Hi there
I've noticed in a few of the other forums (while looking for a desire owning friend) that there are a few desire froyo sense roms popping up
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724123
I was just wandering if this meant that at some point we would see similar developments on the ol' hero?
Cheers
boch501
yeahhh it would be nice to have
Porting from desire would be horrible, due to very different hardware, different screen size and different screen ratio.
Very doubtful that a desire port will ever happen. There's really no point as the legend (which is far easier to port from) will get an update to 2.2, and thats a much better bet.
Patience! the devs at the moment are just trying to get a perfect AOSP 2.2 rom first!
yeah it's look like a very good rom, if it's possible to port it on a htc hero, i take it
In Q&A Not development please...
Probably have to wait for the slide to get 2.2 w/sense before it gets ported over

I "gave up" sense full time not that long ago really, and now I don't think I will ever want to go back. As soon as you think it through and make a list of what you actually like about sense, you can soon realise that better things can happen without it.
widgets are easily replaceable or forgotten, UI in some launchers are much much better than sense, better settings and better roms

Sadly not for me (yet!). Things stopping me from going Vanilla:
Flickr Sync... soon to change http://www.flicka.mobi/
Music Widget... http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.piratemedia.musicmod Froyo Only
Bookmarks Widget... no solution (Live Bookmarks maybe?)
Music PLayer LockScreen ... no solution

I did give up Sense for a bit but I missed the widgets the bottom bar sucks compared to LauncherPro, its the widgets that bring me bac.
im using vanilla or froyo depending on mood and what day!
I have used froyo w/sense on my mates desire and i cant wait for it to be on the hero (probably have a better phone by then but nevermind) all the things that put me of sense 2.1 arent there in sense 2.2.... No lag going from screen to screen! stupidly fast (he gets 38-42 on linpack) and hd recording (only on snapdragon i know) if you know someone with a desire cionvince them to root it and put 2.2 on im sure you vanilla fans will love it!!
Hi there. Im pretty new to Android, but im guessing the answer to this question would be yes. Im also guessing that this would require rooting the SGS2?
Thanks
Not atm. Might be available in the future if some dev put ALOT of work into it, tho I doubt it myself...
Will require root yes.

Thanks for that
maybe after they finish the port on Nexus S, currently on 0.2 working
If you really want Sense that bad, maybe you should go with the HTC Sensation..? It's just as good as the SGS2 (Spec wise)
i am about to buy a new phone and am stuck on this very question
is the s2 going to get a sense ROM???
the original galaxy s still doesnt have a fully functional sense ROM
I have to purchase my phone within the week and the sensation will not be available before mid june
Sure it's possible but I'd imagine it would be a fair bit of work. Hopefully once this phone hits more markets we'll get a few more devs to work on projects like these

I'm not sure why you'd purchase a GSII if you want Sense. To answer your question, the only way to KNOW the GSII is going to get the ROM is to make it yourself. None of us on here can tell you it will happen, or won't happen, with any certainty. It seems extremely unlikely to me though, as most seem to either be satisfied with TouchWiz 4.0 or are interested in something more AOSP-y.
Why can't you wait an extra week or 2 for the Sensation? That seems a much better option for you.

You can make the phone look like sense... With launcher pro plus and a sense mod you can find on this forum. Launcher pro plus has the same look for the widgets, like friendstream.
The sense mod had the sense themes, the dock and so on...
With widgetlocker you can get the sense lockscreen.

I always thought that XDA-Dev is about doing such things, just because you can, not because you need it.
It is, but some people seem to forget that. They also can't think beyond two feet in front of them either, so you will have to remember that when you listen to/read what others have to say.

I'm not doubting that. But remember how much work it is to port something like Sense, and that work needs to be coupled with a desire to do it by someone with a lot of talent. The SGSII may get a stable Sense port, it's entirely possible. But look at the progress made on the original SGS. Last time I looked it was alpha stuff that really wasn't all there yet, and that device has been out a year now. No one should be making any kind of decision on the SGSII with the hope that Sense will be ported.

True, but one can always ask right? Or if you have the tools and knowledge, you can chip in and help to find a solution if it exists. I didn't buy my SGSII in hopes of getting a sense port, but wondering if it was possible shouldn't get me or anyone else flamed for asking either.

You're not getting flamed. There's just an inordinate number of threads asking about Sense on the GSII, and the answer is pretty easy. It's definitely possible, why wouldn't it be, when it's one Android build to another? The real question to answer is...is how difficult will it be and is it likely to happen. I gave you my opinion. If you disagree or don't like it that's fine, it's just my opinion

I'm glad you presented it as your opinion, and you're right in that I can agree or disagree with it. But you aren't the type of person I was referring to. I can respect anyone that presents their case in a clear and concise manner, but I have no respect for people that do nothing but interject with nothing pertinent to add to the discussion. All they do is spout off their opinion like it's gospel and you should agree with them, and if you don't, then you're an idiot.

