[Q] ics rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys sorry but i want to ask you something.
there are 100 of ics roms which are almost the same.
in the galaxy si9000 or galaxy nexus there are htc sense ports, xperia ports. so why there aren't so nice roms on our lovely galaxy?!

Because you haven't made them yet. Let others know when they're ready.

do you think tgere are sense ports and so on?

oh i forgot:
do you think there are sense ports etc in future

No they only close multiple i want sense idiot posts .
other phone load/run port sense, only galaxy s2 not.
So far nobody has the time to solve the varying problems porting sense to SGS2 plus a lack of interest .
A suggestion find a Dev willing to port to SGS2 and donate to them a SGS2 to work on .But i guess you want something for nothing and that is Senseless .

An idea: port HTC sense 3.0 to G s2 ?

This phone makes a different life for me... its hardware is awesome and fabulous looking.
I was an HTC user before and I m fascinated by the sense UI.
Is it possible to port the sense 3.0 to this phone? Haha
( I know someone may say why not I buy a sensation and the ans is the appearance of sensation is sucks.)
Thank you
Hi,
...not the first one with this idea/wish here.
I will try to summarize it:
Porting HTC Sense seems to be not impossible, but very hard because Sense is written not to work on other phones. I'll never find a port for the S1, so it cant be that easy.
Even i share your wish, nobody can say if sense ever will run well on other devices.
But there are ways to get the optic like Sense, more or less...
One way is to use LauncherPro Plus and skins / widgets like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017791 (Messages,Facebook,Calendar like Sense). There are a lot of "launchers" and widgets to customize your Android in many ways, so you could say that a real port is not THAT necessary.
May other users can post better or free widgets to get a lock-a-like Sense.
And maybe some coders find a way to port Sense when the S2 is more common, but i wouldn't bet...

sense is senseless.
Sorry for asking such noon question
I just switch from HTC and forget to use the search button. My fault
But Sense 3.0 is getting better than ever. Some stuffs is not good at all like wasting RAM usage...
Maybe wt I concern is its interface.
It compromises all my account .... and much

if you want Sense, then you should better get the sensation instead of the SGS2, because the SGS2 will probably never get it

As I said before, sensation got a pathetic look and that is one of the reason I choose SII.
U may be right. As a samsung user, I should accept wt samsung offer.
But wt i come up is an idea....idea can be possible or not.
someone gonna port the sense to nexus S, and why not the SII ?
JUST an idea

don't forget nexus s != SGSII
it would probably take 1 year or more for an unstable sense release on the SGS2.
Why are people so addicted to SENSE?
I mean, there are many alternatives like tochwhizz/Launcher Pro/ADW launcher ex/go launcher
wich do the job aswell, and are MUCH more lightweight then sense, and you can make them look like sense.
HTC Sense is like game consoles. It makes people dumber.
So, I recommend buying HTC Sensation if you want Sense 3.0
Finished
Thing about sense is not the look of it, but its connection and cooperation with Social Networks, I love sense only because its automaticaly syncing my contact with facebook, on clear android its possible as well, but I have to do it one by one. And my calendar will never connect to the Facebook one, so I cant see birthdays and Facebook events, which is very handy(no I dont really remember birthdates of my friends). Unfortunately NONE of those 'senselike' widgets will ever be able to do this, and this is the thing why I like Sense(even tho I dont use it atm)
Now as HTC Released the Sense SDK I'd say we might be step closer to be getting Sense on other devices as well, however I am afraid that nobody will do it... look at the die-hard Samsung fans, they think we're dumb and stupid, just because we like our UI... Honestly, I dont like this approach, however arent we the same? If someone came on HTC threads asking if we can port TouchWiz on HTC, wouldnt we react the same?
Ya totally agree wt u said, everyone may have different ideas and flavour. Android is possible to happen everything. It depends on our passion.
No doubt again I love gs2 looking but sense UI rather than touch wiz.

I second that, brilliant written.
coming from Desire HD, I see this non-integration of Facebook Calender as huge drawback. Also, agree with the contacts, they sync with facebook in Sense.
If I knew the programming part, I would have ported Sense to SG2!

Actually if you logged in to facebook for samsung social hubs you will be able to integrate facebook calendar. I love how the SGS2 comes feature packed out of the box. Not as elegant as HTC but they're both packing apps that you're never gonna use so why bother. The email app for samsung has been greatly improved and the only thing missing is the checkbox.
Wishfull thingking: Sense 3.0 on SII + Hardware Accelerated....

