Hey guys,
Had the One X for two weeks. The screen in particular is really sharp and nice. Though it uses tegra 3, the amount of lag can still be seen.. and the battery really sucks. Rooted and custom roms doesnt solve all this so...
Have any of you guys used both and can comment if its worth the trade?(Have a friend that wants to trade). I really like Sony and its software optimisations (have the tablet s and used a arc previously )
Please share some opinions on this.
Thanks
Most of us have yellow tint. So if yellow tint isn't an issue for you... then no one is stopping you . LOL.
You should change to Xperia S like i did. I'm regret to buy one X. My Xperia S never have any yellow tint issue, just perfect

Just exactly how bad is this? Is it really visible or something minor?

It's not most of us, its 50/50 of the registered users on the forum...
I still have my 12w8 phone, and my partner as well, and we have no sign of yellow tint (both phones above 40 multiple times)
It's pretty much a lottery if you get the yellow tint, but if you do (unless you order the phone from ebay or so) you can get it fixed/replaced.
The signs can vary, to a light blotch to rather large. Sony has in most countries acknowledged the problem, and will fix it under warranty.
Anyways, in the screen problem thread, there's info with pictures around. It seems to not be limited by batch number, and the problems vary between the devices.
I highly highly doubt it's 50% of the phones in current rotation thru out the world, the One X has this issue also, more likely its as Sony has stated a small percentage that has this screen glitch which u can take back for a clean swap.
This can affected nearly all phones.
Cant really comment on the battery performance of the One X but the screen lag happens in all phones, more then likely future roms will lesson the signs of any lag as they experiment with it more, why not give the phone a few months u haven't had it anywhere near long enough to make these kinds of judgments imo.
The Xperia S and One X are great phones, top of the line and brand new.
No screen issues on my XPS 12w9 version here.

that's why i said "Registered users on the forum"
There was a poll done on the forum and it was about 50%, and yea I agree, it isn't anywhere near a majority.
I believe Sony even said it was a small percentage, and it could even be that the percentage on the forum is about the only people experiencing it or even noticing it who knows.
I don't know about others, but I will consider to be most unlucky with this yellow tint case. I'm having my third replacement with yellow tint yet again. Now I'm waiting for parts (LCD Screen) to fix this issue.
@OP, my current phone and my first phone only had the tint at the bottom (as all the users out there who have this issue), but my second phone was the worse with yellow tint at the sides and top right corner as well.
I don't have a One X so I can't comment on that
If hardware specification ( which is crazy for a phone ) , maybe camera and HTC sense is important for you , don't switch.
But anything else , Xperia wins . The reception(signal) , GPS , screen , sound ( however you will have to play around a bit with the eq) , user-friendliness ( that depends, for me , a LED notification light, the timescape, and the Xperia UI is something i cannot live without) and of course developer support ( which HTC locks its bootloader, and rooting your device will still void your warranty if i am not wrong. Sony doesn't, they will just restore it back ... ) .
But hardware specification still matters to a lot, people have the mentality that quad-core on a phone is so very essential ...

ROMs will make a difference but HTC themselves thinks that the battery is normal. This is what turns me off.. future updates may or may not improve battery unlike the Xperia which I heard has updates to improve battery.
I guess I will go to the store to see the yellow tint and compare both..

I think One uses 5th core 2 operate a phone. tegra runs in a stress, I guess...
I used both for a week or two extensively and ended selling both. One X felt too huge, boring look, Sense belongs to Windows Mobile 6.5 world. While there are ways to make it faster and smoother with other launchers and ROMs, i prefer the stock to be one of the best options like Xperia.
Xperia S felt too long than it needs to be for its screen size, too thick, Capacitive buttons that need practice to get right, and the cover to USB port is meaningless.
Waiting for Xperia P even though the dimensions are again too big for 4"screen. I just love/prefer Sony designs and UI.

Xperia S is a way faster then One X and less battery cosumption.
To prove that, watch on youtube Xperia S VS HTC One X.
Camera is faster on sxs, browsing is faster on sxs (just to mention we still dont have ICS)
which improve this to things a LOT.
Yellow tint issue
Guys, what i noticed about the yellow tint issue. If you have a device from 12W11 and higher, you won't have the yellow tint issue. Most devices beneath have that issue ****.
If you open your batterycover you'll see an number. for example 12w09 you will most chance of a yellow tinted screen

i had a xps from batch 12w12 - yellow tint at the bottom and the top corners. i think at the end of the day its like a coin flip, you either get the tint or not. still waiting on my replacement.
I have the Xperia S and my girlfriend has the One X.
Both great phones, but i'm a tiny bit disappointed by the One X
I don't know if it's because of Sense or because of the optimization from HTC.
But it feels like the One X has more lag and stutters than the Xperia S.
Xperia S is always so smooth, it almost never lags or stutters in any way.
And imo the Xperia S has great batterylife for such a powerfull phone.
Sony will replace if you get the yellow tint problem.. Don't worry about that.. I know a couple of people who had both and have both sold the HTC.. Can't go wrong with the Sony.. Quad core seems to add nothing.. and kills the battery!

