Hi. A friend of mine bought an unlocked galaxy s2 and he's trying to update to 4.0.4 but Kies isn't showing any updates:

Is there any way to force it to update or to do a manual update? Is anyone else running this ROM?
thanks!

If you're dead-set on having Kies do it for you, then root and install SpoofFW to have your phone look like it's from a region that will get the update, then re-try Kies.
Or, you can flash whatever firmware you want via Odin.
If you don't want to root, or flash it yourself, then your options are significantly more limited. (you'll have to wait)

Thanks for your repply!
To root, should i go with a KJ1 kernel or a KI4?

KJ1. KI4 is your modem/baseband version (aka PHONE).

You can see that the newest update is 4.0.3 down from 4.0.4?
What's up with that...
Why did they go back 1 revision? What are the improvements, someone please explain/tell.
Should I u̶p̶g̶r̶a̶d̶e̶ downgrade?
Thanks.
P.S. Tried asking google myself but came up with nothing at all...

Hi, the issue is prosaic - 4.0.3 it's just mistyping of Sammobile guys
Nordic Countries XWLPY 4.0.4 is the latest ICS unbranded firmware. So if you decide to flash it you definitely will upgrade.
Regards
Added thanks. Thanks for sorting that out mate.

Have a look here for the latest official firmware => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
Download XWLPY (Android 4.0.4), extract the zip file, flash the tar/md5 file in PDA section of Odin and reboot the phone.
Very easy ... good luck !

[Q] i9100P JB 4.1.2 Root advice

Hi, I have an i9100P on O2 upgraded to official stock 4.1.2 and I am having problems find an exact way to root, with the intention of then upgrading CWM Recovery to at least 6.0.4.3 so I can install Resurrection_Remix_KK_v5.1.1-20140507-i9100.zip KitKat ROM

As far as I can make out I can use Philz kernel (does anyone know the exact version for my phone, as I cannot post in his thread).
Can anyone confirm if these are all compatible with my phone.
Also, I thought I read somewhere that ROM Manager doesnt like this phone, is this true? If so, can I just upgrade to a Kitkat compatible CWM Recovery by flashing it in the recovery installed with Philz kernel?
I am basing my info on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/philz-cwm6-stock-kernel-cwm6-root-exfat-t1877270
And this article http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-roms/how-to-install-android-4-4-kitkat-rom-on-galaxy-s2-gt-i9100sgh-i777/
Thank you for any info you may have.

Question I'm on flashed 11.A_09 (from CN) just got a notification for OTA 11.A_17 is this safe to do?

Title explains it, flashed from CN rom some months ago, this is the first OTA update I've seen.. is this safe to update since I unlocked bootloader to move from CN?
Thanks in advance.

Of course it is safe. It's official OTA update and it is the full package! However, a backup is advised before updating.
Note that, after the A17 next update that follows is the android 12 realme ui 3.0!!
Thanks @giokou much appreciated.
Just a couple quick follow up Q's if you don't mind?
If I go and do a manual install of the Android12 package, is there some way to relock the bootloader and regain Google Pay usability?
Tia.
