sgs2 over night dead? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey,
prehisory:
last night, my phone were somewhere in my bed, cus i fell asleep. the wohle night i'm charging my phone always.
(happened a few times, but i think this time i slept over my phone)
next morning i woke up, picked up the phone & wanted to use it, but it got a freeze screen, was medium-temperatured (not more than a little gaming).
didn't thought anything bad, i pulled out my micro usb charger and forced a restart by contiounsly press power.
problem now:
it booted up as normal but it took really longer than usual. it seemed to freeze sometimes during boot, sometimes i canceled booting, and tried another time..
really really strange behaviors happened, but after a long time just let the phone boot, i got dropped to my homescreeen. all was looking good except the whole status bar just wasn't there. damn.. but ok, tried another 1-2 boots, to see if it get stable after a while but that doens't changed anything..
i can't eitgher get into CWM, just into download mode.
ideas?
i thought overheated but i guess that my phone either would'nt boot up (cpu burned) or stays at black screen (gpu burned)?
so i tried getting into CWM which doesn't worked. then i flashed official samsung ics via odin -> boots up till the coulorized "S" appears, stays in this state, and keep bootlooping (see this when the animation starts by this kind of flowers again)
tried another older stock rom, the same. stock kernel, the same, cf-root with CWM4, the same, i cant even then get in CWM..
any idea??
i'm goin crazy on this.. too much money wasted if this wont work -.-

...........

flash a rom like hydrog3n rom, it doesnt need you to fully wipe so most likely you wont get a boot loop, once youve tried that, post here and ill reply

Which part of "i can't eitgher get into CWM, just into download mode. " did you not understand?
OP:
Just flash a ICS rom for now and later you can try to see if it works or not. (CWM)
Have a good day.

Can you get stock recovery?
From Odin flash cwm, not the CFRoot one. than try it, strange you can get download mode but not recovery.
You have to wipe to get rid of boot loop

so, finally i got it back,
did this howto: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
so now i'm back on stock ICS samsungs rom.
flashed the suitable CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPH-v5.2-CWM5.tar
but now i can't access the CWM menue, by pressing power, vol up, home
?

When you say you can't access recovery, what's happening?

PROBLEM SOLVED
YOU FORGOT TO USE THE HOME KEY
1. Put 1 finger on home
2. Put 1 finger on volume up
3. Put 1 finger on top of power
4. Press them all together, and as soon as you see the anything on the screen, let go of everything

i did, it doesnt accessed cwm. never mind tryin around solved it.
now all fresh installed off samsungs official, but it isnt as good as before:
still slow bootup, and my status-bar is missing after booting (using latest miui which i also had before this problem, so formerly it was working)
after bootup, touch keys and all other won't response, so if bootup to lockscreen -> wait til screen goes off -> u cant wake the phone, or u have to wait a while maybe it light up for some reason.
any ideas?
hardware damage? i hope not..

no i think you need a good wipeing. but you need to find a way to get into download mode, dont give up try it 3 more time's, dont keep pressing the after the buttons logo apears

try this or its hardware............ you do any deviation and you are on your own.
remove your external sdcard and dont put it back until you are sure your phone works
as per your above post you can access cwm
1: format data / cache / system / sdcard or emmc [system is a must]
2: format preboot / boot [cwm 5.5 or some alternat if option available]
3: download stock i9100 ROM from checkfus (prefer) or sammobile
4: flash using odin, after first boot dial *2767*3855#
5: do not sign in, use for half hour or so, if you think it works sign in to google.
6: do not restore any thing, no titanium backups/restores
7: do not put your sdcard
if your phone works now you know its not hardware now do whatever

thanks mate you strength my opinion and hope that it isn't hardware.
i already had an stock ICS samsung rom on it, with sd mounted all worked fluently and well. (LPH rom). so i flashed a suitable CF-root with CWM, get in there, flashed custom ROM (latest miui + siyah kernel, the same combination i used for month and it worked).
so but what causes these problems i have? before it was fast booting and stable, now slow and the status bar is missing, the rom wont boot up in a normal way, i have to "bully" my phone while boot that i can see the desktop..
?