well i would suggest u first check what u want in a device... if u want a brilliant screen great camera and dont worry too much about "tons of custom roms" then the obvious choice is Xperia S...
what are u looking for in the device?

Well I have to say I bought the Xperia S with high hopes it would live up to my past experiences of the Sony brand and the spec list on the Xperia S, however it hasnt really.
I have found it laggy and under-whelming even in normal use and dont get me started on those bottom buttons.
Looking at the spec, I would expect it to be a hell of alot quicker and less laggy than it is. Are these things that will be fixed with an update or is this the best we can expect the device to ever be.
Camera, not that impressed. It is capable of very good shots, but doesnt deal well with light, with areas of a image being washed out due to normal light from sky.
Anyone else considering sending it back / selling it, and buying something else?
I just sold it and decided to wait for a Sony model designed for ICS or with better bottom buttons. I thought the phone had too much Bezel area and length for the screen size. I hope Xperia P buttons are more sensitive. I didn't have long enough to see any performance issues. I seem to love my Arc even more now

I'm thinking of selling mine purely down to the fact ICS is now planned for a late Q2 release which I think is shocking considering this is Sony's flagship device.

I gotta be honest I'm really not sure. I also dunno if i want such a big screen. Stuck the Xperia s back in the box this morning and been using my trusty old iPhone 4 and I kinda prefer the size...but everything high spec at the moment seems to be going the 4 inches route.
I do agree btw what you said about ICS on the XS...it seems to be last in line..though I'm not really sure if it would make an improvement. You happy with yours aside from that?
Im happy with mine xperia s. Im only disappointed with built-in battery ;/
Very happy with the device, no disappointment.
I believe delaying the ICS is the correct decision, rather than rush out a flawed upgrade.
Had mine since release date I have no regrets. I like the build and NXT iface. battery I get just around 30hrs but I am not really a heavy user. Just waiting for the firmware update ICS right now is not a biggie for me. those wanting gs2 good luck to you just remember GS3 ain't that far away. Good luck to the HTC one guys personally I cannot stand sense or TW. Each to their own
XPS still is one of the most beautiful looking Android phone out there. HTC One X looks ugly to my eyes but I just pulled the trigger on it. Should have it next week. I just don't like how HTC phones have that curved edges at four corners of the screen. Decided to give it a chance till I find more details on Xperia P and the capacitive buttons.

I completely agree. This is the best gingerbread device on the market currently and one of the best smart phones currently available.
While lack of ICS for the time being is disappointing. The design, hardware and features more than makes up for that.
People are constantly praising my phone how amazing it looks and feels.
I've even had Nexus owners compliment my phone.
We also have the best screen and camera on the market currently.
You'd have to be crazy to give this phone up.

There's an easy trick to the capacitive buttons.
Instead of pressing the buttons, slide your finger over the area.
Garanteed 100% accuracy everytime.

Touch sensitive buttons never a problem for me, I don't understand how anyone can have problems with them. When I first got the phone it was a bit hit and miss but got used to where I needed to press very quickly. If you have big fingers maybe but otherwise you shouldn't have a problem.
I had the hd2 for two years prior to owning this phone, and I loved it especially as it was easy to root and there are loads of custom roms and tweaks,it was like having a new phone every week.
Xperia S took a bit of getting used to coz I liked sense, still do, but after all the changing of roms it's nice to have everything working out of the box and I wanted a decent camera and video recorder and the one on the xperia is first class.
I'm not totally happy with everything but I haven't been with any phone I've had, the perfect phone doesn't exist, and never will.
I specifically got this for the camera capabilities, any other positives where a bonus.
So overall I'm very happy, but as someone already mentioned, each to there own.

Also, are we allowed to post ebay links on xda?
The phone in itself is fantastic im not denying that. What I am [email protected]&:#/ off with is the fact this device is the flagship but is getting ICS after the 2011 devices and im afraid that is inexcusable on Sony's part.