This phone makes a different life for me... its hardware is awesome and fabulous looking.
I was an HTC user before and I m fascinated by the sense UI.
Is it possible to port the sense 3.0 to this phone? Haha
( I know someone may say why not I buy a sensation and the ans is the appearance of sensation is sucks.)
Thank you
Hi,
...not the first one with this idea/wish here.
I will try to summarize it:
Porting HTC Sense seems to be not impossible, but very hard because Sense is written not to work on other phones. I'll never find a port for the S1, so it cant be that easy.
Even i share your wish, nobody can say if sense ever will run well on other devices.
But there are ways to get the optic like Sense, more or less...
One way is to use LauncherPro Plus and skins / widgets like
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017791 (Messages,Facebook,Calendar like Sense). There are a lot of "launchers" and widgets to customize your Android in many ways, so you could say that a real port is not THAT necessary.
May other users can post better or free widgets to get a lock-a-like Sense.
And maybe some coders find a way to port Sense when the S2 is more common, but i wouldn't bet...

don't forget nexus s != SGSII
it would probably take 1 year or more for an unstable sense release on the SGS2.
Why are people so addicted to SENSE?
I mean, there are many alternatives like tochwhizz/Launcher Pro/ADW launcher ex/go launcher
wich do the job aswell, and are MUCH more lightweight then sense, and you can make them look like sense.
HTC Sense is like game consoles. It makes people dumber.
So, I recommend buying HTC Sensation if you want Sense 3.0
Finished
Thing about sense is not the look of it, but its connection and cooperation with Social Networks, I love sense only because its automaticaly syncing my contact with facebook, on clear android its possible as well, but I have to do it one by one. And my calendar will never connect to the Facebook one, so I cant see birthdays and Facebook events, which is very handy(no I dont really remember birthdates of my friends). Unfortunately NONE of those 'senselike' widgets will ever be able to do this, and this is the thing why I like Sense(even tho I dont use it atm)
Now as HTC Released the Sense SDK I'd say we might be step closer to be getting Sense on other devices as well, however I am afraid that nobody will do it... look at the die-hard Samsung fans, they think we're dumb and stupid, just because we like our UI... Honestly, I dont like this approach, however arent we the same? If someone came on HTC threads asking if we can port TouchWiz on HTC, wouldnt we react the same?
Ya totally agree wt u said, everyone may have different ideas and flavour. Android is possible to happen everything. It depends on our passion.
No doubt again I love gs2 looking but sense UI rather than touch wiz.

I second that, brilliant written.
coming from Desire HD, I see this non-integration of Facebook Calender as huge drawback. Also, agree with the contacts, they sync with facebook in Sense.
If I knew the programming part, I would have ported Sense to SG2!

Actually if you logged in to facebook for samsung social hubs you will be able to integrate facebook calendar. I love how the SGS2 comes feature packed out of the box. Not as elegant as HTC but they're both packing apps that you're never gonna use so why bother. The email app for samsung has been greatly improved and the only thing missing is the checkbox.
Wishfull thingking: Sense 3.0 on SII + Hardware Accelerated....
Anybody care to hazard a go at getting Honeycombed HTC Sense to the touchpad? now that the source code's been released
What port would they bring? The honeycomb Version from the evo view 4g?
Sense is to incorporated. Into the OS it would be more work than worth.. let along sense is a RAM hog.... it wouldn't be very fast
Sense is bad enough on the phones. Thank the phone Gods for CM7 sent to fix them.
Evo view 4g or the Jetstream one too since the jetstream has the same SoC as the touchpad
I asked about doing this before....people thought
I was crazy

well the ROM is there....the source is there....Honeycomb source is there aswell
we all know what htc are like when it comes to updates so i'm not expecting ICS till about february
I would pass on anything that is running sense.
However, honeycomb with TouchWiz UX from the Galaxy Tab would get me excited.
Honeycomb was finally open sourced when ICS was also released, but you still need to start from scratch. So, I doubt we will ever see honeycomb on the TouchPad, when an equal amount of work will give us ICS.
Plus, Sense was not open sourced. Sense is proprietary software owned by HTC, so any ports of Sense (and for the same reason TouchWiz from Samsung) would be borderline illegal at best. So, if it is done, I don't think it will be distributed or supported on XDA.
For the TouchPad we will have to rely on CyanogenMod, MIUI, or other cross platform builds (don't know of any).

I would also like to see this. I love the way sense looks on tablets. I Thought that Leoisright was going to try and do it, but he is doing a Xron version of CM7 right now, so i don't know if he gave it up, but he would be your best bet to ask to do this. Send him a PM and tell him that people do want this. Good luck.
ok before a fist fight breaks out lets just get things down to ground level lol....people prefer cm7 thats fine, doesn't mean bash the fact that it'd be nice to see sense on the touchpad lol
back to the point. if we can get enough people who'd like sense (i'll make a vote thing) then perhaps leo wouldn't mind having a look at this too
I thought that was more of a publicity stunt. I thought the arrangement was that people could alter and or enhance Sense, not freely take it to install on other devices. Sense is the only thing HTC has to differentiate itself.
Regardless, while sense is not for me, I agree more variety would be better for everyone. If it is possible, then I'm all for it, I just thought this was akin to the Windows 8 talk.