And your problem suddenly changed!
Custom ROM issues, download again, download something else, wipe, flash again.

[Q] (probably) big problem with hero

Hi guys!
i just wanted to ask you a question: yesterday i tried to install the floyo rom but i guess something went wrong..after installing the rom via rom manager during the first boot the phone got stuck loading the new rom..it keeps showing "floyo" on the screen but nothing happens...it just keeps loading and loading and loading....is there any way i can boot the phone using the factory presets or something?
thx a lot
HI,
You're not in the right forum section to ask this, but anyway.
That problem could occur time to time, in fact, I had it several times. But don't need to worry, if you're phone is still booting, that's not a big problem then.
What you can do is reflash the rom like you did the first time.
But first, May I suggest you to check if you're phone is actually stock by using logcat ? Because the first boot can be quite long (in my case, it takes around 10~12 min). To do so, use your usb cable, go to command prompt and type
adb logcat
if there are things on the screen, and if that screen is moving, then just be patient...

OK. Open the back of your phone, remove the battery.
Replace the battery and you can try to boot your phone again.
Or you can directly boot into recovery. From this place you have choice to rewipe everything and reflash the rom. Or you can just load your nandroid backup; I assume you made one, did you?
boot your phone with the home button pressed(so press the home key, press hang up(so he will start) and after 10 seconds or so you're in the recovery menu
As above really..
Remove battery, then turn back on holding power and the home button.
This should bring you to the recovery ROM, in their, you can wipe your phone clean, and re flash a new ROM.
If you want to put a new ROM on your SD, you can mount the SD Via USB from the Recovery Menu, or just remove the SD and put in a card reader.
Then wipe/flash new ROM.
From your first post im guessing you tried to install Floyo? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689&page=146 ?

Ruined my SGII with flashing?

Hello all,
I was already in the possesion of a SGII that has been rooted and flashed before. I came from Hyperdroid Androidmeda with Android version 2.3.6. This morning i took the guess it was a nice day to flash a rom with ICS Android 4.0.x. My choice was the rom Resurrection Remix ics v2.5.2.
I followed the exact instructions to Wipe Data, Dalvic Cache and Wipe Cache partitions before i flashed the rom. This went well, at this moment i didn't get any errors or bugs i.e. At the moment my SGII was booted i discoverd the rom a bit. And i came to the conclusion my camera was not working, eve as my outgoing calls. When i called somebody it rang barely one tone before my phone shutted itself down and rebooted. When i get an incoming call i couldn't see the Green answering button neither i saw the red denial button. So i this was just a guess.
But the main problem: I rebooted my phone manually and then he just shut down. I couldn't get him on anymore. On no circumstance it is possible for me to get my phone on. Battery in and out has no effect. Even connecting my phone with an usb cable with the PC gave no reaction. When i connected it to the charger i saw a blink of the loading battery but after a couple seconds my phone went off. And i dont get him on anymore.
What is wrong, what can i do to solve this?
Enter Download mode and check if Odin sees the phone.
Dude..odin pc is your last hope..never mind..it should work...try flashing a rom from there...

I did now try to boot it that way.
I see:

Custom Binary Download: YES (2 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
[GREEN ANDROID MAN]
Downloading...
Do not turn off target !!
And this is showing to me for at least two minutes. Will this take a while?
Try to flash a rom straight forward.....if it works...it works...nd if it dont...it dont

It's clear you don't know how to use download mode. How did you flash your first ROM or root in the first place???
While in this mode, it is expecting you to connect the phone to a computer and use a flashing tool (Odin/Heimdall/etc) to install software to the device.
You can reboot just by holding the power button down for about 10 seconds.

The first rom i flashed was with CWM. It was quite easy and i rooted it more than half a year ago that was not that hard to. This is the third rom i flashed and now it all gets wrong.
I already had my connection between phone and computer but it doesn't respond any further.
At this moment i dont even get him in download/recovery mode anymore. Everytime i try it shows a second of a empty charging battery and it shuts down.