Hello,
I just want to get the opinions of all xperia users who would like to take the time to answer my question.
I currently have a samsung galaxy note and i stumbled across the xperia s via the smartwatcha and smart wireless headset pro (i have this ocd-ish problem where all of my gadgets need to have one brand primarily) and i was wondering what are the community's take on the phone?
I'll primarily be using it as a secondary phone if not become primarily as soon as i get tired of lugging my big ass Galaxy Note around.
There is just something alluring about its sharp minimalistic style not to mention having a hd bravia tv in the palm of my hand.
Anyways, back to my question: what are your general opinions of the phone? Good or bad i'd like to hear them all.
Its a good phone, I love the screen and the processor seems fast enough. My gripes with it are, I am not sure about the button placement. Also I am not a fan of the usb flap cover. The light bar is awesomeness though.
It's awesome. That's all.

worth it ? yep
I came from a note as well although mine died
I love this phone, my only gripe is the lack of developers here on xda, most devs seem to goto Samsung or HTC. I actually don't know if that's a good or bad thing because Sony's UI is fantastic and so is the whole experience so rooting the phone isn't really worth it at this stage for me, whereas with the note I was flashing every other day and that wasn't necessarily a good thing.
I miss the big screen of the note but I sure don't miss the SAMOLED display and the bad placement of those capacitive buttons and also the power button. The other real bad thing I noticed when I came to the xperia was how badly the note handled itself under sunlight I could never make out what was displayed and had to use my other hand as shade which didn't improve it much and also adding to the already difficult handling. With the Sony there is zero problems under sunlight I was amazed. I've held the Sony directly in sunlight and still can see the screen at around 80% vision comparing to the notes 10% vision.
I paid 800AUD for the note in November and I just paid 420AUD for the xperia s just after they got released and personally it outperforms it in software and hardware.
Sony feels expensive in the hands yet its cheap, Samsung feels cheap yet its expensive.
Oh yeh one other thing I really hate is the flap covers for the USB I could understand if the phone lasted a week without charge but when you charge everyday its pointless and frustrating.

It works just as any auto-adjust, it just isn't as drastic when it adjusts ( more adjusts in phases than the 'low light > omg my eyes!'). It adjusts how it should at night, and outside (even in the sun) it is the most visible and clear I have ever seen in a touchscreen phone, the clarity is really impressive.
I don't know why, but I guess since most people use the auto setting, they removed it? I dunno, but you can still disable it with a widget anyways, so it doesn't really matter

Hi Guys,
I have used Xperia X10, Xperia Arc, Xperia Play, Xperia S and I am finding it really difficult to think about another brand !!!
I just want to know the opinion of Xperia users (Xperia S/Arc S), do you guys thinking about moving to Samsung Galaxy S3?
Actually I have used Xperia S for a short time & returned the set due to:
1. Built Issues - lower part (below the transparent strip) was very loose, the phone looks very fragile, once dropped, its gonne (i hate using cases)
2. No Physical Button - I really missed the physical button (I know its personal choice), galaxy S3 has one single button.
3. Still lagging - the phone still lags, Xperia promoted this too much but I can still lag while switching screens.
4. Camera is not so good - I find my 8MP cam of Xperia Arc far better than XS.
5. Everybody hates the flip covers - common problem.
Regarding Galaxy S3 - I know its not beautiful design but it has got power, I have Galaxy Note and I know its a beast.
Note: I just need opinions so no arguments or word wars please
i never thought of samsung, moreover iproducts are costly.
And main thing is i don't have any problem with my xperia s currently and i am happy with it.
Not the galaxy s3. If the problems I have with the xs are not solved I would consider the one x.
Wouldn't think of it.
My reasons in a nutshell:
Too ugly (blah design), bad screen (pentile so not true HD), not much of an upgrade (more cores isnt always better).
by the way, there was already an opinion thread on the S3 made, and it got closed because it went a bit....south I guess.
you can see more opinions here:

and I hope this thread won't turn out like the last one, but yea...
I want powerful phone this time, dont want to buy n to make my phone wrking better by rooting !!!
It should run smooth...
I am waiting for SG3 & XGX.
I really liked the smoothness of HTC One X !!!
Good option.
from xperia PLAY
Well if you want power above all, the One X or the SGS3 wouldn't be a bad option.
I don't know if it's still a problem though, but the One X was a battery vampire I hear.
I myself have thought about a Razr (not easily available here) or HTC phone (One S) before moving over to the S. I don't really like sense though, but the design of HTC devices never hit the spot, so picked the S in the end.
I don't know how you will be lag-wise, as android itself has a sort of lag by design. You may have returned your device within 15min I read, but you didn't really give it enough time to win your heart. It is a powerful device without even needing to do anything to it.
But yes, for benchmarks above all, those two devices would be the best option currently. Or you can wait for the Mint to release and not have a brand dilemma at all . For actual daily use, I am not sure you will see a difference, as the S is already mostly butter smooth and has the design factor as well.
My reason was this..
PURCHASED XPERIA S and RETURNED within 15 minutes !!!
Guys,
Today I make up my mind n decided to purchase xperia S, enough waiting for GX/Hayabusa..
But once purchased, while playing with it, I found that the lower part of the XS (below the transparent strip) is loose, I can move that part n looks pathetic
I went to the store, he exchanged immediately with another one, that too was not looking very solid !!!
Its just me unluckily or luckily saw that or its design/built issue

