Hi guys,
Having had a pleasant and appreciative response from members after publishing my deodex update.zip for the UK Sim-free release of XWLP7, I have decided to add XWLP8 and XWLP9.
Whats different about this???
This is not a full ROM - this mod purely deodexes your current stock ROM to enable faster boot and optimal performance without losing the stock feel. It means you can customise your ROM however you please and apply this update at any time
Also, whilst there are a few renowned deodexers who we depend upon, they do not deodex every firmware that comes out which is the main reason I started this thread as I wanted the UK LP7 deodexing - therefore I aim to deodex every firmware that comes out.
Why deodex???
There are several modifications which may prove useful to you but require a deodexed rom:
In most cases, you can only apply themes to deodexed ROM's as theming cannot handle the .apk and .odex files which odexed ROM's have - deodexing compresses these two files into the .apk and classes.dex thereby enabling yiu to apply themes or theme yourself
This update zipaligns your .apk's on every boot. Zipaliging is the process of reorganizing the manner in which the .apk is packaged to optimize it for being parsed faster by the Android OS which is better than the ODEX structure.
Therefore you get the best of both worlds as you can theme to your heart's content AND have an optimal ROM which will run faster and smoother
How to???
In order to apply the deodex update you will need:
The stock odexed firmware for which you want to deodex
To copy the update.zip over to your SD card or internal storage
**Optional**Wipe cache and dalvik-cache (not essential but preferable as it will remove any traces of the .odex files)
Flash through CWM the .zip which will replace your app and framework folders with the updated deodexed files.
Reboot and enjoy
Please note, your first boot may take around 5 minutes as the ROM is optimised so do please be patient. If for any reason your phone does not boot or you feel it is taking too long, try the two following options:
Wipe cache and dalvik-cache if you have not already done so.
Perform a full wipe as the .odex files may be conflciting the deodex changes.
If still no avail, please post a comment on here or PM me and I will try my best to help you
Not happy with the update???
Being as nice as i am i have included the update.zip to take you straight back to an odexed ROM. All you have to do is flash the XWLP*Revert2Odex.zip through CWM and your back to how you were before so there is no risk whatsoever in taking this for a spin and checking it out
A Kind Note
Thanks guys, please leave feedback and requests
If this has helped you in anyway, feel free to make a small donation to fuel my coffee addiction at university or just hit thanks

This works great. Through using DarkyOTA, i have also managed to drastically reduce battery consumption.
I commend you for what you have supplied here.
Please keep updating as newer roms arrive.

Would love to flash this to mine using xwlp7 stock rooted but need to know how to check my modem version first also when i flash will it wipe all my apps and data?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Go to Settings, about phone, it`s called the baseband version, and should be like, eg. xxxxxxxxLP2.
If you are confortable flashing a rom, you`l no doubt be confident flashing a modem. So after noting your modem, you should be able to download it from this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
and flash it after flashing your ROM.
Your current modem might not be the best for you, try a few, read the thread and see if you can glean any recommendations, worked wonders for me
As for losing your apps and data, There are 2 schools of thought, one is to wipe everything, and start from scratch, very stable, but a pain.
My preferred solution is to do a full backup of my apps and associated data, and restore them after a flash using Titanium Backup (probably the best fiver I`ve spent in a while)
This means that, once I have the required files on my SD card, I can flash my ROM, Modem, and Siyah Kernel (3.1.1) and restore it Exactly as It was before the Flash in about 20 Minutes.
Hope this helps....