[Q] Sense?

i no its pretty crazy but is it possible to get sense eventually on the Gtab 10.1?
obviously there will not be an update for sense i mean is it possible to port sense to the tab ... eventually
It is a no -non-sense tab, no sense in installing the Sense nonsense.
I know its a non-sense tab but i had a mytouch and a nexus one and both didnt have sense but i put it on both of them. Im pretty much asking if its possible to port a sense tab rom from like te htc jetsream or somw thing.
I am rooted btw

Possible? Probably. But worth it? That is the question. It is not usually desireable to port closed source frameworks to a different device or different manufacturer as things are likely to be broken and much more difficult to fix. I would say yes it can be done and you can ask but I'm not sure who would pick it up.
I would like to see that happen too, Sense would be pretty nice on the tab 10.1

[Q] Will ROM development for the S2 die once S3 is out?

SO right now we're all enjoying the numerous amount of ROMS on the S2. Once the S3 comes out won't all the attention of ROM developers be focused towards it?
think so jus like the sgs1 ,i got no updates jus few devs who r modyfying the same version....
There are only a few rom development going here.
Most of them are cooked, though they are nice I would love to see difference Between them not only in look.
Also cm9/aokp custom roms will be there for years as they are matured for sgs2, but Samsung roms? I think it would be limited

Cm9 will be ur life I guess unless codeworks quits then i will start panicking.I don't want to leave sgs2 dang only 1 yr has passed..

I hope you were missing a /s at the end of that comment. SGS2 wont die, sure dev activity may not be as high as a new device but with the ever growing collection of MIUI, CM9, AOKP and Stock based builds around it's far from dead. If anything, this is where its maturity actually works in its favour. The ROMs that are simply a theme, performance script tweaks and a kernel will begin to fade and dedicated developers/cookers will/are becoming more apparent. It happens with every device and the SGS2 is no exception. I also fully expect it to get the next version of Android as it has more than enough raw power to keep it going for years to come, Samsung wouldn't have a reasonably justified reason to cut off its support like they may have with the SGS.
Will keep this phone till next nexus or s4 as I just bought s2 this January
Hope that codeworkx shouldn't leave

A few ROM Questions..

Hello all, been on these forums a while but never really posted that much, never posted in the Galaxy S3 section. I originally started with a Galaxy S2, then went to a HTC One X and I'm not firmly back with the device that i love, the Galaxy S3, however...
I'm a stock person, but i love tweaks/mods, the reason i love Stock so much on the Galaxy S3 is the Smart-stay feature (i don't believe its on any of the custom Roms for the GS3??) and the Multi Window (again i don't believe its available on any custom Roms?).. so I'm wondering if there are any Roms that either keep the two features i love the most in them, and have some nice tweaks/mods. :good:
I'm grateful in advanced to anyone who replies with help

Pretty much all the Samsung based custom Roms have these features
Hi
since your question is not about "best rom" (against rules), but rather about which custom rom's support smart stay and multi window, I will dare to reply

All the roms have a readable description on the first page .

Yep , all features are in custom rom's. Im in uk and there was no update for the phone so I was without stay smart, multiwindows etc but now all is here. Look for best rom that suits you as i already tried 4 different before choosing The One.
Good Luck!
I tried CyanogenMod 10.1 but that doesn't have SmartStay or Multi-Window in??

[Q] Lollipop from Note 2 to S3 ???

Hi everyone, well, Ive noticed galaxy note 2 is going to receive the last version of android (lollipop) oficially by sammy. I found the notice here in sammobile:
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/12/23...lipop-update-for-galaxy-note-2-and-galaxy-s4/
As far as I know, the international version of both devices (note 2 and s3) have the same chipset: Exynos 4412. So I was wondering if due to this we can expect to see ports from note 2 to our lovely s3 .
Is just a little question, as Im not a developer, and I read a post somewhere in xda saying it couldnt be posible to have oficial ports of the latest version of android in our s3 because of samsung and its no-documented chipset exynos, making ports almost imposible from other devices.

Questions go in the q&a area.
Hard to tell maybe, maybe not.
We already have developers working on a couple of LP's for our device, so I would say they will not port it anytime soon.
Either wait for them to be daily drivers or wait for a port.

Sorry for posting this here hehehe. I know the hard work from the developers as arter97 who has become a little famous, and Im sure we will have some stable versions of lollipop to our devices. Well, as i told you, im not a developer, but I want to know, it wouldnt be easier making a port from a device who has the same chipset than making a new AOSP based ROM?
I apreciate all the work from our developers and i dont want to question that, you have the knowlede and im the newbie who make all that dummy questions heheheh

Im not a developer either so im nit really sure whats involved but i agree with your theory.
Thanks for answer me, is nice to know Im not the only one who think that . All we can do in this moment is wait to see what happen, who knows, maybe we get oficially upgraded by sammy , anyways, we cant expect nothing soon, everything still under development c:
Have a nice day bro.