Your luck, probably early batch. 12w11 here, the build is rock solid, even port flaps.
Same here. No build Quality issues at all. Mine is 12W16.
The port flaps also seem well built. As for lag, I don't think GS3 would be noticeably smoother in daily usage than XS. XS is already almost on par with Galaxy Nexus and Htc One X in terms of real life usage even with Gingerbread.
ICS update should make things even smoother.
As for the GS3, nope I won't buy a Samsung phone ever. The GS3 design is a joke and its too big for my taste. Plus has an inferior camera, and a much less sharp screen with over saturated colors. No thanks
These no. 12w11, 12w16 are written on back right? After removing the back case???
Or is there any way to identify the batch seeing the Box itself!!

Mate are you serious? Haven't we already had a thread like this that got kicked to the bottom of the forum?

Im staying with my XS.
Main reson is the design that looks like no other mobile out there.
And i a everyday use, i dont think ill notice the difference in dual vs. quad power.
The screen size is allso a problem for SIII. Its not the size of the boat, its the motion of the ocean thats important.
We've been through all this before!!

Hi there.
Just as the title says. Im looking to buy one myself but wont to get a feel of what people are thinking about there decision to buy this device.
Cheers
Nah! Never regreted my purchase!
On the contrary, I have sent it for the "yellow tint" thingy service, and I already miss the poor [email protected]@rd!
Not a single day!
I recommend it :good:
No, this is the best smartphone I had. X10 and Arc was good ones but the XPS have it all. No more memory problem since it have more than enough.

Compare the design among all other smart phones on the market, the answer is no. Not to mention its still one of those high end dual core devices these days

Some days I regret that I got the XS and not the S3 cause of the settings available in ICS and some of the feature.
But then I look at the design and my XS makes me smile again.

I wonder why people call it outdated phone!!!
if you looked at its hardware, the camera is one of the best (12mp), the screen is one of the best (HD), and it has NFC, just to mention few. tell me one things the xperia s lacks
and if you looked at its software, it is a bit late to the party but its running 4.0.4 (very few phones running this version).
the only thing that might be outdated is the chip ONLY, but with the smooth experience, you won't know that you are using 1 year old chip except from tech sites but not from your phone itself.
the power is not everything, with the xperia s, it is very smooth, while with the more powerful HTC one x, some people suffering some laggyness. well, there is no point of having 1000php truck while 300php porsche will beat it very easily . this doesn't mean I don't want more power, but for the current time, this is just enough for me.

Oh! Another Kiwi! On the internet!
I didn't regret it at all, even though I paid probably a fair bit more than most others to get my hands on mine. It was probably one of the first devices to land here (complete with the yellow screen issue - although mine only turns yellow when the phone heats up. I think some people got screens that stained yellow.)
Got mine at PB, I wanted to play with the phone hands-on before I bought and I figured it'd be a bit of a **** move to go into the store to try it and then buy it somewhere else for cheaper. I had to convince them to sell me their display model. I wanted the black one but they had that one on display, and an unopened white handset... but I wanted the black. I go to PB a lot anyway with electronics purchases for friends and family, so. Loyalty pays off!
They've dropped their price a lot since I snapped up my handset. I paid $950 GST Inc, which was a fair bit more than the Galaxy S II was going for at the time. Early adopter's tax
If you want it on contract with Vodafone, I've been told unofficially that the Xperia S should be available from them very soon.
the only thing I regret is the software! sony really has to do a better job with it's software...
the phone itself is great :victory:
Not one bit. Love it

Worst battery life on smart phone? How many smart phone do u have? And on another note, xs can do fastcharging (provided u have the needed accessories). U got full battery in about 1 hr and 30 minutes.while some new smartphones need bout 3 hours. It even charge faster than my GT540.