Hello there!! I wanted to make this poll to see what the fellow users here in the Amaze forums prefer, Sense or AOSP.
On one hand, we have the original, pure, vanilla android interface. Simple, nothing so complicated and still, yet to come the Amaze, "the pure Google experience". There is no rom that is FULLY stock, with the exception of BeastMOD and SenseLess which are almost de-sensed completely.
And on the other, we have the long running Sense, courtesy of HTC. With lots of eye candy, lots of widgets, and an obsession with weather, Sense is very diverse and customizable. One of the latest versions of it, 3.0, is included with the Amaze, and most of the custom roms for it are Sense.
Many people, love sense, others hate it and prefer AOSP over it. So, its simple, choose your preferred interface, and leave a comment of you want xD

You know what I find is funny?
For devices like G1, MyTouch even Vibrant a bunch of people really want Sense.
Now that you have a device that has Sense out of the box nobody seems to want it.
Here's what I have to say about it: If you don't want it, don't buy it. I happen to be a large fan of the Sense UI. I don't care about how "bloated" it feels or anything like that.
I used to make themes for the devices that didn't have Sense to at least give it a "Sense" look and feel. People went out of their way to edit the Sense UI apps just to make them available for devices that don't come with it.
So now that we seem to have the perfect device to run Sense... you all want to get rid of it?
I don't get it. If you don't like Sense then why by a phone with it??? Someone please explain that to me.

Very valid point,
here's my view
I happen to like HTC since i loved my nexus one, and I bought this phone mainly for it's camera, nothing else is like it on T-mobile right now. I neither hate fan nor like it there are parts of it I like and parts I don't. I bought the SGSII first and hated it, I hated the screen resolution and how big it was...this phone just felt good...Sometimes even if you don't like sense, there are no other options, every individual wants something different and not all cellphones deliver everything in one package. I was initially waiting for the galaxy nexus and just got tired of waiting. I hated the pentile screen when I looked at it in the store (even If I ordered over seas) NO dedicated camera button, this is what I really wanted. I also wanted a 720p screen like the rezound, If I could I would get the rezound, but it doesn't have dedicated camera buttons and I want that. it has the same exact camera as the amaze. a 720p screen on a 4.3 inch screen which gives better dpi than the retina display...But I have no choice, I'm not going to pay 180 monthly just to get that phone...right now I pay 60 bucks on a shared plan and get unlimited everything with 5 gigs of unthrotled data. I also like this about android and like things about the iphone, I can't have it all in one package.
I use locker widget, and adw launcher and I'm happy with it...I do not hate the sense launcher, or the lockscreen, I just prefer my own customization. I love what they've done with their camera app. I like their calendar application. I like their parts of their contact and dialer app and hate parts of it.
I talk too much!!!

Peoples always wanted what they don't/can't have. Simple
I myself love to have a Sense Rom mainly due to its lock screen and weather widget and a few more stuff but also running ADW so I can switching back and forth every other week or so
Personally I think Sense based Rom give me more options. If tired of looking at Sense, switch to other launcher and apps or vice versa whereas ASOP based wouldn't let me have Sense stuff if I so desired
Just because a phone comes with Sense doesn't mean it's the main attraction of the device. Did people buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 for TouchWiz? I sure hope not. There are other features of a product that convince people to purchase it. Specs, look and feel, cost-efficiency, and availability all factor in and affect this. The Amaze happens to feel like a really premium product with high end specs to boast. It also happens to come with Sense.
I don't hate Sense, but I just find it to be too non-customizable and would always use a third party launcher like ADW Launcher or Go Launcher anyway, so Sense means little to me.

Personally I think Sense based Rom give me more options. If tired of looking at Sense, switch to other launcher and apps or vice versa whereas ASOP based wouldn't let me have Sense stuff if I so desired

Then go ahead and have your vote
I sense garbage.
This is my second htc sense phone.
You like sense until you try something else for a while.. Then you can't stand it.
We all have our own opinions.. It's fine, but for me it's a nice eye candy developed system that I can not stand and can't wait for cm7, 9 or something else.
Also a reason why I have adw launcher.
Talking of CM I kinda missed it alot.
Many great features: crt built-in, toggle widgets on top of pull-down notification panel, brightness adjust by sliding the status bar ect ... And separate lock screen wallpaper
Too many customization Sense lack
I switched back to sense for the beats audio

People who vote sense have not experienced a good AOSP rom, if at all.
First, thanks for fixing my thread. And second, I prefer sense, altough I can live with Aosp.

No problem.
I like sense, I like AOSP, just depends on how I feel that day. With all the themes, Roms, tweaks and different launchers, we can pretty much do what we prefer on any given day. I still have a cliq lol running 2.3.4 gingerbread aosp, a HD2 running Sergios core cell rom, and my "NEW" Amaze stock, patiently waiting for new developement.
Sense has great eye-candy and great integrated apps which is my kind of thing. like the built in task manager, built in social media, built in music player. its all better than stock IMO. Stock gets boring to me for some reason
I personally have no problem with sense, it's just the size, I like using my system partition for apps, but I do like the facebook and tight music control integration!

I deleted the last poll.
