Data usage - Motorola Droid RAZR

I left my phone in my car and did not use it for 13 hours. My data went up 15mb. I use Facebook, plume, and instagram. Today I did not use any of them. Is this normal?

Probably apps like Facebook auto synced and that used data.

Depends how often it is syncing and how much information it has to retrieve. It can weights a lot, yes. I suggest you to disable the auto-sync, as well as downloading an application where you can set your monthly data plan, put some alerts, stops and so on. I can't remember the name of the one I was using but I guess there must be a bunch of them in the Market

[Q] Sprint Total Protection App?

Anyone have this app or use it? Does the GPS location thing always need to be turned on? Does it waste battery?
Search for an app called lookout on the android marketplace, your welcome

I just installed Android Lost. It's free and it's great. It lets you do a lot of stuff, like make your phone sound a police siren in case you lost it somewhere in your house, lock the phone, give you the GPS coordinates, and take pictures and send it to your email, all from the web interface. It doesn't use any battery life either.
sounds good
Thanks. I may have to try one of these because the Total Protection app apparently cannot find my phones location worth a damn. Which location/security app uses the least battery?

My battery meter shows AndroidLost as using no battery, just as they claim.
Android lost is neat. Thanks for that.

Yeah, that's my only concern. Lookout is for sure reputable (been around longer, been recommended more, been on the news for Pete's sake lol) and the free version has all the features you really need, while the paid version adds remote lock and remote wipe capabilities

You don't need juice defender. It'll have a more negative effect on battery as its just another process running in the background.
I got the same message. There was a beta version of one that didn't have the same message. I ended up not using any of them but I am curious as to why we would get that message.
Anyone with any ideas?

didn't plan on using it to be honest, I just was confused by the message. didn't know a carrier could restrict an app like that (or atleast I think that's what's goin on) and don't really like it.

I got the Plus version and I love it. Used the default settings and get great standby time out of it. Unplugged the phone at 10 this morning, made a couple calls and checked e-mail. Been sitting on the desk about 12 hours and still have 95% battery left.

+1. I love this app. If I leave mobile data running, battery life on this phone sucks. With it I run schedules with mobile data where I can still get emails, and use my phone for more than 6 hrs. Don't know about the installation issues, since I've had it for awhile, just wanted to defend the app for those who feel it's not necessary

im not sure who said not to use juice and i really dont care. i have noticed an improvement in my battery life by using it, and i am talking hours. If you shell out the money for the ultimate version you can take control over every power eating aspect of your phone. +1 to the developer

[Q] Phone using alot af data?

Ever since i got my xperia S i don't have enough data any more. I used to have Arc. And i have 1.3 GB ever month to use. And that used to be plenty. I only used half of that with the arc.
So i was wondering if anyone know what is using so much data on this phone. I turned of automatic update from google market. But i can see on my bill that the phone is still taking huge bits of data while i sleep during the night.
I flashed .73 but it was the same issue with .67
No problems to me (flat) but same amount of gb made this month like with arc.

I don't have any data issues either. Maybe you have an app that's a data hog? I came in waayyyy under my data quota (500MB limit from provider) but I don't use a whole lot besides email syncing, maps, news readers and a few games.
No such thing for me. Also I don't know about you, but in Russia .67 and NL .73 there's a data tracker app built in. Maybe you should try it? Also, ALOT. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_D_Z-D2tzi14/S8TRIo4br3I/AAAAAAAACv4/Zh7_GcMlRKo/s1600/ALOT.png

I've only gone through one billing cycle but I burned about 3GB. That was with a fair bit of browsing, youtube uploads, instant upload of photos to Photobucket and G+. I have All You Can Eat data, but after 15GB they can throttle you, so I keep an eye.

Well, its in the terms, but from somebody else on three I hear that you can go to 50GB without getting throttled. They only have 400k users here in Ireland, of a population of over 4mil so contention is pretty low compared to other networks like o2 who have a majority share in the market with loads of business iphones chugging through bandwidth.
Im on three UK and regularly hit 40 gig a month.

According to My Data Manager FAQ:
What is Streaming Media:
Media Apps like Youtube and Slacker Radio use the OS to stream video or music on their behalf. If My Data Manager can't identify which app requested the media, the usage is tracked as Streaming Media.

This seems like a pretty huge bug, I would go into AT&T and ask about it, maybe they will bump up your monthly or at least take away any overage fees if you go over your plan. I haven't seen this but I am on wifi a lot of the time personally..
Has anyone else noticed this? If no one has I might see if I can switch it out for another after school

What do you have that's taking up that much room? Having only 500mb left will slow your phone down significantly. If you can't make any room, I would temporarily remove the things from your phone that are taking up a lot of space, update your apps, and then put your data back.

Yeah, I would just take the music off, update your apps, and then put it back on. Also, I'm a huge fan of Google Music but I know it's not always an option to stream if you're on a limited data plan.
Even on a limited data plan it's still good because it places the music on the cache until the user clears it. I can't go without Google music.

I'm a big fan is OTG drives for media. To the OP, one trick I've learned is that wiping caches before a nandroid backup takes off enough space to be noticable. So if you're kind of on the border line wiping the caches before updating apps might help. It will build the caches back but if you wipe them only some of the caches will be filled at first boot I believe. It's just an idea to look into I'm no cache expert.