Cant agree with the battery life . You can say it average at most but not "bad" .
Capacitive button is very sensitive on stock ICS . Try it .
Every phone will "lag little" it depend hows ur tolerant .
My opinion , best camera among android , clear and crispy screen , nice UI , stable os , multi function . Full statifice espicially on ICS stock .
Only lack of root without unlocking bootloader . Never regret .
Other than less sensitive capacitive bottoms and not satisfying battery life..... No not a single day I regret buying this amazing phone specially now that I updated my phone to ics I noticed an improvement in the sensitive of the capacitive bottoms and also improved the battery life noticeably that with the help of my recent purchase of JuiceDefender
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
These capacitive buttons really sucks.. I'm looking for a patch to enable on-screen buttons, the physical ones are driving me crazy.
You should try a device first if you don't accept having to press the buttons more than once frequently.
I had no improvements on ICS regarding these capacitive buttons.
the only things that would make me regret, are:
The size, because operating it with one hand is not easy (touching top screen) But i think every other comparable phone is big or even bigger than the XPS
The sensitivity of the 3 capacitive buttons, exactly.. suck . and no it's not something you will just get used to, because you will only get used to used it in a different way so it still works... This only should have been a reason to fix before selling. but probably was too late.
but there is probable no better phone yet so.. :good:

well I don't know about others but I am coming from HTC Sensation XE- and trust me if I didn't use the phone at all (or while at night) , my phone could easily give 10 hours for just 1% with a custom rom....whereas in XS I still lose 6% on Ics
and 1 more thing is that...we used to have 100s of roms updated on daily basis so I could change to the rom which suited me / usage.......but here I have hardly seen 5 roms (thanks to krappbel) he is the only who developing usable roms sofar...
Many kernels mods and so on but here u are restricted to your Ics with a poor battery life.....even galaxys3 which released after xs have a couple of roms
I've had the xperia z2 phone for about 3 weeks now,and i must say its a pretty descent phone. But i cant help asking myself whats so special about this phone that i paid so much for?. Its indisputable that the z2 is a highly spec'd phone with the gorgeous screen and all,but when talking smartphone, its not all the internal specs that matters, the build quality does matter too, which IMO the z2 doesnt possess. I mean come to think of it,z2 is one of the most complained about smartphones out there, not to mention...
~The spaces found between the metal frame and the glass panel,in-which my phone also have + the back glass got replaced, making it more susceptible to water damage and what not!
~The issue of self cracking, although i understand its of minority, but com'on! Its worrying
~Overheating issues,i know this have been addressed already in several places,a phone like the z2 should be able to withstand some average period of 4k recording without overheating, not just few minutes.
~The inability for the other party to hear during calls...well,even though i was able to find a temporary solution to it by flashing a custom ROM,but do all the z2 owners with same problem have to flash custom rom as well? Also, not to talk of the absurd location of the mic.
~And Oh! Did i mention the camera? Well it has a good amount of MegaPixel but seriously, the camera software suuuuuuuuu*cks!! Most especially the superior auto mode. I find myself using the ProCapture more often now. And the other day,I and a friend of mine with an iPhone 5s snapped same photo, and he mocked me 'cos his images were better than mine.
Lastly,i know That no Smartphone is perfect, buy Sony,You could do better than this!!
Anybody on my side?
You cant judge an entire Brand off of one defective Unit
I have never had overheating from 4k
I never have overheating from gaming
The camera is perfectly fine, it isnt perfect in low light but not many phones can do as good as Z2
Self cracking glass? I dont understand how this posible, glass nor aluminum does not expand nor shrink enough to cause self cracking
Spaces, what spaces?
Yes on my previous defective unit had all these problems but since that defective device was replaced i have had no issues at all

You are too naive on this issue. Z2 isn't a bad device in any aspect. True, u have got a defective piece. But that doesnt make everyone else has. I'll answer all your questions.
1. Spaces are coz of defective units. Every manufacturers have this defective units problem when the demand for the phone is higher. You saw iPhone6(bendgate), S5(Overheating and some more), etc.
2. Self cracking? Hardly that's an issue. I haven't seen that in common. Its a rare issue which is likely to occur only @worst case scenarios.
3. My Z2 only heats up when Camera/Games are running, which is normal on any phone. Need i remind u other devices are bulky and include heat sinks which reduce heating and all Xperia's are slimmer than any other brand compared and yet built tough to survive. All slim phones heat more, but in Sony i have never seen an issue caused of heating(Been using Sony mobiles since 2011).
4. About 4k recording, last time i tested 4k i was able to hit 67 mins with custom thermal settings and was using DoomKernel on 314 fw. Device was on 67 degrees max. Still nothing happened. All devices that support 4k heats n this feature can be only used for a temporary time, provided Sony gave max time of usage of 4k.
5. Call problems? Again, since u might hv had a defective unit, the speaker might be faulty or u might have done something wrong with some mods installation or something.
6. About the Camera, PLS LEARN TO USE MANUAL SETTINGS. All phones in Auto mode SUCKS BIG TIME. Even the phones with best camera's. Manual Settings gives u the best results. Ask any professional photgrapher and prove me wrong(I challenge u). BTW i have seen Z2 producing best camera results after Lumia(The one with 41mp). If u doubt me, look at this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2673226
Tell me all those snaps by our Z2 users are LAME.. :silly:
Like Envious_Data said, u cant judge an entire brand jus coz of a defective unit. U might be a lil unlucky, but that doesnt mean SONY isn't a good brand. From my experience, Sony has been the PREMIUM device manufacturer unlike most of the brands.. I suggest u do a lot of reading and do a lot of research and experiment with ur device b4 erasing it off..