Success i flashed this straight to my phone with no issues then rebooted without doing a factory wipe and everything is fine, if anything it seems much quicker thanks for the advice

Maybe it is me but I flash this via CWM and it did say "reboot and enjoy" but I seems to be stuck on the boot up screen forever. How long is it supposed to take?
Mine stuck at boot logo for about two minutes then re started and works great

Hi mate, it does take a while on the first boot to potimise all yur applications so it does depend on how many you have installed. also if this still takes a long time, pull the battery and reboot. It should be fine after that. Did you wipe cache and dalvik cache before applying this? Cheers

It is recommended to do a full wipe - however it is designed to optimise your applications so you could just clear cache and dalvik cache and install. The boot time may be around 5 minutes or so depending on the number of applications you have. It is a no wipe update so either method is applicable here. Hope this helps cheers

Hi All,
I'm new to flashing Android and have a couple questions to make sure I'm doing things right. My goal is to get Flapjaxx's ICS ROM for the 717 Note installed.
Here's the instructions from his OP and my questions in line:
Instructions:
1. Download to sdcard - I assume by SD card this means the MicroSD and not the base storage of the device? And the copy should be in the root of the MicroSD (or the base device if that is the right place?)
2. Reboot to recovery - Got this.
3. Wipe data/factory reset ONLY *ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED COMING FROM ANY OTHER ROM* - Unclear here. Does this mean that if my device is stock I DO or DON"T need to do a data/factory reset? Or that I do always and especially if coming from another rom? Ie do it always (and if so how, using the stock device command for reset/wipe?.
4. Flash Rom - How? I have mobile odin, found out it doesn't support on the 717 yet. I DO have the device rooted. Is there a tool I should put on the device OR will the device auto-flash the ROM after placed in the device and rebooted after wipe? What's the process? I've looked around but haven't found a guide that seems clear (trying to be safe here with my process).
5. Reboot and Enjoy
6. *Bug reports not necessary in this thread* This ROM ships As-Is
7. No this will not do anything to your bootloader.
Thanks in advance
Yea because it clears data that could cause problems with the new software. Always do a factory wipe in cwm and clear cache partition and dalvik cache too
You flash the rom with cwm which can be found in the dev section here. Before ya flash anything I'd do some research here because there are threads with very detailed instructions on the flashing process. If ya run into any snags just post back here and I'll try to help ya best I can

CJ, thanks for the reply. That definitely helps. I was able to finally find the thread I should have found first (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223) that explains the process. I guess I just need to be more patient and search harder
If I have questions I'll definitely post. CWM was the missing link in my process. I think I should be good to knock it out now. Wish me luck!
I flashed my GS2 to the early ICS leak and it really improved the experience on the phone, I can't wait to do the same on the Note!
You must have cwm or twrp recovery. Once you've flashed either one, make a backup of your existing ROM (custom or stock does not matter). Always wipe data/factory reset in recovery. Then select install zip and flash away. Follow the directions carefully no matter which ROM you're flashing. Mobile Odin is useless at this point. You will use Odin on your PC to flash a custom recovery. Once that's done you will most likely never use Odin again. Read up on how to install your custom recovery, boot into recovery, flash ROMs and mods...etc., etc.
Edit: SD card can be internal or external. Your choice.

Now the big decision is to move from ADW to Apex or not. I think Apex is less of a hog but ADW has some nice features. But I haven't really looked into Apex much yet.
But so far so good.

U need to try appdroids team perfection ics ucle2 rc#2... use with skycis theme ots sick its hot its all note!!
BTW.....APEX!!

So many choices! If it wasn't such a hassle rebuilding (desktop/app data/etc) I'd try a few builds
I am thinking of giving Apex a serious go. I've been doing a lot of playing around with the phone (how can one resist!) to push the envelope a bit and am finding that freeing up additional ram is something I need to work on. For example I've tried using ES File Explorer to playback mkv videos via Moboplayer. It works... for a bit... until the app crashes. My assumption is it's an available memory issue (but I could be wrong) as I hover at around 80-100mb free.
Anyway now you are motivating me. I might just have to do an Adwlauncher backup, kill it and setup Apex and see how it goes
Oh, and Tasker is fun as hell. Love automating the phone. How does anyone survive iOS....