At that point i ain't arrived yet, unfortunately.
Here a guide (with picture) to flash stock firmware with odin, but the process is similar for custom rom.
Hope this help
Now i finally got in download mode again.
I tried to flash the Siyah kernel 3.3.2 via Odin.
In the attachment you see the result which went really well i thought?
But now i rebooted my phone and i only come to the begn screen with Samsung Galaxy SII GT-i9100 and the usual Yellow triangle. At that point it shut down again.

Your in a boot loop now. Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499
Read this as well to better understand Odin and flashing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
When you are in download mode, nothing happens until you connect it to your computer and flash a ROM via Odin (which you will be doing). Next time, read more.

Thanks all for helping me, my phone works again by flashing it back to stock rom.
I dont have any root privileges and the yellow triangle is gone now. I already miss things as changing battery icon and ability to use camera when batterylevel is below 15%.
But for now on i will take a little easy with flashing.
Mate, here is a hint for you. You should really thank people who help you and not just say “thanks." It helps the people who contribute feel like their input was actually appreciated in your problem solving. And not just for one person, but everyone who helps. Just a hint.

[Q] Phone not booting/charging

Hey guys!
Today I flashed an early build of CM11 on my I9100 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523604).
Basically everything went fine, just a few smaller bugs.
But then my phone froze for 2 times so I had to hold down the power button until it shut down. At the first freeze it worked and I could restart my phone but at the second freeze I couldn't restart the phone anymore!
No matter what buttons I hold (power, up-power-home, down-power-home) it just stays black, not even the Samsung logo shows up. When I connect it to the charger the battery icon with the small circle inside appears for some seconds, then goes away, then comes back up and so on...
I really have no idea on what to do so I ask you guys if you have any suggestions
SOLVED: battery was broken
That doesn't look good Did it just froze on its own? Did you do something? Focus on getting to the download mode and flashing stock with odin, if you can't get in the download mode read some instructions for recovering a bricked I9100, you can probably find them at the development sections.

I was just setting everything back up, as i wiped the data before flashing. Unfortunately I can't get in any mode But thank you for your answer, I'll search for bricked S2s
No problem, you can also put the battery out and wait for some time, sometimes it magically works

Already tried that :/ No luck
But I don't think it's related to CM11 directly as it doesn't even get close to booting it.
Yep, you probably got a faulty bootloader or something, this is definitely above the ROM, but i think flashing with odin will solve it, so just try to get in download mode right now.
Just solved my problem
Seems like my battery was broken or something (I had the 2002mAh extended battery inside). I put back the original battery and the phone booted normally!

Bootloop, Not rooted

So my phone started restarting randomly. It will only show the Samsung logo turn off and do the same thing again. Its not rooted and I am pretty sure that its not from something I installed recently (Everything was from the play store and no immediate problems after any of them). When I did the hold volume up,down and power it would only keep on restarting still. But when I just hold volume down it comes to something else that asks if I want to install a new rom. So I was wondering what I should do. Install a new ROM and then revert back ? or will that not work? Also I have a extra I717 with a broken screen I could swap the insides and see if that would help. Also I don't know much about rooting and stuffs. Lemme know what I should do guys! :highfive:

Take out the battery. Insert the battery without touching anything else. Does it just power on itself or does it stay off? If it does turn on, you might have a stuck power button. Let us know what happens
did that too :/
I did that too. It would turn off and on again but only show the Samsung logo then restart again. Also I have the case removed so It cant be the power button being stuck and I have tried the battery thing still nothing.
Whatcha mean? It would turn on by itself once the battery is inserted or you would have to press the power button. Once the battery is out and then inserted back in, it is not supposed to be powered on by itstelf. If it does turn on by itself, then the power button is most likely pressed in.

I have a I717 doing the same thing. (Eg. device boots and seems to function for a about 2 minutes locks up and reboots. )
As the device was stock when it started having this issue I figured it might be an OS issue Factory reset to it would leave the device booting to optimize applications then reboot. Checked power button checked it was clean.
Also staied on when in recovery without issue.
As I figured this was an OS issue I installed CWM
Downloaded and installed SlimBeam
Device booted and completed instlation and operated for about 2 minutes and rebooted.
Device will does not have any issues with in CWM or Odin. I
I read alsowhere that the internal SD-Card filesystem might have become corrupted and need to be reformated however I have yet to find instruction or confirmantion.
Anyone have some ideas?
.
to Tal Star.
1. When you were in CWM and were about to flash, did you wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache then do the flash? Or just flash?
2. So either os it would do the same? Stay on for about two minutes, then reboot? Would it reboot back into the os and do the same?