-Yes, the spaces are real problem as Sony is already guilty about this from the previous phones. Luckily mine does not have any but that does not change the fact that they exist on many phone
- No idea about that one as I only read 1-2 things about it and never faced it in reality (me, my brother and my sister's husband bought 3 Z2s together and than my sister got an Z3 and none had any problems so far, so no experience on this one)
-Overheating is not an issue about daily usage or even heavy usage. It only matters on video recording because when video recording not only CPU cores and GPU being used at the same time but also camera processor (I don't know how this one is called) is heavily working to "catch" all that detail (simply taking 30, 4MP photos every single second and has to catch the light and decide for each pixel). Other than that I have not witnessed overheating cousing disconfort or slowing to phone down (I tried playing games more than 2 hours).
- Again, I haven't experienced this either. So no comments here.
- Camera software is really good actually, every setting is there but raw format. Only bothering thing is the AI which is supposed to choose the right settings. It behaves too "human-like" and "emotional" thus resulting some unrealistic color reproduction sometimes. So if you have time (Hope it's not a bird that you are trying to catch) and patience, it's best to make manual setting.
Anyway, apart from the subjects you mention, Let's compare what the "rivals" offer;
LG: there is G3. unnecessarily high screen resolution with a result that is not any better than Sony's screen thus also resulting worse battery life and more waste of GPU power. Although I like the design, and the placement of the buttons to the back side, very much; Sony has more premium materials and better camera with better results against the OIS, laser focusing camera of LG's.
Besides, G3 comes with two different amounts of RAM which makes me take the company as "disturbingly arrogant after the succesfull Nexus 4,5 and G2 and quickly forgot the days that they were punished by the customers' wallets because of locked bootloader of Optimus G and other unsuccesfull phones". Still, they choose to make things harder for developers after a very developer friendly G2. I believe there is no match in this land to Sony.
HTC; One (M8). HTC has been trying to bring some changes to the game since long time with their Beats Audio and other audio projects. They also tried to change things in the camera section too. I can't say they are doing bad things but I believe 20.7MP is still has higher capability of catching the light better than dual 4MP, bigger pixel camera. And I also believe (and tested) Sony's sound capabilities are better than HTC's when it comes to headphones (which is what is really important for a true music lover in my opinion. Who can truly enjoy the music from a mobile devices speakers? Want real music, use the jack)
On the chipset performance section, One (M8) is still not a rival to Sony's Z2. Not talking about the battery, it's 2600MAh.
Besides (I don't know if things are different from my One X days) HTC devices come with an extra security to try to prevent you from unlocking bootloader and saving themselves when they need to honor the warranty. After losing my patience over my One X's waiting for an S-OFF solution, I run away from HTC and never looked back (I can't even consider Nexus 9, thinking Nvidia and HTC coming together is like another Saw movie, it scares me). In a world even jailbreaking is legal that is too much for an Android user to accept.
Let's come to Motorola/Google; Nexus 6. It's a great rival, an honorable one. And maybe the only one with the ability of putting a real fight. Still, with that 6" screen it's not everyones cup of cake. Design and the specs are gorgeus, so is the screen. But it's big. I came to Xperia Z2 after a long time Note 2, then Nexus 4 usage and it feels right with 5.2" screen. This one is about preferences though, not the actual spec comparison.
Nexus 6 becomes a real deal with it's AMOLED screen (not calibrated by Samsung thankfully), water ressistance, best CPU&GPU and it's cutting edge software. However, when it comes to one-hand compatibility, MicroSD card expantion chance, camera and soudn quality Sony still has it's advantages.
And finally Samsung; S5 and Note 4. I guess I should take Note 4 into account as it's newer and better. Samsung has fingerprint sensor as different from it's rivals. A nice one to accept.
I understand that Samsung is a hardware making company. So they have to create and sell their hardwares and it's easy to see Quallcomm dominated the market since the Nexus 4 attack. Google did this to unify the market. Since the S4 Pro evey Quallcomm chipset has great similarities on their softwares and drivers, mostly their performance vary. This helps developers to measure their fresh-written apps/games on 1 or 2 devices and easily make sure they will run on many devices out there. It sounds good right? Well, Samsung is always bringing their SoCs to the market and always trying to push the limits (sometimes by cheating on benchmarks). On the raw power side, that could seem as a good thing but on the software side it messes things. As a big part of the market, almost every developer has the feeling to make their game/app compatible with Samsung devices. But they come with different SoCs and Samsung refuses to share their own chipsets' source codes. So they just make everything harder for developers. I guess we all know that a well optimised software is always better than the highest hardware.
One more thing about Samsung, they are first company to open their bootloaders to the public and shared every necessary code on their Galaxy S days. This is how they got so respected and made all that money. So they still have the unlocked bootloader but with some ir-reversable flagging system that flags you if you alter anything as small as a rooting attempt to your system. And then, they claim you out of warranty. Besides, as they refuse to share their source codes for their hardware, most developers have really hard time preparing custom ROMs or early fixes etc. for Samsung phones. So basically, Samsung tells you that "you have a phone which comes with an unlocked bootloader so you can do whatever you want with it.........If you can"
If you are a fan of Samsung's software and policy than it's a good semi-independent eco system in Android world. The S-Pen is also good. However I can not take them anymore after the Note II's hard days, waiting for a simply working AOSP ROM.
I know there are other Android companies but these are best-known ones globally and after that comparison I believe Xperia Z2 started to seem better in your eyes. If still not, I can also remind you;
-Sony is the only company which update kernels too,
-Sony is the only company which provides the AOSP code for their devices (the other compaines rather selling their devices as GPEs but apperiently Google has taken this idea down)
-Xperia Z2 has the best music experience throught the headphones among it's rivals
-One of the best (If not best) cameras out there
-Has that DRM keys problem for the "discoverer" people like us but thanks to our developers there is cure to that.
Let me start by saying You guys got me abit wrong. I didn't write all that based solely on my personal experience with the phone. You're definitely wrong about this! Not every's phone Auto Mode sucks. It's a little annoying you created this thread and expect people to agree points substantiated with poor arguments? So what's go great of the S5? Exploding batteries, laggy UI?! M8, the "awesome" camera???
Everyone phone has its flaws, but sadly, the those mentioned for the Z2 are mostly invalid. Overheating won't happen unless you use 4k. Dropped my phone numerous times and not a single scratch on my the glass panel. My unit screen is aligned accurately. I don't know what you're trying to get out of this thread? The thing is Sony started to manufacture phones themselves since Z2 and before that they had a client tied up manufacturing the units. Since they started their own, they had a setback, a lot of defective Z2 units and Sony did agree to replace the defective ones with a proper unit and they did(One of our RC's got his Z2 replaced like 4 times). So when u get a proper unit, u won't be seeing any of these issues. All Z2's having batch nos til 14w21 are defective in one or the other way. Some are major defective and some are minor. Batches after 14w25 are clean as a whistle, aka no defects even if u search with a magnifying glass.