ok folks got a problem here and i have searched and searched and tried and tried with no luck i have an at&t unlocked note i717 i have rooted it using the method stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1586223 i have installed a wide vairety of custom roms as wellas recoveries the phone constently reboots i have pulled the phone apart and cleaned the power button flashed different kernels etc no matter what i do it still reboots all the time. also the battery will have a full charge and once it autoreboots the battery shows it has being dead now the phone sticks in a boot loop i am by no means new to the android game i have even built my own rom many moons ago for the SGS II but this has me stumped any help and i would be greatful
P.S. the only way it does not give me these issues is to treat it as a brick and restore to stock gingerbread
How old is the actual battery? Is it bulging at all? Might want to try a fresh battery. The battery with a full charge but is dead after reboot is a sign of bad battery.

That is a given i have learned from past experience that wiping just once sometimes just is not good enough. strangely enough i returned the phone to stock unrooted. from there i install hybrid rom and did not have any issues the battery said it was a full charge the phone stayed on did not reboot untill today this afternoon i went and logged into facebook and the second it logged in bang there was the reboot. before that i made calls and went tot he play store etc etc with no hiccups this is really got me stumped
Wiping data and cache is not always good enough. You should also format your system partition. If not you will have system files from the previous ROM on your phone even though you do a full wipe.
Your issue may be with the way you are rooting your phone. Install your factory ROM using odin. Then use odin to flash CWM or TWRP recovery. Then flash a superuser version using recovery. The tutorial you spoke of mentioned kernels and you may be flashing a kernel for gingerbread on a JB ROM. This would definitely mess your phone up. Stay away from the kernels mentioned in this thread as the info is ANCIENT. After rooting (actually you don't even need to install superuser to flash a custom ROM) install your custom ROM. And only flash kernels recommended for that particular ROM.
Agoatamers words are always solid. I myself dont like to flash alternate kernals as they often seem to invite more maintainence. If it doesnt work with kernal built with, then I dont use.

I have been in this game for a while now and i have flashed more androids than i can count this phone is not the first note that I have flashed but it is the only one that i have seen this issue with as far as flashing kernels i did not use the kernels in that post untill i had returned to stock with GB then i used them the way you mentioned above is the way this phones was flashed several times I have tried many different roms without flashing kernels and then as last result tried a few defferent kernels as well to see if the kernel was an issue as i have had issues with kernels in the past on the SGS2 doing this with crappy kernels, although they were an easy fix flashing siyah pretty much fixed that issue. here is an update on the phone situation. i have been running hbrid rom for almost 24 hours with no reboot (fingers crossed, knock on wood ) the only thing i have done different I did switch batteries due to being out and my primary batt died and used my back up so i do believe it very well may have been the battery, the battery is not bulging as of yet but that does not mean anything as the battery could still be bad so we will see again fingers crossed i will kep this updated for at least 48 hours as long as there is no more problems i will mark this as solved via the battery replacement
I'm using Beanstalk on my phone and I get a lot of random reboots. Mostly when I'm unlocking the phone. I press the button and the soft keys light up the phone freezes and 5 or so seconds later it reboots. It also happens during calls sometimes when I take the phone away from my face and the screen turns on and sometimes when I'm listening to music. It's also happened a few times while I was using the phone. I don't restore any data(unless you count the apps that automatically reinstall from the playstore when I boot the phone, and a few apks from blackmart) I've tried reflashing but that was only a temporary fix. I always have problems with roms being really buggy even though I always to clean flashes.
Can someone help me to fix this? I use this device to play music over a sound system for crowds of people so I really need this bug fixed. (preferably without reflashing but I will if need be.)
maybe try this

Alright i managed to fix the damage but i'm back to beanstalk with cwm. (i had to go through cyanogenmod and put it on using rom manager)

you can go to the Original Development thread and find the thread for the Uber kernel. pay attention cause one is for JB and the other for KK. whichever Beanstalk your running get the right kernel.
you will flash it just like you flash a rom, or more like you would flash the gapps. you don't have to start over flashing rom again, you are just flashing the kernel to it.
the reboots sound a bit off to me as if you are flashing completely clean, KK is very stable for me and most others. maybe try flashing rom twice as you can get 2 different reactions on 2 different flashes.
flash rom
flash rom again
gapps
boot and wait
reboot
go back and flash your kernel
make sure you get all your wipes in middle of all this.

