mobile's part.
Dood complain to T-mobile.
People that have been hitting their cap has usually been for tethering and thats a BIG no no you cant complain if you get throttled if you tether because thats your fault. Under normal use you should never hit your cap. But with a heavy dose of Pandora, web browsing, pod cast downloads, mp3 downloads, downloading thru the stock media hub, using 3G for apps like geocaching, and now the ability to stream movies with apps like netflix. All of that combined I believe people will start getting closer to their cap or even start to go over. I believe this is a game changer and service providers are gonna have to provide more bandwidth. We just have to complain when we hit the cap under normal use. And thats the kicker. You should not have werking netflix on your specific device as its not "officially" werking for the Vibrant (yet) so its still not normal use for us. Just don't tell them that i guess, lol. Tell them you have some other phone. Good luck!

What's the purpose of this if one doesn't have truly unlimited data? If everywhere i go i need to stream crap, I'm going to max my data plan well before the month is out. I know wifi is different, but it still sounds like a pain in the ass. Am i missing something?

Yeah, i have an account. I guess i was more or less thinking this was some sort of solution or compromise for not including an sd card slot. I should have said downloading, not streaming, my bad. I was probably just looking at it from the wrong angle.
Edit: I was probably more confused than I originally thought. I thought the S3 wasn't going to have an SD card slot. It's hell getting old...

Depends how often it is syncing and how much information it has to retrieve. It can weights a lot, yes. I suggest you to disable the auto-sync, as well as downloading an application where you can set your monthly data plan, put some alerts, stops and so on. I can't remember the name of the one I was using but I guess there must be a bunch of them in the Market
Okay well the title basically explains it, my data usage statistics are not updating. It's currently August 18th and my usage cycle ends on the 11th of each month. Running neomax and currently s-on. Thanks to anyone who can help.
I've found that the data usage app is absolutely worthless. Every month I compare what Android says my data usage is compared to what verizon says it is and they are no where near the same. Verizon says my usage is 850-1,000 MB while Android usage app shows only around 300-350 MB. So, I just ignore what the data usage app says.

True, but to have such a disparity between the two reports is odd.
They have to say that to cover themselves just in case, but I guarantee they intended for it to be accurate. I'm sure they will make it more accurate in future updates.

Its odd to see so many people saying the bandwidth meter is inaccurate.. Mine has always been pretty much right on the money every month!
I do notice that there are some apps that don't get reported individually - for instance, WiFi Tether is never listed as an app that has consumed bandwidth in the list below the graph. But the total amount of bandwidth consumed always seems to be right. In other words, even though WiFi Tether is not listed with exactly how much bandwidth it used, that bandwidth is still being reported by the graph, and the cumulative total always seems to be in line with what Verizon reports I have used..
Guys the problem isn't that the statistics aren't accurate with what VZW says, its that its August 20th and the usage cycle has not updated since august 11th!

I have no clue. Everytime I have weird **** like that start to happen, it usually means its time for a full wipe and start over.
I've started to notice that Android is a little like Windows used to be.... After awhile it just starts to bog down and weird **** starts to happen that doesn't make sense. Only solution I've found in these cases is to do a full wipe and start over.

Thanks man probably gonna do that soon and find a new rom to use for my daily. Any suggestions?
with the internal SD being 16 gigs and 11 usable, how is it partioned? for example, those 5 gigs between 16 and 11 are set aside for system, rom, apps etc right? (it's probably like 3-4 gigs since it's not fully 16gb..)
i only ask because i can't figure out where my storage is going. i plugged into pc, and highlighed everything on my internal storage, and its only 6 gigs. i've got 3 gigs free it says, so that's 9 gigs. where are those last 2 gigs? i can't figure it out.
Yea it's kinda weird. Also have you noticed that in settings/apps/running it shows the ram at whatever you have left out of 1.5gb instead of it being out of 2gb just like the original dna specs were saying it was.

It breaks down to 12gb for /data, 1.9gb for /system, 700mb for /cache, 10mb for radio_config, 17mb for recovery, 18mb for boot, 2mb for misc, 2mb for local, 50mb for radio, 100mb for reserve, 20mb for devlog, and the rest is for other partions. If you want to view how it breaks down, look at /proc/emmc and read the hex values. :good:

Initially this was a problem for me. It was either the DNA or the Note II. The fact is that we are moving to a cloud environment in all aspects of IT, even mobile phones.
All of my videos, television, music, and lectures are in the cloud. There is no real need for me to have a 64GB phone, or an SD slot. The idea is that we would migrate our multimedia fix to the cloud.. and our devices would become less expensive because of the lack of required storage.
To date, after 3 weeks of having the DNA... I haven't skipped a beat. All of my music is cloud based, my camera is linked to dropbox - automatically uploading pictures and video as I take them. And my movies and television are of course, online.
So how much storage do we really need then? And why is it then a real issue?

I dunno, I hear complaining where there doesn't need to be. And as far as I'm concerned, Mazel Tov to everyone who wants to waste their hard earned cash and pad VZW's wallet. (Not gonna be me though).

That's cool, I don't blame you a bit with Wi-Fi like that. I also have unlimited data, so it doesn't bother me at all to use data.
I was also answering a question that wasn't asked by you. And where was I complaining?
Since some of us are s-off, i think we can actually repartition our intertnal memory.
Gnex also had 16gb memory, but it had 13 gb memory for user. We could do with those additional 2 gb
Maybe some dev can look into that. My 2 cents.