I dont think the call problems i faced have anything to do with the mic,as ive stated,i solved the problem by simply flashing a custom rom(eXistenZ) into it. But Hey! Not everyone would want to root their phones or flash a custom rom just to fix the basic function of a phone!!

Call problem hasn't been a problem on any Z2 i have seen so far. 8 of my friends have bought a Z2 ever since they saw mine. None of them complained any of the issues u faced. Plus Call clarity is better than other phones that i have compared.
You're definitely wrong about this! Not every's phone Auto Mode sucks. Coz iPhone's Auto Mode doesnt suck as much as it does on xz2,(not comparing iOS with Android by any chance)and trust me,it produces some descent shots for the on-the-go photographer like me who wouldn't want/have to temper with manual settings, perhaps i dont know much about it

Android doesn't support RAW exif until Android 5.0. With Lollipop, Image processing changes drastically. But for the better of the performance. Although i disagree with u on this. I even linked u to the pictures thread, did u see it? Did u see atleast 10 pages? I was impressed by the Z2's Camera capability even with 4.4.4(KitKat). On any phone, Auto Mode isn't recommended. Manual Settings are a MUST. If u say otherwise, then the whole photography concept is WRONG. (Which isn't). Even average users use Manual Settings pal, no one uses Auto mode anymore unlike very few.
One thing most of you fail to realize is that an ideal smartphone should aim at satisfying both the average users and the Know-How guys like me and you
And Oh! Does Anybody know how i can reduce the intensity of incoming call vibration on this phone?? Its more like an earthquake