If you are using Beanstalk you should probably read the BeanStalk thread, both of these common problems (screen flicker and failure to wake) are solved with a Aroma package made by p0llution. You flash it in recovery and all is good. Link is in 1st post, right next to ROM link. You can also switch kernels and boot animations with same package.

Kernel switching in general does not require any ROM action, there are likely cases that it might be useful but I've never had a problem. You will need to ensure that the kernel is matched to your ROM; KitKat or Jellybean or whatever. I usually do it as I flash a ROM but I have gone back and installed a kernel on a running ROM plenty of times; Uber for instance was released after I had BeanStalk up and running, it is a good kernel so I switched to that.
As a more general point the Note is hard to brick, as long as you don't somehow mess up the recovery (CWM or TWRP) you are just a quick restore away from back to normal. Use the backup function in your recovery, it is your friend and savior. Keep a copy of the back-up on your PC (or Mac) and you will usually be golden.

If you are on BS Rom you should know that all you need to to know is on the OP post-the rom and the patch. The latter contains about 5 different kernels which you can switch betw. to your hearts content. The patch is n00bie proof to make your switches. Really hit BS OP.

Just like all the other kind gents adv'd, it's all in patch's OP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535857
Including polluti0n's patches thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50529734&postcount=854
He uses aroma installer, so when you flash it (personally, I did it with CWM) you don't need to wipe cache/dalvik nor wipe phone, he mentons this on patch's thread while answering questions I believe. The screenshots show you some differences between the kernels he has available, either CM, Uber or PAC.
Personally, I'm using PAC since for me it seemed to work better with the Xposed's Netflix workaround, whereas it didn't work that well with Uber.
Also, the patch provides fixes, for camera, screen flicker and such.. Give it a try, and you'll definitely love your phone more!
Hi guys, I've owned this tab (p4wifi) for a few years now and for sure loads of junk has been building up in it. I've used dozens of ROMs in the past and it seems to be slowing down. Now the slowness isn't the issue, I just want to revert it back to full, pure stock as in Unrooted stock ROM from sammobile with no user data whatsoever. Exactly like the first day I got the tab, no pics videos or anything that I took.
I live in Malaysia so I'll be using this: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=5982
So now the problem is how to exactly go about doing this? I'm currently running CM10.2 with CWM installed and I want all my user apps, photos and videos gone too, like everything. I understand that i have to boot in Download Mode and use ODIN to flash that ROM image, but hat are the steps before or after that I have to take to remove all my user data? Would really appreciate it if I could have a step by step procedure.
Thanks alot guys

well before flashing the KERNEL image....
it is not quite necessary to totally wipe the phone..
bt to ensure a clean install it can be done...
while.... since u want to return to pure stock.... it is better to first restore your first cwm backup which u made just after rooting.....
coz flashing a kernel wont remove the custom scripts bt only disable it.....
so wat i say is... first restore ur just-after-root cwm bakup.... after that flash your kernel which u will download from sammobile. com.
and then u will have a pure stock unrooted phone like in the beginning

OK I will try. I'm running CM10.2 a custom ROM so can I use the factory reset option in system settings? Because CWM wipe data doesn't wipe a lot of things :/

yes you can use the factory reset and it will wipe everything.... from cache to dalvik cache to data..
the system folder and some other folders will only be intact as they contain the rom related files....

