Using the stock app on ICS leak and have everything set to manual in all the options, yet it keeps pushing email to my phone and using more battery. I no rally check my email maybe once a day but now I get it pushed all say and it gets annoying. Anyone know what I may have set wrong? Or is it bugged

You have background data turned off or just the settings on the app set to stop the push?
just the settings on the app
Background data could still be on, so the app might be actually pulling it to the phone instead of getting it pushed to your phone.
If you go to system settings, then Accounts and Sync, you can turn off background data so it only syncs when you run the app.

Hi guys,
Very odd problem with the Mail application on my Thunderbolt. Sometimes it refuses to automatically download mail and sync during peak times and the only explanation I can think of is that the system is in power save mode even though I have power save disabled.
-Auto-sync is enabled
-Background Data is enabled
-Power saver is totally disabled
-Update schedule is set to Every Day and within the peak times.
-Not using juice defender or task killer
-Stock android.. just did a clean install with the MR2
-Set to 15 minute intervals, 8am to 11pm peak time.
I'm pretty savvy with the android system and honestly am at a loss as to the reason why this happens. I can sometimes fix it by toggling the background data and sync multiple times but I do not have a clear cut solution yet.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I have seen people have problems with synching while using task killers that have an auto-kill mode and people who use Juice Defender.
Yep, not using a task killer as those are proven to be useless
What about Juice Defender, do you use that? Also you listed that you have your synch schedule set for everyday during peak times...do you mean once a day on peak times or what interval do you have it set as?
Do you notice any other app that uses an internet connection malfunctioning during the day?
15 minute intervals during peak times. My peak times are 8:00am to 11:00pm. I don't really notice any other app besides mail malfunctioning. But then again I don't really have any apps that use the internet. Facebook seems to be giving me notifications on time. It's really just the mail app which refuses to update automatically. Some tinkering around and syncing all seems to sometimes fix it but i have no clue how. Such an odd and annoying problem.

You don't mention what you are trying to sync with the mail app, but I had the same problem with my Incredible and exchange. After deleting and restoring my settings 4 times, I bought Touchdown for $20 on the market and have never looked back. They offer a fully functional 30 day trial. If its exchange you are trying to sync, its the way to go.

It's actually a gmail account i'm trying to sync. I think it's a problem with the mail app since i get facebook notifications on time. Very very frustrating. The mail app just refuses to sync properly.
My Account Sync setting seems to like to turn itself off randomly. Is this happening to anyone else??
Some days Ill get my Gmail and Facebook notifications just fine, but sometimes Ill notice I haven't gotten anything all day, go into Settings, and sure enough the Sync option is unchecked once again!
Im on the stock 2.3.4 OS that came with my GS2, all Ive done was root it, nothing else. I don't have any sort of settings on that disable my data or anything that Im aware of, all Ive got is the Power Saving option which turns off my GPS when the battery drops below 30% but this shouldn't affect syncing my Google and Facebook accounts should it??
Last time I updated Gmail in the Market last month, I noticed a lot of comments that this was happening to all sorts of folks so I assumed it was a bug in the latest version. It was just by random chance I happened to go into the Account settings to look at something and noticed it was turning itself off..
Check to see if you have power save turned on. It will turn things off to save battery.
Settings, power save mode.

I have the same issue, but the question is; when the phone gets charged isn't auto sync suppose to turn back on? Mine stays off (t989 for me)
Mine was the same so I just turned it off altogether.

If I uncheck the option, will I still be able to get whatsapp and liveprofile messages? Most likely instant messaging apps.

Yes you will.
I turned it off and using mobile network. "WatsUpp" and Waze-GPS working fine.
But it is not really required question - you can turn it off and try using your toy for one hour, and see, if there are any changes.
Turning off the always-on mobile data shuts your data off after an extended period of time of the screen being off. So you should be able to get your stuff for a little, but after awhile you won't.