Again, you're able to notice issues nobody else have. Vibration intensity? Its more than normal. Its like 10% of what my Nokia 3310 caused. Now that's what u call an Earthquake, Z2 is fine. If u feel otherwise, you should consider selling it and go for other brands. That's my suggestion. But i'm pretty sure you're gonna come back to Xperia section itself. You should do more research and find facts unlike some sites only provide false stats n reviews.

Or you're a keyboard warrior paid by Samsung?
And how old are you? Your post is riddled with smileys and stuff. If you find this discussion funny, please do not start this thread, you're wasting everyone's time. And your best friend mocked you because he presumed the iPhone takes better photos than the Z2 (not true)?? Such maturity.

Totally agree with that bro @lee480
Kinda useless if you ask me, why such people open new threads like this, they can read the specs and informations on google but for some it is hard to find and it is also useless to compare different devices like Sony v.s. Samsung or any other brand with eachother, every device have his own abilities, so if some dont like the Xperia Range step then over to another one, so they dont have to bother us with they frustrations, simple as that !
Sony is just the best in my eyes and i use it for years and i see and feel the improvements what they bring to us and i dont have any complainings on that.
Sony rocks !!
Sent From Somewhere On Earth With My Z2 ^^
I switch from nexus 5 to z2 hopin it will be on higher ends of things but it turn out to be worse tha N5. The only pro it has over N5 is the screen size and battery life. The camera on z2 is awful. I can take my N5 out and take pics with perfect clarity and brightness in dark restaurant. With my z2, it takes yellowish pictures and dark front camera. I wish I never brought it and now im stuck with it

I admit the z2 camera sucks compared to like the s5 or note 4 or even the g3 in some cases, but against the nexus 5? I am beginning to question your eyesight.
No need to force everyone to agree with your perception. U can sell your device and get a new one, buy the iPhone if u like the features of the Apple. Its so annoying if u keep complaining and forcing people to agree with your logic. Get a life, smartphone is not everything.
+1 @yuskhayru said pretty much what i was going to say
Honnestly Xperias Rival Nokia in terms of camera quality
I have only seen 2 brands truly suprize me with quality and i just mentioned them
Im also dead sick of seeing all this repetitive complaining about silly thing.
If you have a defective unit, Have it replaced.
If you dont like your phone, sell it and buy another.

Anybody on my side?

sorry about your unit you should have it replaced like what others have suggested.
the z2 for me is quite the looker (even compared to z3).
- i don't have the gap issue. my build number is 14w34.
- self cracking? been using it for 3 months now, not a single crack since. (also on tempered glass back to back).
- overheating is normal. we just have to deal with it. especially with 4k and some heavy gfx games.
- mic/call issue? i don't have it
- camera software sucks? if you can flash a custom rom, then surely you might have heard of xposed? not running 20mp superior auto? i usually photograph sceneries and my experience with the z2 has never been more awesome.
*cough, shameless plug *cough : http://instagram.com/cryogenix
not to mention, manual mode is there plus the many other camera shooting modes like background defocus (which is super awesome) and the likes.
and lastly, waterproof (*resist) nuff said.
the only downer for me is that warranty doesn't cover water damage but hey, that's another issue.
my two cents worth
From june 2014 till yesterday when i got my last replacement its 4 UNITS REPLACED for one year, all these faults happend to me , first was the selfcracking backplate , then on the next unit people were unable to hear me , and it backplate opened by itself and wasnt waterproof anymore, so 2days ago got my 4th replacement...its good from one side that you buy phone and after almost year you got still new device, buuuut guys thata not acceptable after all these faults with the 'Z" anf Sony just didnt learn their lessons, same faults on the flagships each new year, dont say to me all these bull****s thats its normal, because its not normal to replace 4 units for 1 year...

Soooo can you report a thread on xda for being useless and a waste of the interwebs?
If you want to complain I suggest you should head over to the sony support forum to vent your frustration. This may have the unintended benefit of someone seeing the rant that could help.
I have to agree that sony z series main weakness is camera software. But did you try used other camera app? It might help you anyway, it is better to have a software deficiency rather than lack of hardware feature. From z to z2 im happy it had improved alot problem only is other oem had improved alot also. Anyway hope sony outshines this. Cause there are no drastically added features in smartphone.