Do this:
1. Wipe data/factory reset in cwm
2. Wipe system
3. Wipe cache
4. Wipe dalvik
5. Wipe internal memory or sdcard or /data/media (I forgot what its called in cwm)
Then boot into download mode and Odin flash the stock ROM.
FYI, the other guy was wrong, sammobile offers ROMs and not kernels. And, HEY, I'M FROM MALAYSIA TOO!

Thanks both of you Woohoo fellow Malaysian on this legacy tab. Sweet thanks for the detailed procedure, I'm guessing step 5 is the one that wipes all photos and videos? Because normally 1-4 just wipes user apps. Will try it after having my stuff backed up How is the UI smoothness for you on this tab? Just wondering if I'm the only one who feels that mine is very sluggish.
actually, Toldo's stock rooted ICS rom and Omni Kitkat rom are both smooth.

Yup that's the one that wipes everything. Sometimes the tab feels sluggish, depending on what i use it for, like heavy multitasking and such, but overall its pretty smooth. BTW, I'm running SlimSaber 4.3 on my tab. I feel that 4.3 gives the best performance for our tab and 4.1(pershoot's cm10) is the most stable.

If you're going to revert to pure stock, just flash official firmware via ODIN. Boot into stock recovery and factory reset. It will also wipe the contents for internal sdcard.
.......
just use odin

How about kernel wise? Which is the best kernel out there for this tab? Would prefer a ekrnel that allows "powersave" and "performance" mode in trickster mod :3

On stock ROM? I'd recommend A1 kernel or Yoda kernel. Yoda kernel is quite outdated and doesn't contain the l2_hsic wakelock fix if you have the 3g version, but its pretty good. A1 on the other hand, is a fan favourite. Both have performance governors and if I'm not mistaken also powersave governor, but honestly I've never tried trickster mod so I can't tell you that.

Thank you sir, great help so far heh. I ended up flashing the rooted deodexed stock ROM i found in the forum but after flashing I chose to disable stock recovery flash, does that change anything? My first boot wasn't successful so I went to reflash the ROM again in CWM and it got stuck in "Opening update package". I restarted the tab and it booted up normally. Is the stock ROM interfering with the custom recovery? :3

Did you do the usual wipe before flashing? And also what version of cwm are you using? Try using this version of TWRP by kasper_h.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39931861
To answer your question, I don't think it changes anything, but saying no to stock recovery flash seems to be the right way to go. And no, stock ROM does not interfere with the custom recovery.

It's alright everything's working now Now another problem popped out I wiped my internal memory which means all my photos and everything non system related, and it did, my tab was practically empty buttt the tab doesn't register it as that ._. The storage part in settings shows that I have used up like 12GB of space even though I have wiped everything clean, I did an SD card folder analysis with ES file explorer and although it showed the same 12GB used, the folders shown do not add up to that, could it be the indexes are not updated? Because I don't see anything that could be eating up all that space

Anybody getting the notification bar not working in fact it doesn't matter what app is open but the top won't work for a bit then it'll work again?
It did it on straight up stock with root. I've redone the recovery and flashed this ROM and its happenening again. It took a while to do it like a few hours or so. Any thoughts?

I just got home and asked the wife if our tablet had been acting up lately and her response was no. I did have a slight issue with my brightness and volume slider bars disappearing but that was the original stock rom. That was fixed by reflashing using Odin.
I assume you tried a factory reset and all the other standard fixes?
Sorry I can't help you more. Good luck
Are you familiar with kernel development? I see there are custom kernels for other galaxy tab models and even other SM-T23X models but nothing for the sprint variant. Or would anyone have any resources for me to possibly learn how to build my own ? thanks

Did you create a custom kernel? What method of root are you using (system-less, or full system root)? @moonbutt74 is working a custom kernel for the t237p, but not really sure how long it'll take...

This is a systemless root method, so if you factory reset you will loose root and have to reflash the beta 2.66 root zip. The kernel source has not been released yet for our device so until we have that there will be know custom kernel.