Naw it starts optimzing the Applications and lasts a few minutes reboots locks up and starts again. SlimBean completes the process and makes it all the way to the launcher but after a same amount of time it reboots. back to the launcher. (Slim bean has a resonable number less Apps and that's why it completes or is my best guess)

Could be a corrupt download.
Again, I always flash rom 2 times. You can get different reactions from 2 seperate flashes. 2 time seems to get a more solid installation.
Wait your 10 and reboot.
Still think its a power button issue. It can act normal but still be the problem. Hows you battery?

I dobut it's a download. I use CWM to flash from an external SD card. However I did try reflashing like you suggest with no change. The battery is fine as far as I can tell, like I said it will stay online in recovery on battery for what seems like forever.

Nope I am working on the one I have with the SIM Card out & SD card out.
happens
So what I done so far is taken out the sim and sd card. Took out the battery put it back in and when I power to turn it on It vibrates (like it normaly would when it starts) then shows Samsung logo turns off and loops. I tried doing the hold volume up down power thing and it does not work. But what does work is when I hold volume down it takes me to a custom OS thing. I don't know what that is but I cant get there. So maybe put a custom OS in and then revert it back?
So I used Odin and put 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Official Firmware but its still doing what it was doing before.Used 3.07 and it said it passed fine. Should I try a different rom or something else? Also the first time it starts up after installing the rom it goes past the logo to the ATT ball animation logo freeze there and turns of then when I turn it on from there it will loop at the samsung logo again.
You can try the firmware upgrade and initialization feature in kies. It will return your device to the original factory firmware, software, and settings. If it still loops after that you have hardware issues.
Ok so I guess im making progress now. After I put the stock rom (Different one from befor) It DIDNT BOOT LOOP well it did but only looped 3 times then stoped. Also there are 2 Samsung logos. the frist one was just normal logo ( same one I was having befor ) then the screen turns off and shows the same logo but this time its a little bigger its white with a blue glow! ( Made it further this time but still crashes afterwards) BUT now I can actualy get into the Manual mode. I did a wipe data/factory reset in that mode which didnt help i wiped the cache too. Still didnt help.
Now in manual mode my computer does recognize that something is connected to it now but it tries to configure it and keeps on failing. And so samsun kies cant connect to it either.
But from where I started at its a improvement
My Note is doing the same thing too now, but I know the reason why. I was trying to install clockworkmodrecovery so I would be able to upgrade to jellybean and I think I flashed a kernel that was meant for rooted phones (pretty dumb of me I guess). So now the phone is stuck and I'm going to try to install the original jellybean 4.1.2 for rogers and hopefully that will fix it.
As long as you can get into Odin download mode, your phone can be fixed.

O2 UK original Firmware for Galaxy S3

Hi all, I have tried to unlock my galaxy S3 gt i 9300, which is locked to O2 UK. I live in Ireland and bought the phone from a guy on e bay. I got the unlock code from two different sources and both are the same, but neither will unlock the phone, I have tried the unfreeze code too but it gets me nowhere. Entering the keyboard codes does not work either. The firmware baseband version which is on the phone at present is I9300XXUGMK6, the build number is JSS15J.I9300XXUGNA5, I feel that if I can get the phone back to it's original O2 UK firmware then I might be able to unlock the thing. My problem is that I have found I9300XXALE8_I9300O2UALE5_O2U to be the original firmware, but the link to it from every site is dead and I cannot download it, all the links were to hotfile and we all know what became of it. If anyone has any other suggestions as to how I might unlock my phone then I would be more than happy to try them.
Best wishes Wez
Flash the latest o2u, root it with cf autoroot, nvdata unlock method. Do not attempt to go back from 4.3 as you will half cabbage your phone. The efs changed.

Many thanks I will try that now and let you know how I get on, though the guy I got the second code from tells me the phone should not be rooted, if it is he says that the code will not work. But anything is worth a try so I will try it before I root the phone.