Hi!
My father has a Samsung Galaxy S2 with the stock GB, and un-rooted. The phone has been working flawlessly, but lately (since about 2-3 days ago) it begun to using a crazy amount of data.
My father normally uses about 300 mb per month, but now the phone is using about 20-30 mb per hour IN STANDBY.
Also he notices that the battery is lasting about half of the previous time which is consistent with a long running process...
He doesn’t install/update anything lately and the settings are set for low data use. Like no auto sync, he also has all the known data eating apps disabled.
He has installed an app call “my data monitor” and the app says that all the data is being used by OS services but there isn't a detailed information.
Just for clarification, he doesn’t have too much applications installed. Just: Whatsapp, Viber, Facebook and Twiter, but as I say before, he has all the auto sync off, and all this apps where installed Months ago.
My question is: there is a program that can help us to find what is going on? Something like a “on the fly” data analysis?
Any other idea what can be happening?
Thanks!
Edgar
First off, turn off data connection. Settings-wireless and networks-mobile network-uncheck "use packet data".
And then go to Accounts and sync in settings and disable all Google account syncing.

Sounds like a virus to me. Download a virus scanner from the play store. And if you have wifi, I would turn on airplane mode then turn on wifi so he's not using his plans data

I already installed Avast, it coming clean. Maybe I will try another AV.
This happened to me too! Tried figuring out what the issue was, but no avail! Data connection continuously ON and the battery draining like crazy. Had to re-flash stock GB and the problem vanished. :victory:
Having trouble when phone has been in sleep for half hour or more. Notifications coming through wifi are not working. I've being trying to solve it since yesterday but I'm not having any luck.
I've made sure the apps in question are on auto start in permissions, turned off ultra long standby mode in battery power management settings and set the apps to be exempt from cleaning in app protection settings and even turned off 'align wakeup' in power management, and of course wifi is set always on.
Phone is x820 model running fresh china 17S rom, to which i manually installed google play, gmail, bbm apps.. bbm and gmail are the apps in question are the ones not getting notifications, even though phone can receive an sms messages no problem, weirdly even receiving an sms doesnt spring the other notifications to work, also when turning the screen back on notifications still don't come for up to ten minutes even though wifi is working fine.
Any help would be really apreciated, thanks
Hi,
I'm in the same situation as you.
Also my calendar doesn't want to sync. I've flashed phonesky.apk for google apps but it doesn't contains google agenda sync adapter.. so no agenda sync
I've some app which is always run but seems to be cut by the system
Also have a lot of start up app (reboot) but nothing start huhu
17s china
Yeah it's pretty odd. Maybe the trying the Indian rom is the solution.
Generally the settings for notifications should be done in this way:
1. Check that notifications for the desired apps are ON under the menu Settings - Notification Management
2. Allow the apps to start automatically under the menu Settings - Permissions - You have allowed ... apps to auto launch
3. Disable the auto cleaning of the apps under Phone manager - Power Saving Management - App protection
I have Lock-Screen cleanup unchecked, Ultra-Long standby during sleep checked, Align wakeup checked, Clock night-alignment mode checked.
In this way I have no problems with notifications with whatsapp, viber, e-mail (I'm using yahoo mail with the stock email app), fb messenger, Facebook.
If the above are done and stil there are no notifications, then check in the app itself. The last but not least, reflash the firmware.

thanks for the info, you may be right that it is bbm and the specific gmail account playing up, the phone is for my son and on his old phone was getting @1000 notifications gmail a day lol, i cleaned it up and maybe that's made that gmail acount weird for now.
anyway can i ask what rom you are running, thanks

It's seems when my screen is off, the data is also off because i've shown 0.00kb/s when there is a connection to internet (wifi or data)
but when i turn it on, 1 sec later it show 0.00kb/s so when screen is off, no data ??

If your data will work all the time, then the battery will be drained fast. The phone connects from time to time to the Internet and then you'll get the necessary notifications. I cannot tell you how often is this, but you can decrease the time by deselecting Align Wakeup in Power Saving Management.
I am not sure that the way described above is correct, so if someone knows differently, please state.
edit.. thought i found a workaround, but I jumped the gun. Still trying to work this out.
I'm giving up, thinking about sending phone back under the reason of not fit for purpose
Maybe we need to try cuoco rom.
I've installed gapps by myself so maybe they is a bug with it
I've been testing WhatsApp all night, checking every hour if a message will get through and so far it has.... but i bet as soon as i post this it will stop working, that's the luck i seem to have lol
oddly on 19S rom WhatsApp is automatically set up to lock itself in memory, with the lock sign in recents screen, and autostart enabled in permissions
edit, put the phone in airplane mode while i slept, turned airplane mode off and now whatsapp won't get notifications even with the screen on unless i open WhatsAppl
I'm sure it shouldn't be this hard