Many thanks I will try that now and let you know how I get on, though the guy I got the second code from tells me the phone should not be rooted, if it is he says that the code will not work. But anything is worth a try so I will try it before I root the phone.
Thanks again best wishes Wez

At the risk of sound stupid, I am going to ask one question, where do I find said latest stock ROM for my O2 UK S3, because all the ones I find are not on any link that works, they nearly all try to send me to hotfile, would seem that nobody has taken the trouble to put up any mirror download links, which has left me very frustrated. Hope someone can please point me in the right direction, because I have a phone which is of no use to me.
Best wishes and good luck Wez

Many thanks am downloading the latest rom from there now, hopefully this will do the job. I will not be able to try it till tomorrow morning as it is very slow downloading, but I can leave it all night and use Odin to flash the phone.
Good luck Wez
Samsung updates are always on slow hosts. It costs a lot of money to hire server space and free hosts that do over a Gb is as rare as hens teeth.. how did you get on?

Many thanks to all who helped with my problem, I managed to get my s3 unlocked, just need to get it rooted now and get rid of the stupid thing keeps going to safe mode when booted normally, but if I boot whilst holding the home key (the middle one at the bottom) then the phone will try to boot into download mode, I then hit the volume down button and hole the home key again, this time the phone reboots itself and will boot into a non safe mode. Though this is not ideal and someone needs to find a cure for this, it is better than nothing. Tried to flash the resurrection remix ROM, but it stopped when a bit was done and failed will try some other custom ROM when I get the chance, at the moment my phone is keeping going back to the recovery screen.
Will let you know what happens, best wishes Wez

To get out of the recovery boot lock I had to leave the phone with the battery out of it for about 5 minutes, I was then able to get into download mode, by booting with the volumes down and home buttons held. I then used Odin to reflash the stock firmware again, which it did OK.Then I needed to root the phone again so I did that. I then downloaded the Android Revolution DH-SGS3, moved it to the external SD card, rebooted into recovery and flashed it to the phone, but again the phone went into it's crazy recovery boot loop, at the moment I have the battery out of kit and will try replacing it now and booting into the new ROM. It appears to be booting into the rom now, it has been on the Samsung screen for a while now and I am hoping that it will boot into the rom given a little time, this being it's first boot. OK all booted up OK, the only problem that remains is the bleeding thing booting into safe mode, but lots of people have got that.
Happy days, best wishes Wez
I have never encountered that issue before. When exactly did the boot issue start?
Glad you got this far!.

The boot issue started after I had tried to flash with another rim, which I feel was not fully downloaded, at any rate the flash was abandoned and when I went back through the options and hit the reboot now, it went into the loop. I had to remove the battery and leave it out for about 5 minutes, less might have done, when I reinstalled the battery, I went into download and using Odin flashed the phone with a stock rom and rooted it, then I flashed the android revelation rom, the phone again got stuck on the loop, this time I took the battery out the phone and left it, again for about 5 minutes, then replaced the battery and hit the power button and the phone booted into the rom, after a few minutes. I have been using this rom for a while now, but have noticed that for some reason the sound, for everything goes of completely, nit found a cure for that yet, but I am downloading the Echoe rom now, it will soon be finished, and I am going to flash it as soon as I can. I have the Echoe rom on my SGS4 and like it very much. I shall let you know if I have the same problem with this rom, when I flash it, the loop that is.

The Echoe ROM flashed without any further loop and to my surprise the phone did not boot into safe mode, so an improvement there, with both. But the sound is still a problem. I have since the first boot had to reboot several times and the damned thing is back to the bloody safe mode. To get round it now I have to hold the volume down, the home and power keys, to take me to the screen for download, when there I push the volume down and the phone goes to reboot, in it's own, while it is doing that I hold the home button, the phones boots without going into safe mode. I have tried to do it the way I was before, but it is not working that way now, so got to go down the way of booting into the download screen, but at least it works.
Very best wishes and good luck Wez
Interesting.. it would seem that the issue lies with custom roms. Which recovery are you using? Cwm 6032 is a good recovery to start with, moving on to 6047. I had issues with twrp.
